In addition to Damaris' traveling food show, she announced on FB today that she and Bobby Flay are getting a new show on FN.

Good for her.  She actually can cook and deserves a show where she does so.  I'll watch.

Why didn't Rusty microwave the potatoes to get them cooked faster? Oh wait.... no one uses a microwave on TV.

Remember some show from years ago where cooks would try to make a dish and get it on the menu at a chain restaurant?  Emeril was the mentor, and when somebody cooked their baked potatoes in a microwave Emeril seemed astonished at this use of the contestant's magic box from the Future.

Let's see, here I am with a bone-in chicken breast that I want to turn into chicken salad.  I want to watch someone do it so I don't cut my finger off trying.  Shall I choose chef Matthew on Food Network, a name I can trust?  Only if I get to watch him cut his finger off.

Another "honey" from Jason to Amy. Does he ever do that to the male contestants? Like I wrote before, I find it condescending, not endearing.

I'm kind of used to people like Jason, but there was no excuse for Asshole referring to Amy as "Ames, babe,..."

The "Kobe" hot dogs Rusty found (and why didn't he use those in the first place?) had to be product placement.  Next week, rib-eye scrapple.

My favorite moment was Rusty's grumbled, exhausted sounding "amazing..." when they are introduced to yet another previously unknown soul who is about to start appearing on Food Network without going through all this crap.  When they were introduced to the second line jumping future FNS later in the same hour I was surprised he didn't explode.

  5. There was no way Cory's giant meatballs weren't going to be disgusting.  He should have made and baked 500 sub-cocktail sized meatballs and piled them up like a mountain with a single strand of spaghetti draped across the top. Because who really cares about the spaghetti, amirite?

I've never looked at  Instagram or anything, but unless proven wrong I don't believe this bit of someone cooking something in real time while people at home cook along and ask questions is something that really happens outside of the context of this show.  I know Asshole said it was just like the ones he did from his living room, which was roughly as credible as rampant voter fraud or that there was an audience watching them do the ones we saw last night (which one or two of the others referred to).  But I believe our "mentors" were implying that this was something FNS's did all the time.

PS ... Hope this is not inappropriate place to write this next question but I don't see ANY other thread that is a spoiler thread, and actually though I've pretty much been staying spoiler free, I am curious/need memory jogged ... they don't actually record the ENTIRE show (including winner) in advance, right? Isn't at least the finale closer to real time (not live maybe but not done until the very end?) ...

They may have done that when they were pretending "audience votes" affected the script (although since they were the ones reporting the "audience votes" they could have been written in, too)  but they dropped that fantasy so now they don't have to.  As to early leaks I seem to remember some dummy on the web crew put up an ad for Aarti's new show before she actually "won" but I could be wrong about that.

As long as Ree is one of the top-rated shows on FN, she's not going anywhere. FN cares about revenue, and she is bringing it in - big time.

As I understand it she pays for and produces the show herself and presents it to FN complete and ready to air.  I have no idea about the financial arrangements (i.e. does she pay them to run it or do they pay her to supply it, and how the ad money is split up).  Either way, it's no work at all for them which already makes it more attractive than having to pay someone to come up with scripts and and arrange for production of something like the Food Truck Race or FNS.

Sam's point was to put your energy into efforts that have a chance of paying off.  Yes, get mad, but get tactical.

Exactly.  Plus right down the line every choice following a successful impeachment is worse.  Pence is even more evil than Drumpf plus he's an experienced politician, and it doesn't get any better after him.  So the tactical move is to keep 45 in court, pissed off, fuming and useless until the Congress can change hands - trying to limit the damage.

  9. Not exactly a cooking show, but I see they've found someone else not that concerned with their health in the short term to reboot "Man vs Food" on the Travel Channel next month.  The clip below is not a preview.

  10. I was born in and grew up around Albany, and I completely missed the mispronunciation because my brain was screaming "Dude, if you can take a bus towards or away from Albany, away is always the wise choice".

I finished the season today and am ready to write the whole season off as one Very Special Episode (or one of those Christmas specials British shows sometimes throw in between seasons) and pick up the next one basically where the last one left off.

Either that or they had generic footage of him saying, "Nailed the demo!" and ran with it.  Naw, producers never do shit like that...

He'll read off whatever they put in front of him.  Which is, perversely, 90+% of the job description.  It's the not being hideous part he can't crack.

  12. I was surprised to hear Debbie say the Steel Hammer successfully drove outside of the ring, I was fully expecting a "what anabolic steroids give here they take away there" outcome.

I don't remember listening to a whole bunch of stories when I listen to The cooks on the PBS network.

To be fair Pepin sits there and tells stories while his hands apparently on their own make these amazing knife cuts and assemble things like I will never be able to do thinking about it let alone on autopilot while babbling away.  He's charming, though.

I think we're being set up for Addie/Asshole Star Salvation final.

She's smart, nice, and funny but, as far as I know, not a good cook.

I;ll take your word for the smart, nice and funny - the good cook as we all know is no longer a requirement to be a valued part of the FN "family".

  15. Poor Rusty being the designated Great Value fluffer.  His tip should have been "Quit your job and go on EBT so you don't have to feed your kids this horrid Chinese-sourced shit".  I didn't think FN could afford the stunning Masterchef-worthy Walmart products, so that's how they get around it.

Bald Paula Deen is 50 shades of annoying.  Addie must be Giada's price to pay for getting to boot all the younger, prettier women off the island.  The two non-blondes were a hoot to watch.  And speaking of which, who was the one they threw in for the first judging?  How come she didn't have to go through this gauntlet?  I've never heard f her, but she's reportedly a Youtube Star so would have been a perfect choice to tell Matthew that he'll never be one with that smarmy act and punchable face.
