  1. They decided to put off the season premiere of B Positive a week to air an hour long series premiere of Ghosts, but I would’ve been OK with them putting off this premiere instead (and air the hour long Ghosts premiere at 8:30) to give them more time to work on it.

  2. https://childrensinn.org/stories/farrahs-new-immune-system/

I saw this article recently and I am so glad Farrah has been able to recover from this. I had seen her Instagram posts and didn’t think there was any way she was 15, since Hazel is 11 I believe, and now she’s 16, but this autoimmune disease has stunted her growth. I would not have known about this if I had not seen it. They could’ve got someone younger to play her but Farrah has done a great job.

Looks like they pulled the "US of Al" repeat off CBS last night, with the awful situation in Afghanistan. Of course, the sitcom's problems are nothing compared to what's really going on, but where do they go from here?

I read where it was the producers’ idea, not CBS’, the episode they pulled was the one where they found the dog that Al was afraid of. They did not air any more repeats, they were pulled for Bob Hearts Abishola.

  3. Since no one started it I guess I will. This forum must be dead. Last night was the season premiere and it was the tribute episode to George Segal (Pops). They didn’t get a chance to do this last season because he died literally while they were shooting the Season 8 finale. He was only going to be out for surgery but died from complications. But last night they acknowledged his death, Bill and Ted style. I thought it was very well done. Everyone was taking it hard and even if the last wishes letter was fake, Murray had nothing but the best of intentions. It would be hard for anyone to deal with.

As for the season Geoff and Erica will be getting married and wedding planning will be starting very soon and Adam will be getting another senior year. It’s going to be a big one but also a sad one. It isn’t going to be the same without Pops.

  4. Spoiler

Riley wants Vanessa back! Can’t wait to see how this plays out next season!

They really didn’t give Lizzie many storylines at all this season, other than losing her late fiancé’s dog tags and now she gets hit on and hammered and has to get Al to pick up her and Riley from the VFW bar…and

    Spoiler

    pukes in Al’s car

but maybe a blessing in disguise as it seems to get Riley’s act together. I hope to see more character development from Lizzie next season. She’s still grieving the loss of her fiancé. I agree I felt bad for Hazel this episode but she seemed to take it in stride.

Just to note, it appears some episodes were flipped, resulting in #9 and #10 being shown before #8. I don’t quite know how we should best account for that

Oh I see what you mean now. I was super confused because the new board didn’t start until “Matchmaker/Roybar.”  10 was switched with 8. http://www.thefutoncritic.com/showatch/united-states-of-al/listings/

  6. Poor Hazel. Unfortunately Vanessa was proved right about the dog but I felt bad for her. Hopefully another dog arrives in Season 2. I was hoping for that at the end of the episode but at least we got to see a baby Riley flashback.

We didn’t get enough Art and Lois and the farting couch. HILARIOUS! Their date probably would’ve been a separate episode if they had been able to get 18 episodes like YS, B+ and Mom.

I enjoyed the episode, it was funny, sweet and a little sad. I too can’t help but think Vanessa may end up dropping her boyfriend in the not too distant future. He’s sweet but dim

Yeah Freddy might not be long for this show. Or strangely enough maybe he stays on the show and him and Riley become friends after they break up.

I agree with this.  It's like an almost perfect storm took the show out.  One of those things and it might have survived, but all of them together were too much.  I find it interesting that no one mentioned the ratings.  Since its cancelation I have read numerous comments in other places from people complaining that other shows were renewed with lower ratings than this one.  But I think we all know it really wasn't the ratings that got it canceled.  Too bad....

I was probably one of those people, I just didn’t come on here to mention it. AH rated higher than Home Economics. It was the third highest ABC sitcom and rated higher than the network average. But that wasn’t enough, so that tells you it wasn’t the ratings. Heck, even the Unicorn rated higher than Home Economics. To make matters worse they put Home Economics in Call Your Mother’s old time slot where it will probably fail. If they are going to bring that show back they have to put it in a better time slot than that.

So assuming next season will be the last

Don’t get your hopes up. Blackish is ending next year and so I doubt they are going to end both of them the same year. I see The Goldbergs going through Season 10 and Adam getting a year of college. Remember the real Adam, who vowed to end the series with his HS graduation, isn’t in charge anymore. They will likely announce the final season ahead of time.

  9. I didn’t like that Hazel turned it around on Lizzie and made the remark that she hadn’t dated anyone since Michael died. I guess she meant well and she’s just a kid though. Overall a good episode and I thought there was good chemistry between Art and Lois. She comes back in two weeks I believe.

    Finally! Separate episode threads!

The actress playing Lizzie is also a Lorre veteran - she was on DISJOINTED,

Lizzie really needed to lighten up while shopping for the party tonight. She was a bit rude to Al at the store. I didn’t care for her too much in tonight’s episode. But I also didn’t like Hazel talking down to her talking in her helium voice.

But still a good episode. I liked Art setting Riley straight about Freddy. And Al being 28 or 29! I hope he figures out his real birthday and age soon.

Glad the show has graduated to its own board now!

I don’t think it’s been explained what happened to Riley and Lizzie’s mom, has it? Was Art married to her?

    I wondered about that, too.

That will finally be addressed June 3

    Spoiler

“Matchmaker/Roybar” — Al and Riley get the sense that Art might be lonely and missing his late wife so they play matchmaker for him, on “United States of Al,” Thursday, June 3 (8:31-9:01 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

I think someone said in last week's thread that Samantha was missing because the actress was filming another show (pilot?) or something.

Yeah I went back and saw that. It was a pilot.

  13. That was absolutely perfect….except for the absence of Samantha in the final two episodes for some random new patient. What was thd point of that? THANK YOU ADRIANA for doing the right thing and taking the earlier flight to Switzerland. I was so afraid someone else was going to take that surgery  date and they would have to scramble to find another one. So glad Drew asked Gina to stay….just because the surgery is over doesn’t mean she has to move out. And what if the surgery isn’t successful? Welcome back Sara Rue and Izzy Q!

If the show isn’t renewed, what a great series finale but I would miss it. If it is, very interesting to see where it goes in Season 2. We’ll see what happens.

  14. The whole episode was disappointing except for Becky getting out of rehab and even she was annoying! Just go to Hawaii Darlene! It’s what you want! I can’t believe she caved. But she should’ve told Ben first. And the Jeopardy thing was terrible. Can’t believe I’m saying this but Bev was the funniest part of the show even though I can’t agree with her. I did like Louise putting Barb in her place. If Darlene says yes to Ben I will SCREAM.

The topic didn’t exist when the show premiered so I figured there wasn’t enough interest and started it in the Other Comedies section.  If it gets enough responses, we can ask that it be moved to the Main Comedy section

Fair enough. Also should depend on if the show is renewed. Pointless to move it if it turns around and gets cancelled.

I assume they're either divorced (which could lead to future stories for Art) or dead, which could explain why it seems as though Art raised the kids.

I would guess divorced. But could be wrong.
