LOL! We are making sound like Lennie is being sent to prison.

LOL. Agreed, that we may be overreacting, but if he would have seemed more excited, or had gotten the name of the show right, I would be less cringy.  He wouldn't even look at the camera for more than a couple of seconds. Even Melissa McBride was tearing up like he was off the main show for good. Ha! hopefully all goes well.

It's never a good sign when you catch yourself looking at the clock, hoping that the episode will end soon.

Concur... it's only been two episodes so far, but this war is boring.

I'm still having a hard time understanding the actress's dialogue too. I wish she would enunciate better.

dammit... thank you! I thought this was just me.

Unfortunately, she also looks about the same age as his mother when the lighting isn't just right

    So true.

Because the story isn't working right now it is easy for  to get distracted by the superficial elements. I hope this reboot gets better.

"I thought you were born ready Shaka Zulu!"

This was the best line of the show for me.  I laughed out loud -- seriously. The Sam and Dean reference was the second best line..

As with most pilots, this, too was a bit shaky, but I am in for the duration I think. I feel it will get better. I will miss MVP's character, and hope his spirit makes plenty of appearances.

Though the show is produced by Mario Van Peebles, I did not like the use of the N word,

And agreed, I wasn't happy with the use of "N-word" from the salty old man.

Alicia is now like a gaunt, emotionless zombie, just like her mom and brother.

Agreed. Alycia Debnam-Carey looks like she is really phoning in her performance. In the last three episodes, and specifically in these last ones, she looks dead-eyed and blank. At first I thought it was to show the character's descent into sadness about their circumstances, but I remember the actress' performances from the early days of the show where she conveyed Alicia's feelings with a range of emotions.

But then again, I can say the same of Frank Dillane. Kim Dickens never did anything for me though - she was emotionless from the start, but I digress.

On another note, one thing that definitely cracked me up this episode was the talk of "brown people" not being welcome over at Brokejaw Ranch; seeing Frank Dillane next to other actors at the ranch makes it seem like the preppers/white supremacists are blind.

Last night's episodes made me wish this season did not focus solely on the ranch. although I thought the duality of Jeremiah's personality was interesting. He hates "brown people", but is cool with sharing his canteen with one of them. It was also interesting that Ofelia drank so greedily from the canteen, and was going to finish the water, but was stopped by Jeremiah... just a few episodes ago, this self-same act of  Strand greedily drinking water from Daniel's canteen was considered a negative character trait  by Ofelia's dad (whom I can not stand, but like better as a character than Madison). So watching another thirsty person gulping offered water voraciously just a few episodes apart, I wondered what the writers were saying there... was there a comparison to be drawn or am I overthinking?

Lastly, I was secretly hoping that the characters from those 30-second vignettes would have made it to Walker's hotel, and have been a part of the group of other "brownish people", but yet, another missed opportunity. Maybe they will show up when we return from the break.

I was seriously embarrassed for Megan Fellows when that three way happened. What dumb and gross way to end a character arc.

Agreed. Even she looked embarrassed! I didn't understand that at all.

I did like the way they handled almost all else, especially the extremely mature way Mary handed over her son James to her brother when she realized the jig was up and the arrest would hold.

I loved seeing Toby Regebo again and I agree, he and Ms. Kane really do/did a good job of displaying a couple hopelessly  in love with one another.

but her Moon River was just okay for me here

Agreed, to me her voice was extremely thin, I don't know anything about her as an actress/performer beyond Supergirl, so I gave it a pass and said "Ok, this is no biggie, she's an actress 1st, not  a singer, and this episode is about actors singing." I decided I would go with the flow, until the "Put a Little Love in Your Heart" performance, where everyone was stellar, then I realized this was a for-real for-real musical and Benoist being the lead on it disappointed me a bit. Despite that, overall I liked the episode and am glad I saw it. The Buffy musical though will always be tops in my book though as far as musical episodes on non-musical shows.

The minute they got back to Alexandria they should have had a sit down and started stashing medicine, food, etc.

Hopefully, Father Gabriel and crew stashed a few unregistered weapons in those graves they dug for Maggie, Glen and Abraham... well, one could hope, right?

  9. Anyone who lives in NYC? Our local station WPIX11 has a morning anchor by the name of Sukanya Krishnan. She is horrible. She is a total know-it-all who interrupts all the guests in a loud, bullying manner. She talks over her everyone, co-hosts and guests included, and interjects her opinion on everything. In the last 4 years, she has had 4 different co-hosts.  She has always been a huge personality, but a lot of her co-hosts were able to hold their own. She steam-rolled over the last guy, Kori Chambers, I think he went through a lot trying to be affable, but her dislike for him was palpable. He was brought in from a Chicago news show specifically for the morning show, now he anchors the weekend news.

  10. I'm still trying to give this show a chance, but it just isn't that good. I can't believe they went ashore picking through the luggage like they were shopping. everybody was being extremely selective. I kept expecting that they would hurl bags directly into the boat and shove off. That would have made a lot more sense.Seriously, the writers thought it made sense for some of this group to go ashore and sift through the luggage on the beach like they were at the mall on a Saturday afternoon.

As for the characters, I don't root for most of them, not just because they are boring, but they are whiny and ungrateful. Grant it, Strand is a special kind of guy- he seems like he lived above it all - a little high maintenance, but, the rest of those ingrates have the nerve to get on him because they feel they should decide things on his boat. Ok, so Salazar finds out the boat may not actually belong to Strand (or something last week), so that gives them the right to tell him how to operate the boat that he already had some relationship to even before the ZA started. So he's going to Mexico, and was wrong about San Diego; folks don't like it? folks can get in one of those lifeboats and leave. The antagonists on this show simply suck. I just don't understand why we had to side with them. Most of them have zero redeeming qualities and barely have anything interesting to say or contribute.

I hate Alicia, she's whiny. I hate Madison, she's so entitled. I hate Travis, he's moronic. I hate Salazar; he's a prick. Ofelia is annoying in the scenes shes in, and when she's not on camera, she is forgettable. I only like Nick, because the actor at least sells it. When he was in the pit with the crabs and the walker, he at least telegraphed shock and fear;  Chris, I like because his character seems to be adapting - at least he understood the difference between a walker kill and killing a living person - it was clear he understood he had to  put the living passenger out of his misery. Strand, I'm tolerating. If I forgot anyone, then they just don't register to me. Wow, that was cathartic.

This show was to tide me over until he parent show returns, but I don't know if I can deal with these terrible characters. If by the end of the season they kill off most and just leave Chris, Nick, the teen from last week, the chick from the plane, possibly Strand, and one or two new non-asshole characters, I think the show could be ok. I can't believe Kirkman and co think Madison is supposed to be the everywoman... she sucks - both the actress and the character.

  11. Victor... The actor looks a little older this year than last year but I think he's supposed to be the same age all the time.

Agreed. it was just a little tiny bit distracting over the season seeing the way they shot Victor in his scenes to try to make him seem the same age he was as when he returned in the previous season. In long shots, he wears very ill-fitting shirts and often stands in a strangely awkward position that it looks to me like they want to make it appear as if he hasn't changed during the months between seasons for the audience. It would be great if the writers could just incorporate the growth spurt into the show  - like now that he's back, he will continue to age or something like that...

That aside, I love this show immensely and am disappointed the season is coming to a close. I've seen some folks on twitter saying the show has lost its way or they they don't understand it anymore, and blah, blah, blah, but this show is still wonderful and unraveling the mystery is an incredible journey. Last night's episode contained one of the creepiest scenes ever for me; I actually had a bit of dread in my stomach. That part when the soldiers went to investigate the shot they heard and they had the soldier/shooter surrounded. The soldier was still hallucinating and was a bit hysterical. When the camera cut to the mediating soldiers/cops and their faces went from normal to almost desiccated resembling fresh zombies, I gasped. That was brilliant and unexpected, then it got me even more excited about the direction of the show. The slow build of tension in The Returned is part of the greatness of the show.

  12. I decided to devote my full attention to the show in hopes to find new viewing pleasure. so for that hour except during commercials I paid rapt attention to my tv. I thought this show was interesting.  I was pretty impressed with MK's temporary transformation into martial arts bad-ass effectively giving his rival the beatdown for which he was asking.

I did have some weird WD crossover thoughts though, esp. when Sunny and MK were burying that group of people in the beginning; I was all like "Make sure you got the brain or else they will return.", then I came back to my senses.

I will be back; Daniel Wu has me hooked. He was quite sexy, esp when he and lady friend were canoodling, the way he was taking her in with his gaze was ... scintillating.

  13. Watching this show with someone who both doesn't keep up enough to have seen all the episodes and insists on talking/asking questions when you have no way of pausing the show is an incredibly frustrating experience.

Just needed to vent about that a little.

I had the same issue... you must also have a loquacious Gemini in your life.

I liked this episode. I was really saddened by the ugly conversation between Annalise and Bonnie. I was waiting for one of the characters to say the title in the episode, but was jarred to hear Bonnie utter that phrase to Annalise. That tear running down Bonnie's face, while she worked to remain steadfast in her anger and conviction was powerful.
