Yay!  My Alma Mater was THE answer tonite!  Oh-IO :)

I would have had to editorialize, accompanied by a wrinkled nose. Was kind of surprised that Dr. Gupta didn't express his disdain, given that he is also an alum of THE University of Michigan :)

I moved to Rochester in January and no longer listen to Chicago news or programming.

reminds me of a story about a guy who was traded from the Detroit Tigers to one of the teams in Texas a few decades ago. The guy asked one of his old Detroit teammates to send him a TV. The teammate asked why...don't they have TVs in Texas? and the response was "Sure, but they don't get any of the Detroit stations!

Is it out of the question to calmly explain to Jeff and Steven that all their hooting and hollering causes potential food sources to leave the area?

Her sitcom has apparently been renewed for a second season (somewhat to my surprise; it's quite bad)

Boy howdy, you are not wrong about that. Too bad "How does this show stay on the air?" is not a J! category :)

I was caught off guard by Mayim's comment about the Aerosmith clue, but not offended. I didn't take it so much as an ageist comment as it was that Aerosmith is a hard rock band and the contestant looked like a sweet, prim, Mom type. (And I know that today's sweet, prim, Mom types are the ones who grew up listening to Aerosmith, but it's easy to forget that!)

It wasn't that she didn't look like an Aerosmith fan...I'm pretty sure I'm older than her and grew up on the Stones, Zeppelin, Cream, etc., all hard core rock. We still think of ourselves as cutting edge rebels, but one look in the mirror and you have to remember reality :)

But SAHM from Alabama does not tick the Aerosmith box for me. A stereotype for sure, but I'd imagine that the edgiest music she'd listen to would be Christian rock.

Are there people who hire themselves out to shop with you?

there's a guy who frequently posts on Jalopnik, Tom McParland, who will do all the work for you (for a fee, of course, because that's his business) He's not the only one who does stuff like that, but he seems very much like someone I'd want to do business with

it’s Palatine and she added an N, that would be incorrect. They judge that kind of mistake wrong all the time.

Generally, the host would ask the contestant to say it again if there were confusion. Long i vs. short i should not make a difference in the correctness of an answer unless it changed the meaning

    And YAYY Jennifer from Dowagiac!

Her pronunciation of "Herbs" with the vocalized "H" was bugging me -- mainly because I do not think that is how Michiganers pronounce it

This Michigander pronounces it without the leading H. I noticed it too, maybe she's channeling Martha Stewart :)

But yay Jennifer! I'm rooting for her due to our fondness for Dowagiac, having spent some time at a cottage nearby. Not a touristy town but close to some major recreational areas and the SW Michigan wine trail

In addition to her role on Two and a Half Men, Melanie Lynskey was also the woman who had "a baby....in a bar!" in Sweet Home Alabama.

She's also popped up on Young Sheldon. Lorre definitely has his stable of players.

    "Can't Live" by Harry Nilsson

I am always there for Nilsson! But I could see it being a perfect "this is how I feel" song after a breakup.

Painting him as the victim of a manipulative woman would make me want to throw things at my tv.

But it would be pretty consistent with the Chuck Lorre oeuvre

Am I the only one who thinks Missy has turned into a brat?

I think she's turned into a hormone-addled teenager. Drama all the time is pretty consistent with that.

  11. I didn't like the Adam story, it was manipulative and gratuitous. Total hand-wave to the existence of Christy--I have a daughter, she moved away.

Everything else was pretty formulaic. Unlike BBT and The Office finales, when this episode comes up in reruns, I'll probably skip it

Not someone who doesn't know the difference between Joan of Arc and Edith Piaf,

Yup, this. I know there've been some jaw-droppingly bad answers on J! but this was crazy. And in no episode ever have they shown a contestant losing their shit like that. It was gratuitous

What were the relatives thinking that they accepted anything from that woman?

My dad has a bit of a hoarding issue (not nearly like the people on the show, but still we will have a hell of a task when he goes). But he will let things go if he thinks they are going to be used...my sister would ask for things for her classroom just to get some of the crap out of the garage. So I could see that being a motivation for accepting something that they will just throw away themselves.

What happened to Christy is the opposite. She started off as one of the central characters and then over the course of the series got pushed to the sidelines.

I wasn't clear, sorry. IMO Christy was the victim of being Fonzied;  as nodorothyparker said, Bonnie is Fonzie in this scenario.

I tend to think Anna is the reason there was a show in the first place.

yeah, she got Fonzied, or Barbarino'd,. IIRC, there was a category on TWOP for shows where a secondary character took over.

Christy was THE Mom the first few years if you look at the opening credits, then she got pushed aside and progressively became more of a sad sack.

  16. Christy comes home for the summer with a fabulous boyfriend, Violet and Roscoe come over to see her, and Wendy moves to Detroit for a big promotion at the same hospital as Abishola. No pianos were harmed in the filming of this episode, although my husband would be much in favor of one dropping on Bonnie

    The End.
