Dallas & San Francisco have both won playoff games more recently than New York,

And the Giants have won a playoff game more recently than the Steelers despite being awful for most of the last seven years.

Stuff happens and the fortunes of teams can change quickly. As time passes, all that really matter is which ones are stacking their trophy room with Lombardi Trophies. Since the Giants won their first one in the 1986 season, only the Patriots with 6 have won as many as the Giants. If the Niners win (which, boo!) this year, they'll join the Giants with 4 in that stretch.

  2. I’m solidly rooting Chiefs and Lions today.

Lions because good for them, and I found the Niners fans I interacted with to be particularly unlikable this year. Chiefs because never liked the Ravens and I don’t play this game….

  3. I've been seeing a couple of things with Kylie Kelce (Jason's wife) appearing on Good Morning America and giving the run down of their trip to the Buffalo/Kansas City game.

I think my favorite quote was, "He really wanted to go through a table. Like on the checklist of things to do at the Bills game, at the top was Go through a table."

    Heh.

  4. Poor Todd Bowles. He got himself exactly what he needed, which was a really good coach to run his offense for him, and he loses him after one year.  Hopefully, he finds another good one.

  5. Oh wow. I REALLY like Dave Canales.

If we dig back far enough in this topic, I am pretty sure I stated that I didn't think Tampa was going to be anywhere near as bad as people were predicting going into the season. And my reason was that I don't think Baker's that bad, and that Tampa made a great hire for their OC.

Canales has a resume that makes it pretty clear that he was a BIG part of what helped Wilson and then Smith turn into really good quarterbacks. He clearly did it again this year.

The dude serves up QB improving magic smoothies for breakfast.

Having said that, head coach is an entirely different job, so heaven knows if he can be both the QB coaching guru and run the rest of the team.

ETA:  Found it! I figure that if I say enough things, every once in a while I'll get one right.

I'm an outlier. I like Tampa to be not terrible this year. They still have a tough defense with a really good defensive coach. What I really like about them is the new offensive coordinator they took from Seattle. He's got a very interesting resume. There is a chance he's a difference making kind of coach. The kind of guy who can make a unit perform better than the sum of its parts.

  6. Interestingly, my supermarket has food bank items already bagged up in paper bags. They're labeled with how much you're donating. So as I'm checking out, I can just grab a $5 bag or a $10 bag, scan it, and then drop it off in the collection area on the way out of the store.

It's a really good idea, and it gets a lot more activity than asking people to remember to pick up something while they're shopping and then drop off that item in the food bank collection area.

Worked for Pete Carroll. It's a decent situation, they're not terrible. But I don't see how they get past the Chiefs as long as they have Mahomes.

A good head coach and a good quarterback can take teams into deep playoff runs once in a while, even if there is a juggernaut in the way every year.

Feels like the 2021 and 2022 Chargers were capable of far more than they accomplished.

I bet a lot of people are going to be looking for any evidence to show that he could have been edited out.  With the bracket format it would be hard to do that without some signs of it, especially if he got very far in the competition.

Oh, I hope it's comically obvious.  Like just pixelating over his face in the group shots.

Both.  The matchup against the same 2 teams in the 2022 Calendar year at Arrowhead was North of 40 Million.  The Taylor Swift effect helped get the total over 50 Million, but without it, the game was expected to do well.

Exactly. If you're an NFL fan, this material bump in ratings is a really good thing for you and your sport. It's obviously a the rich getting richer situation, as the NFL is already by far the most popular thing on TV. Other sports are staring straight down some serious problems with the rapid deterioration of the regional sports networks, and how they're going to generate TV revenue going forward. The NFL on the other hand is in great shape and gets a weekly influx of new fans who became invested in the Chiefs because they are fans of one player's girlfriend. Heh.

The majority of the Kelce/Swift ratings bump is likely temporary. Kelce is 34. If the Chiefs manage to win their next two games, there's a heck of a chance he'll just retire.

Since this thread has apparently become a "I hate the Ravens" outlet, I guess I'm leaving for awhile.

    Go Ravens!

Speaking for the Giants fans, I'm not sure if it's we "hate" your team. It feels more like I don't forgive your team and do not wish it any future success.  I have no problem with Ravens fans. Baltimore fans are a pretty loyal bunch, and at least you all chose to root for the Baltimore team over the Washington team.

Now Washington... that's a team I will enthusiastically root against.

If it makes you feel better, I hate the Ravens slightly less than I hate the Chiefs.

For what it's worth, I think I was on an even smaller island than usual for the "people who didn't hate your team" group during 7 of their 9 super bowl appearances.

Last Monday there were two football games.  Today we have no football games.

I have no issues with Lamar in any way, but fuck the Ravens.

Do you think your dislike of the Ravens goes back the miscellaneous Super Bowl that your team somehow didn't win?

    Because mine does.

For what it's worth, whenever somebody this year pointed out that Llamar Jackson is something like 83-1 versus NFC teams, know that "1" was the Giants last season. Probably helped that they forced a bunch of turnovers that let them come back from trailing 20-10 in the fourth quarter, but a win is a win.

  15. I know that I tend to be on a sparsely populated island when I say I rarely if ever root against a great team or athlete just because they win a lot. This isn't to say that I root against NEW teams because they're new. I would really enjoy a Lions Super Bowl win if it happened this year, as they have a loyal fan base who would genuinely appreciate the victory. I felt the same way about the 2019 Chiefs.

So if it can't be the Lions, I'm totally rooting for the Chiefs to win their third championship. Mahomes is great and he earns his wins with talent and hard work. Andy Reid seems like a really good dude, so I'm good with him having continued success.

And on that note, Kelce and Swift also seem like they're decent people. There are SO MANY bad people to root against in the NFL, not to mention the ones who are just general purpose dicks, that I'll save my unkind words for the ones who deserve it.

  16. That whole colors of the Super Bowl logo thing is fun and part of why I said the script has been written.  I REALLY hope it doesn't work out this year, but I should probably go ahead and make other plans for this Sunday so I don't have to sit through 7 straight hours of disappointment.

In actual football news, that one TD pass that Josh Allen threw where he scrambled to the left and then threw an absolute dart to his receiver right on the pylon was sobering.

Nobody on my team is making that throw. Ever.

  17. Next weekend is set up for one big disappointment for me. The Ravens are the one AFC team I actively dislike. And after listening to Niners fans trash talk all year, they can absolutely extend their championship drought for another 25 years for all I care.

But the script is written, and that’s what I am getting this year. Blech.

From the outside perspective, Arthur Blank seems like a not terrible owner who has allowed his coaches the space to sink or swim on their own merits. That alone puts the job as no worse than the top third in the league.

This is the entire reason. I’ve heard him interviewed, and he’s a good owner.

This is from my FB memories from 10 years ago on this date, and I cannot for the life of me remember why I would have found this funny.  I mean, Seattle won the game, and I think Richard was still there then?

(edit - this was apparently the San Fran / Baltimore SB so now I’m even more confused)

    FOUND IT!

So Super Bowl 48 was at the Meadowlands, Seattle vs Denver, which explains the GW Bridge comment, and the general snark about the fact that holding a SB there was less than ideal (traffic, weather, and so on.) I actually turned down free tickets to go to that game, because, no thank you.

So I did a quick search on the NFC Championship and Richard Sherman. He broke up the final play SF ran on offense, smacking down a pass aimed for Michael Crabtree.  It was a good play, and in the highlights of that play, I noticed that the announcers mentioned flags were down after the play was over, and right at the end of the highlight was a very quick glimpse of Sherman getting in Crabtree's face and pushing him back by his facemask.

So I went looking a little deeper, and I have your context for you.

    heh...

  21. For what it's worth, I checked in with my friend, and it's the Chocolate Fudge.

I know that she adds it to a frozen fruit, spinach, and oat milk drink she makes. Also has some chia seeds, peanut butter, and other stuff like that in it. I made myself a few times. I can't do the seeds, however. My dentist scared me off of anything that could get caught under my gums.

  22. I have a friend who really likes the Orgain brand organic plant based protein powder. I know it's chocolate that she uses, but I don't know if it's the Chocolate Fudge or the Chocolate Peanut Butter.
