I wonder if the contestants are separated so they can't strategise ahead of time.

I wondered that too when the show returned.  In Anne's day they all visibly hung out before the taping and you could tell there were alliances like "we three together will vote off the player farthest to the left, regardless of performance, and end up as the final three."  It was another layer of evil that couldn't be overcome.

  2. Why the Faruq do they show us stupid behind the scenes "fun" about how teams look like their robots and cut out actual tournament matches?  Why is Witch Doctor "feared" and "legendary" because they came in second in 2019?  Why are the commentators so visibly disturbed that "not our year once again" Hypershock got whipped once again as they so often do?  Why the thumb on the scale that ensures at least one Udder Gun (as well as WD) gets into the tournament?

I just felt bad for Glitch who got screwed.  ED chick said they were just sitting around all day.  Why not change up the match order and give them more time to fix their glitch?

He did. He said he wasn't going to tell them and asked (in his talking head), 'Does that make me a dick?'

To which I replied to the screen: Yes. Yes it does.

Think of him as Chekhov's dick.

  4. We never watched this show before, and finally finished season 3 last night.  I've read the episode threads, but one thing has been bugging me which I haven't seen mentioned.  You don't just harvest opium poppies and end up with heroin.  Refining it is a dangerous, labor intensive process and from what simple googling tells me Darlene's fields would yield maybe $60K street value at the end of it all (and as a wholesaler she'd be lucky to get half).  How is this a viable business plan?

A read about Ghost Raptor, but really more about the layout of the venue and how things are done.

I didn't know that if you can't get off the new elevated part of the floor in ten seconds you got counted out, as this article claims.  Maybe because no working bot has been seen up there yet,

  6. When they were killing time / padding it out showing bits from earlier in the season, they included the results of the first week's competition, where the top three were Suu, Autumn and Kelsey.  Thanks for showing up to catch cannonballs, other seven.

Stunning legendary show can't afford to pay help to plug in the ovens.

I wonder if Suzette Gresham replaced Joe's mom Lidia Bastianich as the "legend" this episode.  If this was filmed post-Covid perhaps Lidia might have backed out.  No disrespect to Suzette but I would consider Lidia more of a culinary legend than she is.  Her name was only vaguely familiar to me going into this episode and I've been around a long time following the culinary world.

We were thinking the same thing.  Didn't they call her "The Queen of Italian cuisine" or something close to that?  I don't know how retired Lidia might be, though.

Was going to mention that about McDonald's fish sandwich.  Guess that combination doesn't bother all the people who buy that sandwich, me included.

Perhaps I was forming my refined Top Chef level palate back in the 1970s when I first had one of those and thought "That cheese doesn't belong there. Yuck!"  But I never picked up the taste for runny eggs or undercooked meat, so maybe not.

When Dawn was recruiting Jamie to help her plate we were both asking why didn't she ask one of the guys who had already presented.

  9. Can someone tell me who is playing Lily's book agent Veruca?  Not listed with the cast on IMDB and it's driving me nuts.

We are thoroughly enjoying this series and want the Kings to take over Troma Studios ASAP,

I know someone upthread said Tom's hat looked like something he pulled out of the trash, but looking at this pic, I think it's probably a very pricy panama hat.

Of course.  It costs a lot to make a hat that looks like it was just pulled out of the trash.

Oh and while I love Avishar, clearly someone could do risotto in the allotted time because Dawn made it too and they seemed to love it, though the love part was her apple olive oil puree/sauce.

And she was smart enough to just call it risotto and not try to make up a name/twist.

Tom at Kiki's prep table is in the dictionary under "Sniff 'n' Sneer".

I enjoy the Bounty Hunters as much as the big show.

Having seen three so far I tend to agree.  I'm glad I didn't spring for Pay TV to see them, though, which I was near to doing at a couple of points.

As for the triple fool, after ruling out a pre-filming peek, and having an uninterrupted view of the field from when the envelope is opened to the reveal, it is hard to figure out how it was done. I don't have a clue myself. The only way I could think of

    Spoiler

I thought maybe the number bricks were actually faced with arrays of LEDs which could be controlled remotely.  The relatively low resolution would be easier to hide when shot from a distance with a low resolution drone camera. Not sure if that counts as high tech,

  14. My DVR picked up an episode on non-pay cable I hadn't seen a few days ago, had different opening credits.  Would this have been from the Bravo run?  Are those on a package like Discovery+?  I'm proposing Ben Bailey for new Jeopardy host.

  15. Am I not remembering right, or wasn't setting up a pre-game alliance among three players a bigger part of this game the first time around?  If your squad made it through the first round (likely, since your three votes would go for your first chosen victim and you'd be unlikely to have four of the other five peel off one of yours) you pretty much had the top three locked up after it and didn't have to fight until you were down to three, regardless of who answered how many questions right.  I remember lots of chatter over alliances and lots of skilled players knocked out by them, with Anne accusing the players of chicanery as one after another strongest link got cut.  Maybe they let them all hang in the Green room before, and now they are isolating them until gametime.

I think that Ari is a more accomplished cook in real time than the way she was depicted.  Watching her use that mandoline without a finger guard and looking away while doing it along with the way she was handling that saute pan during the championship final.

This plus if that was supposed to be her audition tape she has a pretty nice kitchen at home.

I've always liked Alex Guarnaschelli on Chopped so I'm glad she's finally doing a season of Worst Cooks. There's only so much Tyler Florence and Bobby Flay one can take.

Alex did one of their competitions where they had to mentor contestants who were really trying to cook (unlike these) - I forget the name but the mentors prowled around on a catwalk and got to go down for 1 minute or something once per round when a button was pushed.  Anyway, ahe seemed comfortable in the teaching/mentoring role.  I'm just waiting around until Scott Conant pulls the short straw and is forced to do this.  He'll be even less gracious about it than Alton Brown was.

What was in the package that Judy had at the end of the episode?  And what did the note say?

I'm with those who aren't enjoying season 2 as much as season 1.  I can only take so much of otherwise intelligent people making stupid decisions.

I had to go back and rerun that myself.  She was anonymously returning the rock she and Steve swiped from the Petrified Forest with a note saying something like "I knew somebody who stole a rock from your park".
