Good point! And I could totally see 7-months-younger Spurge surpassing Izzy in potty training. Didn't Jessa say that Spurge was on the verge of starting to potty train?

So, since I don't have human kids, I'd like those of you who are parents to weigh in: Does the desire to start potty training start with the toddler/young child, or the parent? In other words, I could see Izzy being physically ready to potty train but there's no incentive for him to do so if Jill hasn't made any attempts to introduce potty training. Whereas Jessa may have been monitoring Spurge and determining when he would be ready, without necessarily trying to force him to potty train on her schedule.

A mix of both.  If the kid doesn’t want to potty train, there’s no way they are going to be “forced” in it.  We started several times with my oldest and it never clicked with her until she was about 3 years, 4 months.  Once she figured it out she never looked back and never had any accidents because she was mature enough to know what she was doing.

It could be that Izzy can pee in the potty but not poop regularly yet.  Our pediatrician said not to push pooping in the potty because constantly holding it can screw up their gut in the future.

Americans potty train way too early because of the cost savings at daycare.  All my kids’ stay at home friends potty trained a year or two later then the daycare friends.

  2. I truly believe Austin and Joy were horny for each other and got married on the sole premise that the other one was hot.  They both never gave any consideration to what life would look like when they aren’t having sex and that’s why their personalities don’t mesh.  Joy also had a throwaway line earlier in the episode where she said that they are making sure to get alone time when Gideon is sleeping.  I’m not sure if they weren’t fundie they wouldn’t be tied together by at least a kid or two.  I don’t particularly see Joy sticking to a strict birth control routine.

At one point during Joy's labor, she said ,"help me breath, Meagan".  Was Meagan the midwife, I wonder?

Meagan is Austin’s sister.  The midwife was named as Lucy Ferguson in an earlier episode.  She wasn’t mentioned nor did I see a glimpse of her during the first 19 hours.

No matter how much the family got when daddy kicked the bucket, it still had to be divided 3 ways, with mom, Deartick and his brother.  That's a lot of financial support over quite a few years to ask of an insurance policy.  Even one for a million+.  And none of these folks strike me as investment saavy, so I don't personally buy that they've all had these buckets of cash to live on (including the TLC money) without having been bankrolled by others.

Cathy is an accountant.  I don’t think she would have necessarily mismanaged the money and she has since remarried.  If she kept that money separate to go straight to the boys and managed it so they didn’t have full access at 15 & 18, then I suspect she/they are doing okay.  Dan certainly didn’t make enough at that Boy Scout job to support himself long-term and no one knows what he’s doing now.  There’s $$$ somewhere.

  5. After seeing the whole season now, I didn’t see any mention of Joy’s “professional” midwife at the first 19 hours of labor.  I get the feeling the midwife showed up, felt the baby was breech, tore Jill a new one and demanded that Joy be taken to the hospital ASAP.  I have my doubts that a real midwife would have missed the breech, but I can absolutely believe Jill would.

Josiah and Lauren’s house looks like it was originally a house then converted into some kind of medical facility.  Probably a rehab center of some sort.

Although Derick's father was a law enforcement officer, he passed away from a personal medical event, not in the line of duty. Would the insurance pay out be less if not in the line of duty?

Since quitting WalMart, Derick has had no paying job that I know of. If I remember correctly, the Dillards didn't work FOR that missions program, Jill stated that they worked  ALONG SIDE of them in Danger America. How are they and how have they been paying their bills? Who actually is paying for his law school tuition, which is not cheap by any means. After pontificating their financial beliefs and lifestyle as debt free, etc.. I think they should clarify how they have been living and how they are paying for this schooling. When one goes public with information, they are fair game to be asked specifics about that subject, IMO. When things 'change up',, they should explain why things changed.

Daddy Dillard was active law enforcement when he passed away.  I would expect that he would have life insurance as part of his benefit package, a pension, and private life insurance.  His pension payout could have easily cleared half a million dollars if he had been on the force for 30 years.  I also wouldn’t be surprised if Cathy had been carrying a million+ private policy on him.  The Dillard’s wouldn’t have been able to claim wrongful death against the department for extra $$$ but private donors may still have contributed as well.

Derick also may have been able to tap into extra scholarships or was eligible for extra financial aid because his father had passed as well during his undergraduate years meaning more was available for law school.

I 100% believe Cathy is bankrolling them now.

  7. At this point, the Swanson’s are definitely angling for their own TV show.  That family is just straight up weird.  Plus I’m sure Dwain has been on TV more then all the other in-laws combined.

The last time I checked Dwain didn’t own any property in Arkansas so I would guess that house is rented.  I can’t imagine they would give up 100-year family land in Georgia to live close to their daughter’s boyfriend.

Interesting... guess Jill screwed something up or JB said no.

Jill took her fab fit fun (is it one word or three?) post down. I wonder why?

I don’t really follow any other TLC families/shows (The Little Couple is my other) but have any of the others started straight up shilling while their show was on the air?  I wonder if Jill is still shackled by a TLC contract.  Some will have non-competes that can last for a long time.  Depending on how things are signed, she may not be able to get out of that albatross until the whole family is done.

  10. I believe Derick said on a Twitter reply that they wanted to homeschool but not use the ATI teaching tools.  Miss Cathy has also been a huge proponent of homeschool on Twitter and was commenting/talking to people individually about programs she recommended.  I suspect that when the time comes Miss Cathy will be taking the front seat on teaching and not Jill.  I kind of get the feeling that she wants to help “raise” Izzy and Sam in a way that she “failed” her boys because she worked during their childhood.

  11. It wasn’t a mission trip.  Ben and Jessa were in San Antonio for one of their speaking engagements.  The person tasked with babysitting them ended up working/was otherwise busy so he told them about a bible study Jeremy was hosting that night.  Jeremy and Ben became friends and stayed in touch.  At some point Jeremy met Jinger over the next year.  Ben invited Jeremy on the Duggar’s mission trip (presumably for Jeremy to get to know Jinger more).  Then after the mission trip Jeremy asked JB to basically court Jinger.

They are kind of sketchy on the timeline but it seems like Jeremy and Jinger knew of each other for a year, courted for about 7 months, then were engaged for about 4 months.

I read on FJ that TLC fudged another timeline.

Some of the family travel to Laredo, supposedly to surprise Jinger on her anniversary. Except they know that Jinger is expecting; this wasn't announced until Thanksgiving weekend (for those keeping score, their anniversary is early November). The Duggars also wore winter coats. It was in the upper 70's in AR on anniversary dsy, so it was likely even warmer in Laredo. Ergo, the Duggars did not visit Laredo on JinJer's anniversary.

I guess TLC really thinks their viewers are Grade A morons not to figure this out.

They could have been holding onto the picture for awhile, but this was posted 1/3/2018.  It’s the same hair and outfit both had at the “anniversary” dinner.

  13. For as crazy Cathy is, she doesn’t strike me as someone that’s dumb with money.  I’m sure they had a college fund for Dan & Derick and I’m sure there was life insurance set aside to fill those accounts if the worst should happen.  Derick went to a state school as a legacy admit and was the mascot which both usually qualify for scholarships.  10 years ago college was pretty cheap compared to today’s prices.  It may be as simple as a function of the less he paid for his undergraduate degree, the more he had for pursuing a secondary degree.

Michelle did 19 baby "calendars"?  Sorry I'm calling bull on that!  My mom did a full baby book on my brother, mine has like my name in it!  I always thought that was normal in most families.  LOL.

Jessa called it a “family” calendar.  So I can see one calendar for each year and all the milestones for the year are written on it for all the kids.  That doesn’t seem like it’d be too hard, especially if it was hanging somewhere easily accessible.

  15. I think it depends on the program.  My husband went through a program that required business professional wear.  Most of the guys wore suits without a jacket or a dress shirt with a sweater in the winter.  Ties were required.  On Fridays they could wear jeans and polos.  No T-shirts or flip flops ever.

  16. I don’t think anything is too funky with Jinger’s delivery.

There aren’t really in midwives in Laredo.  There are a few that will service the whole Rio Grande Valley, but if Jinger wanted a birth center option she wasn’t going to get that in Laredo.  I suspect the RGV midwives specialize in homebirths only.

There is a hospital in Laredo that is fairly highly rated with OB services, but for whatever reason Jinger didn’t want to use them.

I would guess Jinger & Jeremy chose Ms. Godfrey because she likely did have some ability to get patients transferred to the hospital/to an OB with hospital privileges.  She's also probably well known at that hospital and given a large latitude to do what she wants with her patients.  Once whatever shitshow went down with Joy, Jinger likely chose to go to the hospital route instead (or had something in her own tests that would make them want to choose a hospital delivery).  She probably could have then delivered in Laredo but that would mean starting over with a new OB in a late stage of pregnancy that wouldn’t play as nice with the midwife facility.

Divorcing the Duggars.  Jill gets fed up with Derick and files for divorce.  Boob and Mullet are horrified and refuse to let her come back to live at TTH.  They attempt to get custody of Izzy and Sam, or whatever their names are - I can see Boob and Mullet saying that.

TLC gives her her own show, showing the divorce, the family shun and finding and setting up her own apt or rental home.  Getting her GED and finding a job.  Putting the boys into a real school since she has to work.

People would that up and she'd be a star.

Only problem is Derick could block the boys from TV and probably would.  A show with just Jill would be worse then watching paint dry.

    Forgot to post this earlier...

When Josiah and Lauren were in the car with her siblings, audio played of her stating that she has 8 siblings and then she started listing their names and ages as the camera panned to shots of them in the car. She continued on and stated, 'all eight of them are going to get ice cream with us.'

Deal is that the chick only named seven siblings.

WTF??? My daughter caught it and replayed it to double check because she'd been paying attention to the list as I fiddled on my phone. Sure enough, Lauren said she has eight siblings...not that there are 'eight of us' or some such. We then replayed it couple more times just to be certain.

No question that Lauren is another 'failed for all intents and purposes graduate of the SOTDRT.'

Bodes really well for their future childrens education. Two dumbass parents 'educating' the football team they will bring into this world.

She does have eight siblings now.  The last one was just born a few months ago and is Gideon’s age or slightly older.  It might have been spliced in where she said she had eight siblings, then counted off the carload.

I did call it on the JoKen board that Kendra used her mom’s doctor. Kendra and Mrs. Caldwell may be many things but they don’t strike me as reckless.

That’s another reason why I think the Caldwell’s knew.  My first OB appointment was 8/9 weeks.  It took about a month to get that appointment.  Kendra probably had to set it up once she peed on the stick, especially to get permission to have the cameras in the appointment.

I can't watch the videos, but saw that she was induced for labor. Was there a reason for that?

    7 minutes ago, libgirl2 said:

It had something to do with her getting to be overdue and having too big a baby.

I also suspect that Jinger always had a soft induction date planned.  You don’t live two hours from where you want to give birth without having some advance planning.  It’s not like they went to that last midwife appointment and had to stay in San Antonio unexpectedly.  They were prepared with suitcases and a car seat to stay.

  21. I wanted to know if Jinger got her piano for her anniversary.  I don’t think we’ve seen anything on SM though and I’m pretty sure with how she was talking about the price that she shut that idea down hard.

I also thought the implication was there that Joy had gestational diabetes.  Especially considering that the finger prick seemed more like glucose monitoring vs the test with the sugary drink.

Kendra’s house was cute.  I think her mom knew she was pregnant.  Maybe her sister too.

Joy and Austin are weird.  That’s a weird marriage.  I can’t put my finger on it...

Jeremy and Jinger are never going back to Arkansas.
