I guess I'm incapable of understanding your online articles since I only have a degree in biology and am employed as a biologist.

What's with exercise not burning off the food you eat? Where do people come up with this stuff?!

Works fine for me. I drink many each day, and I've never been overweight in almost 20 years.

One of the things on My 600# life if that "a month in the hospital". I saw my mom's bills and she was never hospitalized more than a few days and STUNNED! Medicare is paying $50K for a month of eating properly. No wonder it's bankrupt. All these people are on disability so they're on Medicare.
I'll never run for any dogcatcher, because I don't have a clue how to fix this. And now the opioid crisis. Not enough treatment beds for anyone. My (THANK GOD FOR INSURANCE) bill for a week of inpatient for my eating disorder in 2009 was over 17k. On one hand, keeping them in a place seems like a good idea. OTOH... it's James. And I'm pretty liberal when it comes to Medicaid spending...

Strangely enough, I have even seen the produce manager in our local grocery store give quizzes to the cashiers on what the different fruit and veg. is in an effort to help them when ringing up the produce. Some can't name even the real obvious ones, but frankly I could understand confusion on things like ugli fruit and celeriac. Personally, I find all that stuff interesting. I even enjoy figuring out what the crops are when we drive by them.
I've had this happen to me with asparagus and different produce. Cashiers didn't know what they were.
I was in eating disorder treatment with a girl who became anorexic after a gastric bypass. The staff said it's becoming more common.
Having been in treatment for ED, and now I'm "in recovery"...sometimes something bad will happen and my first instinct is not to run to behaviors. Which, in and of itself, is HUGE. And I do have coping skills. But sometimes, I just sit there like, fuck- what do I do now??? I can see how some of these patients fall into depression during the process.

The one where James says he's going to double down, prove Dr Now wrong...he's going all the way.
"Do you want to lift some weights?"
"Not right now, no."

I can't think of her name, but the woman with the butt wings, engaged to her daughter's uncle who is the same age as her daughter. That was just one weird relationship. He liked that disability check I guess.Oops, I stole your's downthread! Sorry! I have yet to actually use it in RL. :D

I wonder how long that operation took to remove one of those masses off of her legs. He always says "surgery went very well" :)
He says "so and so did very well" during surgery- like they had to do something!
I really liked this episode. Attention all participants, everywhere: if this lady can walk, YOU HAVE. NO EXCUSES! She did really well for herself. I would love to see a follow up on them.

Is it up to Dr. Now to treat their addiction ? His job is to reduce the size of their stomach . I do believe he provides then with access to a therapist and nutrition info, but how much should he be responsible for? He cannot keep them " clean" in regards to their addiction any more than a G.P. can keep an drug user clean, they just do their best to keep them alive and point them where they need to go. Elizabeth9, this is not in response to your post I hit the quote symbol and cannot get rid of the nox.
It just seems like the therapist comes several months into the thing on most of the recent shows. Why not start off with therapy? That's the only part I don't get. I was. Medically treated firmly eating disorder, but also received psychological treatment concurrently. These people are no different.

Dr Now frequently mentions movement when patients don't lose enough weight in their month. He definetly encourages exercise.
I agree with the above post. Addiction is about more than having the right information. But, for the most part, I believe Dr Now is providing ample instructions. They're not following them for a myriad reasons...

I keep rewatching it too. It just sucks you in. I can't get over the fact that they contemplated moving him in a UHaul type vehicle. Chest pain, your father having a stroke, remortgaging his house, your daughter dropping out of school to wipe your ass, heart failure, and now this- needing a moving truck to be moved. Have we ever seen so many bottoms in one show? And yet, at the end, he's actually worse off...

I guarantee you she bought the most expensive, gilt foil embossed, fancy designer brand name notebooks Walmart/Target has to offer.
What was the point of her even going, anyway? You could take a class at a community college or do a number of free/cheap activities to improve your mind, so why fork over the money unless it's for a degree you need for a career? I think a lot of these girls just see college as desirable activity regardless of whether or not you're going with a plan in mind.
She's run out of men in her hometown?

My friend had this user roommate who never paid for anything. Well, what did she do when he had enough and kicked her out? Set up a Go Fund Me. We alll donated amounts in change. We should do that for James! Here's 25 cents!

Home-schooled? By whom? Put together all of the education that everyone in her life has and you wouldn't come up with the equivalent of a semester of Kindergarten. I doubt very much that her mom has a high-school education. It's just a shame. That gal's very likely to start having some babies pretty soon and repeating her parents' lives. It's all she knows.
Home schooling is a Big thing here. You can be dumb as rocks and "home school" your kid. Basically they sit on a computer and read along all day. Not that all home schoolers are this way, but I know of plenty of people who "homeschool" that make me question the validity of some of the programs (including several well known abuse cases where children were removed from homes where they were "home schooled.")

I don't doubt Bayley was in high school. I don't think this is a family that attends college. I think it is sick, personally, and hope that by "pulled out of school" the kid at least got a homeschool education. That's why I have no sympathy for Lisa- she's totally using her daughter in all of this. Lisa has a choice- Bayley doesn't. Well- she's over 18, so she does now- although if she's a high school dropout, her options are severely limited. Poor girl.

Apparently they threw shit at Tila Tequlia, and at other people who perform there that they don't like.
I hope the cleanup crew gets hazard pay. Seriously.
My bathroom water is shut off at the moment...I'm showering at the gym. I'm so disappointed that it's cold outside and I can't just hose off naked in the front yard.

Someone like James will never hit rock bottom, and that's the problem. Too many enablers. He never has to feel the pain of his own actions and inactions. He will likely die from this addiction- that will be his bottom.

S05.E13: Steven and Justin's Story, Part 1
in My 600-lb Life
· Edited by Elizabeth9
My dad went through his entire life savings on long term care. It broke his heart, because he lived extremely frugally his entite life (1 bedroom house, 15 year old cars he'd fix himself, Goodwill clothing) to save the money for his kids. To see this asshole mock taxpayers...I don't even know if I can watch this episode. Fucker.
Any other Intervention fans think we need to bring in some of those folks for this show???? Candy or Jeff versus James K?
