I like this show a lot. I don’t find the kids bratty. I find them interesting and artsy.
I think Max could work since Sam got her UK citizenship, which would include the kids?  ETA maybe not, seeing other posts above.
You can’t hop on a quick train to Liverpool from London, BTW.  My husband had to take a bus between Liverpool and London a couple of years ago. It was the most direct and cheapest way. England has a great National bus system. For a small country it’s hard to get around between some places.

This show hits me in all the tender places.  I want the life and relationships she has. The relationships with her kids, and mom, and brother is so beautiful. I don’t care about nitpicky stuff- this is purely aspirational and it makes me weep with its beauty.

I’m looking back at old posts to see if everyone was hate watching earlier. That’s what seems to be going on now. I see what you see in this show. It’s a loving circle.

Thanks for your comment. I’m so over reading comments from people hate watching shows! I love this show- everyone is flawed but I see such deep love between all of them and it’s an incredible unconditional love. The love Sam has for her kids, mom, brother, friends. The love the girls have for each other and family.  It’s such an honest love that can tolerate imperfection and they seem to actually be interested in each other as people.

I'd rather have their relationships than what passes for superficial acceptance in so many families. But I stay away from these forums these days- the intense negativity spoils this show I adore, unfortunately. Difference of opinions are interesting, but posters who seem to enjoy hating on a show so gleefully aren’t fun to read.

I feel like the last few seasons have been overdone on the tragedy espeically the finals.  This show just isn't must see tv for me anymore.  It is more like, "oh, midwife was on.  I should check it out.  Do I want to see death and suffering?  Eh...   um... no... maybe I'll fastforward through some bits.

I don't mind the more serious stories.  Every bit of Val's grandmother has been tremendously well done.   But I just don't feel like we're getting the character moments that we used to that provided the light to contrast the dark.

If you think the show has gone dark, don’t read the books. I sobbed through each one of her memoirs. The show sugar coated a lot of the reality of those books!

So Ashton has stuck his tongue down a coworkers throat without her consent and caused $1000 worth of damage during a work sponsored event but Kate throwing a pair of the deck crew’s pants, which they neither purchased or washed, is still the height of disrespect?

It is when someone is a Misogynistic creep and everything is Kate's fault.

I can't tell you how pissed off I was about them NOT know Hemingway.  Vicki is 2 years older than me, Hemingway was required reading in high school, right?  Maybe I'm living in a Hemingway bubble because I live across the street from Oak Park, Illinois (his birthplace) and Hemingway is a THING here in Chicago.  The tour guide never told the story about the swimming pool (or it was cut) its a cute story.  Me and my mom were just there in March - I love tours of old famous people's homes, whether I really knew of them or not.

Complete side track, but we just visited the FLW House and Studio in Oak Park and just loved it. Can’t wait to visit the other FLW sites!

I thought that too but the house looks different now when they rebuilt it. Kate still went there but the memory wouldn't be the same. I like that they did the cabin. If the house was the same and she did that, I would have cried.

I think they meant Randall's house in NJ, not the house they grew up in.

I thought that’s where they were going with it too, given that they made the point of showing Randall's house in the today timeline. The cabin completely surprised me!

Felt the same thing about Rebecca's complaining that she is only getting an entry level job.  Guess all the time singing in bars doesn't cut it in the real world.

That’s not at all how I interpreted her sadness. She wasn’t crying because she could only rate an entry level job and somehow she was entitled to better.  Instead of a two-member team supporting their family, she is now the sole supporter of her family, and her late 40s she has to start over, which requires an entry level job.  It’s demoralizing to all of sudden have do it alone, especially when it wasn’t your own choice. That she’s starting from scratch is hard.   She and Jack were talking starting a business together, or even if she rejoined the workforce she’d have him by her side.
She’s had to be the tough one for a long time now, and she’s earned a few self pitying tears.

I thought the boyfriend was super rude to abbreviate Randall’s name without permission AND belittle Kate’s movie choice. It’s fine not to want to see Practical Magic (And suggest something they both like), it’s not fine to demean your girlfriend for her desire to see it. There could be situations where the “12yrs old girl” line could be taken as a funny joke, but this wasn’t one of them. Kate was not laughing (genuinely). Alarm bells for me.

I think Rebecca was concerned about the banana because no that’s not a proper meal- Kate’s probably trying to drop weight really quickly that she gained after Jack’s death hence an 80 calorie lunch, and that’s not the healthiest thing either. But fat people cannot win- eat less and people are mad that you’re not eating enough .....but you’ve got to restrict your calories to lose weight!!!

I also think the boyfriend may be the one pushing her to lose weight. Making her feel bad about herself is another thing abusive boyfriends do.

This could be about almost anything - his boss passing him over for a promotion, a trainer commenting on his progress, or whatever. Doesn’t have to be about Kate at all - could be her jumping to that conclusion that leads to a big fight.

We didn’t even see her jumping to any conclusion. She saw it, looked concerned (maybe she’s worried about him) and going to take the photo.

I think Toby was mad that Kate lied to him about it, not that the baby had his first solid food because the neighbor gave it to him.  If Kate had told him when he got home from work that Jack had eaten some avocado that day, they could have celebrated together.  Toby might have been a little disappointed, but he wouldn't have gotten mad about it.  The problem is Kate didn't tell him, and then didn't tell him when Toby fed him some avocado, so turned it into a lie that he believed.  The lying is the problem.

Well, let’s not forget that before Toby left he told Kate “only boob juice” (ugh) until he got home so he wouldn’t miss the big first bite. He communicated to her what a big deal it was for him (perhaps he was overplaying it, but she wouldn't know that) and she was reacting to that.

Then unexpectedly she let the moment get ruined (her internal monologue no doubt) and felt guilty. Then Toby got baby Jack to eat, seemed so happy, and didn’t want to ruin it again.

But then he’s so excited about “Jack's first bite” video getting likes, so she felt compelled to be honest. Maybe so he won’t feel stupid later, having made a big fuss, finding out the truth. It’s a small thing all around, and it’s not a big deal if she had kept quiet or decided to tell. Either way it’s not a big deal, and just a new parent thing to get through.

She also fully recognizes her frustration with his weight loss is rooted in complex feelings and history, much of which she owns and is her self-described “evil” feeling. She was very emotionally healthy about her reflection on it. And she chose not to confront him about the text in the middle of the holiday and on the heels of her “avocado-gate” misstep. Also thoughtful and self aware.

I don’t think she deserves a lot of the criticism she gets.

That's Kitty. Cecily was GC's love interest. They did not go that far in their relationship.

    Right, read too fast.

I don’t think she’s with child- they explicitly said they wouldn’t have sex until they were married so I think it was just something GC and she said to stop the marriage.

Sometimes I have trouble understanding the accents and/or the sound is muffled, but I could have sworn I heard Cecily say she was with child?

Yes, she told Ned in his cell before he died.

ETA never mind, thinking of wrong character

I didn't get how the Cecily subplot was resolved. Did the Poldarks spirit her away to Jamaica with Kitty? If neither her father nor no one else is going with her, surely she can do whatever she wants once she disembarks ... unless there's going to be someone waiting for her. That was a puzzlement.

I think she legit realized that she didn’t want to marry. She was dubious about marriage to begin with and repeatedly said it would limit her too much. I think she truly loved/infatuated with GC, but realized it wasn’t her path.

I think she’s traveling to the New World to be free and be independent.

Kevin walked off because he was in the middle of preparing dinner. It is true that he does not kiss Kate’s ass and let her run his department. No job Is worth that. He would be better off jumping before he is pushed.

The Captain is looking for an excuse to fire him. That’s no way to run a railroad.

So you say “excuse me, I need to return to the kitchen. Can we continue this later?”

Kevin's a douche and no Kate hate will compensate for that.

She does.  The second she sees him have to snap his friendly celebrity setting to “on” she realizes she’s being a dick to him and apologizes.

Yes, that was exactly my point. That she realized she could have empathy for him when she realized that.

I took it as Kevin was showing her that even though you're having a shitty day, you can be nice to people.

I saw it as he’s not allowed to not be nice to people- he has to be on all the time for his fans. She actually has a luxury he doesn’t. Maybe she can have some empathy for the fact he always has to be this certain persona.

To clarify, Kevin is not in Kate's department. The stews are her department. The deck hands are Ashton's department. Kate, Ashton and Kevin report directly to Captain Lee. Kate talking to the Captain about Kevin is an entirely different situation that cannot be compared with Ashton being responsible for the deck hands.

In other words, there is no one else who can relate issues with the Chef, since he has no supervisor other than the Captain or even underlings, who can bring issues forward. He has no one to hold him accountable to the captain. If there are problems, it’s really only Kate who is in the interior to see them and also reports directly to the Captain, to regularly have his ear.

Oh gawd, I hate Amy Schumer. But I enjoy this show.

Yeah, I’m a marginal Amy a Schumer fan (but a huge Tom Hanks fan), but I’ll take any pressure to find a home for this show I can get, lol!
