  1. I'd agree with this. I also think they could have gotten rid of the prop for part of the routine so they could have done a bit more dancing, but I thought the concept was interesting and cool for the most part. At least he did something different!
  2. She looks incredibly beautiful and HEALTHY. She is by no means underweight. If that is 'needs to eat more' to you, then by your definition I'd be almost dead.
  3. I just re-watched that routine for the first time, and I have to say I 100% agree. I take back everything I said earlier about the costuming; I didn't find that too sexual at all on second viewing. Hailee stood out in the beginning and end (aka when you could see their faces), but I found myself watching Marissa throughout the middle. She dominated the floor work, probably because you couldn't see her mugging during it. That kip was indeed impressive, especially onto those heels. I didn't glance at Alexia at all, she was super unsexy.
  4. Jeanine definitely grew in stature as the show went on, in large part because she got away from Phillip. I think she has one of the strongest and most consistent bodies of work ever on the show. I don't think she had any true duds. She wasn't lucky enough to have a Gravity-esque choreography given to her, although ''If It Kills Me'' is memorable (and some of Travis' best work), yet she still won. Heck, I don't even think she was on anyone's radar until that piece, unless I'm remembering incorrectly? That routine outed her as a very mature dancer; there aren't many 18 year olds I can think of who I'd want to see dance that. I also can't imagine they would have partnered her with Phillip if they had originally thought she could win. Her ridiculously strength across all genres and her solos got her to the top; she wasn't shoved down our throats like last years winner. I liked LoFro, but she screamed young and excitable to me. I also think my opinion of her was damaged by the show trying to make her and Kent happen lol. Mel was lovely, and I was really keen on her at first, but I think she peaked too soon for me. I thought she went downhill after ''I Got You'', but the show made it clear she was to win regardless. Makenzie got such a rough deal from America. She was the only favourite of Nigel's that I wholeheartedly agreed with. She was one of those dancers that was constantly being complimented by the choreographers and shoved into the front of their group dances, yet the public never backed her, and I never knew why. I was so upset that she went home right after her brilliant performance with Jakob. I only really liked Jasmine outside of her own style, haha. I didn't find her to be anything special in contemporary.
  5. Thinking back to some of the earlier seasons, it's been awhile since the show has had a truly captivating and mature female dancer. I honestly think the last one was Jeanine, who to me is the best (whole package wise) the show has ever had. Since then there haven't been any standouts. I was never a fan of LoFro or Melanie Moore whom I'm sure some would argue were that. I thought maybe Makenzie in season 10 could have been that, but that didn't turn out well. Hopefully this season, with the strength of the women on Team Street, we could see another.
  6. I completely agree with you. The choreography together with the costuming, imo, made it impossible for the girls to not come across as overtly sexual. There was absolutely nothing subtle about it. To me, sex appeal comes from the dancer's attitude and movement, not how much skin they have on display anyways. That's why older dancers tend to be more appealing than 18 and 19 year olds (saying this as a 19 year old). I find a healthy medium between clothed and unclothed to be perfect in most 'sexy' dances, because it allows the dancer to go for it without the danger of it going too far. Courtney Galiano's outfit in "The Garden" was perfect, and she was incredibly hot in that routine.
  7. Wow, some of the camera work was laughable. In one of the first numbers they cut to a long shot and there was a camera guy and his camera wheeling on through the shot. In some of the street numbers, I could barely tell what was going on with all the shots jumping around. In my opinion, the choreographers should be deciding the camera blocking, or it should at least stay consistent. I don't have much to say about Team Stage apart from that the ballet boys were incredible and the routine with the 3 girls had potential until they took off their jackets and it turned into a porno. Team Street has a lot of potential, but the way they were grouped was plain silly. Why didn't they just have a bboy number, a krump number, a jazz funk/waacking number, etc. ? Mixing their styles up like that just didn't work, and it did nothing to truly showcase the dancers. I also think the street choreographers need to realise that they need more grooving in their routines and less tiny little precision moves that the dancers rarely ever do on beat and don't translate well on camera. The best sections of the Team Street dances all came when the dancers were doing larger and groovier sychronised movements.
  8. I'd love to see Keone and Mari back again this season. As someone who has followed them and their group Cookies (which they just left unfortunately, maybe for the show?) for years now, I know they have so much to offer that the audience hasn't seen yet. I didn't feel like their routines got done any justice and I'd love to see them get to work with competent street dancers. I mean, this would be incredible to be seen done well on the stage: The only problem is that their choreography really needs to be executed well to look good, since it focuses so much on musicality, and not so much on just straight up groove and 'style'. Even their more hard-hitting pieces are still very much about precision.
