<sniffles>  This interaction is what I want.  Why can't they do that more than once or twice in a whole season?  No matter how stupid this show gets, I always want to ease Rick's pain.  lol

Makes me remember earlier seasons. This show, the life they’re living, has been an emotional journey for these people we’ve known since the quarry. Too bad we hardly get to “check in” with them like this. Too bad Carl’s dead. What a waste all around.

But wasn't that cell in Alexandria and didn't Alexandria kinda go kaboom? Is the cell going to be the only thing that didn't burn down? And who is going to keep an eye on him in there what with no place to sleep left? Or is a wizard going to come by, wave a wand and voilà, Alexandria is as good as new?

Well, we know they can't BUILD Alexandria back. Showing the viewers world-building. The biggest no-no in TWD land.

Or maybe just kill off the core cast and continue with the Negan & Tara Show.

Okay, that would be the worst possible outcome, though The Tara Show sans Negan for me would be even worse. I have NEVER liked her, and I dare say I hate her character.

I finally caught up on this season. Haven't watched since the one before the MSF last year. I felt...detached. That makes me sad. I LOVED this show. I struggled with the comics when the world got "bigger," but I think the show has done a piss poor job at, well, much of anything.

I have been enjoying the comics still anyway. :-\

Wouldn't Negan saving Carl be a more logical plot point to change Rick from Die Negan Die to OK I'll put you in prison and let you monologue for the rest of your life?

They actually already had the setup for it since Negan has shown and interest/fondness for Carl. Plus wouldn't having Negan/Rick playing "crazy daddy" and dad to Carl be a lot more interesting and give Negan a reason to keep monologuing?

I'm glad I quit watching regularly after the Glenn fakeout because this just screams of writers being creatively bankrupt and just going to the kill some character for shock value

The fact that Carl and Negan have that relationship makes me wonder if writing Carl off the show was kind of a last minute thing in spite of what may come out. Like, they were setting up a relationship with those two that now will never see a finish.

  5. I've about had it with people randomly deciding NOT to kill. It never works. Remember when they didn't go back and kill the Termites? How did that work out for Bob? Carl has never been one to let people go who were deserving of death. He's been through too much. That's not his character. Or, apparently it is based on the writing. (and Morgan, and Jesus, and whoever needs to be PacifistOfTheWeek)

I guess you were joking, but I knew that Carl was in the comics based on discussions I've read in this forum.  However, since I've never read the comics I was just wondering if Jerry was in them, that's all.

Yes I was joking based on last night's stupid (imo) episode. I haven't even watched yet, just read the forums here. I don't recall Jerry in any form in Ezekiel's story in the comics.

  7. For all of the times the show has strayed from the comic, I just can't believe they will be (?) killing Carl or Michonne. I really feel like Kirkman's comics focus on him (especially) too much that the show couldn't come back from that with other characters taking his spot. Not as Rick's son.

I always hate to love a tv show and then have it be screwed up in later seasons. And yet, I knew it would happen. I guess I'll live forever in old episodes from seasons 1-3. My happy place. This show now SUCKS, and that pains me to say, but the whole Rick/Jadis thing is bad enough to send me away.

  8. For those that mentioned that Negan seemed to pause before smiling at Rick when Rick threatened to kill him this time  during the mini lineup, go back and watch the beginning of 7x01. Rick of course uses the same words and Negan's response is very different. It is an interesting juxtaposition, and the show does excel at little details like that. I really did enjoy the ending of 7x16 with all of the callbacks from Glenn's time on the show and season one. I also enjoyed the soundtrack during the fire fight. I have been unhappy with quite a bit, but there are a lot of little details that I can be happy about. I have just had to look super closely…

eta:  it is still crap when the show does things like cliffhangers for seven months of who got the bat or other blatant audience manipulation, but I was looking for a bit of positivity to counter the blah I have been feeling for a while. :p

  9. I tried to do a multiquote on my phone but I lost it, but I wanted to respond to those that think the showrunners are doing a disservice when they say they are trying to stick closer to the comics. Often times, things in the comics don't translate well to the tv (at least in the way the show does it), but the SHOW, not the comics, gave us Grady, the GPKs, and Tara (for me, three very big fails).

I rewatch old seasons/episodes a lot, especially from seasons 1-3. The feeling from those seasons was drastically different from what I get now, but the end of this episode gave me a bit of that ol' Walking Dead feeling I used to get. No matter how improbable it was that all the groups showed up at just the right time, the fact that they were all fighting together, as a family, is one of the things I love about the show. The journey they've been on, however ridiculous and full of mistakes and stupid villains, the people I care about still are there for each other. I even overlooked Maggie's accent in her final voiceover for the Glenn callbacks. I really enjoyed that. Anytime a show remembers its history, I'm appreciative. Shockingly, I also enjoyed Negan's one-liners this episode.

Now, someone please get Tara off my screen, forever and ever, amen.

Yes and where they are now, I dont see the show going there.

Which part don't you see? I've only been skimming the summaries for awhile. I definitely think the whisperers have TV potential.

I kind of chuckle when people keep talking about how Negan is sure to be dead soon in the show.

  11. I don't have a ton of comments to make, but I do feel strongly enough in my Tara hate to chime in. I don't understand how she is out there with the main characters on "missions." When Glenn found her, she was worthless (that wasn't that long ago!). And now, she's some badass? I can't stand her, and her stupid fist-bumps, even when she isn't doing them. GAH. Her expressions even make me angry.

Good to see some of the gang together and some hijinks. I didn't quite understand Rosita's disgust towards Sasha, because I thought they'd bonded with a head nod last half season or something.

  12. Seasons ago, when I was completely in love with every episode of this show, I hoped TPTB wouldn't ruin it. Well, this season, for me, SUCKS. Thanks, Gimple.

I barely watched this episode and certainly have no plan to watch it again. I cannot fathom the point of another group that I do not, will not, in a box, with a fox, on a boat or with a goat, care about. What about the people we've known for 7 freaking years? I don't even like Tara.

  13.  I am only about 10 minutes into this last episode, but seeing that they have strayed again from the comics and I already don't care anything about what happens here, maybe Gimple should just stick to the source material.  I don't understand why he takes pages of dialogue from the comics and then some episodes are entirely made up.
