  1. It has been one meeeeeellion years since I've been to TWD forums! Good to see some of the same names.

I anticipated this series quite a bit. It wasn't perfect by any stretch, and the mothership went way off course for my taste after Rick and Michonne left (I did eventually watch it all, as well as all the spinoffs-with varying degrees of paying attention) but I'm glad they all ended up together. I wish we'd seen more of the world they went back to after.

  2. There was an awful lot of masking and unmasking at random times. If everyone is inside a building moving around, they should have them on ALL THE TIME. I can suspend disbelief, but I'm over the lack of correct mask usage and social distancing. Do it or ignore it.

  3.  I am not really sure what the last scene was about. It was a lot of words and that was about it. Also, that mom that had just given birth was wearing blue jeans? That was maybe the craziest part!

  4. I have enjoyed a lot of things about this adaptation, but for those on the fence about reading the books, I highly recommend them. I have read the trilogy in whole twice and the first couple of books 3 times. Several people upthread said they did not like the second and third books, but I really enjoyed the entire series. I am enjoying the show for the most part, but this series of books is one of my favorites.

  5. This is two in a row I didn't hate. I'm shocked, I tell ya. I didn't care for Dog being trapped or the horses being left alone (really?), but I was glad to check in on so many people that I care about. Well, not Tara, I don't care about her. I am enjoying the new group for the most part, as well.

Maybe with Rick gone, I don't mind seeing other people since I know I'm not "missing" him, if that makes sense.

It hasn't. Not from eyes anyway.

I liked the newcomers. Different enough to stand out with their own history.

Didn't have a problem with Judith. It's always interesting to me seeing someone like her that knows nothing but this. This has been her whole life. There is no before the ZA.

I was glad to see Michonne hardened but not lost. I can see all of the loss in her life making her less inclined to let people in but she hasn't lost her heart.

Norman is first on the call sheet and didn't need to say a word all week!

I don't have a problem with the various moms and dads being thrown around. People have others come into their lives that raise them as their own children every single day. There are teenagers that ask step parents to adopt them all the time. Nothing weird there.

I'm glad to see these characters in a new stage of their lives. So far it's working well.

She agreed with his decision to keep Negan alive. Why would this be a problem?

Is it possible that all of the loss she has received is weighing down her? Just maybe the things and people that you are assuming she has forgotten has caused a change in the way she operates. Maybe not all for the positive since she's a flawed human being?

We have no idea why Rick can't or hasn't come back. So, I can't shit on a guy who is in a situation I do not know.

Lori sucked. I wouldn't ask her anything.

I haven't read past this post yet, but I wanted to say I agree with you wholeheartedly. (especially about Lori - ha!). I actually felt emotion in this episode. I felt Rick's loss (and I'm glad we didn't have an episode just after the last one, time-wise). I will miss him - he was my favorite from the start - and his absence for me will be rough, but I still *felt* that he was there. I'm wishy-washy on his still being alive, because as far as we know, they won't ever know.

well Lauren Cohen is british, so mayyyyybe we can cut her some slack on her 'southern' accent. (growing up in texas, oooooh yeah I do hear how bad it is. a couple of times she has said something and I had no idea what words she said.)

Funny how older Judith acted almost exactly like Coral, with the gun and the hat and all. I'm surprised she didn't spit chewin tobacky.

So is Andrew Lincoln, and his is miles above hers! I've lived in Georgia my whole life, and I can't understand some things she says either.  And I think it's worse than when she came on the show.

    ETA: yes, AngelaHunter! Totally agree.

I enjoyed this episode very much,  I have nothing to bitch about.

That said, when Maggie talks she has one heck of an under bite that doesn't look the least bit natural.  I don't know if she has to do that to speak Klingon with a "southern" accent or not.

I was "spoiled" in last week's episode thread, so I am now wary to read episode threads.  I will just comment briefly and move on.  I am not a happy camper when a spoiler pops up out of nowhere.

YES to Maggie’s weird mouth and horrible-beyond-belief-and-getting-worse-every-day accent.

  9. As much as I hate the fact that Rick Grimes is gone from the show, I am glad he is still alive and they are doing a time jump. I honestly cannot sit through these people mourning him. While his ending is not what I wish for him, I’m glad he’s safe-ish.

I appreciated the callbacks to earlier seasons, but it’s frustrating that the show has to show those time frames and those people to make me feel that way. Starting around season four, the feeling I got watching this show began to fade, but I was still along for the ride. I always blamed stupid decisions on the writers rather than on poor choices by the characters.

I do not think I am in love with the idea of movies… I do not want to see Rick mourning his old life and all that he is missing, but I certainly do not want amnesia. I enjoy this universe, but I am afraid they are already stretching themselves way too thin. At least I have the early seasons on Blu-ray and Netflix.

Michonne looks lovely in the previews! (As per usual)

Resoled 12 times.  But I guess one day they wear out.  I hate this show but I guess I'll have to watch these boots take their last ride.

Of all the preview shots, this one got me. Rick has been the main reason I've watched this mess. Even when he acted crazily, I blamed the writers rather than it being a character fault! I know the show uses shots from earlier seasons to force us to feel melancholy, but the video preview for next week. The way they used season 1 footage and changed it up. Man. I miss those days. :(

  11. Trailers. I always think they do a good job with them. They get me excited. Wistful even. But there’s so much filler in between what they show. Oh early seasons. How I miss thee. And the idea of Rick leaving hurts. Looks like he’s taking over Negan’s jail chats since Carl’s gone.

Yes! I've been thinking and saying that for so long. No one ever has anything that might be construed as a normal conversation between real people. Ever. People just take turns monologuing and this is not how human beings communicate, even in an apocalypse. There is no longer any way to relate to, or care about, any of the characters we see.

Yeah, if this is how you have to talk in an apocalypse, should we ever experience one, I'm littering the streets with papers and cardboard boxes (as you do), then I'm out.

  13. I finally finished the ep today. Seems Rick's speech (letter?) to Coral was awfully similar to what he told him after his got his eye shot out. New world, blah blah. We'll see how long that lasts.

Sophia's hiding spot qualified as a genuine callback.  But I get so sick of hearing (seemingly almost every week) how different shots are callbacks to previous episodes.  They usually point these out on Talking Dead:  "Rick is standing next to a picture, which is a callback to season 3, when he was also standing next to a picture", or something else equally ridiculous.  It just makes the people making the show sound so pompous.

I don’t watch talking dead anymore, so I can’t comment on what they say there, but I noticed the hiding place being the same as where Carol was looking, and the speech Rick gave to Morgan when Morgan started to flip out was almost the same as the one in Clear. They do do these things on purpose to an extent, though maybe they try to make more out of nothing on talking dead than is actually there. As I said, I can’t comment on that.  I remember some of the early Alexandria episodes were all named parts of the speech Dale gave about his watch in season one.

  15. It makes me sad that the best parts of an episode are call backs to earlier (good) seasons (Sophia’s hiding spot, “you know me!”). Do the writers realize it makes me dislike the current crap even more? And that simply reusing past places, lines, etc isn’t enough to make a good episode. And the fact that they DO remember things that happened in the past but so often choose not to be consistent make me feel some kind of way. And it ain’t good.

  16. I hope they don't skip the Whisperer arc. It was decent. I've said it before: All the comic book stuff doesn't translate well to tv, but when the tv writers stray completely from the source material, the results are usually not good. Grady, anyone? I watched season 2, episode 1 today. I will always miss the early days of seeing the world itself so changed (we hardly see cardboard boxes thrown about randomly on the road anymore!) and our little group trying to figure out how to live, but the show has just gone off the rails. I think killing Negan would be a good idea actually. I did struggle with that in the comics, his living, but I don't think they'll get rid of all the Saviors since that group still exists. And as far as Maggie being leader material, I don't think they did a good transition with that either. Plus, Lauren Cohan's constant downturned mouth to enhance her accent. No.
