  1. It’s hard to root for most of these couples.  I do like Loren and Alexei together. Loren is beautiful as she is and does not need surgery, but body dysmorphia is a bitch to overcome. I did cringe when she referred to her surgery as a natural mommy makeover; there’s nothing natural about having surgery to fix perceived issues.  They both seem like they are good parents.
Emily and Kobe seem solid as well. I still have a hard time getting past our first go around with them; Emily was just awful and I can’t forget that. I do like Kobe but I agree with everyone that he does need to stick up for his wife.
Please let this be the last of Ed and Liz. Who cancels a wedding and doesn’t tell the other half???? Oh - Ed does! What an awful person. I don’t feel bad about referring to him as No-Neck Ed.
How are Nicole and Mahmood still married after what we saw in Egypt?? I don’t like either one of them. I couldn’t stand Mahmood in Egypt and had more sympathy for Nicole there but reverse that now.  Who forces their jet-lagged spouse to go for a long walk on the pier then invite friends over to only get in a curse-filled fight with him?  Nicole’s male friend ( I didn’t catch his name) is probably thinking what the heck did I just get myself involved in; he was the only likable part of that equation.
Sophie and Rob are both too immature to be married to anyone let alone each other.  I would be shocked if they made it. Start digging the grave on their marriage.
No Ashley-Manuel and no Jasmine- Gino- bonus!! Isn’t Angela suppose to pop up eventually?

PS- I enjoy everyone’s commentary and thought I would join in. Hope that is OK. Longtime 90 day Fiancé viewer; I can’t quit.

  2. Like a lot of you, I think we are going to have more Benson-Noah storylines. Considering  this being an episode that featured a longtime leading cast member’s departure, there was more on this personal story than you would have expected. Is Connor going to be a mini- Johnny D? His parents not as good as they seem? The anguish is only just beginning … for us. I hope Benson brought a dish, wine or something for dinner considering they gave  Noah a PlayStation and her a gift.

I am very happy to see Rollins go; Kelli Giddish did a good job making me dislike Rollins. I thought it was odd that they didn’t have at least Rollins’ kids at the wedding.  I also thought it was strange that she is considered to be an expert at forensic psychology all of a sudden; Fordham must have a low bar for requirements to be hired as a professor. I thought Fin- Rollins were slighted with their goodbye moment. And that wedding dress Rollins wore: wth?? Amish and Mennonite brides called: she can keep that dress ; They don’t even want it.

Whoops! I seem to recall a kiss on the roof between Stabler and either one of those women. Shows how memorable they were. I can't for the life of me picture Dani Beck.

I think the (vast) majority of SVU fans wish they could forget Dani Beck.  We are jealous of you.

  4. I agree with everyone who said that this should have been a 2-parter or 2-hour episode.  I think that they could have just focused on Kat, Carisi, And Fin’s cases.  Benson was way too involved in Carisi’s Case; it was like she had joined the DA’s Office.  Benson  actually took more of a leadership role with Fin and Kat;  I found it refreshing and more appropriate that she acted more like Cragen would have.  I’m not sure what the purpose of Rollins being involved with Ivy Bucci was other than to give her something to do; this part of the episode could have been dropped altogether.

What are everyone’s thoughts on Kat? I actually like her; it seems she is not very popular at least in the internet world (at least from what I have read) .  She does have a tendency to deviate from the rules but hasn’t completely derailed as of yet and I hope she doesn’t; I’m hoping she is just on the learning curve.   She is empathetic, doesn’t seem to need anger management classes, and doesn’t have any major personal issues. I hope they continue to develop her character along this tract.  It’s refreshing.

I wonder if they will have more episodes next season or start earlier next season since this year was cut short.  I also wonder what they had planned for the last 4 episodes; will those plans be scrapped or just carry over to next season?

  5. Random thoughts: Overall, I thought it was a good episode.  The highlight was Fin having something to do.  Ice T isn’t going to win an Emmy anytime soon, but I thought he did a great job conveying his despair over Andre seeing his dad die.  Joelle was off her rocker for suing him for wrongful death; hopefully, she will see the light or the lawsuit  gets tossed.

Rollins found her hair brush- good for her.

Well, Kat more than just insinuated that she was bisexual in this episode.

Since when does a captain of a busy, short-staffed unit have time to help the ADA prep witnesses for trial? Carisi is more than capable.

Benson was out of line for calling out former judge now defense attorney Barth.  Barth is right- every defendant has the right to having a defense, no matter how despicable they may be.

Sir Toby=Harvey Weinstein.  It wasn’t even subtle.

Why in God’s name would Mrs. Bucci think to reach out to the woman who her ex-husband kidnapped before anyone else?

Good for Carisi on turning Rollins down for once.  The hair flip was as subtle as Sir Toby’s chompers.

I have no idea what the poster was talking about with Kat.

The promo showed them revisiting one of the cases from At Midnight In Manhattan, the domestic abuse case that Fin worked on. The episode description says they will be dealing with several cases again with several previous perps and victims appearing.

Kat insinuated that she was bisexual when talking about meeting up with people on a dating app.  She said something along the lines of when she used an app, she didn’t know what he or she was really going to be like.

  7. I have a feeling this is just a filler episode; I hope I’m wrong.  The episode description has potential;  hope springs eternal.   More Rollins stuff...my guess is she’s being promoted up to the next detective grade from where she is.  There was a mention earlier this season about how she has not advanced in her career since arriving at SVU.  Whomever promotes her needs to be fired for bad judgment/insanity.  It is a better, albeit slightly,  alternative than she is pregnant with baby #3 by baby daddy #3.

  8. I thought it was a good episode; not great, but solid.  When was the last time that we had a fantastic episode?  Chief Garland /Demore Barnes was the highlight of the episode. He beautifully conveyed his initial reluctance to believe the accusation which then turned into anger that his pastor and godfather to his child was guilty and ended with his sorrow over not only the loss of his pastor but his friend.  His last scene when he had tears in his eyes after visiting the pastor in jail  was played perfectly.   SVU writers should remember that the intro to Garland’s family was the proper way to add some personal detail to the storyline. It wasn’t gratuitous but a thread gently entwined into the story.

Why was everyone so easily convinced that it was the pastor in the video?  Does he walk around shirtless regularly?  I also was surprised about Fin’s attitude about the case; he is usually one who takes a step back and evaluates everything before coming to a conclusion unlike other members of the squad.  I also cringed at the mention of Rollins’ mother; I was expecting her to turn up, too.

Just 1 more episode for the season...

Thanks guys. I actually feel lucky compared with those who are out of work or those who are on the front lines in the medical field and we have been able to do something to feel like we are making a difference for both businesses and individuals (while my boss has been focusing almost exclusively on businesses I've been dealing with our individual clients as well, but it has been a bit less time consuming as there are fewer moving parts and usually the deadlines are a bit more flexible) Just got off of a conference call on Payroll Protection and expecting to get to the branch by 6 tomorrow. I would just ask everyone dealing with delivery people, bankers, grocery store employees, and everyone trying to keep things going who wants to show their appreciation to not be a Benson and think your personal needs trump the rules and everyone following rules and procedures is evil, or a Rollins and think a bad break means you don't have to take personal responsibility or that you can judge people harshly based on their jobs. Be a Fin and just be straightforward and do your part. Or better yet a Carisi - we could all use some optimism!

Great analogies!!  How about being  a Finisi??

Just got around to watching this now and this pretty much sums up my thoughts. Not sure I'm going to be able to participate in next week's discussion either. I've been up to my crotch in crocodiles at work trying to keep various small businesses afloat and getting ready for the new SBA loan program coming online so it looks like I may be on the Ice-T schedule for a bit, popping in for a snarky line or two every so often and missing entire episodes while I work on other projects. I guess the show will still be around when things calm down. Heck it looks like it may still be going when I retire!

I did miss your review this past week but thank you for your hard work during this extraordinarily difficult time for small business owners and their employees.

I have noticed they like to force Carisi into scenes that he doesn’t belong in - scenes that should be done with detectives, not an ADA. I’m not sure if it’s because they want to give Carisi more screentime or if it’s because the squad is somewhat short handed, especially when Fin is off, but I’ve noticed it in several episodes. I get that it’s quite an adjustment for Carisi going from detective to ADA but I wish they would stop forcing Carisi into scenes he doesn’t belong in and instead give us more legal stuff, I want more trial scenes, we’ve only had 2 episodes featuring trials and I want to see Carisi give a closing argument. Also, give Carisi more scenes with Fin and even Benson and less scenes with Rollins. Oh and get rid of the Hadid witch, ASAP, she’s one of the worst characters in SVU history and she’s horribly wooden and drags down every scene she’s in and cuts into Carisi’s screentime.

I totally agree with you.  I remember Leight saying several years ago that he didn’t like writing courtroom scenes.  He developed Carisi as a detective and now he has to develop him as an attorney. The only way he can do that is in courtroom scenes.  And who wouldn’t like to see Carisi calling on Barba, his mentor, for some advice?  Even baby-euthanizing  Barba on his worst day would be better than Hadid.

Considering William Lewis kidnapping Liv was all over the news in SVU canon I can't think of a faster way to assassinate Stabler's character from the jump than to make it that he didn't reach out. No way would he let that go. I mean sure they've had Barba kill a baby and Jack McCoy possibly not keeping his ADAs in the loop but somehow that would be too far considering the amount of fans that would be pissed at Stabler as they're trying to relaunch him.

I learned today I don't wish The Family Rollins upon Stabler.

No one deserves the Family Rollins.

I hope they don’t throw Stabler under the bus for dramatic purposes.  Say what you will about Stabler, but I think that he would have contacted Benson after the Lewis saga at the very least.

I’m afraid that they will make the Benson/Stabler reunion as soapy as possible as well, since the writers have forgotten what the L&O franchise is supposed to be about and love soapy melodrama. It would be nice if both Benson and Stabler acted like mature adults when they see each other again though.

The whole premise of Chicago PD is extremely unrealistic - no way in hell Voight would be put in charge of a squad after being locked up - he would most likely have been fired after being jailed. Chicago PD is incredibly stupid as well as morally bankrupt and a celebration of fascism, I never watch it, and I’m hopeful there won’t be anymore crossovers between SVU and CPD (I remember hearing somewhere that the dude who plays Voight burned his bridges on the SVU set and isn’t welcome back, I hope it’s true).

A Carisi/Stabler interaction would be fascinating, Stabler was always difficult with ADA’s but we rarely saw him with a male ADA, and Carisi knows nothing about Stabler, so hopefully he wouldn’t bow to him - so far Carisi has been much better than I expected regarding him not bowing to St Olivia as ADA.

SVU loves to assassinate characters (although I’m certain McCoy isn’t the DA anymore, Leight had an unnamed “new DA” in his last tenure as showrunner, so I think this is another new DA, but it’s still a travesty that they’ve trashed the DA’s office and implied they aren’t trustworthy without explicitly mentioning there being a new DA, it enrages me and it shows that the SVU writers have no respect for continuity or for the franchise), the worst character assassinations have been making Barba a baby killer and having Stone stage a sham trial because of how much he loved St Olivia, so I wouldn’t be surprised at all if they throw Stabler under the bus for drama as well, besides I think they want to amp up the melodrama for the Benson/Stabler reunion and the best way to do that would be to have Stabler and Benson not having spoken since Stabler left, if Stabler reached out after the Lewis ordeal, that would mean there wouldn’t be much melodrama when Stabler and Benson reunite, so yeah I bet they have it where Stabler and Benson haven’t spoken since Stabler left.

Voight makes Rollins look like a rule-abiding detective, also.

One thing about Carisi that needs to change: he needs to remember that he is no longer a detective.  I’m not sure why he’s going out with someone from the unit while they are building a case; that is no longer his job.  It is difficult to disengage but he needs to do this.  I do miss the Fin/Carisi pairing, though.

It would be great if instead of making the Benson/Stabler reunion angsty and soapy it was low key and normal.

Stabler looks great compared to Voight I agree, Stabler isn’t corrupt, Voight breaks the law in almost every episode.

A Carisi/Stabler interaction would be interesting IMO.

    LOL at Rollins banging Stabler.

I wish they would handle the Benson/Stabler reunion as low key as possible too, but sometimes I think the SVU writers believe they are writing for Days of our Lives.  It would be refreshing but they are going to milk it for all the angst they can.

How is Voight even still a cop let alone running an elite unit?

A Stabler/Carisi interaction is a good wish for a crossover event.  Any thoughts on how it would go?  We don’t have any inclination that Carisi is familiar with Stabler.  Hopefully, he would not be deferential but Stabler will probably be condescending and difficult if he finds out Carisi is a new ADA.

Agreed - Tucker was a great character who could call Stabler out, and it would’ve been nice to see them interact again.

Voight + Stabler =  an automatic no watch for me, they both don’t give a fuck about people’s rights and like to rough people up, Voight is basically just Stabler on steroids and with no one to reign him in. At least with Stabler, Cragen and IAB could reign him in.

    Random thoughts:

It’s inevitable that there will be a crossover episode.  We might as well as prepare ourselves for it.

I hated that they killed off Tucker, too; Bobby Burke was so good in the role.  Tucker provided some necessary depth to the series, which has been lacking for the past few seasons.  Meloni and Burke played very well off each other.   Can you imagine Stabler’s reaction to finding out about their relationship?

I would have liked to have seen a Stabler/Barba (before his character was destroyed) interaction.

Voight makes Stabler look like an angel by comparison.

How long do you think it will take Rollins to bang him?  I’m assuming he’s divorced from Kathy by now because who could handle having him at home for any length of time.

I know they won’t do this, but instead of having an angst-filled conversation, Benson and Stabler greet each other with a “Hey, Liv. Hey, Elliott”.  We find out that they have been in contact with each other over the years, perhaps since the William Lewis saga.

In the beginning and the first few seasons, would you say he was just a touch overly concerned? But when Leight came in and involved his family more, his strings became more taunt. And in the last couple of seasons (while there was a negotiation for more money), I thought he was turned into a burned-out cop, and that led to his retirement.

Lol- Who wouldn’t be wound as tight as a drum if Kathleen was your daughter??

Minor correction: Leight didn’t come on board until after Meloni left.  Neal Baer was the showrunner for the majority of the Stabler years.

How awesome would it be if Stabler would have a detective/cop in his unit who was just like him.   That would pave the way for a visit from Cragen ...and Huang.

I would expect a crossover episode or 2 (at least) with the new show.  I’m sure it is not a stretch at all that organized crime and sex trafficking, etc cross lines. So many viewers are going to want the Stabler/Benson reunion and I’m sure Meloni and Hargitay are probably going to push for it, considering they get along well together in real life.  I can picture it now: Benson whispering “why haven’t you been there for me? “.  I would enjoy seeing Fin’s reaction to seeing Stabler again.

I didn't quite buy that the video would go viral so fast. With so much porn out there what were the odds of a parent just happening to find it.

Also why exactly was the video released. Based on the second half of the episode the company boss had pretty specific rules for what happens and when videos are leaked based on his pimping of dancers. But this one seemed to be leaked for no reason.

I just got around to watching this episode and I had the same thoughts about the episode.

No Benson pep talk at the end! She couldn’t  even muster a  “Hey, there’s new porn coming out every day; your video will be forgotten in no time!”.  I’m surprised there was no mention of Noah with an episode about dancing.

It was an ok episode but predictable.  Who didn’t call that Alistair was behind everything from the beginning?  Lol- why didn’t Alistair start sweating profusely, shaking uncontrollably, pee himself, etc simultaneously  when Benson introduced herself if Barba spoke of Benson? Barba obviously didn’t tell him that not only is she tenacious but can cause a person to become a shell of their former self.

I don’t know why SVU likes to trash their ADA’s - what happened to Barba and Stone was atrocious - they destroyed Barba over the course of a couple of seasons, neutering his personality and turning him into a Benson Bot, and they managed to destroy Stone all in one episode, all for St Olivia as well. And yeah Cabot had become a borderline vigilante. If they ruin Carisi I will lose it, I don’t think they will since he’s well liked but then again I never thought they would do what they did to Barba or Stone either.

Well, let’s hope that Carisi doesn’t take any cues from Barba and Stone, both of whom he liked and looked up to professionally.  I could see him throwing himself on the sword for Rollins for some God-forsaken reason. And Barba was wildly popular with SVU fans.

Have you watched any of the episodes this season?

I’m still pissed at Stone’s exit, it was beyond stupid and awful. I liked Stone and thought he added a lot to the show, and to see his character assassinated in an atrocious way really enraged me - he was always so ethical and by the book and to see him throw all of that out the window for St Olivia really sickened me.

Hope you, and everyone else, are doing well during this crazy time.

What is with SVU committing character assassination with their regular ADAs? Stone; Cabot became something of a vigilante for victims of domestic violence; and what they did to Barba was especially egregious as he progressively became a shell of his former self.  Hopefully, the cycle has been broken because I could not handle that happening to Carisi.

  20. I unfortunately didn’t get a chance to read every single comment on this episode so if I am being repetitive, I apologize.  I had an additional thought on Randall’s obsession in getting his mother into this clinical trial.  There is a huge part of his narcissistic belief that he knows what is best for Rebecca, but  I thought there was additionally an underlying current of punishment. Rebecca took his birth father away from him (from Randall’s point of view) for all but 1 year or so of his life, so now he is going to push her into being away from her family during a critical  part of her life.  He blatantly guilt-tripped her into doing this trial when she was very clear about her desire to spend quality time with her family while she could still enjoy and remember them.  He may believe that he is doing this in Rebecca’s best interests, but I think subconsciously he wants to punish her.  Just a thought.

One other thought:  Mandy Moore is killing it as Rebecca.  How gut wrenching the decision to agree to Randall’s wishes was so exquisitely expressed by her facial  expressions alone.  She deserves an Emmy nomination /win for her work.

I interpreted that the victims and perps from earlier this season are in Episode 20, which will probably end up being the season finale, based on the article.  I thought he meant that Episode 24, which was slated as the original season finale, would feature 2 prominent returning characters.   I didn’t even consider that it may be a perp or victim; I just assumed it was a regular or recurring character.  Interesting perspective, Dttruman.

Nope. If the writers want to keep someone they have no problem showing them fucking up and getting someone killed but keeping their jobs. They will even have the family forgive the character that got a squad member killed and tell us that we didn't see what we saw and it wasn't really that character's fault. RIP Mike Dodds.

I thought it was very human for Chief Dodds to react poorly to Benson after what happened to Dodds Jr.   It was unrealistic for him then  to encourage the Higher ups to promote Benson to captain as part of his demotion, especially considering her missteps in her leadership role.  God forbid anyone hold Benson accountable.

As for Rollins, yes, she should no longer be a cop after all that she has done.  Even if you don’t take into consideration her gambling problems and how she treats certain types of victims, the “Book of Esther “ episode showcased her poor decision making.  Her actions (in New Jersey no less where she has no authority) directly led to that standoff, with deaths of some of the kids and injuries to some Jersey cops.  New Jeresey would have been screaming for her head.  And then Benson allowed Rollins to interrogate the father; in what universe would that happen?

Rollins frequently makes me consider her a female version of Stabler.
