I mean, I'd rather it be renewed in some way that canceled completely. And I think I do have Peacock? But I'd rather they keep in on NBC, with the other two. I mean, they'd keep the Mariska show mess that is SVU on broadcast, but not this?

This has gotten me to say "I mean" twice in four sentences!

I wonder what would happen if Hargitay was removed as a EP? Would she call it quits or would she like to see old quality like production, where the episodes would not revolve around her each week?

A down to earth millionaire who's easy on the eyes and has a busy job meaning my introverted ass would get many an evening to stay at home reading books, I'd hit that.  My student loans would get paid off, we'd have enough to afford a maid if we continued to live modestly.  I'm not really seeing a downside.  Unless he wants kids.

There will have to be some controversy being a subordinate to Benson.

For a comment that is NOT about St. Olivia the patron saint of special victims I have a quick question if anybody knows the answer. The woman that Bruno was in bed with at the beginning: was that his ex-wife? I remember last season that it was implied he still had feelings for her and they divorced because they never saw each other due to their jobs (I think she was a firefighter?)

Well, he has recently become a multi-millionaire, so maybe a lot of girls think they can find a deep spiritual connection that leads to an idyllic contentment

I can see Hargitay with a Law & Order spin off, "Special Victim Files, where Benson and Benson work together to fight crime. It's her way to force out Ice-T. Since Robert Guillaume past away, she gets all the screen time.

Haven't we seen a scenario like this before, straight out of a Columbo episode and the ending was just is like the last 10 minutes of an Matlock trial.

It was not the surrogate's idea to “sell the baby to another couple for a lot more money”:

    • [DARINA'S LAWYER EXPLAINING WHY DARINA WAS LEAVING THE PORTER'S] Pavlo Golub lied to Darina. He told her the Porters were having second thoughts, that they weren't even sure they wanted to raise the child anymore. He said he found a loving couple, and Darina trusted him.
    • [AFTER THE DETECTIVES FIND AN ACCOUNT OPENED IN DARINA'S NAME WITH $2K, THEY TRACE THE CHECK TO THE OTHER FAMILY] And how much did you pay Pavlo?
    • [OTHER COUPLE] $250,000.

So Evil Broker Pavlo Golub found a couple willing to pay $250,000 and (I guess???) didn't have another surrogate handy. He initially told the detectives he charged $50K for the surrogacy and gave the surrogates $10K, but if the audience carefully hears every line, it becomes obvious that only $2K goes to the surrogate.

I guess I missed or misunderstood a few of the moments from "Family Ties", so I am just glad I threw out there a preemptive apology. So let that be a lesson to all those that watch Law & Order, go to the bathroom before the show starts.

If I were from Ukraine I would be really pissed off with all these stupid series using my people's tragedy for their stupid scripts.
And I will use the word "stupid" again, cause it describes this episode perfectly.
I have no clue about American/New York laws, but most of what happens in the reboot's courts makes no sense, they just want to generate brainless drama.
Actually it seems its  more about style than any kind of substance.
Style, like the annoying lawyer with the buggy eyes, the "villain". Style like having the judges take stupid decisions in favor of the defense just to make DA's work more difficult. Logic is not there. Just idiotic moral dilemmas (lol).
Is it really possible for the defense to ask a 5 years plea when all the evidence is against her client? And on top of that to use an infant as a bargaining chip? Does it make any logic?
And PTSD ? I thought this whole thing was an insult to PTSD victims.

    Stupid. Stupid. Stupid.

I have to agree, but this is only a subjective and personal view on my part, so please don't take this as an insult to the Ukrainian people. The actions of the girl by killing the mother and severely injuring the father, trying  to sell the baby to another couple for a lot more money, claiming she has PTSD,  demanding 5 years instead of the offer of 15 years, and getting her demands if she gives up all rights to the baby. All these things tell me she is dishonest, greedy, conniving, and murderous. Yet she looks like a scared immigrant easily manipulated. A lot of mixed messages  and I hope I didn't offend anyone.

I’m struggling to articulate something that’s been bugging me since the reboot started. Even though I know logically the episodes are the same length they always were, they seem so much shorter. It’s like nothing really happens but it takes up the whole episode. In old L&O there would have been an investigation, some comedy business with Lenny, an interrogation scene, new information to change the investigation, an arrest, a scene with Skoda, a legal debate in Adam’s office, a tense cross examination, Jack having a temper tantrum about something, more investigation, a surprise twist at the end of the case, and then a little stinger in the elevator to wrap everything up. Now it just seems like there’s no twist, no development, nothing actually happening. What are they doing to fill the time? Just me?

No, it's not you. It seem like there are maybe less scenes that are shot on  locations with less extras. I didn't use a stop-watch or anything, but it seems like there is more time set aside for commercials, than what they had started with back in 1999.

Exactly what I was thinking - Maroun is starting to remind me of Serena some - she’s kind of disagreeable and a bit too empathetic with defendants sometimes. She hasn’t annoyed me as much as Serena did, but she doesn’t add a lot to the show either.

Isn't this how Serena was written out? She started to disagree, almost argue with her superiors, literally and philosophically, just like what Maroun is doing now.  Will she be gone at the end of the season?

Yes it's an exception, I think the legal issue here (which isn't seen in the show, outside of a comment "I found this [the hammer] in the trash]") is that it's not in plain view.. HOWEVER, the defended didn't have any reason to believe she had privacy there in a trash can owned by the two residents in the house. They should've argued that the defendant didn't live there anymore or something.. it's irritating to me for numerous reasons and it should've been explain a hell of a lot better in-show

Do you watch Law & Order SVU also? Because IMO, the writers from both shows have become a little sloppy. It seems like the executive producers give the writers a story line and the writes use weak excuses to validate the story line.

When we heard the defense's motion I remembered the first episode of The Closer when their new Chief made those experienced homicide detectives stop and get a search warrant before processing the crime scene.

I always heard the police don't need a search warrant for a crime scene, it doesn't violate the 4th amendment.

And we really need a psych expert - I sorely miss Skoda/Olivet - there have been several revival episodes where an expert could’ve been used to consult with the police/DAs and I miss that.

I thought that one shrink that testified that the mother had PTSD was a defense shrink, where was the prosecution's shrink? Apparently Dick Wolf doesn't want to chip in for another shrink character.

Question: what happened to the scammy lawyer?  I missed that when not watching every minute.

I can understand the girl suffering from PTSD and committing the crime and pleading mentally unstable, but Baxter wanted a conviction at first then would settle for 15 years for murder for some reason. Instead, they should have gone after that crooked lawyer, it would have been more entertaining.

    • Did the judge agree with the defense here a lot? From excluding the bloody hammer to the change of plea w/o notification?
    • Did it seem like the husband was more interested in getting the baby, then getting justice for his murdered wife?
    • As traumatized as the mother said she is with (PTSD), you'd think she would definitely want take the 15 years than go back to Ukraine. Is she more conniving than we think, because she wants only 5 years?

What is the over/under for life expectancy of anyone closely associated with a politician taking the subway from or to Hudson University in the current run of Law & Order? 2 minutes? 3?

Since betting is legal now, you will probably get a lot of action on that outcome.

I will be surprised if they don't put a little extra in for a followup episode where Noah wants to meet his grandmother (Brook Shields).

So as if Mariska’s ego wasn’t big enough, the NY MTA just entered a licensing deal with Wolf to sell an SVU metrocard.

Hargitay is going to want a major cut of the card, and the card will be as reliable as the quality of each episode, which will be hit and miss most of the time.

Moving this over from the episode thread as it's really more general discussion -

Yes they do have market research. There is a certain percentage of the viewers that have stuck around to see how Benson's story turns out. I know it has been mentioned in past articles. We also know that it is out there because NBC execs have previously said publicly that they were waiting to sign a contract before renewing the series. And because Dick Wolf does not let any actor get so much money and become bigger than the show without some hard evidence that it is needed.

As far as the extent of her power and influence it does have limits. NBC is only willing to spend so much on the show, even if it is the number 1 scripted drama on NBC and Peacock (yes, yes tallest m***** etc.) and they did realize after Season 18 that they needed to provide a variety of plots even if Mariska had a certain focus on particular types of sexual abuse and power dynamics that she wanted to portray almost exclusively. The biggest limit on her creative influence is the showrunner. Chernuchin and especially Leight have strong track records and influence on their own and pushed back a bit. Without that we find that it's all Benson all the time. As far as budget is concerned - budgets are not really her concern and don't seem to interest her except in being the highest paid actress on network television. Which is one of the few real limits to her influence - budgets get tighter and her salary keeps rising which meant for example KG had to go even if Mariska wanted her to stay.  Dick Wolf is not going to spend his own money to keep Mariska happy. Which is one reason that no matter what we will not see a significant decrease in her screen time. She simply gets paid too much to sit on the bench (insert Mets joke here) and they don't really have any alternative unless Meloni ends up free...

    Very good analysis!!

That was such a great episode. Finn and Munch really found the groove of their character's interaction while they were searching for the killer.

Finn- Aunt Mary believes he's innocent.

Munch, Yeah, well, Aunt Mary is a few teabags shy of a full pot!

Always like their banter. Munch with his conspiracy theories and Fin with his cynical responses, especially with his facial expressions

I've noticed there are multiple channels showing Perry on any given day.  I haven't found one episode I haven't seen before. There are some shows I can watch more than once. As much as I like Perry, he isn't one of them.

I like Perry, but I don't watch it all the time, I just like watching the episodes I like to watch. Especially the ones where you see the side of these special characters as in the "Weary Watchdog". It's not the case itself, but at the beginning when Della asks Perry how far would he go for a friend. Watch Della's reaction the next time it comes on.

  20. Perry Mason apparently is becoming real popular, especially with my cable service and three networks that will carry this show. We all know that MeTV carries it twice, once in the morning and once at night, and the JUSTICE channel shows 4 consecutive episodes than repeats them late night. Now the GFAM channel will carry Perry Mason starting April 1st at around 2 pm

When Stabler was still in, we had a show that ended up revolving around the 2 stars but not in a good way, all stories were suffering just to "accommodate" them.

I seem to remember that also, but there was that one episode that was like inserted between them where Fin and Munch worked a case that took them up to Canada and they had to deal with the "No capital punishment" there. Anyway it was nice having a Benson & Stabler episode one week and then a Munch & Fin episode the next. Too bad they  don't do something like that now.

As someone who had some agoraphobia issues early in the pandemic--no, it's not that simple. It was only a few months, and I had trouble just opening my door and standing on my porch. It took steps, from my therapist (virtual at the time) to get me to open the door one day. Then do that a few times. Then step onto the porch. Then go to my car and sit in it, without going anywhere.

Glad you are doing OK now!
