Someone should have made a Boston Cream Pie just to watch Paul's head explode!  Or a vinegar pie, one of the "desperation" pies that American homesteaders were famous for.

    That would have been amazing.

I make a sugar cream pie...talk about sweet...and also freaking delicious. I’d love to feed that to Paul. In a proper pie dish, thankyouverymuch, not a tart tin!

The really cool thing about Terry is that he does his homework and really listens to what the pros tell him as they do the play-by-play for figure skating.  Whenever I watched him with Peggy Fleming and Dick Button, I'd always forget that he doesn't have a skating background (his competitive sport was college basketball until his coach told him he'd be better off going into broadcasting).  I think he'll do very well with gymnastics if he keeps up his habit of studying, listening, and asking the right questions of the experts around him.

ITA. Terry is great. Not only does he do his homework, but he lacks the general air of contempt for gymnastics that Al has. And manages to not come across as an ass every time he opens his mouth. I hope he’s permanent. I still don’t love Tim, but Tim is so much more tolerable without Al. And Nastia seems much more comfortable too.

Rob Gronkowski bet $69 on his namesake. Because of course he did.

Supposedly he and his buddies bet that amount because the race was on 6/9...supposedly...

Is it weird that he's grown and they still call him DJ? Maybe he would have picked something like Dave or Jake?

He might go by something else outside the family but at home he’s DJ because that’s what he’s always been.

My husband goes by a different name around family and around friends. His family will always call him what they did when he was growing up bc that’s who he is to them. When we visit his family I don’t know what to call him...it feels foreign to use the name his family does but also odd to be having a conversation about him while someone else calls him a different name.

Was there some falling out between her and Maggie Haney?

Yeah supposedly something happened post Olympics and they’re no longer on good terms. So if she does come back it won’t be there.

  6. Not-Al’s voice is kind of boring, but he’s not Al so I’m 100% in favor of him remains in this position for future meets. Or John R - I like his dynamic with Tim, Tim is less annoying when someone is there to call him out on his stupid sayings

Also apparently not having to make room for AT&T commercials left plenty of time for Safe Sport commercials and awkward Kerry Perry soliloquies. The 2018 American Cup, brought to you by Damage Control.

I only have NBC coverage. Did they  even show Zhou's free skate? Also, hate that they no longer show the podium ceremony. WTF?! Give the skaters their due.

They didn’t on the regular prime time coverage. I was surprised they didn’t, and disappointed - I would have liked to see it (without having to go online or on demand at least)

One more thing about slope style skiing. Is it me or is slope style harder on ski's? There seem to be a lot more people who fall on the beginning part with the pipes than with the snowboard.

I think maybe because you have a small stick attached to each foot instead of one big board attached to both feet, it’s easier to get off balance and fall. I’m just guessing though. I was never allowed to snowboard because according to my father snowboarders are heathens.

I think the rails section looks cooler on snowboards but all the backwards shit on skis is amazing.

On an unrelated note, the Norwegian skier’s name sounds like Rocky and Bullwinkle.

I read your post yesterday before hearing that skiers name said and was like, WTF that’s odd...but then tonight I heard it and damned if that’s not what the announcer just said. Now I need to figure out what her name really is!

    ETA... it’s Ragnhild Mowinckel...

Because it can never be said enough: SHUT UP AL!!! (watched a little cross country skiing this AM)

When we had cross country on this weekend...

    Al: ...words...

    Me: SHUT UP AL!

My husband, confused: What’d he say?

Me: It doesn’t matter. He just needs to shut up

...though I will say he’s minorly less offensive when he calls CC. I didn’t hear him say anything awkward, racist, or derogatory...

I did get a kick out of Katie saying to Mike when Pita came out that "I'll handle this one, Mike!"

Until she tripped and fell over his last name. I know it’s long, but as a professional broadcaster if you’re going to publically drool over someone, learn to say their name.

I don't know who's announcing with Johnny Mosely, but they're a good balance for keeping Johnny reigned in and prompting him to explain what's happening, since it seems like Johnny just wants to watch and enjoy the events.

That’s Trace Worthington, old-guard freestyle skier.  He competed in Lillehammer in both Moguls and Aerials, the first time they were Olympic events. He also competed in moguls, aerials, and ski ballet when they were demonstration sports in Albertville. Him I like.

    Hate Johnny and Tara

    Love Johnny Mosely

I’m the opposite. I love Johnny and Tara but I find Jonny Moseley to be an irritating douche (though admittedly my feelings for him relate to a personal interaction with him 20 years ago where he was a douche..)

I also love Terry Gannon. I enjoyed how his tie subtaly matched Tara and Johnny’s outrageously sparkly outfits. I hope that was on purpose.

I posted on social media that Facebook needs to have a "Mark Yourself Safe" button for those of us making chili in our crockpots for the Super Bowl.

We’re doing a chili cook-off at work in a few weeks and my coworkers who watch this show and know I have the Pesrsons’ crock pot have forbidden me from using it, lest I burn the building down.

  15. USAG is holding a one-day selection camp at LSU to pick teams for upcoming World Cup events, including the second athlete for American Cup. Rhonda must be using her NCAA connections to keep things afloat.

It’ll be a change for the girls to have a camp at a state of the art facility in civilization instead of the Ranch!

I wonder what Valeri resigning means.  If he's implicated somehow or is he part of the clean sweep USAG needs to make?

My guess is sort of a combo. He's enough of a part of the old establishment that needs to go, so there could have been some pressure from above for him to step down. Plus his negative training methods have been called out in public recently, so that doesn't make him look too good.  And on top of that, Sam Peszek has mentioned that her mom (who is a USAG employee) and family have gotten death/rape threats recently so it wouldn't surprise me if Valeri and his family have as well, since he's way more involved and public than Luan Peszek is. He might just be done with all of it.

  17. I have that crock-pot. Like the exact one. Seeing it in Season 1 was one of my favorite moments of the show because it helped me date exactly how old it was (my husband was given it second hand from an aunt when he left for grad school). Now I'm not sure I want to use it anymore.

That being said, I'm glad it was the Pearsons' crock pot and not their old dryer, because we have that same one too and I love my ancient dryer way more than my crock pot!
