Please educate me, what does “let’s ball” mean other than “to play basketball”? Is it a euphemism for sex? I haven’t heard that one!

Little Richard??  Anyone????  Good Golly Miss Molly.  She sure loves to ball.

Ball as a safe term for sex has been around forever.

And good bye for another few years.

Unless.....we know they haven't followed it exactly which is usually followed by some excuse as stress, etc. which Dr. Now sees right through.  And because it hinders their progress which leads Dr. Now to send them back home and come back in another month and hopefully 50lbs lighter, they walk out all dejected and, "I'm determined to work hard....."  STOP!  I really loathe the 'work hard' crap.  Grocery shopping for healthier choices is not 'working hard'.  Prepping, planning and cooking meals is not 'working hard'.  Refraining from badgering your live-in family members to bring you take out or chewing them out for forgetting half the junk food on the shopping list is not 'working hard'. Making sure you get some form of physical exercise in each day is not 'working hard'. Especially since 99% of these individuals do not have a job outside of the house.

Addiction is a bitch.  Addicts will say and do and hurt anybody to feed their addiction.  Just because .......  Even people they deeply love.

Not making excuses for the extremely abusive addictive behaviors  we have seen.  But there are so many variants (often because of sexual or physical abuse) and other triggers, etc..that often remain unknown.

However,  once they reach this level of a messed up life on this show or Intervention,  we might be best to step back and hope they eventually accept the help they need.  I am often surprised at the true success stories.

  3. The Henry episode was on today.  What a gem of a man.  Seven years of success and difficulty and success condensed into one hour.   Sad he died of unrelated issues.   Near the end, Dr. Now mentions 2005 as when Henry's journey began.  I had never done the math before as to when they started filming.  I believe I read the original patients we saw, and many others, were part of study of the effectiveness of weight loss surgery on the 600 pound plus.  The genesis of this program.

Question: Do you all watch this show all the time? I used to watch it religiously, until the repetitive formula started to bore me. Now I only watch it when I myself am working to lose weight.

I watch each new episode.  The production formula is an afterthought part of the program.  I do not watch all the WATN episodes.

I am interested in the WHY?  The family dynamics. Are they addicts or not?  The resistance to or the acceptance of treatment.

    And the live chat!

I have mad crush on Owen Wilson. He was Edward Appleby in Rushmore. Never seen but a big part of that movie.

Please.  Bill Murray owns that movie!  He rewrote nearly every film role he ever played.

The closed captioning usually shows the pounders breathing heavily, but he really has a lot of heavy breathing and grunts. It's like a bad porno film.

You reminded me back in the late 70s, when my soon to be husband and I went to an outdoor drive in theater in NC that showed porn.  The entire evening was bad porn.

I thought it was funny how she told stories about four different guys and then she said something to the effect of, and then I turned 21…

Didn't she say ... at one point .... moving ahead?  I did giggle.

On the giant-leg-lymphedema scale, Lisa ranks somewhere between season 5's James K (hopeless) and Tracey (real progress).

Actually, I really really wanted to make Lisa watch Tracey's story — just to see that it could be done, even with legs like that. Tracey (45, from Ohio) ended up losing 200 lb and getting her first lymphedema surgery by the end of her episode. She had huge legs and tiny flipper feet, but she was still mobile despite the pain, and she rode for 20 hours in the back of a car to get to Houston.

Lisa ("I dunno") didn't seem very strong on imagination. Maybe it would have helped to show her the example of someone in a similar situation.

...No, I don't really think it would have helped much.

    Sigh.

    RIP Randy.

    WHERE'S MY RESPECT??? 😵

Did Tracey ever have WLS?  I think she was unique to this show regarding her issues and profound weight loss.  Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I suspect that during her hospitalization, Lisa found out about happy pills, and that was why her attitude changed for a while.    Then, back at her hovel, the pills stopped, and she went back to her usual, nasty self.

I thought the opposite ...... though the result will be the same.

She was either drunk or high on pills during several of the meltdowns.  Once in hospital, she maybe went through  involuntary detox because she didn't have her entire pharmacy with her.

Any way, can you imagine what her sister or whoever found in that hovel when it was cleaned?

Guys, serious question:  Who had the best SUCCESSFUL episode?  My bff is visiting me soon and she never watches this show, but she wants to see it.  I know the trainwrecks I can show her but I would also like her to see the good side of the show as well.  Who is your fav success story?

Diana, Nikki, and Susan are favorites.

I've always wondered who composed this stuff! I'm curious what name you've given to the "traveling music" with the piano arpeggios. I've noticed now they've added some percussion to it. Do you think it's for sale on Pandora?

    for your listening pleasure:

And we don't know what's IN her hair, either!

But I really came here to correct my timeline. I thought she had met Phillip at the shelter the night before she went to Ricky's, but on rewatching, I'm wrong. She said she left her mother's house, went to a shelter for one night and THEN she moved in with Ricky and her sister wife. I believe she went back to the shelter (instead of her mother's) after she left Ricky and that's when she met Phillip and later moved to a Houston hotel with him.

    Broken (Philip) Glasses.

    That's a great article.  Thanks.

I haven't noticed it being louder, however I have been paying attention to the music track.  It's pretty damned funny.

As a musician/music lover, I have named some of the prominent themes repeated throughout the many episodes.  And yes, you are allowed to roll your eyes.

It looks like a fire trap. And she would never get out in time.

And what’s with the Wide Load sign on the sliding glass door? This is horrible. Worst dump yet.

I think Lupe and Gilbert's hellhole was slightly worse.  And they didn't have a car.  Tough call.
