  1. Huge ebook reader here (exclusively for years now).

At least in my opinion this is one of the shittiest ideas I've EVER heard on Shark Tank. And I'm including stuff like the bedside Bacon cooking alarm clock in that as not even this bad.

    Why?

Because in EVERY was possible it's a waste of money, effort, and time. It's utterly unmarketable to buyers, utterly a waste of resources for most authors, and effort wise a waste because it's doomed to never get over those problems and make any money.

That stat they threw out where some absurdly high percentage of people said they've pay a dollar or two more per book for this kind of enhanced content is utter bullshit. Some skewed survey/study done just to support a claim, and our guts should all be telling us that's the case.

eBook buyers are already outraged at the price of ebooks, given the lack of materials cost with them. That's why there's probably more eBooks being stolen than even movies and music. Or even the less larcenous often go out of their way often to rent/borrow eBooks (from libraries or online lending services) rather than pay what the prices ALREADY are for them before adding another few bucks for extra content people could just use Wikipedia to find out.

Here's Mr. Wondeful's book, Cold Hard Truth On Men, Women, and Money: 50 Common Money Mistakes and How to Fix Them, by Kevin O'Leary. Now nobody but public libraries or very or impatient people buy hardcovers anymore, so the $25.35 price on that is mostly fantasy. But note that the paperback edition is $12.49. And now... note that the Kindle edition is... $11.99. With NO shipping to stores involved. No trees harvested or recycled paper bleached and printed on. No expensive paper cutting and binding machines being used or maintained to make it. And it's a mere 50 cents LESS?

And now some bozo really thinks he can charge another 2 or 3 dollars and people will buy it, just to avoid having to reach over another few inches, pick up your smartphone and type something into a Google search? REALLY? Trust me, I'm laughing really hard here. These people are MORONS to think that. Absolute idiots on an epic scale. And the Sharks saying they thought it sounded like a good idea, even if they didn't like the valuation or their exact strategies? Sound foolish as well if they really believe that. It's a garbage idea.

Speaking of Google (or even Wikipedia), if the eBook being read is on an Internet enabled device--an iPad or Android device I mean, rather than a standalone eBook reader (admittedly the standalone readers--the black and white eInk ones--are typically far better on your eyes though)... well I bet another way to accomplish the SAME thing as this product is to tweak the eBook reader software to simply integrate directly with Google search or Wikipedia. Why spend a fortune embedding stuff into an eBook file when you can simply build software to search on whatever a word in a book is, using existing tools, basically for NOTHING.

Idiots. If I was in that room during that pitch I would have called these guys on all of that and smashed them to pieces.

Absolute truth, especially the idea of tweaking the ebook reader. I hated this presentation.
  2. Ok, ok, I'll admit, finally, on the last day, that I've been a hate watcher of her show.  But only via dvr and often months behind, ok?  Never first run - got it, girlfriend / boyfriend, lol ??

Don't know about back in October, GussieK, but I did notice, b/c I was dvr'ing reruns, that the CNBC ptb changed the schedule around Jan 1 and ran her programs only 2x instead of the 12x (or whatever, haha) they were previously doing.  Either they realized viewership had dropped significantly or they realigned their schedule in advance, knowing she was calling it quits the end of March.

I guess anyone commenting here was a hate watcher. I did not realize reruns were reduced. Commenting here was much reduced from TWOP levels. Oh, well, I will miss it. I'm not sure I like the sound of the new show.

  3. . I think Linda -- maybe -- avoided the background check. :)

I believe she was going out with Danny in junior high.  She was a known quantity with no bad history.  Unless she shoplifted bubble gum or something like that.

  4. This episode is significant because of her relationship with the guy who took the photos. So a lot of filler to get to that last scene where we're not sure whether he is going to delete the pix.

  5. Thank you! I was trying to remember where I knew him from.

Jaime Camil is the sexiest man alive--everyone should watch La Fea Mas Bella!

I'm very late to this party.  I read something only yesterday in Slate about how Jaime Camil was on this so I started watching the pilot.  His role is really small, but I liked the show a lot.

  6. There was something about the Teacher Snow Day skit that fell flat to me. Like someone above said, the only real laughs started when the principal showed up with no pants. But, for me--and I'm going to sound like I'm an old lady shooing kids off my lawn with a broom here--but I'm tired of the "smoking pot is hilarious" thread that's running through this season. There was that skit where all the potheads came out on the streets earlier this season. And Pete gets at least one, "That kid smokes pot!" joke per episode. I'm starting to wonder if it's in his contract. Last night's was the "100 hours a week" thing in the monologue. And then the teachers were smoking in the Snow Day skit. I know there's a whole genre of Haha Potheads Are So Funny movies, but is just the idea of smoking pot a hilarious punchline that should be getting this much play? I'm ready for them to get off it already. Just me? (Get off my lawn!)

This type of film has just become tired.  It's like a repeat of Lazy Sunday.

Give me more Jebediah Atkinson.  I could watch a half hour of him every week.

Bring back Kenan Thompson's sex tapes with the old guy in the garage.  Hilarious.

  7. I'm the one who gave her the nickname, but I have no idea how to post her picture.

She has dark brown hair in a "Buster Brown" kind of haircut, assuming you're old enough to know what that means; bangs cut straight across, the rest ear length, very straight.  Blue (googly) eyes.  In the Scratchy Car-Fight segment, she was sitting in the front row behind the plaintiff and wearing a grey top with a black cardigan.  She was a little more subdued than usual, probably because she was in the front row and didn't have to lean around someone in front of her so the camera would catch her.

And to whoever said being a spectator in JJ's court is their dream job, I think I'd be bored to death after a couple of cases.  I even saw someone falling asleep behind the defendant a few days ago.

Thanks, Puffaroo.  I think I may have already deleted Scratchy Car Fight.  Maybe not, though!

  8. Boyfriend seemed to . support her weight loss but why didn't he have a job? I hate when stuff like that goes unanswered in what purports to be a documentary of sorts.

  9. I love the William Holden episode andvthe Albuquerque visit. Another one that makes me double up with laughter is the one where Lucy learns golf from Jimmy Demaret. You can catch it on Youtube. They trick Fred and Ricky by doing silly moves like a hop skip and a jump Before hitting the ball.

I just love Lucy all the time.

  10. Google Eyes is a man.  I think someone posted a screen shot a couple of pages above.

Oh, wait a  minute--is there an audience member named "Googly Eyes"?  I've never seen her.

I was referring to the plaintiff in the rental case!

Yes, please post a picture of the audience member!

  11. LOL, really? Is it the accent? I don't find it that hard to understand. I had problems with Jimmy and Alfred though.

I have to watch all British shows with closed captions.  I can't understand anything!

  12.

If they had gone with the traditional schedule of 2 hour episodes with 1 task and boardroom per week, this week's would have been parts 10 and 11.  Next week they're padding with a clip/outtake show at 8 with the regular 1 hour episode at 9, which would be part 12 normally, and then the Live Two Hour Finale!!! is the following week.  So the show was filmed to last potentially for 13 weeks and the decision to rush it was made after the fact.

I am not minding this shorter version.  I felt that during the last season the episodes seemed too drawn out.  We don't need to see more of them going through the tasks.

  13. The stealing stepfather:  I thought it was another example of JJ's making plaintiffs do a police report to prove they weren't in collusion with defendant.  She never says it outright, but rather she says "You see where I'm going?"   I bet they never file one.  The explanation of why they didn't file was spurious.

Quintuple Cappucino:  Wow, I was waiting all weekend for that from the previews, but once it was on I actually felt sorry for her.  She is clearly mentally ill.  As noted earlier, interesting that JJ let her go on and on.  Very rare for JJ.  I think JJ did not think she was being insubordinate.  She couldn't control herself.

Goggle-eyed roommate:   Goggle-eye clearly was scamming the other guy to live there without paying the rent.  He said he would get a wire transfer from his mother and then didn't pay.  His argument that the guy wouldn't have let him move in without paying didn't hold up.  There was definitely some kind of romantic relationship gone wrong.

So once Goggle-eye was in, he was in, and he knew the law--no self-help evictions allowed.  Eyebrows would have had to send written notice, go to court, etc.  So Eyebrows really screwed himself by lying to the police to get the protective order.  JJ's unpeeling of Eyebrows's lies was masterful.

  14. Predicting that WCBS in New York will pre-empt her Judiness for the storm of the century (she's on at 4:00 in NYC).  The storm which hasn't even started yet.  I'm in NJ, and it's been just flurries all day.

    EDITED TO ADD:

Ding ding ding, I was right.

Sarcastico, when this happens, I watch at 10 PM on channel 55.  Do you get that channel?  Channel 55 is a CBS affiliate in NYC area.

  15. No. I'm in the US. I'm glad so many like this show and I agree with a lot of the comments regarding Amanda and the German Widow. Of course, I loved the relationship between Geordie and Sidney. I agree that it was nice they had Georgie seeing the value of Sidney's help instead of constantly dismissing him. I hate that particular TV trope.

That's all I'm going to comment on though because I don't want to inadvertently give hints to how some of these plot lines play out and ruin it.

So how does one see these in advance in the U.S.?  Is it some bootleg download?  I wouldn't mind seeing Downton Abbey.

  16. I finally found this on On Demand. It wasn't under the "G" tv shows. It was tucked away under PBS, then under Specials. But well worth the hunt! I love cozy mysteries, whether they are TV or book form.

PBS lets you watch many shows on their website also.

  17. I've already seen all six episodes and I enjoyed them very much and am looking forward to season 2. I watched for Robson Green because I loved him in "Wire in the Blood" and "Touching Evil" and he is just as good in this. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the actor playing the vicar (James Norton, who I've never seen before) is excellent as Sidney Chambers.

I'll be interested to see others thoughts on this one. I may do a re-watch since I'm sure I'll catch things I missed the first go round.

I love it so far.  Have you seen it in the UK?

I looked up the actor playing sister's boyfriend.  I knew I had seen him somewhere.  He was in Silk, another show I loved.  I am eagerly awaiting season 2.
