  1. News and speculation about the upcoming Netflix series.

I'm so looking forward to the show - I'm really interested to see how they balance a clear admiration from the organisation with the many problematic elements of it. I think Cheer Season 2 did a good job of this but season 1 was so "Monica is amazing and that's all there is to say" when there were clearly more nuanced stories to tell.

  2. I think what the Jezebel points to is that DCCorg always seemed to view the show as complimentary of DCC and tried to control the girls to make the organization look perfect and aspirational.

It was actually a pretty tough indictment of the organization. Which was highly enjoyable for the viewer. They would defend eg weight shaming the cheerleaders but we could all see that it was really bad behaviour.

It was my favourite reality show because it was "real" - despite the scripting, this was genuinely women either getting fired or landing their dream job.

I think it's been a really under utilized asset so hopefully this is an opportunity to show more rather than less of the cheerleaders' lives. I also would have thought that the success of "get ready with me" and "a day in the life" content would allow a year-round approach rather than just TC.

  3. Between "VK's not the villain" and "she chose to step away rather than apologise" to me it sounds like there has been a real disagreement and it's not about weight.

VK has proved that she can lose weight and keep it off, if she got out of shape in off season I think they'd have just warned her and said "you're putting your audition at risk".

  4. I like seeing the ladies do power pom/DCC style best. It's cool to see their varied talents but some of the routines do seem so random I can't imagine them being used for show group let alone sidelines.

I really like seeing the girls side by side to really compare them and we can empathize with the judges more in terms of who they cut.

I'm also just really intrigued as to whether they are relaxing the standards for weight bc it's out of date or they don't show the weight critiques any more? Or maybe they just let it slide because of Covid - @ShellyB has anything changed? TBH the weight segments obviously make for dramatic TV but I can 100% see that they're out of date in 2021.

  5. 1) Kelli handled Lily's cut really badly and I'm not surprised she felt she had to be more direct with the next ones

    2) I appreciated all of the Ladies' responses -they were personal

    3) IT WAS SO HARD WATCHING THEM ALL GET FIRED FROM A JOB THEY LOVE. The audition process is way less agonising - this was so sad and I honestly was miserable for them even if I agreed with the cuts.

    4) Did anyone else think the "direction the team is going in" point meant that the vets think that some of the rookies are good dancers but bad role models? That's how I took it in the whole "America's sweethearts" context.

    5) Maddie as point is so yawn. I like her as a person but am really bored with her and Tess being so prominent when there are far more dazzling dancers and personalities.

    6) Not gonna lie - I think the girls look way less glamorous and in shape than previous years. They all look fine but usually I am in AWE of the DCC and this year I'm like "ok sure pretty girls but some are out of shape, no one's tan is even and it's clear makeovers weren't a priority"

    7) As an employer I appreciate that KJ and C are trying to make things as special as possible when there's F all you can really do other than lay on praise - covid sucks.

8 ) I thought Kelli's reflections on Vet cuts was genuine and I really felt for her when she said "being a coach is complicated" - she was doing what was best in her professional opinion and she is so passionate about the team and her job, even if I don't agree with her all the time.

Thank you CMT / DCC / TPTB for making this season - it wasn't one of the best but I am SO grateful for it - losing my favourite show would have been a pandemic low point for me (including cancelling my wedding) so THANK YOU so much.

Setting aside "internal" media (i.e. the DCCs on the podcast or talking to the sideline reporter or something else produced BY the Cowboys Organization), I would guess their media interactions are pretty benign. Let's say their on a USO tour in Korea and being interviewed by Armed Forces Network. They would likely be asked a couple basic questions...

"Tell us about the DCC's role on a USO tour?"

"What does this mean to you personally to be part of this tour?"

"How long is the tour and how often do you practice?"

"What made you want to be a DCC?"

That's it. The girls need training on what their messages should be and how to answer the question and deliver their message. That's the training part of media training and either they don't show us that portion or they don't give it to them.

On the whole I agree - it's kind of the like the crazy Miss America interview questions when they ask things like "How would you resolve the Venezuelan refugee crisis" and I'm like dude the State Department hasn't figured that out - y'all think Miss West Virginia has the solution????

But it does make for good TV when they get stumped!

I think the Marissa and Lisa hate comes from people associating them to be friends of VK.

Yeh I think that's so silly. Like sure VK is an insanely annoying reality TV character and is clearly a bit obnoxious in real life but nothing suggests she's a bitch or a bad person - she's spoilt and obsessed with DCC but that's her parents' fault. She's definitely maturing. The fact that they're friends with her reflects well on them - they clearly are able see the good side in people. I get that people think they're suck ups but Lisa has been on the team for a year - no one can be fake that long.

  8. 1) I LOVE features like the dance off - I like it when you see the weakest girls under pressure, it's usually when we get to see the most dance and also when we get to appreciate why people get cut. I practically cheered when they said call backs. Love love love.

    2) Lily didn't look good at all.

    3) Alora Rose was FINALLY tolerable - she's clearly coachable but if she hadn't been a rockette Kelli wouldn't have give her all this time.

    4) I don't really get the Lisa hate - she's a little awkward and intense but so are lots of people... it's not the worst quality.

    5) Hannah and Brennan both seem so overwhelmed and it's really sad but I also feel like you shouldn't be doing it if it doesn't make you happy - no one is forcing them to be there.

    6) Caroline is queen.

    7) Really enjoy Kristi but I would have loved more of Kitty. You get a lot of dance and technique in a Kitty episode.

I watched the insta link and its better with the music but still doesn't have much dancing.  I also don't think it takes advantage of the strong beat driven moments in the song.  That said, I don't even live there or watch pro football and know Jerry doesn't like politics in his football and can't imagine Charlotte would feel differently.

I agree that the content wasn't high volume and it wasn't a very DCC audition in terms of musicality (slow dancings vs moves on every half beat).

But it was artistic and they made it seem goofy and malcoordinated and tone deaf. I honestly feel it was so so hypocritical after Kelli's whole "oh this singer sings about racial injustice here's a video from her".

  10. Tough watch. I never rated Meredith as a DCC style performer but I was really sad for her.

Really shocked by the edit they gave Kristin's solo - it was an artistic piece and they made her look so so bad. I feel like it's a warning shot to other dancers not to do political pieces - am I being melodramatic?

Does anyone know if the weight standards have changed? I personally don't mind the ladies having more attainable figures but it's definitely a different aesthetic - are they being lenient because of covid or has the overall standard shifted?

I also think they should be making cuts earlier rather than stretching it out - Alora is so so baddddd. She slurs her way through the dance - it's weird because Rockettes have beautiful articulation. I guess she just can't get the style down.

Poor Hannah seems really unwell and in a bad place.

Kat - ughhh I like her as a person and as an entertainer but her technique is just not great. Ashlee on the other hand has worked so hard - she was one of the weakest at the start of her rookie year and is now a sensation. It shows that "you need to start when you're five to have dance technique" is just wrong. Compared to Caroline etc obviously her technique isn't perfect but her musicality is so incredible!!

Clare. Clare. Clare. Why do they have people like Alora still there when Clare will kick their butt??

I like that there's a variety of looks this year - less blending!

  11. Overall impression is that whilst the rookie class are potentially quite great, the atmosphere at TC isn't conducive to a good team. Everyone seems really on edge. I would have cut Annabella, Claire and Alora - it feels like Kelli is so wedded to having a rockette on the team when she should have been cut by now. I hate that they're making cuts so slowly.

I also feel like there are almost certainly "dunt feet in ower yoonifomm" cuts coming - some of the girls have different builds and Kelli always likes them teeny tiny.

Love CHARM. She is so great.

Really a huge fan of Sydney and also Armani - they have great attitudes and are confident.

Anyone else find Kelli trying to be woke a bit awkward - surely she should have played the song to the girls before having that message delivered?

  12. YAYYYY IT'S BACCCKKKKKK

2020 sucks but if they'd cancelled MTT I would have been done.

    Thoughts:

    1) There was too much of the virtual audition process shown but not as much as I'd feared

    2) This show works best when they use real footage - staged conversations between KJ and between the girls don't work at allllllll

    3) YAY PHIL

    4) IDK why people don't get why the girls are wearing masks - obviously the hotel cleaning staff/chefs etc aren't living in the hotel so they're going home every day and there's still risk of exposure. I honestly think they did as good a job of bubbling as possible but it's not a true bubble because they're pretty impossible.

    5) I feel it's a pretty blendy group. Not many of them stood out to me - even reading people's comments you can see that people are confusing different cheerleaders with each other.

    6) They've done so much work I don't see why  they weren't able to hire a dance floor - seems crazy that they'll spend three weeks dancing on carpet.

    7) Two of the girls looked way too stocky compared to the others - can't see them making it.

    8.  really wish they'd show more of the power pom/dcc dances at length (not just hair flips) and the footage of the girls side by side so we can compare technique and mistakes. Ultimately that more or less decides whether the girls make the team.

    9) Seems totally bizarre/ implausible that they only spoke to one girl on the first night.

The fact that no one got covid (& the incubation period isn't over, so there could still be a case), does not in any way prove the bubble was secure. How many times have people been out and about and not gotten covid (grocery store, parties, etc.)? There was certainly no secure bubble in any of those situations.

No one testing positive (not false positive) & hopefully won't in the next couple of weeks, just means the DCC are extremely lucky -- not that the bubble was secure.

And that's not even taking into count false negatives if any of them do start to feel sick . . .

I take your point but the reality for everyone trying to bubble right now is that there's a limit to how perfect they can be - no one has done them before and I genuinely think people are doing their best in a tricky situation. There is no doubt that significant lengths were gone to in order to try and keep people safe.

  14. I found Cassie's comments fair. The fact that the test was a false positive really does change everything for me.

The bubble clearly was secure because no one got Covid. I loved Hannah but I employ people who are constantly whining that things aren't Covid secure when they are just because they want to make a fuss and don't want to try and make things work.

CMT/DCC went to extreme precautions to give the girls the opportunity to pursue their dreams - it sucks that Vets got cut right at the end but maybe those vets would have been cut at finals if they'd had the typical structure. I can't see Hannah getting cut at finals but maybe if she had a less than great attitude last season Kelli would have cut her like she cut Keyra for being late.

I'm open minded about how this panned out and keen to see the CMT version so we can piece it together...

I totally agree re comments on Tess and Maddie - I like them both so much but wish they'd retired so some of my favourites had the opportunity to shine as GL/triangle.

  15. I've swung back and forth a bit since the announcement was made. I was initially really sad but I've changed my mind a bit. I kinda feel for the management/show on the bubble - I know quite a few professions that planned for covid prevention really meticulously and then, inevitably, it fell apart as people are so bad at social distancing and it's impossible to mitigate for every circumstance. I feel like they did work really hard and clearly spent a whack of money to try and make the bubble work and it must have been so frustrating and disappointing that it didn't hold up.

Ultimately whilst I find Kelli very narcissistic (esp as the host of TBAMFT) I really respect her as the director, she is really really good at what she does. She's a crappy host because she just wants to talk about herself and she would be happier if someone was asking her questions.

Sure, there has been some nepotism ... that's life. It sucks but it's the way it is - I feel VK had a strong-ish second season, she lost a lot of weight and her dancing was generally pretty good. She's obnoxious and spoilt but she doesn't ruin the whole team. She definitely needs to have a makeup consultation and be introduced to a color other than PINK. I swear her whole face is painted with the same shade of pink. I don't think VK being on the team means that Kelli is totally bad at her job.

These veteran cuts are a shame but Lily and Meredith were weaker and the others may have been cut at finals had there been a normal audition process. I find Hannah confusing in all honesty and it does seem like she was cut for objecting to the covid precautions -she's correct to do that but it must have been a stressful situation for management to deal with and the culture is so "yes ma'am" I can't see it going down well.

I guess my only fear is that some of the commenting on social media about Kat and Victoria is leaning into cyber bullying... they didn't fire those four veterans but some of the comments direct anger at them and it must be pretty disheartening.

I'm personally happy about the diversity on the squad - I hope they have more diverse choreographers and guest talent in the future too. It's good progress that they have a hair specialist as some of the hair consultations for the black girls was pretty embarrassing in the past!

I feel for the girls - they hated the touchdown decks. Hopefully as there won't be so many fans it won't be as bad as it used to be, they used to get so much harassment and abuse from being so close to the fans and literally having to dance with their asses in drunk guys' faces.

I have read every single post with my jaw on the floor.

     I HAVE NO WORDS

"We need to find PinkBlue their words"

Ultimately I think Kelli is a bit of a bitch but she has run the organization amazingly and most of the cheerleaders really really respect her even if they don't like her.

Really hope Hannah does a IG live or similar so we get the full tea  around safety and stopping production.

I've been pondering Kat a lot and ultimately I'm NOT here for people cyberbullying her for sleeping with a player - if she's not then it's cruel and if she is then that's her prerogative. It doesn't make her a slut or a whore and the contract rule is old fashioned and sexist. You can't say "it's a sexist rule but they should have cut her instead of Brennan"... it's just not relevant. I wish Brennan hadn't been cut but I think that the rule around fraterinization is ridiculous.
