Thank you!  Also, it looked more like a murder scene in there than period blood.  Who bleeds that much.  Gross.

Oh, I could tell you stories...

And he did it for money.  What a piece of shit

They only lightly touched on it, but his main issue was that he got a breathtaking advance and never delivered. Year after year the pressure increased and he couldn't give the publishers anything. He was writing articles for Rolling Stone and anything else that would bring in a few bucks. So he just was dug in deeper and deeper and desperate enough to use what he had to save himself. Not that that excuses what he did, but it seems to have been more something that he resorted to than a whim.

Who bought Truman’s ashes? That was so morbid that they were auctioned off like that.

I don't think it's ever been revealed. But the auction only had a portion of them. They were initially split between Joanne and Jack, and then most of her share was buried at the Westwood cemetery, supposedly in the space Peter Lawford had occupied except his bills weren't paid and he got evicted (either by the Kennedys or his wife at the time). Joanne kept some of them and that was what ended up being auctioned (after her death).

He was chosen to be on lots of talk shows because he was so entertaining, and he was one of the most sought-after dinner guests of all time. And he lived in an era when gay men were expected to be closeted, but he managed to become the toast of town while being out and flaming. He must have had a good sense of humor.

I was a child at the time, but he was on EVERY talk show (back when talk shows were in the morning and afternoon). What he contributed was way above my understanding at the time (I just thought of him as that weird guy), but he clearly delivered, even if towards the end it was a train wreck sort of thing. Part of what I think he delivered was a certain kind of bitchy gossip that was novel at the time. People were so much more guarded in public - he came out and said things that made people gasp, and I can see that appealing to the society folks because he dished the dirt on people he knew they already despised.  I think he made them feel modern and racy and liberal and cool, and he satisfied their mean girl streak, never suspecting that he'd do the same to them.

  2. It will be interesting to see how the GLP-1 drugs will affect these shows (and these doctors' practices).  In fact, a lot of these patients will have qualified for them based on diabetes alone. And given that they are now first line therapy for patients who start to regain after sleeve and bypass surgery, there should be fewer failures post surgery.

The big sticking point is insurance, which many/most participants seem to lack - the cost per month for Zepbound is ~1200/month so the population studied on these shows may be stuck with surgery.

I'm thinking Dorit is actually the ONLY one without something besides this show.  Kyle, Garcelle, Crystal, and AM have careers, Sutton has her shop and all her board seats, and even Erika has a pretend "entertainer" gig.  The last thing I saw Dorit do is model some beautiful wedding gowns in her living room (that she did not design) a few years ago.

There's always Homeless but not Toothless.

This is a job, she gets  paid to do her job.  That is crap. I would have started without her.

Even better, started and informed her that she did not show up for the reunion per her contract and was being docked by the missing minute. And that she would be seated (and paid) beginning at the next natural break, and not necessarily when she deigned to show up.

I think what folks are missing in the whole "attacked" episode is that Garcelle was sharing a deep hurt and feeling of betrayal over the way her son's treatment was treated as a joke (and the social media firestorm that followed). And Dorit's reaction was basically "I don't know how you can say that, it really hurts my feelings, in fact, it feels like an attack." And that plays into the whole "white woman's tears" phenomenon where a Black woman standing up for herself in any way is twisted into the sin of having made a white woman uncomfortable. And that discomfort suddenly becomes the high priority issue that everybody wants to relieve, not the situation the Black woman was addressing in the first place.

In the moment, as I recall correctly, Dorit's reaction was to immediately scold Erika - she was rightfully offended and made it known. And she wasn't the one whooping it up at Kyle's dinner party.  So I don't even think Garcelle was particularly irked at Dorit so much as Kyle/Mauricio.  What Garcelle reacted to was the hijacking of her expression of vulnerability into a demand to make Dorit feel better about herself.

  5. Just watched the Cary (Elvis impersonator) episode and the man was melting down in such a visibly painful way there is no ethical reason why this continued. On Hoarders they've called off a cleanup for far less visibly disturbed people.  This man needed psychiatric help (including meds), not a therapist and an organizer, and he needed both immediately.  As in transport him to an inpatient facility right now.

I used to think this show was less about the drama than Hoarders, but yikes.

  6. Fond memories of tween me belting out (and dancing to) "YMCA/In the Navy/Macho Man,"  as well as Donna Summer's "Hot Stuff".

    Going further back, Lady Marmalade!

I could buy that Louise would be wary, despite her politics. She's the only one in the family that seems to have any grasp of needing financial security.

  7. I think a big issue is that they work backwards - finding celebrities willing (or likely) to participate, and then working their family trees to find interesting stories. And statistically speaking, the barriers imposed by slavery and colonialism narrow the possibilities even further.  Spain appears to have kept/maintained better overall records in their colonies, so people with roots in Latin America appear to have better paper trails to follow than those in English/French colonies.

I don't have access to the UK version, but I wonder if they have better luck finding records for their celebs of African descent or are the roadblocks the same?

A week or two ago she posted a photo of her kids with a motorized toy car on instagram (I think), thanking "Grandpa" and tagging DAVID. I figured that signaled a MAJOR shift in the family tectonic plates.

He may be beginning to see that his behavior has been horrific and extremely off-putting and realized he better tone it down or Bye, Bye, Kootie on TV.

But does he even have enough of a brain to realize that?

To be perfectly honest, there have been multiple occasions when Kody has been measured and fairly reasonable when one on one with Christine talking about the dissolution of their marriage. There was a huge disconnect in the early post-breakup episodes between the tenor of his discussions with Christine in person where he seemed resigned and regretful but not hostile and the rage displays in the talking heads. I came to assume that in the intervening period he had been fed the poison of "I can't believe she DID this to you, to us, do you know how that makes you look, do you know how it makes ME look, the world is going to blame it all on ME!"

He's a jerk, absolutely, and I don't generally blame men's behavior on their partners and don't even blame Robyn 100% because of course he has choices in how he behaves. But I think a lot of his crazy behavior is wrapped up in his idealized vision of his marriage with Robyn and the toxic masculinity/victimization stuff he's been absorbing and perhaps she's been coddling.  Early season Kody is quite a different animal altogether.

  11. They should have called this episode "Et tu, Caleb?"

Loved Janelle's snipe about rocking chair/porch/grandchildren, and the parade of littles at the beginning of the wedding shows David and Christine already have that.

Indeed, the "Brown family" remains intact. Of the 13 original children, three wives and Kody, only one wife and Kody are out of the picture. I do feel bad for Sol and Ari and I hope that as they grow older they are incorporated into the greater circle as has been stated they will be.

I think Amy just wanted Michael to beg her to stay, instead he just walked into the attorney's office, and the courthouse.    I suspect the reality of a modern day divorce isn't what Amy thought she would get, judging from her constant crying about Michael filing first, and being stunned about the way the first hearing went.   I'm just glad the local courts don't allow cameras, because that would only encourage bad behavior for the show.

I think she's having a mental health crisis, and it's painful to watch. That being said, she was gone a month, and had Michael sued for divorce the moment she left, she surely would have been notified, wouldn't she? So they both waited and around the one month mark, and he decided it was over (probably especially since filming had begun and she hadn't sought to film with him).

Like Amy, he probably has more competent people in his life guiding him, and I hope his mother is one of them if she is going to be caring for the kids. I hope Amy's family and the show producers are also aware of how airing her breakdowns may affect custody matters.  Not a case I'd want to handle if I were a judge.

I wonder if Annie getting dumped by Meri for her own mom Bonnie to run the B & B is part of why Christine doesn't trust Meri?

Paedon has said that the one thing he gives Robyn credit for is blowing the whistle on Meri's mistreatment of the kids, and that by doing so she "may have saved some lives." So I don't know what the hell was going on, but I suspect that the adult kids broke their silence sometime recently about stuff that had gone on in the past, perhaps in tandem with encouraging Christine to get the hell out.  A lot of truth can be spilled once people get going sharing stories.

Then again, it's Paedon, so who knows.

  14. I forgive Christine's gushing not just because she clearly is ecstatic, but because she's probably being prompted endlessly to talk about what's going on, and that's foremost on her mind. What other content did we have?  More Tony and Mykelti?  Kudos to Aspyn and Ysabel for some nice contributions.

I like that David has a large family and that the two families have had extensive contact and approve. That makes me feel better about the speed at which they moved. Looks like he's been single a while and didn't have a particularly happy marriage, and for Christine it's effectively the same. No wonder they wanted to get on with it.

Why is Heather so easily triggered by Whitney? Why not laugh and saunter nonchalantly away?

I saw the heavy hand of production every time Whitney brought it up - seemed clearly to be expected of her even past the point of it making any kind of sense. Her heart wasn't in it - she's no actress.

Heather freaking out was the interesting part. All I can think is that she saw the heavy hand of production coming for her and freaked. Or else knew what a fight with Whitney over this might lead to being revealed, and wanted to avoid that at all costs. Whatever it is. She seemed genuinely afraid, not just fed up - and she's also no actress.

  16. I think we can all agree that no way in HELL would Sandy approach ACTUAL non-show yacht guests and harangue them to get off their butts.

I would love if some future non-show guest of hers feels the need to state up front on day 1 that they're going to rest, relax, drink, nap, and enjoy the beautiful views and they don't want any pep talks. (Can you imagine the boon that would be to staff? Keep an eye on our beverage consumption, give us occasional snacks, otherwise don't hover, dinner at 8 is fine, we'll probably sit outside and enjoy a nice conversation after dinner, but nobody has to wait on us after 10.)

I do get it - they weren't providing anything worth filming, and that's a serious problem. But it's also her problem that having to dance for the production company will affect how future clients react to having her as their captain.

I've never had pork belly before, I don't know why Jack thought Americans love it.

It's pretty common in the nicer restaurants a typical charter cruise guest would frequent. It's just uncured bacon in blocks rather than strips. Often served with a sweet glaze.

I didn't know the crew mess was Luka's responsibility.  Seems like it should be an interior/group effort.

He really screwed up the scheduling, but he's new at it.  I've never had to do anything like that and would be baffled.

Maybe the interior is responsible for the guest accessed areas (and Captain coddling), and the deck crew is responsible for the "boat."   After picking up after some of these monsters, I can only imagine if the interior had to clean up after their coworkers as well.

I always enjoy learning after the season how well the chefs cooked for the crew. It seems to range from barely acceptable/forage for yourself to pretty upscale food. Jack seems like he could do some good family style meals without stressing too much.

Bobby’s temper tantrum over the caption voting didn’t even make any sense. The captions were anonymous, so it wasn’t like they purposefully didn’t vote for him. But he really lost it!

  19. Marcellas on Big Brother did that waaay back when - had a veto to secure his own safety but opted not to use it because he was SO certain he was safe. You young'uns can guess how that worked out for him.

It seems like the obvious response to "google me" is "if people have to google you to know who you are, why bother?"

I don't know who Bobby is or what he does, but his "You LAUGHED AT THE WRONG JOKES!" is a great reality show line - Mr. Arch Villain suddenly transformed into a four year old angry that grownups are ruining something he worked hard on.

  20. I felt bad for Robyn's daughters. Their couch talks seem like hostage videos, and you just know Robyn and Kody are standing behind the camera.  I hope that in the time between when these scenes were shot and today the siblings who missed them will reach out at school or elsewhere and embrace them and they can have relationships behind Robyn and Kody's back.

I get annoyed just a bit at Jennelle whining about being left with "nothing".  Girl is all over Insta showing all her trips/cruises etc.  She is what, top 5 earners with Plexxus????  Gurrl, stop with that cry-cry.

Of all the wives, she's the one who's literally out hundreds of thousands of dollars (well, not sure how much her retirement was, but she also turned over a house to the family back in Utah pre-show, too, did she not?). Robyn came in with debt that they paid off and is living in a mansion, while Janelle's left with nothing except her name on a lot that will probably be foreclosed on.  She needs to stay bitter and get her money!

  21. I hope she doesn't get surgery and that she meets somebody who vibes with her weirdness and doesn't want yet another Jawline 3/Eyelift 2/Lip filler 5 from the California plastic surgery options chart. This may entail moving to the East Coast.

I once had dinner with a woman who was moving out of Arizona because her sons were getting to middle school age and all the girls in town were getting nose and boob jobs at 16 and their moms were all completely overhauled and she thought they already were developing warped views of what female humans actually look like. Just from watching reality tv I feel like I'm adjusting to the manufactured "look" - occasionally I see a picture of someone I once thought was grotesque and find myself thinking they're not that bad...

. Garcelle herself told her son, well you should have told me, not that it would have stopped me from going but you should have told me. She is clearly NOT going to put her family over the show (that she likes to call “work” to make it sound better).

She also was simultaneously doing a talk show the last few years (I think it's over now). She strikes me as somebody who constantly is working to stay working - definitely not sit back and rake in the HW cash (though she obviously will do that too!)

We don't know their living situation, but it's also possible that they're just teenage guys, they're at school/extracurricular stuff 10 hours a day, sleeping 9 hours a day, playing video games 5 hours a day, and are annoyed when mom isn't waiting patiently in the next room to make them snacks when they deign to seek her company. Doesn't make anybody bad, just tunnelvisioned.

I definitely agree that she could handle her kids' on air time better - film more lighthearted stuff than the deep discussions. But maybe she does and they don't air it. I also think it's pretty typical of older teen boys to want to try out other living situations and if Dad appears to be offering a more lax one (or even just a change in venue), they'll go for it.

Lots of overlap with personal assistant, but more likely to actually have formal training in function planning, etc)
