  1. I guess we’ll find out next ep whose head it was bc it will be relevant to the plot...or it won’t bc it’s meaningless.

Monster!E needed a way to track the god’s ‘signature’ per Julia and the writers needed a device to trigger his suppressed memories.

My opinion of this ep is a bit out of sync with the general feel (I think). None of them (JT included) have rock voices so Whitesnake’s HIGA was subpar for me.

DGMW was gorgeous in a dreamy otherworldly way that I think evoked the whole spirit animal vibe and the fact it was Margo’s head not E. Bravo Hale!

BD was well done as the metaphor for Margo’s emotional growth. I love Margo’s introspection and how she handled herself. Feminist demons depicted by red trails is heavy-hand; not the feminism but the on the rag image.

i think overall the E! possession story is taking too long to resolve. I know that’s somewhat bc they are using it to grow M, E, and Q emotionally. But it’s eating up the whole season with this Little Bad while waiting for the real Big Bad to arrive. I don’t think a season with a major character (again) just gone works super well esp not El bc the show needs HA’s energy.

I love Zelda’s storyline but I fear for her. I’m glad they are giving Kady a purpose. Alice continues to suffer from being ‘the best’ at magic — hard to like the know it all character who lacks emotional intelligence.

    I deeply fear for Julia.

And they need to pay off Q’s suffering with some happiness in this timeline not some alternate we barely saw.

Ha, Ha  when I saw the red sand and they said it was a demon, my sexist, misogynistic mind went straight to jokingly think it was a a demon, created once a month by women to punish men. Little did I realize that I should have changed "created once a month by women" to "created by women when they get 'to emotional'".

That doesn't satisfy me because MonsterEliot would have been standing 5 feet away from Enyalius by the time he encountered the leprechaun. The only thing that might satisfy me is that he killed both girls.

He needed the first girl as a locator spell. Enyalius likes them “too weak to fight” hence picking someone sick.

Presumably leprechaun’s dead on the floor of the game room.

I wasn't sure, though, how the monster found Enyalius.  does he have a tracker on Quinn?  And why would Penny23 tranporting them back to the apartment help?  We've seen the monster port there many times.

Oh god I’m reading way into this but Julia said gods have a signature and it seems like Monster!Eliot used the severed head of his ‘type’ as a homing device???

So Margo/Janet got her ice axes like in the books. I've been hoping they would work that in.

That first number Eliot did reminded me of The Doors movie with Val Kilmer. The Lizard King indeed. This episode now has me thinking that Zelda is the person that Penny40 sees in the elevator. I can't see things going well for her now that she knows about what the library is doing.

I agree with you re: Zelda. And it seems Julia will now be the one in the most danger since I certainly don’t trust a ‘binder’ from the mirrorverse.

That is a really insightful read on the can't look away cluster of Alice's clothes as well as the discomfort she arouses in the viewer. Maybe the entire thing is intentional and is meant to evoke the discomfort we all feel.

Right we’re getting this uncomfortable mix of childlike and hyper sexual which is rooted in her arrested development due to her upbringing in magical orgy central coupled with her brother’s early death

More boobs chiming in and so glad I'm not the only one that noticed the odd costume choices. I don't always like Alice the character but the actress is a pretty woman and the outfits aren't doing her any favors. The overall effect seems to be some heretofore impossible fusion of slutty and dowdy.

Ah, I'm a little envious of my small breasted sisters who can wear anything they want with no trouble from the girls.

slutty librarian!  seriously her combo of little girl necklines with skin tight shirts and short skirts plus the little girl voice is making me uncomfortable. I wish they would mature her style.

This isn't really the kind of show where you can skip episodes. You'll be so lost.

This is so true I’ve watched them all and have forgotten plot points.  Thinking I may need to do a binge rewatch.

  8. I think Quentin and Margo are both having a breakdown.  Josh and Julia, stay close!

i think Monster!Eliot May want Q to love him and just has no language to express it. Yikes!

Alice is just tragic; so overjoyed to have helped but damn did she get Camryn Mannheim murdered? And did she unknowingly abet a terrorist act?

Original Recipe Penny...not sure I like him.

  9. Based on the Vulture article, I’m thinking the writers have been heading towards exploring Queliot in all aspects for a while. They chose to make Eliot the Monster and they chose to make the monster obsessed with Quentin after giving us LitD which means to me that there is intention to have an emotional arc for Eliot in S4 and it’s tied to Quentin. I’m not arguing they had the plot mechanism worked out bc clearly they didn’t.

I also don’t think Queliot is endgame just because I’m not sure that’s even a concept that interests Sera Gamble. I do think she feels a strong sense of responsibility to represent same sex relationships well. So I am hopeful that we’ll get a good story.

i think it’s pretty apparent the actors thought the show would go here. 😁

Seems pretty obvious to me that Q is bisexual (even Elliot is slightly bisexual), not straight. Relatedly, when I watched "A life in a day", to my eyes (to my heart), Quinton and Elliot where lovers, then they added Arielle creating a triad. Just like bisexuality is real, polyamory is also very real.

I thought that too. Although I wasn’t sure if it was fully sexual as well as romantic.

I need to go read the ep discussion for LitD. I’m not 100% sure that I ever fully understood what those scenes were telling us — El seemed to push Q away after their sexual encounter and then they had that argument about ‘live your life here you know what I mean’ then Arielle joins them. I was also struck that the son didn’t hug El (when he left) who of course parented him twice as long as Arielle since she died when he was about five. The directing choice there annoyed me since it implied to me that he was Q’s son not El’s too.

HA and JR have mentioned in interviews that the scenes are longer which gave the actors much more understanding of the relationship. So I think there was MORE fullness to the relationship and that the montage required us to read between lines.

But tying it back to this ep, it seems perhaps El did a bit of the same thing — Q made the first move but El withheld a bit from him to protect himself.

I don't think I've ever been so happy to see an OTP mapping on the show before. If the show screws me over and it's not the OTP I'll go ballistic. I loved Elliot and Q back when they lived 50 years together but i thought it was just a plot device that basically furthered their friendship. But this ending... Oh they better be going there. It will be too cruel for them to dangle this idea and just bury it as another plot device. #QandElliotForever

HA and JR are very articulate about what they think those 50 years meant to their characters.

I am somewhat amazed the actors have given such thought to it but this is clearly to them the most important relationship in which their respective characters are involved. I honestly sort of blew right past it bc of all the plot plot plot.

I also have to point out on rewatch what a fantastic job I think JR does as Quentin. He has imbuednrhe character with an essential sweetness that is lovely.

So many amazing actors on this show and really interesting characters.

Going back to rewatch….I found the whole scene with two Eliots and Quentin really confusing, and coming here has helped me make sense of it a bit. What can I say? I'm old and my brain doesn't pick up complicated plot devices the way it used to back in the day LOL. Anyway, I think I have put it all together enough to give it another go-round. As much as Hale's acting in making the disparate characters of Eliot and the Monster recognizable, when they are both in the same scene and the dialogue is moving fairly fast I get lost.

Agreed that HA and JR do have amazing chemistry. And Eliot's declaration of love was as heartbreaking as Q's suggesting that they give their relationship a chance, but as much as I've been shipping them all along, and would love to see them together, I don't think it could ever be a lifetime monogamous relationship as long as Q is primarily straight, and breaking up might be even more heartbreaking. I wonder whether they had Eliot & Q's relationship in mind from the start of the show or whether some of it ended up being chemistry-driven as they went down the line and recognized what they had.

So...didn’t Quentin and Eliot have a monogamous relationship after Arielle’s death? For decades?

Since last night’s ep aired, I’ve read a few interviews that the actors have given. And honestly, I realize how much I undervalued the impact of that experience on Quentin and Eliot’s interior landscape — not just in terms of how they relate to each other but in terms of the life experience they have now.  My goodness they raised a child! I really never thought this through before.

I never really warmed up to Elliot or Quentin but kudos to the show if they follow through.

I usually always like the side characters that never get the spotlight anyway. lol

This ensemble cast is strong IMO which makes it possible for mileage to easily vary so that people can focus on different favorites.

  14. What felt really true to me was Quentin telling Alice he was done while still being able to thank her for saving his life.  They had that intense first love that was doomed by the fact that both of them were so damaged as individuals when they came together.

I feel as if Alice’s only connection to the group is Quentin. Her focus has been magic while Quentin’s has been relationships. (He is somewhat the lynchpin that holds the group together).

Alice has a journey ahead to catch up with the others in terms of how to connect to other people. That’s something she has to do without Quentin.
