  1. Arya rode to King's Landing on a black horse, and rode away from King's Landing on a white horse.

The way I interpreted it is, Arya came to KL living a life that was all about death, and left KL with hope for an actual life, that wasn't all about death/killing.  The symbolism of a knight on a white horse coming to save her was there, only Arya acted as her own knight, and saved herself.

Maybe that's dumb, but that's how I saw it.

I mean really all that petition is ever going to do is humiliate D&D. Maybe Star Wars will drop their trilogy like they dropped Colin Trevorrow. And maybe it will inspire GRRM to actually finish the books to fix the final story arc (although, I also fear that the poor response will kill any chance of the books being finished.)

I doubt D&D will be humiliated.  We can bitch all we want, but they're laughing all the way to the bank.

I hope you're wrong about the books, because I want this ending to be handled by GRRM.  I don't hate everything that's happening, I just hate the way it's been written.  We've gone from point A to Z with a lot of things, and it just doesn't feel satisfying.

To me, the hero edit was absolutely was there, of course. It reflected how Dany was experiencing the story and how we were often experiencing it with her, even if many people did have genuine reservations the whole time wondering if you'd really want this person ruling the world.

The question wasn't that it wasn't there, it was about down the road, who were her antagonists? Sure there were plenty of bad characters, but none that would realistically fare much better than the slavers she burnt to a crisp. She was sacking entire cities with her army and then she had dragons so powerful she had to lock up her power to keep subjects from being eaten. More importantly, there was no situation in Westeros where she'd arrive to find such a clear problem to be solved in such a clear way with a show of force.

The only believable antagonist for this hero was the hero herself. Or the hero's power. She would have to stop herself from pursuing more and more--or be stopped. Because while there were plenty of bad people in the books, this was simply not a story about the slaves finally getting somebody on their side. They were just there to help Dany work out her own relationship to power as a ruler. If the story was about Dany triumphing by winning the iron throne it would just be boring--she'd just power through everybody and be on the throne and then have to deal with the kind of messes she had in the books.

No problem in Westeros would be solved by putting a far more powerful ruler on the IT just because Cersei is terrible. That's the story in Dany's mind where she imagines there's a great wrong in Westeros that will be righted by her being on the throne, either because it was stolen from her or because she is the most just. But we know that's not true. These people have no particular problem they want her to solve at all, besides just backing her as queen instead of somebody else. So she had to change from hero to something more complicated in Westros. There was no greatest bad guy she was working her way up towards. It was the power that was getting bigger.

I love reading your posts, Sistermagpie.  They are so thoughtful and intriguing.  I feel like I am getting more out of your analysis of season 8 than what D&D are giving me, lol.

More spoiler from freefolk, from a person who correctly spoiled ep 5. I hate it. And unless there some parts missing it doesn't look seem like an hour worth of an episode. So really Drogon really just flys away with Danys body and that's it. So stupid.

    May 16th Updates

Jon, Davos and Tyrion are walking through the aftermath of Kings Landing. Tyrion walks through what's left of the castle and sees Jaime's hand so he starts to uncover the rubble and he confirms both Cersei and Jaime are dead. They find Grey Worm and his men they have Lannister Soldiers trapped and they're about to kill them. Jon trys to tells Grey Worm to stop. Grey Worm tells Jon that its the queens orders. Then they cut to Dany giving a speech pretty much saying how she freed the people from Kings Landing and the new goal is freeing the rest of the world. Dany turns to Tyrion and tells him he committed treason. Tyrion tells her that she killed thousands of innocent people and he takes off the hands pin and throws it. Dany sends him to prison.

Jon goes to see her and she sitting on the Iron throne alone and John tells her that she needs to stop being a crazy bitch and that Grey Worm killed the Lannisters army from the previous scene. Dany tells Jon that she's doing it for the people. Jon pretends to understand and tricks her. When her guard is down he stabs her. Drogon comes and is standing over her body and he burns or melts the Iron throne and carries her away.

Grey Worm has Tyrion and Jon as his prisoners. The *council is (led by Sansa) tells Grey Worm to release Jon back to them but he refuses. That's when Tyrion says that the new King or Queen should decide what happens to Jon. Sam suggest for a democratic vote for the new king. Tyrion calls that idea stupid. The council votes and decide Bran Should be the King. Bran picks Tyrion as his hand.

Tyrion tells Jon that his punishment is going back to the wall and join the Knights Watch. Grey Worm accepts Jons punishment. He doesn't bend the knee leaves with his troops and Dothraki on ships to go free Slave cities. They show Tyrion leading the council. Jon says goodbye to Sansa and Arya. Arya tells them she isn't going back home. She's going to explore whatever is west of Westeros because that's where no one has been.

The final scene is a Closing montage. You see Arya on a ship, Sansa ruling Winterfell and Jon doesnt stay at the wall he reunites with Tormund and Ghost.

*Council Members: Samwell Tarly the Grand Maester, Davos Seaworth Master of ships, Bronn Master of Coin and High Garden, Brienne (not sure) Lord Commander of the Kingsguard, Yara Greyjoy Lord of Iron Islands, Robin Arryn Lord of Kingdom of the Mountain and the Vale, Gendry Baratheon Lord of Storm's End, Yohn Royce Lord of Runestone, Hound doesn't get mentioned., Podrick is wheeling around Bran and he protects him.

Ellaria Sand doesn't get mentioned (i asked because she's alive). Sam mentions that they seen Drogon in some location but aren't sure. Bran just says, "ill look for him" They don't have a Master of Laws and Whisperers. Tyrion is looking for the right people to fill those spots. They don't clarify what Bran did when he was in warg during The Long Night. Did i forget to mention the most important detail about this entire episode? our good boy gets a pat from Jon.

LOL...oh my god, that sounds so bad.  I'm getting so much entertainment from the way this show has crashed and burned.  It's sad, but it's also funny how the showrunners do not give a fuck.  They just slapped an ending together, and told the audience to go fuck themselves.  I love it. 😛

    Okay, so, questions/observations/whatever...

    1. Is Dany killed in the first ten minutes of the episode?  It sure seems like it.  Jon stabs her right at the start, and the rest of the episode is full of boring, bureaucratic bullshit.  Way to go out with a bang, show.

    2. Bran is just as dumb as the other characters, choosing Tyrion as his Hand.  Is there no one else in Westeros who is smart and capable enough for the position?

    3. I'm glad Sansa has a happy ending, and gets to rule as Queen of the North.  Yeah, I said it.

    4. How the HELL is Ellaria still alive?!  That has got to be a mistake.  No way Cersei would not have made sure Ellaria was really most sincerely dead.  Gotta be BS.

    5. Is Edmure still alive?  If so, wouldn't he be Lord of Riverrun?  I am so confused, by that.  Funny how Sweet Robin doesn't do anything and isn't affected by all the shit that has happened.  Nope, he's still sitting pretty, in the Vale.  Lucky little asshole.

I know some of you are not interested in watching on Sunday, but I will be there with a tub of popcorn.  If this is true, it has to be seen to be believed.  This ending is even worse than Boardwalk Empire.

Ok so I can't delete this inappropriate smiling emoji for some reason, so please forgive me if it seems like I'm smiling at a potential murder suicide.

I don't think Jennelle deserves to be violently murdered! She's made terrible decisions at great cost to innocents, but wishing her to be terrorized and shot dead seems a little...much. David I'd like to see in jail forever and I wish it wouldn't take the crime we all know he will commit eventually to put him there.

I think he likes to kill, and that more than the prepper bullshit is why he has a farm. I think he likes to slaughter the animals and build himself up by saying he's a provider or some shit. But he just likes to watch living things die. I guess this is where I say JMHO, but it sure feels like stating a fact.

I agree with you.  I don't like Jenelle at all, but I am disturbed by the idea that she deserves to die.  It makes me deeply uncomfortable.

    *cue Kelly Clarkson's Addicted*.

Jaime's story was never an arc - I think it was a circle. (well no it is a circle).
We know that this twisted sick love affair started basically. from the age of 12-13? with them. I can't remember exactly and they are like what 40+? now that's basically a life time being in love with someone, not to mention a twin bond. And he tried. but he didn't want to have his twin  - and the woman he also loved (as I feel he loved Brienne too) die like that - and die alone. and I also feel it was the twin-sibling bit - not just the incest bit that made him go back. Just like Tyrion will always try to help/save Cersei even though she hates him. and even though every chance Cersei had to kill Tyrion she couldn't do it.

    very tragic indeed.

Yup.  I don't think Jaime could ever live without Cersei, even without the incestuous relationship.  The bond between twins can run deep.

Random thought on this subject: I think there is an extra bit of tragedy in Cersei and Jaime dying by trying to do what Ned advised Cersei to do way back in season one: take Jaime, take the kids, sail to Pentos, and never come back.  How many lives would have been saved if they had just done that?

Well, they made their choice, and they lived- and died- by it.

  7. Well, now that I've let this episode marinate for a good twelve hours, I'll comment on it...

I can't say I liked everything about the way this episode was executed, but I don't know what people were expecting Dany's end game to be like.  She was never going to rule peacefully over Westeros, she has always been entitled and ruthless, and she has dragons.  You can't be loved when you have giant, winged, nuclear weapons flying over your subjects' heads, that's keeping your people in line with fear, in its purest form.  I knew at some point that those dragons were going to wreak havoc.  She used them when she lost everything else and (in her mind) ran out of options.  Not surprising, and Emilia Clarke's acting was great.  Her conversation with Jon, when she says "Let it be fear" is going down as one of the most chilling moments of the series.  There is nothing going on in Dany's eyes but pure resignation and hate.  I loved it.

I didn't see Jaime and Cersei's deaths as romantic, at all.  Sure, they got to die in each others' arms, but at what price?  Their children were dead, and they pushed everyone else away, or killed them.  Not exactly a happy ending.  I also loved Cersei going out like a coward, whimpering about how she didn't want to die.  This is the same woman who talked a big game about how she should have been a soldier instead of a lady, but she couldn't handle it when the shit hit the fan.  Typical.  LH's acting was amazing, though.  She really brought Cersei to life, and I don't think anyone else could have sold the role the way she did.  Good job, LH.

Jaime going back to Cersei is...whatever.  I thought it was totally in character, because Jaime has always been addicted to Cersei's love, and they never had a healthy relationship.  I also saw it as Jaime punishing himself for all his sins, which is exactly what he told Brienne, last episode.  I wasn't surprised by it, but I will miss looking at NCW, because he is pretty.  I am shallow.

I was never invested in Cleganebowl, but I did like the Hound telling Arya that living off vengence is not the answer.  Hopefully, Arya will regain her humanity and make a life for herself instead of moving through Westeros, killing people.  I have never thought that was badass or cool, it was sad.  Arya was once a spirited little girl who had a future ahead of her, and she grew up to be a soulless killing machine.  I'm glad the Hound told her that living the way he did was no life, at all.  She needed to hear it.

All in all, it was an okay episode.  I'll join the kids' table with my unpopular opinion.

Logically though, that would mean GRRM wrote thousands of pages (and counting) just to have Westeros revert to Targs in charge, with their very dangerous dragons, and with madness still on the table.

It's beyond my comprehension that he would do that.

    True.  I guess I'm just a romantic. 😛

I just wanted to mention that I think the casting was so incredible perfect when they chose Emilia Clarke as Dany.  She looked, and acted, exactly as I pictured this character, other than not having purple eyes that is.

I've loved her portrayal of this iconic figure, and have, since the beginning.  I also like that I immediately "bought" her as Dany.

I agree.  I remember seeing the first actress they thought about casting as Dany, and I'm so glad they didn't go with their first choice.  I'm sure the actress was fine (can't remember her name), but she had that bland, nondescript look to her, where Emilia was much more expressive.  They nailed it.

Sansa is smart enough to know she has to marry and have children some day, it is the best way to keep the Starks ruling.

Sansa should marry Gendry.  True, Gendry has a thing for Arya, but with the goal being to have children and continue the family line, Gendry would not be the worst choice.  He's hardworking, kind, brave, and strong.  Highborn Sansa can teach him all about being a lord, while Arya does her own thing, and travels the world.  Gendry wouldn't be wild about it, but I think he would warm to it, over time.  And, we would come full circle with Bobby B's son marrying Ned Stark's daughter, just like he wanted.

However, their children would be Baratheons, not Starks, so they would probably be raised at Storm's End, not Winterfell.  Still, I like this little ship I just thought of, and I'm going to wrap it around myself like a cozy blanket as protection from all the crazy shit that is bound to go down in tonight's episode.  **pulls blankie tight and sips coco**

    Quote

I realize GRRM loves to subvert fantasy/folklore tropes (see Quentyn Martell's hero's journey ending with his fiery death), but at some point, the tropes need to be adhered to, or the story doesn't have a satisfying outcome.

Exactly.  Tropes become tropes because they work.  I don't care if the most predictable thing in the world happens, as long as it is executed well, and is emotionally satisfying.  When people subvert expectations just to subvert expectations, it takes me right out of the story.

My mind is blown at the idea of Jenelle giving marital advice. A week before her "perfect" husband killed her dog and a week and a half before she got over that and returned to living with him and trying to pass their marriage/life off as healthy and "normal." The delusion is staggering.

I seriously wonder what goes through her mind. Does she think, "Well, yeah, UBT beats me, my son, and my dogs and he viciously murdered Nugget, but really he's a good guy who's just misunderstood. I need to lie to protect him and someday he'll stop beating us (or at least me)."? Does she think that she and UBT's other victims deserve his abuse because they did something to set him off and they need to learn to do better? Does she ever think seriously about her life, her marriage, how she's raising her kids, etc? I honestly don't get it.

And I'm fairly familiar with the dynamics of domestic violence, so I get that DV victims' actions don't necessarily "make sense." But I still don't get what Jenelle's thought process is. She's not financially dependent on UBT; it's actually the other way around. He's not her first love or first serious relationship or someone she's been with for a long time. He's not someone who comes off to the outside world as a great husband and father, making her feel ashamed to admit that he's not as perfect as everyone thinks.

When she hooked up with UBT, Jenelle was willing and able to provide her next soul mate/baby daddy with 6 to 7 figures in property, cash, earning ability, trips, etc. Ideally, she wanted someone who would do most of the childcare and other adulting so she could focus on staying medicated and avoiding the stresses of real life. UBT jumped all over that, but ran the opportunity into the ground in record time. Even a semi-"normal" guy could have faked it for the cameras for a few weeks a few times a year- playing with the kids, tending to the chickens, doing talking heads about how concerned he was about Nathan's parenting (without being violent, offensive, and antagonistic at MTV events and online). Jenelle and her partner had the ability to make a mid-6-figures income just doing that, but they blew it.

UBT is older and more experienced with "real life" (i.e., not making 6 figures for "working" on a reality show), so he should have realized how good he/they had it, but he's so stupid/crazy that he didn't. I think he honestly can't stop himself from behaving like a lunatic, even when he should realize that it's going to cost him dearly. The level of "good behavior" required by MTV was almost certainly lower than any other job he ever had, but he couldn't manage to do something as simple a go on a free trip to LA and not act violent and threatening at a party thrown by his and his wife's employer. Let him try that shit at the holiday party for employees at Costco or a diving company or wherever else he might be able to get a job. It's just crazy to me. The most fucked up people I know would mind ALL of their P's and Q's if they had the opportunity to make that kind of money essentially doing nothing.

Disregarding the DV angle, Jenelle is mentally ill, and addicted to the drama David gives her.  I had a mother like that; she would bring a bunch of losers home and do drugs with them, and couldn't go a single day without fighting someone.   When she wasn't fighting with losers and doing drugs, she was a flatline of a human, completely checked out, no interest in anything beyond when/how she was going to get that next high.  Sound familiar?

I'm not talking to you, specifically, I just feel like I understand why Jenelle does what she does because of my mother.  It makes a weird sort of sense to me, because I lived it.  I was Jace, Maryssa, Nathan, and Ensley.  The only difference is, I had a loving extended family who realized the situation I was in, and never gave up on me.  I also had a stepfather for a while who did all the heavy lifting when it comes to parenting, and taught me a lot of valuable things before he finally left my mother.  I have a lot of sympathy for these kids, because I don't know if they have a way out of their shitty home life.  At least Jace and Nathan have other family members.  Not sure about the others.

Sorry, I feel like I just barfed up my childhood and exposed myself, but I felt like maybe I could shed a little light on Jenelle, and how she "works".  IDK.  I could be all wrong, but I don't think I am.  Jenelle has so much in common with my mother, it's not even funny.

Honestly, the writing for the Stark girls this season and last comes off as so manufactured, I’m over them. That coupled with Jon being impotent in every scene this season, toss in useless Bran—the Starks are shits.

Remember when Cersei said, "Everyone who isn't us is an enemy"?

I couldn't help but think of that when Arya told Jon that Daenerys wasn't one of them.

The fact that it came  from Arya, a character who has traveled the world, met many different kinds of people, and was trained by two foreign dudes, was very confusing, to me.  Just...what?

I'm sticking it out to the very end, but I don't understand what's happening to the characters.  Hopefully, the end will at least be batshit crazy, and entertaining.

I feel for Jenelle, honestly, when I read that tweet about Nugget. It's odd that she's never shown such affection for a human. Maybe she's one of those people who loves animals but not people, since people can talk back. It just stuns me, though, that she would stay with him. If someone ever hurt one of my birds, I would be too sickened to even consider staying! Jenelle's has a while to think about it, and has decided not to leave. Whaaaat?! It makes no sense whatsoever.

I think it makes perfect sense that Jenelle isn't leaving David.  It takes a while for victims to leave their abusers, especially if their abuser kills a pet to send a message, which is what I think happened, here.  Jenelle is a piece of shit, but she is also terrified.  She knows it would only take a second for David to hurt her, or shoot her, so she's staying put.  By killing Nugget, David made sure she would stay, for a good long while.

It makes me want to vomit.

Oh, for shit's sake...can't we have a woman in a position of power who isn't Sansa make it to the end?

I say this as a Sansa fan, BTW.  I like her as a character quite a bit, but she is poised to be the only powerful female character left standing at the end, and I have a problem with that.
