  1. The Hungryland Homicide

I'm surprised the 20/20 forum doesn't get as much activity as the Dateline forum. Anyway, this episode had a case that I had never heard of before. I have a few comments:

They wasted all that time on red herrings like the ventriloquist and pastor, going so far as to include them in the episode description when they had nothing to do with anything. And they made the pastor look bad when he had done nothing wrong other than refusing to take a polygraph. My husband is a lawyer and he says that refusing to take a polygraph should not be used as proof of anything, as he would refuse to take one unless a warrant was issued but since they're not admissible in court, what would be the point.

The DA or state's attorney seemed like a colossal A-HOLE. Wanting to blame everyone but himself for the crappy deal he ended up agreeing to with the defendant. If the defendant is offering up a plea so quickly that includes substantial prison time, wouldn't that be a red flag that he he's hiding something? Why would you agree to a deal only 2 days later before you had a chance to do some more investigating? And for him to blame the military for not taking jurisdiction just because he ended up being made a fool of by the defendant and defense attorney.  Maybe he should have consulted with the military before agreeing to the deal he made with the defendant.

Also, I'm surprised that Steven was able to clean up and cover all his tracks as well as he did, other than the surveillance videos. Are we to believe that there was really no blood evidence at all? If he cut her up in pieces, it had to have left some blood evidence in the car or in one of the homes. Did they not luminol either of the homes?

Another thing that I found amazing was that Steven never asked for an attorney during all of his interrogations with the police. And even when the DA got involved, you'd think he would have wanted to make sure that a legal aid attorney was involved just to make sure that Steven didn't later try to claim that he was denied an attorney.

Anyway, Steven just seemed like a total sociopath.

  2. Lots of weird things about Dr Sills and Susann. First of all, yes I agree it was creepy that she was originally a patient of his with her first husband. Makes me think that her first husband wasn't as well off as Dr Sills and she decided to trade up her lifestyle because he certainly wasn't physically attractive at all, and her family admitted he was an odd duck and socially awkward, as well as that woman he tried to have an affair with. Seems like he benefitted from a reputation as a well-known and successful doctor with money, despite any shortcomings in the physical attributes department.

If Susann was walking around the house carrying a large steel pot and she dropped it, there is no way that would not have made a large enough sound that would have woken up everyone in the house.

  3. All of the dishes were amazing. For scoring, I wish they'd gone with how many flags each team actually got as opposed to a winner take all in each inning. However, I guess it's akin to leaving hitters on base without scoring. It doesn't matter how many hits you get and how many players get on base, you still have to send them home.

Soo's corn dog did sound interesting. There is a Korean corn dog restaurant near my house that I keep meaning to try. Hot dogs are apparently popular in Korea due to the large number of American military stationed there over the years.

  4. I had no issue with Remy hooking up with that lawyer in Missouri - you could see that coming from a mile away. What I like about Remy is that he likes age appropriate and strong women. That judge he dated who broke up with him was similar in that way. Not all men in their late 50s/early 60s want to date women 20-30 years younger than them. It's like how people freak out that Keanu Reeves is dating a woman who keeps her gray hair. She's age appropriate but she's still younger than he is!

I don't know much about air marshals but if he was off duty would he still be allowed to openly carry his weapon? I didn't understand why Hana was flying commercial - didn't they use the FBI jet to get to Missouri?

  5. Never watched any of the NCIS shows but started this one because of it's location and ended up loving the cast. I really hope they reconsider. As blackwing says, if SWAT can be cancelled and uncancelled twice then why not this one.

  6. Another show that I watch on network TV getting cancelled, even despite decent ratings. The broadcast networks all complain about losing viewers to streaming but then they go and cancel the shows that people are actually watching. This show is way better than NCIS Sydney with better characters and better actors. Why wouldn't they at least put this show on Paramount Plus? At this rate, I'm going to have very few shows to watch on network TV. And I'll be even more reluctant to try a new show as they all seem to get cancelled after 2-3 seasons, if they're lucky.

  7. Well that's disappointing. Seems like a lot of the shows that I watch on regular broadcast TV are getting cancelled despite decent ratings. I know the networks complain that viewership overall is down, but when they keep cancelling shows that do decently in the ratings, it makes it hard to invest in new shows. It's like they are pushing us to streaming platforms or to just not watch at all.

  8. Lots of problems with this episode. First of all, I don't understand why if the verdict hadn't been officially recorded, why they did not just replace the rogue juror with one of the alternates. The rogue juror was not deliberating in good faith or in following the law so she should have been replaced with an alternate. Second of all, I don't even know what there was to defend. How can it be legal to take a minor away from her parents without their consent, even if you and her claim it was consensual? She is not old enough to consent to something like that. This wasn't a case of custodial interference or even 2 teenagers running away together. This was a disgusting older man who took a child away from her parents. Even if there were aspects of their time together that she may have enjoyed, there is no legal justification for what he did. There was no reason for the jury to reach any other verdict other than guilty unless they were going for jury nullification.

And I just don't understand what was the point of the mother exchanging gross pictures with the perp. What was she hoping to accomplish?

I thought that Nina was a bit overly dismissive of Scola's concerns - which to me, weren't all that unreasonable.  Yes, they are both in dangerous jobs, and yes, either of them could get killed on the job.  But the odds of both of them dying on the same day on the job are a lot less than say them both dying in the same plane crash.  Unless of course they're working together undercover.  It's all about reducing the risks that their kid will be orphaned, not about getting rid of them altogether.

So 2 people with children together should never travel together on a plane?

  10. I thought the episode was pretty good. I like seeing Nina and Scola together but the argument/debate over mitigating risk seemed stupid considering they both have super dangerous jobs and are always getting shot at. If Scola was that worried about risk and ensuring that little Dougie didn't end up an orphan, then one of them should be taking a desk job.

I may have missed it, but I thought there were 3 people involved in the torture and kidnapping of the retired FBI guy. They got the 2 brothers, but did they ever say who the third person was? I don't think it was that older white guy, or was it?

Also, it seemed strange to me that Nina kept saying they had to book flights to Napa. For most people, if you are going to Napa, you would fly into the Bay Area or Sacramento, maybe Santa Rosa, but not many commercial flights into Napa itself unless you're rich and flying a private plane to their small airport. I live here so something like that stands out to me. But speaking of being rich, didn't Scola at one time say that he had made a lot of money in a previous job? I like seeing them as a family in a more realistic small apartment, but I thought he would have more money for something more spacious. Maybe even in a house in the suburbs.

  11. It never occurred to me that the body in the truck would be Sam. Any idea why it would be? I missed how the cases might be connected.

I just thought it was hilarious that Stabler would be able to go undercover again and nobody would recognize him. Although I suppose after a couple of years, people forget. It also looked like the woman who first took Stabler in and got him a beer while he waited for Boone, she is looking like she's also an undercover, at least from the previews. Did anybody else get that?

A couple of funny moments in this episode - Jett and Reyes as a couple who have a foodie blog and Mrs. Stabler upset that Elliot and Randall "ruined" little Joey when they started hanging out with him. It was sad to see Joe Jr's addict behavior, but I'm glad all he did was grab the baseball and he didn't actually physically harm his mother.

  12. Re: Kaitlin Armstrong/Mo Wilson episode on Friday.

The new information that I thought was more interesting is the fact that Kaitlin tried to escape custody but was caught after running for about 10 minutes. The footage was pretty funny and I wish they had shown more of it. I also thought it was interesting that the jury took less than 2 hours to convict. Bet that humbled the arrogant defense attorney who was interviewed on the first version claiming that all of the evidence was wrong and that his client would be exonerated.

My husband and I were very interested in this case due to the Costa Rica angle. We first heard about this case as we were planning a trip to Costa Rica so we did get kind of a kick about her trying to escape there and then getting caught due to the yoga mat she was spotted carrying around in the airport. Looking back, I'm sure she wishes she had just bought another yoga mat once she was in Costa Rica instead of bringing her old one. LOL

We also thought it was very strange that Kaitlin seemed to go from a normal person (albeit with some red flag jealousy issues) to a murderer pretty quickly. Usually there's a sign of a person potentially escalating their jealousy towards murder. I'm surprised that neither Dateline or 20/20 ever dug up a former boyfriend or a former acquaintance who could say that she definitely had an insane jealous streak.

Anyway, it does seem like such a loss that Mo Wilson was murdered as she did seem like a great person. Kaitlin definitely should have aimed her ire towards Colin the boyfriend instead.

Where have we seen Kaleena Bliss before?  She's very familiar.

She's been on the Food Network. She won the first season of the Beach Brawl show that is hosted by Antonia Lofaso and it always cracks me up that they have to film it in the winter in California but act like it's summer. I think she was also on Chopped but I don't know if she won or  not.

When they were raising hands about who was a James Beard winner/nominee and who worked in Michelin restaurants and then Kristen asked who didn't raise their hands, I was hoping Kaleena would say that she was a Food Network winner. With so many former Top Chef contestants now on Food Network, I'm not sure why they wouldn't mention it on this show.

The winning pasta dish looked delicious and the pozole sounded amazing. I wonder if Kenny would have been on the bottom if he had managed to plate both white and dark meat. It sounded like he had a good dish but because he didn't have dark meat on all of the plates he was automatically deemed the loser when everyone else managed to get it on theirs.

  14. I've seen that case on Friday on another show but can't remember which one. Pretty brazen of the mother-in-law to just shoot her in the parking lot in full view of so many people, including the baby. In a place like Georgia where so many people have guns, nobody tried to stop her as she walked away?

  15. Something happened with my DVR and so I missed the previous episode and I had no idea who Gemma was and what she and OA were talking about. Did that happen to anyone else?

As for this episode, I kept thinking that we were going to find out Hassan was a double agent, not that he was just incompetent.

  16. I like Whistler and how she looks like a tall and beautiful put-together model but inside she's a little awkward and a geek. But what's the deal with Lucy being absent from this episode and nothing being said? Is there something going on with the actress who plays her?

Are we going to get a Jesse midlife crisis running storyline? I really hope not. I kind of like how he's a good-looking, not too old guy, who is just a good father and husband and family man. I don't want them veering into a storyline where he questions whether he started a family too young or contemplates cheating on his unseen offscreen wife.

  17. Did we ever get a reason why Allie has a British accent? She reminds me of Neela on ER. There is no reason for her character to be British other than if the actress can't do a good American accent.

I don't like Allie's plan of "permanent partners" necessarily but if Max already wants to override it or doesn't approve, why would she promote Allie if she didn't trust her judgment? I'm still not sure why Allie thinks this is a good idea. Wouldn't it be better for them to learn from each other by switching up the partners every so often? Isn't that what Grissom used to do? And sometimes on a busy night, they would get to work solo.

Also, I'm not sure why Allie felt it was her place to judge Serena's job and force her to tell Josh, other than a ploy to force Josh and Allie together and create conflict. I'm with Max in that I don't think there was anything wrong with what Serena was doing, as there has always been a detective working with the CSIs. The only thing I question is if it was smart of Serena and Josh to be romantically involved when they work so closely together.

  18. Remy was an arrogant psychopath. Of course he didn't ask for a lawyer when talking to police because he was confident he could talk his way out of it. And of course he said prison was awesome, no way he was going to admit he f-ed up. As soon as he said he and his wife had threesomes with his "girlfriend", I knew that of course he was guilty. Who says that??? And even if it were true, what possible difference would it make? It was just his way of getting revenge on his wife and girlfriend for abandoning him by making them look bad.

Remy's defense attorney from the first trial was a real piece of work and grifter. This however was definitely a case of a guilty person getting an unfair trial. Not surprised that Remy testified on his own behalf. They can say he wasn't prepped and that the defense attorney should have had other witnesses, but there is no way Remy wasn't going to testify. Remy is convinced he is so charming and can talk his way out of everything.

And yeah, I was distracted by Andrea's eyebrows too. Not sure what was going on there.

  19. Loved everyone's comments here. It was a fun ride while it lasted. As long as you didn't take it too seriously, it was entertaining for what it was and I agree, I have a soft spot for it as it came on during the pandemic when we were all still sitting around doing nothing but watching a lot of tv. It's too bad they weren't given enough episodes to tie up all their loose ends. I'm not going to think about the inconsistencies and plot holes anymore now that the show has ended but it has ignited an interest in me and my husband to visit the La Brea tar pits museum the next time we are in Los Angeles. 😆

  20. This show feels like they just make $hit up as they go along LOL. Has anyone tried binge watching this show from beginning to end? There was always so much time in between seasons that I never actually remembered what had previously happened so I was able to hand wave a lot of the ridiculousness. But I wonder if you watch all the episodes back to back in a shorter timeframe if the show would actually make some sense. I doubt it, but it would be interesting to see.

Anyway, kind of curious to see how they wrap it up. Will we finally see Eve, Riley and Josh? Will they get back to 2021? LOL

  21. Catching up on the last two weeks.

    "Ghosts Can't Talk"

The son Nick is a disgusting psycho creep. He was clearly the golden child for his whole life, coddled by his parents, and then found a psycho girlfriend/wife. I can't believe he actually thought he was smart enough to make money as a day trader. He seemed like he was not too bright. I'm glad Corey finally recognized her son for what he was and is not talking to him any longer.

My sister-in-law and her husband have an only son who has dropped out of college now for several years and lives at home in his bedroom and barely ever comes out of his room when we do visit at Christmas. I can't help but think he expects to inherit everything from his parents as an only child, and possibly as the only grandchild on his maternal side and so he has absolutely no motivation to do anything. He doesn't have a job, doesn't go to school, we have no idea what he does all day. I don't think he has murderous tendencies towards his parents but Dateline really makes you think the worst of people and anyway he would be the most obvious suspect.

As to the episode about the Markels. So glad that Donna got arrested and in the most public and humiliating way. Charlie (and his lawyer) are morons if they thought anyone would believe their story that they were being extorted. If it was true, all he had to do was call the police and tell them "Hey I know who killed Dan!" and the whole thing would have been over. Glad that the jury saw right through it. And as for Wendi, there is no way she didn't know, and even if she didn't know before it actually happened, she had to know that her dear brother was involved once it was proven that the 3 who did do it had ties to her brother. That family is disgusting all around. Curious about the one brother who did manage to get away though.

  22. Yes, I had forgotten about Susan's first exit! I agree, I think tv shows do this so there can be some big dramatic moment at the workplace or immediately after, like Susan and Mark at the train station or Neela/Brenner at the airport, although theirs was so dull I don't think it was quite the dramatic moment the show thought it should be.

Also forgot to mention Carol hopping on a flight to Seattle immediately after quitting on a moment’s notice. The thing with the plane is the most 2000 thing ever. And Abby worked one attending shift before quitting basically on the spot and then drove right to Boston.

To be fair, I think Carol impulsively quit the day she did and then hopped on a plane. My issue is people knowing that they are leaving or moving and then working one last shift on their way to the airport. If I were moving, I'd put in my notice at work, then plan to move a few days after my last day. I wouldn't work my last shift and then just go straight to the airport like they made it seem Neela did. They do this on other shows too and it's stupid. Nobody does this in real life unless they have no other choice, and I don't believe for a second that Neela had to work right up to the minute of her departure. She could have worked her last shift, then gone home and spent the next week packing up her apartment and making arrangements for the move. Instead, she goes from the hospital directly to the airport so that Simon can run after her and declare how much he loves her. 🙄

  24. I'm getting to the end of my Season 15 watch and just watched the episodes where Carter comes back and gets his kidney transplant and Doug and Carol were the organ facilitators. I find it funny that Doug asked about a few of the doctors who were there when he was, and he never asked about Carter who was getting the kidney. I enjoyed seeing Benton visit Carter and finding out that his life has moved on. That was the thing I always appreciated about ER, they never acted like once characters left the show that their lives got worse or that they remained stagnant. ER always showed that life continued to move on for the characters, even after they left County.

As for Neela's exit, how boring and dull. Her relationship with Brenner was never compelling, and we are expected to believe she just suddenly decided to turn down Duke University to go to Baton Rouge to be with Ray? That's another relationship i never understood - when were they supposed to have fallen in love? What was so special about Neela anyway? She said Brenner never talked to her about anything meaningful, but did she tell him anything? She hasn't mentioned Gallant in years. And then I don't believe for one second that Frank would throw her an embarrassing good bye party when he never even liked her.

Another thing I hate, only on tv do people work a shift right before they literally get on a plane to move! Who does that????
