  1. Having just watched the "Tell All" episode, I have this to say - I don't doubt that Meri actually did divorce Kodouche in an act of self-sacrifice like they were pushing on this show, but the primary motivation was for TV ratings and ultimately money, not so much love like they're pushing it.  Mr. Snarklepuss is convinced that most of the reason they're "so busy" these days is that they spend long hours in meetings with the show producers figuring out elaborate plots and schemes for keeping people tuning into the show, and the major solution this season was the divorce, which Meri willingly took on to help the family's ultimate goal of staying on TV.

    THIS!!

Except they start out the episode with Meri saying she has no idea whether divorcing Kody and Kody marrying Robyn would actually bring about an adoption, because it doesn't appear that anyone has bothered to find out if Daddy Jessop would give up his rights.

That bugged the hell out of me.  Who in their right mind wouldn't first FIND OUT if the adoption scenario is even possible before making such a major decision?  It will be sad and hilarious when it is revealed that Meri's sacrifice was for naught because the authorities won't let them adopt even if they are married because THEY ARE ON TV BEING POLYGAMISTS!  Smdh.

As usual Janelle shows herself to be the only one in this family with any damn sense at all.  Run, Janelle!  Run far, far away!  You think we can convince Glarkware to produce "Free Janelle!" t-shirts?

  2. Yeah, I totally get what you're saying, Marigold.  And I am strongly against the attitude that you have to have an advanced degree in Bible (or anything else) in order to interpret it "correctly."  And I do believe God can inspire and guide people to understanding.  I just think that with that has to come a humble and teachable attitude, which is pretty antithetical to the fundamentalist mindset.

  3. Princess Jessa screaming "Push him, push him!" shows that they WANTED to hit that cat.  Hurry up and push him before the cat is aware of what is going on.

I guess I didn't hear that part.  Ok, I'll concede that that doesn't look good, if that was indeed why she was saying it.

I'm done now, though. We will, indeed, have to agree to disagree on this one. Thank you all for still loving me.  And not just because I have to power to ban you.  (I think?)

Please understand I still have serious issues with these people.

  4. Would YOU want to sit there while a creature 10 or 15 times your size came flying down the hill at you?   Would that be funny to you?

Of course not.  But I do wonder if they were joking with the whole "get the cat" thing, assuming the cat would jump out of the way, and didn't really have any malicious intent.  If that's the case it would have been a stupid and juvenile move, I agree, but not necessarily one that was intended to harm.  Was it at least negligent?  Yes, that I'm fine with.  But it's not like they did something that they knew would guarantee harm to the cat (shooting it with BBs or something).

I guess I'm saying I think it's completely possible that someone could (wrongly) assume that what they were doing was innocuous, the cat would run away well before he got to the bottom (which, indeed, may be what actually happened; the video footage is ambiguous) so would not be in any danger.  That doesn't seem an unreasonable assumption to me.  Foolish?  Perhaps.  But not evidence of evilness.  I think we may be assigning intent where we don't have enough evidence to do so.

Listen, it's just my opinion, and I'm definitely an animal lover, too.  I'm just trying to give a different perspective.  Luckily you all are very good about being civil with opinions you don't necessarily agree with :-) (Right?)

  5. Well, I had a Bible prof in seminary who told the story about a lady in a Bible study he was conducting who was absolutely CONVINCED that the King James Bible was written and/or translated by the APOSTLE James.  Nothing he said could convince her otherwise.

  6. Not hating, Rhondinella, I think animal lovers, myself included, saw it more like they were aiming for the cat. Why would a reasonable person do that if not to be mean-spirited toward an unassuming animal? I don't get it.

Fair enough, msblossom!  Kisses! :-)  I have no problem with branding a lot of what these people do as terrible, so I guess I can just add this on to the pile.

And, my sentiments above aside, I am enjoying the heck out of the term "cat-gate."

  7. The intent is just as important as the outcome. People are jailed for attempted murder (not Derrick was that bad), etc all the time.

Better example: Do you go through intersections with pedestrians because 'they'll get out of the way'?

No.  But I'm much more likely to cause death or dismemberment running someone over with my car than I am simply crashing into a moving feline while riding a highly dangerous cookie sheet down a hill.  How much damage could you even do to a cat just by . . . . bumping him?

Listen, I'm not saying I'd do it or that it's something I condone.  Just asking for a little perspective.  But, that's just me.  Feel free to resume your hating.

  8. Reminder:  Do NOT post any spoiler information about who the next Bachelorette will be in this thread.  Unspoiled speculation is fine, but if you've read a spoiler that is allegedly correct and want to discuss it, go to the Season 11 Spoiler thread in the Bachelorette forum.  Thanks.

  9. As a Bible professor, you are preaching to the choir. :-)

One thing I admire about Islam is that at least they have integrity on this issue: to them the only version of the Koran that is authoritative is the Arabic version.  Translations into other languages are not considered the same thing (as I understand it), and are seen as more like commentaries on the text than the text itself.  Which is why even women in most Muslim countries are encouraged to study Arabic, so they can read the text themselves.

I'd love to see this become the standard in Christianity.  But since it won't, I at least appreciate people who recognize that unless they can read and translate the original, they should not make pronouncements about the meanings of certain words or phrases.

  10. Ok, don't crucify me for this but . . . didn't the cat jump out of the way?  As cats do instinctively?  It's really hard to tell because the camera angle changes right at that point and we're seeing it from the back.  But I'm fairly certain no cat that wasn't disabled would sit there while a guy came barreling down toward him.  That's why the video didn't bother me that much.  I mean, yeah, if they were sincerely trying to hurt the cat and just failed, that would be an asshole move.  But if they were just joking around, and didn't actually do the cat any harm, then  . . . . eh, seems like a tempest in a teacup.

But maybe that's just cause my husband (not a cat lover) is constantly threatening to eat our family feline. :-) (He kids, of course.  Don't report us to PETA!)

  11. Must have been a different lipstick then, that brought it to my attention.  Or something.  I don't know why I hadn't noticed it as much before... duck lips typically bug me like crazy.  Now that I've noted them, I'll never be able to un-see them.

Well, I'm not saying she didn't have them "plumped" for the occasion. :-)

  12. Guys--the general discussion of religious beliefs (yours, mine, our, or theirs, or just . . . someone's) is spilling over into several forums when most of it is not at all directly related to the Duggars and what they believe.  We are going to 1) start deleting posts about religion outside the religion thread (as maraleia said above); and 2) even in the religion thread posts will be deleted if they are not discussing something directly related to the Duggar's beliefs and practices.

I get that many of you are passionate about your religious beliefs.  I am too.  But there are lots of other places online you can discuss those things if you so choose.  This site is about television, so let's try to keep things at least tangentially related thereto.  Plus, none of the mods really wants to have to referee a flame war about religion.

So let it be written . . . . so let it be done.

  13. I wondered if she had had some injections recently.  Were they always so puffy, and I just never noticed before tonight?

She's had a serious case of duck lips all season.  It's hard for me to look at her.

  14. I believe the reason Kaitlyn is so upset is because she most likely gave it up and then he dumped her for someone who most likely didn't.  That has got to hurt.

    THIS!

Also, did Ashley I get her lash extensions removed, or  . . . shortened or something?  Her eyes were much less obnoxious tonight.  I mean, granted, we weren't getting the really tight closeups on her face that we did during the season either, so maybe I just couldn't tell.  But she seems to have toned down the makeup overall.  She looked nearly natural.  Or as natural as a girl like that is ever going to get.  Maybe seeing herself on TV with all that crap caked on her face made her rethink the whole thing.

  15. Can't believe so many women could get themselves so worked up over this goob.

Gotta say, Carly did not come out of that looking good.  I liked her a lot more before tonight.  She certainly did seem petty, vindictive, and (as much as I hate it when people say this about women who hate other women) jealous.

Also: Carly looked a lot like Jane Krakowski, and Ashley S with her hair up was almost a dead ringer for Kristen Bell.  That's a weird thought.

  16. Well, "hate" is probably too strong a word, I agree.  But I read the tract (and I've seen LOTS like them in my life) and the people/group producing that certainly don't look favorably on Roman Catholics.  Let's not fool ourselves into thinking they're being charitable in some way.  It's ignorance (in the truest sense of just not knowing what they are talking about) and fear motivating these kinds of attitudes.

And now can we please restrict ourselves only to religious topics that directly relate to the Duggars or something on the show.  To my knowledge these tracts have nothing to do with them.  Thanks.

  17. Guys, we've started a thread for spoilers for Season 11

(aka Kaitlyn's season*, but we're not calling it that until after the official announcement) in the Bachelorette forum.  Please take any further discussion about Kaitlyn or her season there.  Thank you.

I'll be moving the posts here that talk exclusively about

Kaitlyn as the Bachelorette over to that thread.

Just to keep things tidy and avoid spoiling people in this thread for a completely different show.  Well, not really different, but you know what I mean.

*I personally will be referring to it as

    "Duck Lips Season"

    but that's probably just me.
