Yes, JJ Dolan's (the pizza place... it's apparently an Irish pub/pizza place) is real.

Thanks for the information on the pizza place. I'm glad that they plug Hawaiian businesses on the show! I remember reading about sales from Kona Brewing Company increasing dramatically after Steve was shown drinking a Longboard (which are quite good), and don't forget the cocoa puff pastries. I imagine there was a run on the cocoa puffs when they announced the (fake) incoming ballistic missile attack earlier today in Hawaii.

I know this is the Hollywood version but how long do ATMs hold their camera footage for? It seems unreasonable that they could pull that footage weeks to months later to prove that the guy was innocent.

this was the confusing part to me, I don't use ATMs so I don't know their video capabilities. However, the footage showed him leaving the door, and then getting into a car. Wouldn't the car have been blocking the view of the door in that case? I don't think those cameras have any kind of panning (side to side) capability, I think they are fixed at one focal depth? But, if that is the only "suspension of belief" required for a 5-0 episode, it is considerably fewer than normal. Is that pizza place real? Just wondering if they did yet another product plug/product placement. And, we never got to see what it looked like but I have been craving pizza ever since. One last observation, I don't think Jerry was in this episode? Danny's screen time was minimal. so he's bound to be prominent next week.

As I remember, Gabriel told Adam to just give him the access codes to the account(s) & he'd get the money himself (& I think the henchmen were going to stay behind & kill Adam & Kono, privately). Adam told Gabriel he couldn't do that; the account(s) had some sort of voice-activation system tied to Adam's voice & (at least) he had to be there to initiate the different steps of the transfer. That's at least partly how Adam ended up bleeding badly on the floor of the bank branch in that ep. Kono escaped from the henchmen at their house (either they died or escaped) & she ended up drawing her weapon on Gabriel, to try to end the situation as quietly as possible. Then, as I remember, Gabriel shot Adam & ran off, evading capture.

I'll have to watch that again, I know that Adam did tell Gabriel he would have to go with him to do the transfer due to some safety net with being there in person.  Since Adam didn't request to speak to Kono prior to the transfer, you wonder why the henchmen didn't kill her as soon as Gabriel/Adam left for the bank? Anyway, Kono was able to tilt her chair towards the table where the scalpel was left, grab it and cut through her bonds even though she only had a few seconds before the guy with the white mask showed up. She then stuck the scalpel through his neck, managing to kill him instantly (not sure how that works medially but it doesn't pay to question these things too closely). This was a particularly gruesome show, I've never checked to see if it is the same writer that has the "bloodbath" scripts?

And, from Rambler's comment above, I forgot to add the officers guarding the round-up gang members into the body count, so it was in the 20's, easily. Not sure what the record would be, if anybody has an idea, please share. I would also think McGarrett has taken out at least a 100 people, you kind of wonder what that would do to someone's psychological well-being at some point?

No, Adam was Yakuza. They downplay that now and try to make him seem like he was always a reluctant player, but he was definitely a criminal.

I remember a scene where Adam, with 2 Yakuza thugs, had their guns drawn, can't remember if it was on Steve or someone else? Hardly the thing you would expect from a "legitimate" businessman. Fishcakes' recall of the story arc with Michael (Adam's brother) and Gabriel is accurate. The episode where Gabriel manages to get the money (150 million or something) from Adam was right after the wedding. Gabriel shows up at their door with a box (for a Yakuza member Adam didn't seem very wise about security) and then uses a Taser on Adam and Kono. He gets some henchmen over and they start pulling out Kono's teeth until Adam agrees to go to the bank with Gabriel and transfer all the money to some overseas account. I'm not a banking expert, but, I'm pretty sure such a thing could NOT happen, or come close to happening, in real life.

  5. What I could see happening for next season or beyond, renewal or not, is a "spin-off" show with Adam heading the organized crime prevention unit in Hawaii. That way if Steve, Danny and even Lou exit the series, he could keep going with some of the other regulars (if not all of them), and bring in other characters. And, the possible return of Kono and maybe even Chin, since he is in California with a 5-0 type group? At least that would give Lenkov some leverage on salaries or wages. I think Adam could carry a show, I like the way IAD plays him and he is very believable. Let's face it, crime on Hawaii is never going to disappear.

Last night's episode was fun, I think I counted either 17 or 18 kills. That is much higher than recent shows. And, I kept telling the TV "the mastermind here is the computer hacker guy from early in the season"! That is why the feeds were cut when Jerry was monitoring the detention facility. And, I also wonder why the large group of Japanese hired guns didn't indiscriminately start shooting the thugs in the cyclone fence compounds, as they were all "competition" for their boss?

  6. Granted, Hawaii 5-0 doesn't always play by the rules. But, as a convicted felon, it will be interesting to see if Adam will carry a firearm since that is against Federal law. However, if the Governor restores his civil rights, it would be okay. Maybe they will issue him a 5-0 heavy duty slingshot? It will be interesting to see if Lenkov just skirts this issue or actually covers it. Seems like a long 3 weeks since we've had a new episode, looking forward to it!!!

The small useless hole that the bomb squad made in the wall was ridiculous, well worthy of a nitpick.  To me, it was an example of how this show has to always have "just one more thing" go wrong.  The hole couldn't possibly be done correctly because then Grover wouldn't get to smash the wall down.

It also wouldn't have given Grover a chance to show off his prowess with a sledge hammer, as previously demonstrated in the episode when he went to Chicago and tore up his ex-partner's house looking for the stolen money. I'm not sure it has been mentioned yet, but, how is some guy off the street able to get into a secure quarantine area in the first place? The show didn't give that exposition since it would be quite unbelievable, I hope! Still, an enjoyable episode. As usual, you have to suspend reality at least once during a Hawaii 5-0 episode, but the scenery is always worth the watch.

  8. If you wanted to flood a bathroom, isn't it easier to plug the sink and turn on the taps? Breaking through the wall and ripping a pipe off seems like a lot more work (but a great way to burn off some frantic energy).

It would also be faster to break both of the pipes and not just one of them, seems like the job would be done twice as fast? Also, why didn't they go in through the ceiling? The hallways had the suspended soundproof tiles, although an isolation ward would most likely have a plaster roof. Still, you don't need a bomb to get through plaster.

  9. The rest???? Lou and Jerry???? And maybe Adam? Who else is there? If that is their only hope, they are doomed.

I'm sure that between them, the near-genius minds of Flippa and Kamekona could figure it out in 4 hours or less, especially if there is some profit in it for Kamekona. Oh, and don't forget Eddie. The big question is whether, faced with 8 hours to live, Danny and Steve continue to argue and bicker, and whether Junior protests the fact that the HPD reject is on the 5-0 team and he has to complete training? That could make for some uncomfortable conversations in the future, assuming some/all of them survive. I don't know how many times they have had an abandoned yacht or boat in the storyline? Maybe this is a recurring dream of Lenkov's?

  10. I remember when Steve had to take the 10 million dollars in a duffel bag to Victor Hesse in an earlier season that he and Kono looted from police evidence. It was relatively compact, I don't recall the duffel as being oversized. If bundled at 100 dollar bills, 10 million dollar would weigh about 225 pounds. It seems like the car trunk had more than that much money, compared to the size of the duffel Steve was effortlessly carrying. Also, it seems ludicrous that the thieves would be driving the same car with the money in it when the fake cop went in to kill the bank teller. However, it is Hawaii 5-0 and you have to park some of your logic and sensibility at the door when you tune in. It was good to see Adam back and I'm curious as to how they will use him going forward? Seems like he could run the restaurant, with his business background. Also, with mention of Doris in this episode, could it be...? As long as they don't bring back his sister, go for it. And, I was really disappointed to hear about the "girlfriends" in Episode 7. Are we stuck with another pathetic Valentine's Day show with the bimbos?

Was Kamekona at the party?  Seems odd that Flippa would be there and not Kamekona.  Why was Charlie at the party but not Grace?  Why wouldn't Adam have been there?  He wasn't with Kono.  I get that maybe the show just didn't want to pay the actors to show up for a cameo, but it just seems odd to me that for as much talk there is about "ohana" on this show, that often times people just disappear or aren't seen without any explanation.  For example, Mrs. Grover.  I get that the actress is killing it as the insane Shepherd on "Blindspot".  But why couldn't they have had a line early in the season about how the daughter has the opportunity to do a year long study abroad in Paris, and Mrs. Grover went with her?  Something like that.

Kamekona was at the party, as was officer Pua and the coroner Noelani. I didn't see Mamo and half-expected to see Dog who seems to enjoy parties but he wasn't there, either. Grace was in the first few episodes this season but haven't seen her for a while. I checked Teilor Grubbs' acting credits, but nothing else shows up. At the same time, she is 15 so maybe she is focused on school or some other activities. Adam's absence seemed the oddest to me, especially after Jerry helped him with the bones a few episodes ago (to where he was fired, but, hey, Jerry was just being helpful). I don't think we've seen Lou's daughter all season long, but Paige Hurd is almost 25 so a little tough to pass for 18, maybe? I find it very irritating as to the long unexplained absences of various recurring characters, especially when it seems that some shows could easily include them if schedules permit. Also, did anyone see Duke at the party? Lastly, when the season premiere beach party is announced, someone, please post! It might be worth the trip as it could very well be the last one.

  12. After the show about the dirty bomb (Season 7 Ep 18), both Ganesh and Icommented about how the uranium that was in that bomb was NOT harmful to humans. It was not depleted uranium, which is the only type of uranium that could cause harm when used in a bomb. Uranium is a better radiation shield than lead, it simply is not going to kill you or cause issues for the type of exposure that Steve had in the episode. Why do the producers and writers think the viewers are so gullible? Why not just change the source of the uranium that was stolen so that it would have been highly radioactive and dangerous?

Aside from that, I thought the finale was a bit flat. Kono picks up a pregnancy test and that event is dropped, was there really no better method of trying to stop the truck (once in the tunnel they should have been able to slow it down, no available cliff at that time. They could have boxed it in and shot out the front tires, sent out paint to cover the windshield)? I'm not an expert but I imagine there are procedures for handling that situation that doesn't involve jumping on top of it but at the same time it was enjoyable stunt work. The guy in the truck with the automatic weapon...you would figure the police are not going to start shooting holes in the container. The guy has started a hole, so you figure that would be the entrance point, so you wait for that to happen and shoot him. Instead, you don't wander the trailer with your back to the hole. Well, you can't take the show literally and enjoy it.

It would have been great to have seen all the semi-regulars at Jerry's party as well, maybe they weren't available. On to re-runs!

I still really dislike the Judd Hirsch character and I find him exhausting.

I guess Willie Garson has morphed into Judd Hirsch due to all of the Superior Donuts promos that we are forced to watch if you don't record/skip the ads. I know that I'm learning a lot about drugs by watching all of the pharmaceutical commercials. I will say that most of the side effects seem worse than the actual condition. But, in the spirit of Blackwing's comment, I do prefer Garson's character when he is being a weasel and not a Lothario. I'm wondering how they might handle the season finale next week in terms of trying to work in all of the recurring or semi-recurring characters? Looking forward to Season 8 already.

I have only seen the episode once when broadcast, but, I believe Danny knew there were 3 perps trailing the ambulance when they made it to the house. He is upstairs, looking through the windows, and sees all 3 perps. None of them look up at him or notice him, and he has a clear shot at all 3 of them as he is either talking to Tanaka or talking on the phone to Steve. Um, any reason he didn't try to take them out at that time? Other than they would have needed to fill about 15 minutes of show at that point?

  15. On a different but related subject, again, no appearance by Kamekona. Without checking, I think this is the longest stretch in 7 seasons where he has been absent. Does anyone know if the actor Taylor Wily is ill, or otherwise occupied? We did see his shrimp truck a couple of episodes ago, and he has an acting credit in Episode 19.

I'm not sure, but I think if you're convicted of a felony (which I believe Adam was) you are automatically disbarred.

Not that many real topics are covered here, we're all fans of the show and want to be entertained to some extent. I did research whether Adam could practice law in Hawaii with a felony conviction (although we don't know the details of that plea bargain), and the answer is yes. In fact, in the state of Hawaii, an employer may not inquire about convictions until a conditional offer of employment is made. Hawaii places arrest and court records in the same class as sex, age, religion, etc. I also found every state can be different regarding this topic.

That said, I've also noticed an absence of Kamekona and Flippa, can't find any news about them as to why they are missing in action as of late?

Also, I am waiting for a Duke-centric episode at some point. He's been credited in 77 episodes. What are they waiting for?

  17. You have to think by now, after 7 years, the good citizens of Honolulu automatically hit the deck or take cover anytime that the 5-0 crew is in the vicinity. Otherwise, there would be more civilian collateral than the bad guys.

Final beef, a 93-year-old man with a granddaughter that looked like she couldn't be more than 20?  Sure, it's possible, but why not cast someone more age-appropriate?  Or make her his great-granddaughter.

The actress who played Amanda Peterson is Lexi Atkins, and she is 25 years old. SO, that is a 67-year span between the character's ages, although they didn't actually give her age in the show. Someone along the way wasn't quite planned out to the last detail. She was also one of the stars of Zombeavers, a movie about, well, zombie beavers. Obviously her career is going downhill already.

I thought Adam was a law school graduate? Why doesn't he hang a shingle, or do some paralegal work? Then he  doesn't have to worry so much about the "no one will hire an ex-con" these days. He could team up with O'Dell. But, I always like his appearances on the show. I also thought it was odd that Kono didn't bother to tell him that Jerry had his badge after X number of years? Maybe she was too busy researching new sandwich recipes.

  18. I'll assume this was an IMDB goof, but...they do not list Michelle Krusiec in the credits for playing Michelle Shioma, but they do list an actress named Adelle Heather Taylor who was playing the part of "Rebecca". Did I blink and miss Rebecca's screen time? I realize it could have been all deleted scenes, although they did give a credit to a stunt person who was standing in for Rebecca so you figure it was a major part in the show. What's going on? Anyway, I never thought Shioma was much of a villain, you wonder if they will introduce a new replacement carryover villain by the season finale May 12? Speaking of the finale, any guesses what's in store?

  19. There was also episode 7 in Season 1 where McGarrett is in the hostage situation on the USS Missouri. The tour guide, played by Robert Loggia, eventually is able to help subdue the ex-SEAL who is holding the tourists hostage (granted, he gets shot but is enough of a distraction for McGarrett to get the drop on the perp). I believe in the dialogue at the end he also mentions that he served with McGarrett's grandfather and may have relayed some information about his role in the bombing, but I would have to re-watch the end of the episode to remember much more about it. So, yes, several references to Steve's grandfather's role at Pearl Harbor have been on the show over the years. Looking forward to this one, they do a nice job of adding some history to the program at times.

  20. Hopefully Danny is going to dump Amber/Melissa. Given the real-life ages of the actors (Scott 40 1/2, Melissa 23 3/4), I just have a very difficult time accepting any romantic connection between them. Maybe I'm the only one? Since her character has never really been developed, it just doesn't seem like a good fit to me. And, could this be the pathway (assuming Claire and Danny get back together) to Danny quitting the force and moving back to Joizee to start that restaurant? Time will tell...
