@deangirl I don't remember meta information about the quiz maker being used this way before! For me it was when Jared Padalecki, who's only ever played two roles, managed to show up twice in one quiz.

Back, back, before even myspace, in the age of friendster.com, Atlas Shrugged was hugely popular among people who hadn't read a book since college but wanted to pretend they had. It was right up there with Of Human Bondage on the "that book doesn't mean what you think it means" reading list. It was only when far-right conservatives rediscovered Ayn Rand a few years later that people realized they should stop pretending they had read it.

Well, it's never once occurred to me to watch Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, but I want to join the anti-Seinfeld pile on. How dare he not give Kesha a hug! Like, I don't want to hug Kesha either, but there's a way to do that without holding your nose and acting like your country club started letting women in the Coho Room during lunch.

Truly some of the clues were more obscure than the titles themselves. But you and I both know there were plenty of us thinking, "Well, Witchblade is bound to be next. I wonder whatever happened to Yancy Butler?"
ETA: every time I hear or read mention of Lodge 49, my brain runs through the same cycle of thoughts. From "Why no mention of Thomas Pynchon?" to "This show sounds right up my alley" to forgetting I had ever even heard of it until the next time it's mentioned. Peak TV, amiright everybody?

The perfect martini has nothing to do with olives. It's about having a method for getting the smallest possible amount of vermouth in, and using an ice shape that cools the drink without melting a lot of water into it. The ONE THING I would have expected from this writing staff is knowing how to be a proper drunk.
ETA: If Dave had recorded an entire second episode at the end, I would have listened happily.

That's because Stephen King's darkest secret is that he's at his best when he leaves the supernatural stuff (mostly) out of it! I know that's not how his "real" fans feel, but it's where I'm at. Even The Shining, my favorite of the books of his I've read, is only really scary when viewed as the story of an abusive alcoholic falling off the wagon, rather than a goofy-ass haunted hotel.

For some reason I chose an angry baby Batman avatar when I made my account here, so I feel compelled to weigh in. Batman the Animated Series deserves to be in the cannon if only to recognize the reach of its influence across media (what other cartoon adaptation had so much impact on its own source material?), but even I would be on the fence about any single episode being cannon worthy. Monty picked a good one, and made an excellent case. A 20-minute episode may be enough to promote a D-list villain to B-list and change the way he's portrayed in print, live action, and video games, but it's not quite enough to actually make me care about the character (as Sarah would say) qua character.
Also: up until someone said Utah, I was going to need to watch an episode of The Outpost just to satisfy my curiosity; but if it's made in here, it surely makes use of the strange, small film industry that exists only to make adaptations of passages from the Book of Mormon (the iffy religious document, not the musical) for young Latter-Day Saints, which means I already know exactly as much about it as I'll ever need to.

The exclusive focus on TV true crime always felt like a bit of an artificial limitation, and I think the podcast will improve with the chance to stretch its limbs. But between TBP moving off site and Tara doing recaps for Vulture, I'm feeling a little sad for p.tv. But, um, excelsior!

@txhorns79 5-year reunions are totally a thing, but you're right that the idea of them is pointless. But I'm Team Tara on not wanting anything to do with any reunions. Eff those idiots.-

Yeah, that kind of nerd has always been around. If anything, that was the original model of nerdery. What's really been bothering me are the queer spaces where I've seen him defended. "Let's give him the benefit of the doubt and talk for a sec about how hot he is." It's exactly what happened when Oscar Pistorius killed his girlfriend, except Hardwick isn't even that cute.

Yeah, that's exactly what I was wondering. I heard stories about Kevin Spacey being a predatory chickenhawk starting the first day I heard the name Kevin Spacey. I've never heard any rumors about Chris Hardwick, and I didn't know if that's because there weren't any, or because I just hadn't heard them. I'm pretty good at avoiding the parts of the internet where abusers are defended and women are reviled for calling them out, but I've found people in unexpected places defending Chris Hardwick. Why? because he panders to nerds he must be a great guy? Gross.

Surely the speed with which Hardwick was canceled suggests there have been powerful people wanting to cancel him for a while? I never had strong feelings about him either way, but I somehow find myself pleased this has happened to him, so I guess I must not have ever forgiven him for having chemistry with Jenny McCarthy.

I believe Vanous is pronounced more like van-us, and his acting ventures took him as far as a starring role in a two-season TNN show called 18 Wheels of Justice. And I don't know if my next sentence should be about how much his career sounds like a joke from 30 Rock, or how sad it is that I remember this much about a simian thirst trap from 25 years ago.
