In theoretical Roseanneland, the Conners would have been poor enough for Becky to have gotten a lot of financial aid. Am I forgetting some reason that wasn't an option? In the 80s, tuition wasn't as insane as it is now, and you could go to school on financial aid and a part time job.

As a "poor" kid who graduated in the 80's, financial aid wasn't something that some kids were even told existed.  I literally never knew it did.  I just knew that college wasn't something anyone in my family was financially able to do for me.  taking loans or scholarships or aid was never talked about with me, not even by my school counselors.  They directed me to take office style classes (typing, accounting, word processing) for my electives & my Senior year I got into VOE (Vocational Office Education).  I was placed in an office job thru that class.  And I wasn't growing up in a small town or a small school system.  I was in Houston, 4th largest city & in the largest school system in Texas.  I was an A/B student who most likely could have gotten some kind of scholarship help & financial aid.  I did eventually take night classes thru the city college system but just to advance my office skills, not for a degree.

To keep it on the show, I can see why Dan could have gotten back to the point of hating Mark & blaming him.  Might not have been intentional, but what he & Roseanne feared about Mark came true.  He ruined Becky's life.  Again, not intentional, but that is what happened.  Also Becky WOULDN'T face her emotions over his death, that's why she drank.  So the forced therapy session breakthru made sense to me.  Dan wouldn't have said what he said any other way.  Becky wouldn't have admitted that she was angry at Mark any other way.  I also liked how they had Mark die.  Becky grew up with her dad riding a motorcycle & it being no big deal.  Something that she knew comforted her dad ended up killing her husband. It was probably something she never worried about Mark doing.  He's just going out for a bike ride, he'll be back in a few hours.  No biggie.  It also gave Becky no one to really blame for his death & increased her issues with dealing with it.  She never went thru all the stages of grief because she never worked thru the anger stage.

  2. Kody & Robin are just so stupid at times.  I get what Janelle is doing wit saying "don't come over".  I had to make the same type of decision about seeing my mom & brothers because I have 2 essential workers in my home.  We had to make the decision that it wasn't worth the risk of literally KILLING a loved relative.  How hard is it to know & decide that it's not worth the risk.

A local station started replaying The Partridge Family yesterday and I caught the pilot episode.  It was surprisingly watchable - and when did Shirley Jones get so young looking?  (don't tell me I know the answer!).  I really enjoyed it and may keep watching at least until the last season anyway which from the perspective of this once upon a time fan really really sucked!

I had the same reaction to how young Shirley Jones looked the 1st time I saw the Partridge Family.  She was only 36 at the time.  Shirley Partridge had to have had her first 2 kids before/around age 20.

But she's hardly alone. A lot of my friends are talking about decorating for Christmas on November 1st this year. Not me though.

I've "casually" mentioned putting up the tree enough that my husband had a preemptive hissy fit over it.  I'm not "allowed" to put it up until after Thanksgiving.  Except he'll be gone for 10 days before Thanksgiving on a hunting trip.  He's gonna come home & find the tree up.  And a 2nd tree just because "don't tell me not to do something" switch must be flipped...just saying.

Bin's had this great accomplishment and he's not going to get any credit or attention for it, I kinda feel sorry for him.        Ok it passed.  Gonna be interesting to watch the future Jeremy graduates episode with the full on cap & gown & preacher bow tie while little Binny sits quietly & wonders why he didn't get a party.

I can't get over the barn and the horse stalls. The hubris of building such a monstrosity blows me away. They really thought the money would keep flowing, that the public was so in love with them that the wealth would never end. I saw Kate's attempts at going solo by cohosting The View for a week and showing up on an entertainment show as a guest correspondent.  I think that was Access Hollywood. It was so obvious that she had/has no media presence in front of the camera. Did people try to tell Kate and she wouldn't listen, or were they too busy kissing her ass? Jon was there when they built the ridiculous house too. He was just smart enough to abandon it later. You knew the kids were going to grow up and the show was going to die out. I'm surprised Kate held on to the house as long as she did. I would have guessed it would have ended up in foreclosure years ago.

I watched the update where the twins looked at colleges. It was boring and annoying. Teenagers are not as fun to watch as toddlers. TLC dumped Kate because they couldn't use her anymore, not because of Jon.

they did not custom build the house, it was bought from a local doctor.

  6. If she's really careful, she can go on without hormonal birth control & not get pregnant.  I managed to.  Had 1 kid then between closely watching the date (tracking my period) and condoms we haven't turned up pregnant in the last 27 years.  It can be done.

  7. Keep in mind that at the time of the divorce, his MONTHLY child support was rumored to be $22,000.  A MONTH.  There was no way for him to maintain & pay that without a tv job.  TLC made sure he was unable to work on tv.  His only option could have been to trade $22,000 A MONTH for visitation rights.  That or end up in jail.

I'm not sure how much I really buy that Jon had no way of finding out where Collin was. I don't recall Jon ever saying he went to court to try to find out. And Jon seems to have money coming from somewhere if all the vacations he flaunts on his Instagram are any indication. Kate's a bitch, but I've noticed that Jon likes to pay the abused victim card.

Kate went on tv & gave an interview where she gloated & smirked about how she was the only one who knew where Collin was & she wasn't going to tell Jon.  It wasn't Jon playing the victim, it was Kate sitting in front of a camera being the villian down to her core.

  9. As someone who attended school in the 80s, they didn't let us girls take "boys" classes like wood shop or auto shop.  We could take home-ec, child development (wanna carry an egg for a few weeks?), or typing.   Boys had wood shop, auto shop, & weight lifting.

I would like to hear some of the “lesser folks” in Walton’s World bitch about the favored status the Walton clan is given. I was thinking about this because of the sheriff allowing the word of a Walton to be enough to keep someone out of jail.

There are multiple different episodes where Corabeth makes backhanded comments about Golden Boy/Johnboy.   But because it's Corabeth, it just gets played off as her being her bitchy self.  She tears into him pretty good during the mine cave in episode, but again, does it in hysterics, so she's shushed for being a drama queen.

I'm not going to try them, but...for anyone that has tried boiled peanuts, what are they like?  Is it similar to the difference between raw raisins and raisins that are baked into something?  So the peanuts get squishy?  They don't sound at all appetizing.

imaging crunchy roasted peanuts cooked until they have the texture of canned green peas.

I've never had boiled peanuts either but I can't imagine that popping a few in your mouth equates to a "big food experiment."

Although, with Janelle's digestion issues, I guess you never know...

As someone who had never had them until moving to Georgia where apparently, they are all the rage, it's definitely a "big food experiment" and one I regret ever trying.  I'm sure someone will disagree, but O.M.G. they are awful.  Words can't describe how awful they were.

Joy said in the video where she announced her pregnancy (Yes the rumors are true..) that she is due August 19.  (She says that while they're in the car around the 7:30-8:00 minute mark). So she is having the baby in 8 days, although a friend of mine was induced and labor into the night.

oh dear gawd, this is the closest I've ever been to having to share a birthday with a fundie.  August 19th is my birthday & I do NOT want to share it with any Duggar, not even a grandchild.  UGH!

So...I didn't see the set shown in the promo photos at the top of each of those articles? Is there a HIDDEN COURSE?!?!? *leaps for excitement* They show the triplets on one, so the contestants must have done more than one run?

Rutledge has mentioned either on his twitter or instagram/instagram stories (see I'm seriously a Rut fangirl) that there were rooms built that we haven't seen.  He's really pushing everyone to bing-watch multiple times so they can get a 2nd season.  But from the looks of everything (#1 show) there will definitely be a 2nd season.

Watched the first episode with my partner today. It was innocuous enough and something I'll check out again. I also have to concur with the folks saying that this scratches the Legends of the Hidden Temple / Shop Til' You Drop / Supermarket Sweep itch! I've missed gameshows like those recently.

And while I love all the props and rooting for folks to make it to the end, I also find it super fun to root for some folks to fall to their doom. Most notably during the first episode, I was absolutely chuffed to see the triplet brothers fall into the lava one after the other. Same for the sister from the mother/son/daughter team that had the personality of a cardboard cutout OF a cardboard cutout.

I loved the airline steward/stewardess team. He had to butch it up & the double entendre's at the very end of the course were really funny because he was starting to crack up at them too.

Here's a couple of articles about the show.

  16. I'm an admitted Rutledge Wood fangirl.  From Nascar goofball to Top Gear host to Hyperdrive and now to Floor is Lava.  This was way more entertaining than it should have ever been. Rut's over the top exuberance for everything really fits here.   Love all the different thought processes each team goes thru.
