Izzy was born via emergency c-section in the hospital, but as far as we know had no complications from that (NICU, etc). He and Jill were home within an appropriate amount of time.
Samuel was born via c-section after trying a VBAC at home. It’s assumed it was an emergency C-section, but we don’t know if the hospital let Jill labor first. Samuel spent two weeks in the NICU.

The only way this is “true” is if in the contract TLC already had written one or two specials a year at the current rate, no matter the content. I can’t really see Jim Bob signing such a bad contract for the family, but maybe it was leftover from the days of VSE shows instead of the episodic format. I still can’t imagine the People covers weren’t paid for, but maybe that tied into the TLC contract as well (you will do X amount of advertising for free of our choosing is a common clause).
If it truly was a situation where Jim Bob controlled the money, the adults just signed filming releases, and Jill and Derick truly didn’t get any extra money because of semantics... okay I can kind of understand asking TLC for help. But it also equally blows my mind that Jim Bob would be working under such a bad contract after so many seasons on the show.
AND we know that Ben and Jessa renegotiated some kind of new contract shortly after they were married from when they visited the TLC headquarters. Jill and Derick should have had the same opportunity. In addition, we know that when Counting On was supposed to focus on Jill and Jessa. There’s no way new contracts weren’t signed (possibly still paying Duggar LLCs) at that time.
Also I believe Derick is stretching the truth just a little (surprise, surprise). The medical bills and show he is referring to is from Izzy’s birth. Samuel was in the NICU. It hasn’t been a year since Samuel’s birth.

Part of me wants to goad Derick on Twitter and tell him he should demand his compensation from People for the pictures.
My full-term baby spent 9 days in the NICU because she has epilepsy. She had her first seizure a few hours after birth while being held by my father. Because she was a newborn, the seizures caused her to stop breathing. After 4 days, the seizures were controlled with medicine. We had to be a full 5 days seizure/apnea free before we could leave the NICU. We went home on an apnea monitor and she spent the first 5 months of her life hooked up to the portable apnea monitor 24/7.
I had full prenatal care from one of the best OB’s in my city. It was my second pregnancy. There was absolutely no indication that she would end up in the NICU before birth. There was absolutely no indication that anything was wrong when she was actually born.
So while Jill could have messed around with the birth long enough to cause problems, there is also an equal chance that she did absolutely nothing wrong and it just happened.

Since it's not letting me quote and type in the same box...
Only certain premature babies qualify for government assistance in the NICU. Full-term babies generally don't unless there are certain diagnoses. Two weeks in the NICU is not going to push lifetime max limits. That's reserved for babies who spend months in the NICU, like micro-preemies. Josie would have likely qualified for the assistance.
Likely Derick and Jill have some kind of insurance through some of the Christian health cost-sharing programs.

The better question is, “Was the Duggar Family LLC compensated by People/TLC for the pictures?” I suspect this is Derick’s roundabout way of saying the individual families don’t get paid directly. Plus we know they had the Pool Mansion at that point in the marriage. It’s very possible Boob traded pictures for living arrangements.

If your child is in the NICU, insurance will still pay for 3 meals a day as part of the room cost.

It largely depends what post office they get their mail from. We get our mail from City A, so that is our city of record. However, we actually live in City B. Our neighborhood was annexed back in the 90’s and our new city did not want to take over our mail services.

Remember, they showed the pilot for this at least a year ago. Maybe closer to 18 months. I wouldn’t be surprised if this has been in the can for awhile and shot before the quitting “Fixer Upper” announcement.

Even if they did have to provide a doctor’s name (which I didn’t have to for my two hospital births if I chose to use the hospital pediatrician while we were admitted) they could give Dr. Fedosky’s name. The hospital isn’t going to call and verify the appointment.

Jinger and Jeremy had a down payment close to $100,000 (I would guess $50k-$75k based on the neighborhood). They only mortgaged about $80,000 of their house.
Knowing that Jinger, Jana, and Jessa have all “purchased” property around that figure, it stands to reason that was some kind of lump sum dowry at least for the older girls. Book money/exclusive wedding picture money/show money growing up? I’m not sure that kind of cash will be there for the younger kids or if they have immediate access to it.
We also haven’t seen if the boys get any money.

I bet it’s something fairly innocent like TLC is planning on featuring the renovation as Joy and Austin’s storyline this season and didn’t want it “spoiled” by the Instagram video. Austin seems like a creep, but outside of privacy concerns that the Duggars have never really cared about, there aren’t really any other reasons to pull the video.
Joy looks like she’s bounded in by some heavy duty maternity pants. Earlier in the pregnancy she didn’t seem like she was wearing anything that restricted the belly. Now she is. She’s also got the look like the baby is sitting more up and down vs back towards the spine. Hopefully it’s all fluid and she’s not popping out a 10 pound baby at home.

There are out of state tuition waivers for OSU that don’t seem to be difficult to obtain. Being a legacy student seems to qualify you as long as you have a decent HS GPA or SAT score.
Plus I could see Cathy and Derick applying for all the obscure scholarships out there, especially before his freshman year. His father was a cop and I know there are specific, well-funded scholarships for children of law enforcement.
Even though his father didn’t die on duty, I believe he was an active cop at the time. That would likely unlock even more scholarships for Derick, plus he would have access to any vested pensions, retirement money, life insurance, etc. I have no doubt his father dying young enabled Derick and Dan to finish college debt-free.

Jo has said it depends on the homeowner whether they do the extra rooms. Sometimes it’s just paint and flooring to match the rest of the house, sometimes Magnolia is contracted to come out later to renovate those rooms, and sometimes the rooms themselves aren’t in bad shape and are kept as is.
The “3 things” was originally provided by HGTV to the homeowner. So is anything made by Clint/Jimmy Don/etc. They’ve seemed to move away from the “3 things” in the later seasons though, but it’s very possible we’re just not seeing the decision-making process anymore.

Eh, I wouldn’t have expected the main Duggar family to eat a roast. It can be very expensive. I buy one for my husband on special occasions and it’s $15-$20 for a couple of pounds. They’d probably need at least 4 roasts, maybe 5 to feed everyone. I’m surprised she hasn’t made one for Ben before now, but maybe they didn’t want to spend the money on just the two of them.

Samuel is also hooked up to a portable at-home apnea monitor in that picture. I know he had one in one of the first pictures Derrick had posted when they were still in the hospital, but that’s the first proof I’ve seen of one actually at home.
The oxygen tape does not come off for anything! I think my daughter had hers on for a few weeks before they fell off. We were instructed not to pull them off ourselves.

Unless an ultrasound shows anything drastically different or you just don’t know LMP because of birth control, the doc is going to use LMP to calculate the due date. I’ve used internet calculators for both my kids before my first prenatal appointment. Lo and behold the doc gave me the same date both times.

When my kids were born, they didn't get dressed in real clothes until it was time to take them home.
I wonder how long Sammy stayed in NICU?
Besides the oxygen, he has an EKG electode peeking out from under the neckline of his shirt.
They encouraged us to dress our newborns in bodysuits in the NICU to help keep them warm and keep them from pulling their wires off. They even provided the clothes, unless we had special outfits that we wanted to keep track of.

Like I said in the other topic, (I'm pretty sure) Joy-Anna is due at the end of February. Jinger is probably due something like 8/1, which would line up both with the Vuolo's anniversary and finding out the week of Thanksgiving. I would consider that six months, even if counting by days puts it closer to five months.

Isn’t Joy due at the very end of February? I could see her saying six months even if Jinger was due 8/1. Depending on Jinger’s cycle, she could have found out the week of Thanksgiving with that due date. That would make it an anniversary baby for Jinger and Jeremy as well.

No, Jill announced her exact due date with Israel and she went over by two weeks. She took a lot of heat in the media for being reckless, especially when it led to a bad birth experience. After that they stopped announcing exact dates and have gone with seasons (due in Winter) or months (due in February).
