Now the scene in the first episode had some meaning. Jon commented to Arya that he hadn’t heard her and this was in broad daylight with a quiet atmosphere. It makes total sense to me that she would use that stealth to sneak up on the NK with night cover and a battle raging about.

The library scene with the wights was also a set-up to this.  Not only did it give the audience a few minutes of quiet from the constant battle noise, but it reminded us that Arya can move quickly and quietly, without being detected.  I think she has always had a natural ability to do so, like you say, but I think Syrio and Jaquen's training made her even better, so, props to those guys.

  2. Well, Arya had her Eowyn moment.  I can't decide if I like it, or if it was fan-service.  I think I'm learning towards the latter.  No matter how basic it would have been, I still think Jon should have been the one to kill the Night King.

  3. Since Christina has been mentioned in other threads, I thought she deserved her own topic.  She isn't the force she once was, but she always seems to generate discussion in one way or another, so why not?

Personally, I have mixed feelings about her.  I can't deny that she has a voice, even if she does overdo it at times, but something about the overall package is lacking.  I was in high school when she broke out with her debut album, and I owned it, but I remember skipping through most of the tracks because they felt very adult contemporary and boring, to me.  By the time Stripped was released, I had kind of forgotten about Christina, but I loved Fighter, and I still think it's one of her best songs.  I have to admit, I don't have the love for that album that some people do; I do like Impossible and Soar, but I go back and forth on Beautiful.  Sometimes I like it, sometimes I don't.  I have to be in the right mood for it, I guess.

I was a big fan of Back to Basics, because I thought it was a lot of fun, and Christina wasn't really known for fun.  Britney, sure, but Christina was always more serious.  A lot of those tracks still hold up, IMO, but I am an Old.  I bet if I played Candyman for a twelve year old, they would probably think it was weird.  This is the best Christina has ever looked, especially right after the, "I just fell out of a dumpster" thing she was going for on Stripped.  Man, that was bad.

Bionic...well, the less said about Bionic, the better.  I will say that Not Myself Tonight has grown on me a little, but most of this album is just badVanity and Sex for Breakfast are probably the worst offenders as far as lyrics go, but Woohoo and Elastic Love are close behind (a rubber band was an analogy/you can even say it's a metaphor).  I don't know what was going through Christina's head with this album, but I'm pretty sure she wanted to be Lady Gaga, and it just didn't work.

Lotus is pretty meh, but I do like the Martin Garrix remix of Your Body, and Circles is a guilty pleasure.  Red Hot Kinda Love is pretty cute.  That's all I got for Lotus.

Liberation is a mess.  Honestly, I'm still kind of processing this one, even though it came out a year ago.  I like a few songs, but the album as a whole doesn't make a lot of sense, to me.  I get the feeling that Christina just wanted to release something because it had been six years since her last release, so she cobbled Liberation together and didn't give it much thought.  Accelerate sounds terrible, and Fall In Line is a throwback from 2001, as far as feminist themes go.  I just couldn't get into it.

Thoughts on this?  I have written way too much about a pop star without having coffee.   Also, if anyone can come up with a catchier thread title, let me know. 🙂

Not impressed at all by this song, it's completely forgettable IMO. Same thing with Madonna's new song. Lots of hype, barely any substance.

Yeah, I listened to Medellín the other day, but I didn't even finish it.  It wasn't bad, but it wasn't good, either.

I didn't finish ME!, either, lol.  I got about halfway through when I realized this is a song for little girls.  That's fine, but pretty boring for middle aged me.  Thank u, next.

I think sometimes people forget that Beyonce is of the generation of the Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, N'Sync, Backstreet Boys, etc. and when you consider what her trajectory has been compared to all of these people, it's amazing.

Funny you mention this, because Beyonce basically has the same level of career I assumed Christina Aguilera would have, back when she broke out in 1999.  Out of all the female pop stars who started around the same time, I never would have picked Beyonce to have the most successful adult career.  That's not because she wasn't talented, but because the Destiny's Child Beyonce we knew back then seemed fine, but not particularly artistic or interesting, and certainly not in control of her own career, the way she is, now.  It's been an interesting transformation to watch, that's for sure.

  6. Something I thought was interesting: at one point, Jaime tells Tyrion that he was sleeping with his sister in a tone that made it sound like he realized how messed up it was.  Has he ever done that, before?  I don't recall Jaime ever having that attitude about sleeping with Cersei, he was always unapologetic about it.  I thought it was a nice little moment of character development, but maybe this sort of thing has come up before, and I'm just not remembering.

This is what happens when you are coddled and given fake celeb status.  You can’t handle anything remotely critical, because you’ve never had to try for much of anything and most likely haven’t faced the word NO very often.  Sure they had shitty upbringings, but since they hit the TM lotto they have done nothing to grow and mature and better themselves.

I have always said that every TM cast member is permanently stuck at age sixteen, and playing "adult".

The way they spend their money speaks volumes: big houses, or acres of land that probably cost a lot of money to maintain, plastic surgery, fancy cars that are nicer than anything they actually need, vacations, and...farm animals?  I guess?  IDK, they all want pigs and chickens so they can play pretend, and live in a fantasy world.  It's a kid's idea of a happy, peaceful life, even though real farms take more work than any of these people are willing to put in.  All they're thinking is how much fun it would be to have cute pigs, and ponies.

Cate's makeup and hair extensions and all that is just a part of that.  That look is something that a teenager would think is classy and adult.  Maybe Cate thinks if she shellacs enough makeup on her face, she can look the part of hot, suburban Midwestern mom, and if she looks the part, that's what she will be.  Or something.  IDK, it's been a long day, and I'm tired, but I stand by what I'm saying.  They're all a bunch of kids acting like grown-ups, or how they think grown-ups act.  Because they got stuck at the age they became famous, and they haven't progressed.

Or she got beat up again? First the “emergency” sinus surgery now whatever this is. She’s in the hospital an awful lot.

Either UBT smacks her around, or she is trying to get pills.  Or both.

Anyone else feel that Drogon was feeling territorial and overprotective of Dany in the waterfall scene?

Yeah, I don't think he likes Mom's new boyfriend, very much.

  10. The Stand, by Stephen King.  I've heard rumors about a movie or movies, but I think it would make a much better series.  The first season could be about introducing the characters and the flu spreading and killing everyone, the second season could focus on the survivors finding each other and trying to recreate a society, and the third season could be the one where they really start focusing on the big bad in the desert (though he would be a part of the series long before this, of course).  I know there was a miniseries in the 90's, but I would like to see a reboot.  Some of the casting in the miniseries was...not so good.

  11. Apologies if this has already been brought up, but how did Dany's dragons fly all the way across the Narrow Sea without resting on anything?  Are the ships big enough for them to drop down on if they feel like taking a nap?  I know this is a stupid question, but I would like an answer.

  12. I'll fanwank that all the women and children Stannis left behind at Dragonstone cleared out once they heard Danaerys and her dragons were coming.  Being Baratheon peeps, they probably figured the Dragon Queen wasn't going to show them any mercy when she landed.  Works for me.

I feel the same way about Arya murdering the Freys as I did Dany murdering the Dothraki from last season.  They deserved it.  Fuck 'em.

  13. I'm not even a big country fan, but You Were Mine by The Dixie Chicks makes me teary-eyed, every time.  So much pain in that song, sung so beautifully.

Now that they're both gone, Sometimes It Snows In April by Prince and She's Out of My Life by Michael Jackson are even sadder than they were before.  And they were pretty damn sad, to start with.  Especially when Prince's voice breaks just a *little* after hoping Tracy has "found a new friend" in the former.  OOF.

  14. Add me to the the list of those who prefer Prince over MJ.  I like MJ a lot, but Prince was more of an artist, IMO.  Also, I think his stuff holds up a little better than MJ's stuff.  That's not to say that people still don't love a lot of MJ's songs, but Purple Rain isn't as dated as Thriller is.  I will even go so far as to say the filler songs on Thriller suck balls.  "The Girl Is Mine"?  Da fuq is that?
