  1. Sounds like you need to sing to him more often, Netfoot!  and I hope your New Years is better than your Christmas was.

    Happy New Year All!

Hope your son is feeling better AuntLada!  Sick is no fun when you're 3!  Mr. HC seems to be almost over his cold...

We are headed over to a friends for dinner and will most likely be home  in time for New Years. usually I lure Mr HC out to the Hot tub for Midnight, but I don't know if he'll do it this year ( cold and all )  It's been a very quiet week, I miss TAR this time of year, I want o see all those exotic locations.

Hope everyone gets to go somewhere fun this year!

  2. Merry Christmas Netfoot and all my other Meet Marketeers and also those new at the Welcome mat.  ( Welcomeers? Matsers?) We are well, al though Mr HC is down with a bad sore throat. That's ok He doesn't love the big party we go to anyhow... Everyone got a few surprises, it's been a fun morning. Now I have a little break before the party.  I made the cheese puffs ( like cream puffs, not the Cheetos my son got all excited about!)  And the veggies and hummus, so  now I just have to make crab dip. Our house isn't big enough to hold everyone , so we just show up with hor d'ouvres.  Seriously, I'm almost 50 and I've never cooked a turkey.

Chanukah was fun but rushed. We got a little less time for holidays this year because my son's soccer team went in to the post season.  He is not a great soccer player, but he ended up on a very talented team, so after they won their season they went on to a couple tournaments. Soccer is supposed to end in November! we didn't even know AYSO had tournaments!  So that was exciting, but I really could have done something else with those weekends.  Hoping for a more normal soccer season next year.   Hope everyone has a very happy holiday!

  3. What is Jessa doing? Perhaps she's writing Thank you notes...  I mean I'm sure she's writing some, to the people they know and all. I do wonder if the random fans who sent things in are receiving any acknowledgement from the Duggar brides. I assume that's part of why they sent the present, they were hoping to get a note back.  I wonder.

Honestly I hope she is just hanging out. Reading and enjoying some quiet time, 'cause I don't think there will be much of it in her life....

  4. Oh no, Wanderwoman I'm so very sorry for you loss. So very sad.

I find cake wrecks (.com )  to be a very happy distraction ( though you might avoid the occasional baby shower cakes for  a while)  There are a lot of books about pregnancy loss, but I don't know that's there's much about loss of one twin. That's really tough. Take good care of yourself.

  5. Interesting timing. We all start talking about how neglected Jana is, and then she gets a Facebook page. It's not actually an independent life, but it's a start I guess.

I would think she'll be a tad less controversial than her sisters.   JD does look older, but wow they have the same nose. and she and Josie have the same eyes. They don't look all that related to me in  group pictures  but in pairs I can see the similarities.

Hope your surgery goes well GEML, we'll miss you!

  6. I would love to watch that! The Duggers spend some time in a Muslin country - no dating , modest dressing - some of it they could deal with, some they couldn't. Then The Duggers spend some time with the Amish,  ( who think they dress like shameless hussies!).  Then the Duggers go stay with some Orthodox Jews, who don't believe in men and women touching unless they are married.  Honestly that would make for some really interesting tv. The Duggers think they are so conservative, how would they handle being around people who are more conservative than them?  I would watch that! So much more interesting than taking the RV to Chicago!

In real life, I wonder if Michelle will be doing  blog post about her Gay sister soon? That's my bet....

  7. Eh. Jana never seems like she's really looking for publicity.  She's pretty subdued sometimes, as if she's deliberately dialing it down and not giving the producers much to work with. Sometimes I think a few of the older Dugger kids do this, especially Jana and JD. It's as if they are trying to be boring.  She may have been just fine not being included in the broadcast.

I am just guessing here but I would think if she is there, and filming is happening, she gets paid.  An actor who shows up for work, but who's part is edited out, still gets paid.  She is a legal adult so I bet she and all her adult siblings are directly paid by TLC.  I haven't the faintest idea what happens to that money, but all those adults should be getting paid individually for their work. ( and now Derrick and Ben too )

Isn't Josh sometimes listed as producer? I bet the whole "traveling on our own" plot was his idea. Political lobbyist that he is... he's the one with a family guy image to up hold.

I continue to speculate that Jana has deliberately chosen to stay home and raise her siblings. She knows her parents are not  capable of doing this well anymore.  She got the majority of her mothers attention when she was little ( both the good and the bad)  and she knows her mom can't relate to her children like that now. Michele is so very checked out from her kids, I'm sure Jana is acutely aware of this. I think Jana loves her siblings and wants what's best for them so she is choosing to stay home and raise them for a while.  And maybe she's a little tiered of diapers and doesn't want her own babies yet. I think visiting  Anna and Josh is  a break for her, only three kids instead of the usual 6 kids an 6 teenagers she has to manage at home.  Maybe she just didn't feel like being filmed.  I hope she eventually leaves the family and finds her own happiness, but I don't think that she is staying against her will.

  8. I'm really wondering what this three week honeymoon will be like for Jessa and Ben. I wonder if this is the longest they have ever been away from their families, with out some kind of supervision? I assume they drove to some vacation /rental property somewhere. Neither of them is old enough to rent a car. most hotels would only directly deal with Jessa not Ben. But I still wonder, maybe Jessa will come back wearing shorts, or a veil. Maybe they will get bored and go to Disney Word. or try another church, or drive to Vegas. Who knows? I relly hope there are no camera crews! Three weeks alone is a pretty sudden shift for these kids. especially if they mange to not have much contact with their folks.

I do like her dress, looking forward to the rest of the pictures.

There is a Jewish Custom of the couple retiring to a private room for a little bit after the ceremony. If they are observant they have been fasting so the Yichud is snack time, although maybe smooch time also.

  9. againstthewind, Hairspray/mousse Curling iron. then don't touch it. Lucille66I assume there's a wig somewhere that looks just the way Michelle wants it to and she will just transition to the wig someday ( if she hasn't already)

I read two well written articles about Modest fashion lately. One about a woman who is an Orthodox Jew and tries to be very high fashion . http://www.nytimes.com/2014/10/23/fashion/fabologies-adi-heyman-promotes-modest-fashion.html?_r=0

And another about a theology student who decided to try to be "modest" for a year ( and of course she's now writing a book)

    http://www.salon.com/2013/07/02/my_year_of_modesty/

Both of these women are adhering to modestly standards that exceed the Duggers. It's interesting to get their points of view.  Just sharing!

  10. Sometimes I wonder if Jana is deliberately choosing to stay home and raise her siblings for a few more years. This is pure speculation on my part, of course.  But she knows how completely detached her parents are these days. Last season one of the older girls described Jim and Michelle as being more like grandparents then real parents - I don't remember which one of them said it. Jana probably got the best education of the girls, since she was the first. She certainly got the most of her mothers attention, way back when - of course that wasn't necessarily a good thing. I think Jana knows her parents went over board, it's pretty obvious no ones blanket trained the younger kids.  Maybe she thinks she should stick around for a few more years, and make sure the younger kids learn how to read and her parents don't freak out at them... She clearly loves them.  I can easily turn her into a gothic/romantic heroine " postponing marriage for the love of younger siblings!"  But again, I'm just speculating...

  11. Oh Netfoot,  this puppy is causing you so much heartache.  I hope Buddy feels better soon, I hope he settles down.  I do really wonder is having him  fixed would settle him down a bit.  ( and glad you were wearing your "scary" shorts...) Our dog has recently enjoyed canned pumpkin and oatmeal. it's amazing what they eat...

All is well here, HC jr walked about 18 miles for his school walk a thon on Saturday. Mr HC had Columbus day off yesterday so we kept the kid home and all went up to the Academy of Science Museum . ( I had intended to visit the art museum across the way, but they are closed on Mondays, ah well, more science for me) Fall is slowly coming...

By the way, interesting article about TAR in Huff Po today... http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/10/13/the-amazing-race_n_5946176.html?ncid=fcbklnkushpmg00000032

  12. I had some bad acne as an adult, took Accutane twice - it helped, but wasn't perfect. ( which I always have to acknowledge when I donate blood) I remember asking my mom when her acne cleared up and she said "When I had you!" so I thought Ok 30... no she was right, having my son at 38 is what seems to have cleared it up. Those hormones just really needed to do the full flush. Anyhow , perhaps childbirth will clear up Jessa's skin. We all know that's expected of her.

I continue to think that the whole point of Ben moving in and "working" for Jim Bob was just to get him featured on the show more so TLC has to pay him. His "job" is reality tv supporting player. Hopefully he is able to save up.

  13. Every morning at my son's Elementary School, the day starts with an assembly. The kids are all lined up according to their room numbers  and we turn and face the flag pole and say the pledge of allegiance.  I run in to people sometimes who think that isn't done any more, but here in the San Francisco Bay area we still do it, every day.  The flag was at half mast today.

I know there were several meet marketeers from New York City and a couple from the Washington DC area.  I just wanted to let you know you are still thought of on this day, even out here on the left coast. My husband is from Queens so, we would even with out the half staff flag.  I always go to Tomato Nation and reads Sars post from 9/14/01. And I try to buy a New York Times, today and tomorrow.   Take good care, you guys.

Our camping trip to the beach is this weekend, the last of the season.  It's warm and still quite dry, should be lovely on the coast. Have a good weekend everyone, two weeks till  TARSday.

  14. It occurs to me that one of the few advantages to Ben  living with the Duggers is that  he will be filmed more. Assuming he is becoming part of the show now ( last Spring) that gives him an income.  I assume TLC has to  negotiate independently with him ( or his dad on his behalf, most likely)  but the "job " they've given him isn't so much "help around the yard" as it is  " join the cast of our show" .  Presumably the kid has no money. If he joins the Dugger dog and pony show early, he can save up a bit before the wedding.

I wonder if  Jim Bob and Michelle are , in fact,  having doubts about  Ben and Jessa's  relationship. They may see that he doesn't get her humor at all. I wonder if they really are trying to make sure these kids know each other well enough before the wedding.  " cause it seems like the marriage is a done deal and Jim Bob is just waiting for his discount on a prefab house.

Isn't there a story in the old testament about some one who wants to marry someone's daughter  and the father says  "You must work in my fields for a year first." and then marries him to the wrong daughter...  ( wouldn't that be funny..)

  15. Hey there, We camp at Sunset State Beach which is  close to the center of Monterey Bay. ( on the edge, not, you know, the center in the water) http://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=544  It's beautiful. We camp behind the dunes, near the strawberry fields, but spend most of the day at the beach, which is one of the biggest beaches around here. I'm in the south San Francisco Bay Area.

The Pitons are very pretty, but the Grand Tetons are a tad bigger. ( though,  pointy like that)

When I lived in the Santa Cruz Mountain s one of my cats would bring in small animal parts almost every day. Usually gophers. it was like living with a small furry hit man.

Hey the new teams went up today! Wrestlers, surfers, firefights cyclists. looks like a very physical group!

  16. Hey Netfoot, I hope none of those Hurricanes are getting close to you! And it sounds like Buddy is doing much better. If you were only going to see one range of mountains, the Grand Tetons would be a great representation. But yes, they are a little chilly.

School started last week, so life is settling back to normal. ( I still think it's wrong for school to start before Labor Day!) HC jrs  teacher is quite young! This is her second year teaching, the first at our school. Boy, is she enthusiastic! I'm sure she'll be fine, but I could tell most of the other parents were a little surprised at Back to School night last night.  She is young enough that many of us could be her parent.

I'm looking forward to  our last camping trip of the  summer in a couple weeks. We camp near the beach, collect sand dollars sometimes there are dolphins, it's great. The door zipper finally died on our old tent so we ordered a new one. it's one of the Colmans with a " hinge type door" ( it can swing open and closed) Hopefully that should save on wear and tear. we can zip it closed at night.  Our last camping trip was cancelled by the state parks department due to the drought. It's a remote sit , that I assume has it's own well, which was apparently running dry. They closed all the bathrooms, set up some porta potties and shut down the camp ground.  That's no fun.

And I'm looking forward to TAR starting up again. I do miss chatting with you guys! Hope everyone is doing  well!

  17. Hard core "Morning Sickness" is associated with High hCG levels, which  is generally viewed as a good thing.  I had very low hCG, two "Chemical pregnancies" and one happy baby - with no morning sickness at all.  The Ob Gyns would prefer you were nauseated.   This could indicate twins, personally  I think Jill was just pushing out her stomach muscles in that photo shoot, she's trying to look pregnant.

Man, that girl has been through a lot of big changes this year, I hope she's doing ok.
