  1. Why oh why is Dylan supposed to be an expert on marriage? It's not his fault that he was only married for like an hour because his wife was shot, but still. And all the men on this show can go to hell with their contempt for women. Janet actually told Steve why she didn't want to marry him, and getting down on one knee or buying a ring will not solve that, you bunch of assholes.

  2. They couldn’t find male models on short notice working for peanuts... in Los Angeles? I doubt it. Also, have we ever seen Donna actually sewing her collections before - or didn’t she just doodle away?

It would have been AWESOME if David had told the true story of how Dylan helped him in college. “You see, I was hooked on OJ and then I accidently brought an undercover agent to my dealer’s place and ended up with the whole stash...” At least that would have been a somewhat interesting story instead of “Dylan doesn’t like quitters.” Oh, really? Dylan has quit just about everything he was ever into whenever he couldn’t be bothered with it anymore.

I carried my checkbook with me a lot in 1999 so I buy that Dylan would be carrying his with him.

I'm perplexed by Donna's crop cardigan sleeve thing.  Would that actually keep you warm?  Or is it just meant to be ... "fashionable"?

I don't know what that cardiacs thing is called in English, but in Danish is it called - directly translated - a soul warmer. And they were very fashionable, I had at least three different ones. Worn over equally fashionable spaghetti strap tops. Paired with Ally McBeal-short skirts or baggy pants. In short, I do not understand why 90's fashion is in again ...

  4. Steve is not only Janet’s boyfriend but also her boss. Wouldn’t he have noticed if she called in sick or went on a few days leave because she was to have an operation? That is the most stupid plotline/confusion story EVER. Not to mention the ongoing mystery: where does Janet live?

White flip flops are an especially bad choice for cleaning up puddles of blood.

David feeling sorry for himself because "the nice guy" is a loser who gets trampled on is rich. YOU ARE NOT NICE.

Again this show teaches is the very important lesson (that I wish I had understood as a teen): anyone who are busy calling himself a nice guy is NOT nice.

  6. What a season! I remember disliking Gina in the few episodes I watched back in the day, but now I like her. She does actually bring something to the show unlike Matt. Love the David clip - that clumsy rage is exactly how angry storming out always ends for people, very true to life.

So that we will know that he is sexxxy.

I may be getting old, but if I was asked to someone’s home on a sexy date, I would be very annoyed to have to sit on the floor. Even Lucinda offered her dates - if not her students - chairs.

  8. Isn’t it off brand for Dylan to lie to Mary?
As always on this show, apologizing seems to be a foreign concept. Kelly does say “I’m sorry” but then she goes on demanding that Gina accepts her apology or she’ll be kicked out of the apartment. That’s not really how that works, Kelly. Also, shouldn’t Donna have a say in whether her cousin/sister (oops, spoiler alert) is being evicted for daring to be hurt and angry about Kelly sleeping with her boyfriend?
It’s like the writers realized that Kelly acted like a total bitch and had to do something to make the wievers feel sorry for her and forget how awful she is, and so she is raped in a parking lot.

Well and don't forget that Dylan also has a secret half sister he did not know about until her mother conned him. Dylan would have a lot of advice to give about secret half-sisters, but it seems it is such a common thing with this group that maybe it is NBD.

Apart from The Walsh twins, who even has “normal” sibling relationships (not counting the twincest): secret and/or unknown siblings: Kelly, Dylan, Donna/Gina. Siblings who vanish: Andrea, Valerie. Halfsiblings who are plot vehicles and not really persons in their own right: Steve, Kelly/David.

I laughed so hard at the clip of Dylan falling off the jet ski and the cut into the guitar riff intro.

I laughed so loudly in the street that people stared at me - it was so great expecting what was coming and waiting for it ... and there it is: DA NA NA NA. So great!

  11. Donna, a supposedly grown ass woman of 24(?), is wearing her hair in four freaking pig tails.   Stupid baby is stupid.

I may have been guilty of doing that around that time in fashion history. Not a defense of Donna or her hair; more like something that I should be ashamed of.

  12. Am I suffering from Stockholm Syndrome or is Steve looking pretty good at this time in the show? It's so hard to care about Lauren. When a pic of her was up on the facebook page a few days ago, I couldn't even remember who she was, even while reading the caption. No one cares. But at least she gives Kelly another reason to be a smug bitch, so there's that.

I thought Brandon was always a know-it-all sanctimonious character even when he wasn't with Kelly , but I agree those qualities magnified when he was with her ( especially round 2). Kelly was worse though and annoyed me more because at least Brandon had a sense of humor at times . Kelly was either angry , bitchy , cheating or all 3. She had no sense of humor and made Brandon somehow seem like the winner of the two .

Steve was the only realistic character to me . He acted young. He partied , he dated around , he laughed , he was immature , and he gave 0 Efs just as most people his age would . Eventually he grew up and got married , had a baby , a career , was silly in a grown up way and I think he was the only character with growth as the series went on . The others either regressed or seemed to have been born as 60 year olds and stayed that way the whole series .

Listening to the podcast has made me rediscover my love for Steve. Sure, he’s a terrible person sometimes (racist and whatnot), but he seems more realistic as you said. And he’s a charming son of a bitch.

  14. come on, Dylan, you’re supposed to be so cool in your European ways: You don’t take an espresso to go. You order it, you drink it. Sigh.
On the other hand, I’m so happy that the book finally mentioned Luke Perry’s pet pig. That was really the big thing in all the teenmagazines at the time. He’s so cool and quirky, he has a pet pig!

  15. Having a “comedy” plotline involving corpses in freezers is really in a soap/drama series. One moment: social injustice - the next moment: teehee, this guy died and we put him in the freezer. What?! And strip poker? Are they 15 years old?

  16. In a way it is good that the writers forgot that Kelly and Dylan have known each other since the sailboat and whatnot. I’m not sure any of us could bear if Kelly and Matt had gone to the playground to find Dylan (which they surely would have if the writers had known about it).

Matt should break up with Kelly and go get drunk while smoking a million cigarettes. And about that: did he quit? Have we seen that or did the habit disappear with grandpa?

  17. If I didn’t think it would be too cruel to the rest of the world, I would request the new sound drop and use it as my textmessage tone.

Isn’t it a little eeird to have Dylan come back and let him be totally unlikeable amd disgusting? At least he had his charming moments in earlier seasons. But a gunwawing drugaddict as a “special guest star” leading man of the show?

  18. Nice shout out to the puzzle. #neverforget

Do you think the writers hd a bet going on how many times they could use the same gun plotline without anyone noticing and caring?

Also: Noah as an inanimate object is very precise. But I kind of appreciate him now when I only have the audio version of him - he’s involuntarily funny and every single clip of him makes me laugh.

Not a fever dream.  It all comes to a head at Steve and Janet's wedding/baby shower when Steve tries to pass his parents off as "normal" compared to Janet's extremely traditional and uptight parents.

You mean the parents who started out as hippy-dippy free spirits a season or so ago? The writers of this show are the worst.
