  1. For people who like fudgsicles, the Weight Watchers Giant Chocolate Fudge ice cream bars are pretty tasty and a generous size. They also come in a "snack" size, but pfft.

I read recipes the same way I read science fiction. I get to the end and think, "Well, that's not going to happen."

Is it all the spices? That's usually the stopping point for me.

    Jalapeno corn pudding casserole tonight.

  3. Why are many fictional private investigators poor? Barely scraping by in ratty apartments, behind on their bills, can't pay their long-suffering assistants, tired, beat up, unshaven, not eating (but always drinking). The females are allowed to be less grubby but they're living hand to mouth as well. They frequently devote their entire time to clients who can't pay. If they ever do get a bit if a windfall from a job, they somehow lose it or give it away.

I gotta think that most detectives IRL wouldn't stay in business if they're constantly in the red.

Tonight I had leftover flank steak and crack potatoes.

What has happened to the price of flank steak over the years, anyway? It used to be a cheap cut of meat because it's so tough and now it's more per pound than top sirloin at my grocery. Scarcity plays a part because there isn't a lot of it on a cow, but that's always been the case.

  5. I liked the Raza's planet-hopping scavenger hunt but am sick of everyone in Zairon, especially Misaki and Teku and Ryo and all the generals, guards, and scientists. Really, everyone.

The guy who was holding Ambrosia hostage was such a clodhopper bad guy stereotype.

My guess is that Six is being used without his knowledge, but at least he'll be back in the main story next week.

I could not believe that the Classic Trilogy guys who did the musical tattoo used SEVEN lines. What the hell? And why didn't their canvases tell them there should be only five?

There's just no excuse. We see the contestants looking up images online so it's not like they're forbidden from using any references. As bad as the artists can be, the canvases all approve the images before needle is laid to skin so they're just as much at fault.

Neither did Christian. They have three finalists returning.

My teeth are gritted so hard.

I've come to terms with veterans returning because an Ink Master should be able to beat out other great artists. But I will never be okay with the unfairness of the returnees coming in late and getting a free pass on all previous challenges.

On a selfish note, it also deprives viewers of seeing more expert tattooing from the jump. Who wouldn't rather have seen Christian's or Tommy's work than the sub-par Tri Cities team?

Ach, bad thoughts! I already have to avert my eyes whenever he's on screen.

Also Stanley Tucci, Fred Ward, Stephen Tobolowsky, Michael Beach, Keegan Michael-Key, Danny Trejo, and J.K. Simmons -- I'm always so happy to see any of them pop up in something.

J.K. Simmons is a highlight for me and always brings it. Even his commercials.

I ❤️ Laurie Metcalf - I will watch her in anything. She's sooooo good!

Her guest spot on Horace and Pete was revelatory. I was so tickled when it was announced that her daughter would be playing her in Young Sheldon.

  10. Ear tattoos! That was new. It was technically difficult because of the placement but two hours seemed generous. The team that was bitching about how the hell to do a dragon, gawd. You simplify; it's a freaking inch long.

I would have liked Nunez and Peck to pontificate on which tattoos looked like they weren't inked by the same person when they didn't already know.

It's good that Tri Cities was finally flushed after circling the drain since the first episode, but I still want one of the returning teams to go.

  11. I had a bowl of cauliflower for lunch. I know you're all jea--lous.

Of course I went with the microwaveable bag. My grocery also sells packaged sliced squash and onions, which I pay twice as much for. OMG, the thought of cutting vegetables myself!

I wonder how Debbie will react when she inevitably finds out about Ruth's abortion. Unfortunately I don't have all that much faith in Sam to not accidentally blurt it out.

I hadn't even considered that. Ugh, painful. I wouldn't put it past Sam to deliberately let it slip if he's worried that Debbie and Ruth are becoming close again and that undermines their ring rivalry.

Rhonda broke up with Sam, in this instance.

Then he lied and said it was his idea, which kind of cracked me up. Typical!

  13. All the "worst of" and "hate" topics are fun for sure, but here's some cheerful appreciation for those days when viewers' eyes aren't completely narrowed.

Sorry to sputter in advance, but if someone posts a like there's no need to follow up with a disagreement. Shoo on over to the dislike topic for that.  ;-)

The Claws forum reminded me how much I've enjoyed Niecy Nash over the years. I first became aware of her on Clean House, where she was a complete delight and I've genuinely liked her in everything she's done since then.

There aren't many actors I enjoy enough to follow, but I will watch Timothy Olyphant in anything.

No matter how many messes she makes or steps into, I still have an abiding fondness for Rosie O'Donnell and am always pulling for her to do well.

As far as characters go, I loved Harold Finch in Person of Interest beyond all reason. I don't know why I'm drawn to the super smart but socially repressed types, but there it is.

Niecy telling the show runner that she's never led a show and the show runner saying never mind that, you're leading this one.

I'd say she led Clean House for ten seasons! That was some fine reality show acting.  ;-)

Unless that is Roller's twin, it has got to be a dream/hallucination. How could they have known that Virginia would shoot him? Where are the scars from the attack? Maybe they have an explanation, but it is difficult to come up with a believable one.

This is pissing me off more than is sensible, but they put his body in a small motor boat and set it on fire! Even if he wasn't really dead and had roller-ed out of the boat shortly after it was launched, that was still a lot of burning. I guess the police/coroner could have been bought off, but wasn't the body forensically identified?

  16. Asshole Marty Rathbun has been releasing a series of Scientology-produced videos to attack Going Clear, then he turned to Leah. The latest sling the expected mud about Aftermath and its participants and are featured on one of Scientology's smear sites.

If you have a YouTube account and want to take a tiny slap back at Marty, you can downvote the videos. Scientology bots have been watching to increase view counts; the original videos were getting about 1100 views each until the bots increased them to around 30K. But you have to be logged into your account to register a vote, so those continue to be low.

  17. I always enjoy seeing what the contestants come up with for their savory fillings and sides -- it's a reminder that these folks are excellent cooks as well as bakers. If any of them invited me for dinner, dessert wouldn't even be the thing I'd be most looking forward to!

  18. Sunday dinner was takeaway chopped pork from my favorite barbecue joint, with sides of corn fritters and lima beans. Good thing the restaurant is about 10 miles away or I'd be showing up there a couple times a week.

P.S. I'm happy to report that my dish was completely eaten.

What did you take? I always avoid my block parties, so good for you. What part of the country are you in with so many European emigres? Sounds like the food was pretty American?

Oh I love a ripe cantaloupe. With Parma ham, procuitto or cottage cheese with liberal fresh ground pepper on top.

Now there's a food gripe for me -- finding firm, small curd cottage cheese. Imagine an old time "diet plate" from the 50s with a scoop of cottage cheese on it. Every brand I've tried from the supermarket is very loose/liquidy that couldn't stand up to a scooper for love or money. I've tried draining it but it's not the same. Ricotta has the right texture but I don't really like the taste of it plain.

  19. Okay, then.

Storylines were okay, acting was okay, characters were okay, the 80s were okay. I probably wouldn't watch a second okay season because there are many more interesting options.

I wonder if (because he was so perfectly suited for it) Maron's part was increased as shooting went along, because I came away thinking he was the actual star/main character of the series.

^^^ They sure didn't skimp on the bacon. It looks good. Have you tried a BLT with avocado?

You'll be shocked to hear that the actual sandwich didn't measure up to Arby's promotional photos. There was a decent amount of bacon, though.

I'm not a big fan of avocado slices, although a smear of guacamole on a BLT in place of the mayo could be interesting ...
