Why DO they want Travis? Do we know?

I think angry plane lady said she gave the bad guys their boat's location in return for them taking Travis and giving him to her (apparently because he's the one who put her and burned kid in the dingy).   I have NO idea whether or not that's right.

I'm Just glad poor Randy got a fire started. I used to hear about "banking coals" to keep a fire alive during the night. Is this possible with wood fires? I know nothing about the subject.

Yes, it is certainly possible to bank coals with a wood fire.  The 'coals' are the glowing bits, branches, logs, that are left after the fire goes out.  It has nothing to do, really, with 'coal', as in, actual coal.  If one keeps the fire circle small, as in 2'-3', the earth underneath is heated.   Just push the remainders of the fire (coals) over to one side (protected from the wind) with your fire stick.

Still, Randy has to collect some major firewood.  Seriously.  And he needs to protect it from the constant rain.

I have to admit that I moved him up a notch or two, because at first I just figured he'd tap out like the 'oops! lost my fire' gentleman of last season.   But......he's Randy.  So.............perhaps now that he's got his fire, he can starve in a really spectacular way.  heh.

the Tracy ending was really scary, was there a cougar in with the bears?

From what I saw, it looked like there was a cub along with mama bear, so perhaps Tracy might be a bit close to some sort of trail.  Tracy rocks though, to me.  She just uses her air horn and then the flair, without hysterics.  Was she scared?  Yes.  But no grabbing for the SAT and pushing the button.

One thing I noticed, though.  Was she the one who said that the smoke dissipates the smell when she cooks?  If so, that's not correct.  Our four-legged friends have noses that can differentiate between smoke, and fish (or whatever).  I think she would be wise to cook a bit farther from her shelter.

I don't think there's ever been a case of a mountain lion ripping through a tent in the dark intent on eating the human within.  :)   They are big cats.   Curious, for sure, but not overly aggressive unless the prey (children, dogs) are readily available and they are overly hungry.  There are, seemingly, a disproportionate number of mountain lion attacks reported on 'Alone' compared to the rest of the country.  Perhaps they are over-populated, as it seems all the larger predators are on Vancouver Island must be.

MK went out with a whimper, not a word from her, no goodbye, no "I need to tap out to save my thumb which isn't moving..."

That surprised me, too.   I'm glad they didn't take much time with it.   Blood!  Shaking!  Push button!  Boat!  Done.

One thing I'm curious about. I thought some of them took emergency rations, yet we haven't seen anyone hang a bear bag except for Desmond who tried but failed. You cannot keep that food in your tent. Was Desmond the only one who brought the e-rations? Just another reason to have paracord.

Randy was the only one who didn't choose emergency rations as one of his ten items.

In fact, several of them used 2 of their 10 items on emergency rations.

ETA:  Dried rice and dried beans etc, probably don't give off much *eat me* scent to bears.  I'm sure wolves could care less and mountain lions are just curious.

Here are the food items they could chose as one of their 10 items:

    1. 5 lbs of beef jerky (protein)
    2. 5 lbs of dried pulses/legumes/lentils mix (starch and carbs)
    3. 5 lbs of biltong (protein)
    4. 5 lbs of hard tack military biscuits (carbs/sugars)
    5. 5 lbs of chocolate (Simple/complex sugars)
    6. 5 lbs of pemmican (traditional trail food made from fat and proteins)
    7. 5 lbs of gorp (raisins, m&m’s and peanuts)
    8. 5 lbs of flour (starch/carbs)
    9. 2 lbs of rice or sugar and 1 lb of salt

    :)
