I think I'm one of the few people who dislikes/doesn't care for Mrs. Chamberlain.

I hope they don't bring any new love interest for Marian (only bc I like Larry and her together lol) and also because this show has enough characters as it is and they can barely focus on their storylines.

Also does anybody else think Bertha's triumph came way too easy and too soon...or is that just me.. like irl it took Alva Vanderbilt YEARS for Mrs. Astor to acknowledge her and by that time the Vanderbilts were on their third generation of wealth. idk I do hope they continue to snub her...especially since Agnes says that they will deal with Bertha "later"

Mrs. Astor was still the Queen Bee even if she did accept new money people. Nobody took her place until after she died.

Larry and Marian are cute 🤷‍♀️ Apparently they danced and talked all night, she seems to trust him enough to tell him about Mr.Raikes. I hope they become a couple.

I feel like the way they portrayed Mrs Astor was a bit of a let down. She was talked up as being the ultimate social chess master, controlling everything behind the scenes. But apart from getting her friends to come to the ball we didn't really get to see much of that. Her big showdown with Mrs Russell was basically Mrs Russell telling her what to do, and her accepting it without actually saying so. I don't think people realize how powerful Mrs. Astor was, she could literally blackball her own husband from gentleman clubs... Bertha doesn't have the power to antagonize Mrs Astor to the extent she has.

I don’t think Raikes stole money but I do believe he is a Rake. They confirmed that is what he is. He’s an adventurer who will hurt Marian but tbh at this point I hope he does bc everybody has been warning Marian for the past 8 episodes. Let her fall on her face. Also Why is Marian more concerned about making Raikes look bad when SHE is the one still part of the affluent Livingston-Brooks family. And even if she wasn't a part of that family, reputations are always more important for the woman than for the man. She can be so annoying sometimes.

The Van Rhjins according to Salli Richardson who is an EP are very wealthy. They are also very notable, The Brooks have been in America at that point for a century and a half and Agnes's mother is a Livingston of Livingston Manor. I would say the Schermerhorns are on the same place as them. Considering the fact that Mrs. Astor accepts Marian at her lunch table, I would say she's part of that society.

This is actually one of the best episodes imo, I really enjoyed it. I think it's supposed to be a filler episode and nothing more.

Filming for the second season will start in April.

Next Week's episode synopsis: As the city buzzes over Edison’s electricity demonstration, Bertha plans a picnic that involves Mr. Raikes but not Marian. Agnes entreats her niece to protect the family’s reputation. George prepares for a legal battle as he bristles over Larry’s career ambitions. Bannister plots his revenge. Bertha’s family seems to have emigrated due to the potato famine, It seems massively disrespectful to her Irish roots to want Gladys to marry into the British aristocracy and snag a title for herself but social climbers will stop at nothing will they.

I can't wait to see Gladys when she is actually "out" and Bertha trying to find her husband in the old money crowd.

Just saw the promo and another kiss between Marian and Tom.....

He still has ambition no? Larry can be ambitious just like Tom but he just isn't focused that much on society life and actually has a plan. I believe his father will come around or they will make some sort of compromise.

Almost everyone has raised questions about Raikes yet Marian ignores them.

Marian is so annoying, she literally didn't even want Raikes writing to her in the first episode. Her defending Raikes in front of Agnes who is literally only trying to protect her and is giving her an allowance is just so annoying. He is using her because she's the one who is literally getting him all this invites to society, she literally introduced him to society. I also think that maybe Carrie Astor is talking about her future husband, in real life she had to literally starve herself so Mrs.Astor would allow her to marry him. Larry actually got a story this episode! and he would actually make a good match for Marian, he didn't propose to her within 5 seconds and they actually have chemistry. He's also a billionaire who is a sweetheart but Marian is too.busy pinning over Raikes.

It's funny how Mrs.Astor's husband was somewhat new money but yet she looked down on everyone else.

Pretty high I believe.

We need to see more of Larry and his storyline. I mean he should be with his father during this whole railroad accident.

I don't even think she wants an actual Astor, or Schermerhorn, or Stuyvesant. She clearly wants something grander then that.

I find myself liking Agnes more than the Russells...particularly Bertha, I'm fine with George.

The actor confirmed that they named him Raikes on purpose.
