LSSC: Season One All Episodes Talk
thispersonstinks replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in Late Show With Stephen Colbert
I thought the BLT segment was generally mean-spirited, but I think Stephen told Rupert in advance what will be going on (if you see Colbert's behind-the-scenes segments, he does the subject what is coming) and the free chips made the segment easier to digest. I know Stephen needs to get better on interview timing, but it does seem to me he's looser after the new year, which is good. As for the ratings decline, it might be a concern, but I don't think it's a panic move yet. CBS will still make money even with 2 million viewers, but if I were Stephen, the Super Bowl show needs to be more general. He's great at discussing politics and tough subjects, but he's on and off on the fluffy stuff. By the way, The Hello Deli get plasma TVs for menus, but didn't upgrade the register? -

If there was an episode of every emotion, it was last night's show. I like the monologue and the General's appearance. Shepard Fairey was alright. What intrigued me the most was Bill Maher and I knew there was something brewing since Maher looks like he's holding a long grudge that he was the pioneer of "political late night talk shows" and it truly showed. Yes, Stephen did interrupt him a few times, but I think he was saving him to say something outrageous, which Maher has done in several occasions. The Acro-cats is the very definition of a "spectacular fail." -
Bill Maher tonight is going to be very interesting with his comments on Islam recently.

Late Show In The Media

I remember Dave said he didn't want to take away Leno's spotlight on his last show. Leno had a different view. I'm taking Dave's view. http://uproxx.com/tv/2015/10/leno-letterman-final-shows/ -
What I found fascinating were the late 80s/early 90s guest stars like Darius McCrary and Mark-Linn Baker. I might be reading this too much, but are they saying something, in a metaphorical sense, that Jarden was lucky there were no departures, but no one stays lucky that long like those stars?

I thought it was cute as well, but what bothered me the most is why there's a phone next to Jon? Is there a special request for Jon to play? -

There are many things that need to worked out out, but I like Stephen's first week. Already, he has establish a great opening title, great band, a colorful set, the "political" sit-down desk, showing his goofy side and does interviews well with politicians and others. Clearly, his celebrity interviews are his weakest point. I would think it's both Colbert needs to get comfortable about celebrity interviews and that Clooney and Scarlett were not the best guests. If it was Tom Hanks, maybe this discussion would be different. What I actually don't mind is Stephen's "monologue." He has a personal story and is willing to share it, then does one typical monologue joke. It's close to what Craig Ferguson did. In the next few weeks, the guest list resembles something from the Sunday Morning talk shows and some believe this is a ratings killer. It might be, but networks care about revenue. We know Fallon is going to be on top, but if Colbert keeps making money like those "sponsortainment ads" and new companies like YouTube and FX, Colbert has time to experiment to make it a better show. -
A and B, I can watch clips online, or my friends sharing and re-tweeting. C, I'm waiting for anticipation. Knowing that CBS has control of Colbert's show and that he will have sponsors within the show, I want to see how Colbert will do with it. For the summer, I go with E: either sleep or watch old Letterman clips.

The story of how Wahoo, Nebraska was selected for the Home Office of the "Top Ten" List. -
I was about to say Bill gets the last sit down and agree it might be a parade of stars or staff on the last show. The last few weeks have been spectacular with Fey's stripping, Romano's emotional talk, Sandler's song, and sadly, we have 5 more of these. The only thing that worries me is Regis becomes the new Bruno Kirby.

I honestly thought Ferguson would stay since CBS build him a new studio just two years ago, but without Letterman and doing this for 10 years, I think he wanted to move on and I respect him for that. I hope when Celebrity Name Game airs, he gets Geoff and Secretariat on and have Kristen Bell show up a few episodes. As for Ferguson's replacement, anyone is a candidate (except Chelsea. That's how bad her PR was the past month). I like Neil Patrick Harris on the 11:35 slot...but not 12:35. I heard mixed reaction for Aisha Tyler. On the one hand, she has hosted shows and I believe was one of "experiment hosts" with the LLS in 2004 before the gig went to Craig. She can be funny, but the downside is she isn't too funny (from an unscientific poll, i.e. Twitter, comments). Not sure if that's a requirement to be really funny because CBS loves interviews and conversations in their talk shows, so she has a good shot. I can see Amy Schumer, Amy Sedaris, a return (of sorts) of D.L. Hughley or Michael Ian Black, Billy Eichner. Anyone is fair game and more wide open. Now, I wonder CBS will ask Peter Lassally for his recommendation like he did with Letterman when he selected Ferguson?

The Late Show with Stephen Colbert Suggestion Box
thispersonstinks replied to Kromm's topic in The Colbert Report [V]
As alynne mentioned, Letterman still does have comics on the last show of the week. I wouldn't mind Colbert doing a Norton like show, but I wouldn't handle it on a daily basis. If he can do something like it weekly or once a month, I'm ok with that. It was also mention that everyone know somebody in the States, so it wouldn't work for spontaneity. Actually, what I want to see is a comedian being a referee on Colbert's show for a week and tell him how he/she really feels about the show, like Stat Boy on PTI. The person won't sit next to Colbert, but will be watching in their "comedian room" and just analyze. On Friday, the person can perform their act. -

First, I think more writers would be involve on-air. Also, diversify the writers now that Colbert is himself. I'm shocked there was outrage on Colbert because CBS didn't hire a minority or woman. I wouldn't go after CBS on the host since they were looking for the best person in the position, but I would try to pressure Colbert and CBS to hire more diverse writers so Colbert can play around. This one is more subtle but could be potentially funny is, in the Fall, have Stephen Colbert bring a nun to pick NFL games against him, a la Glenn Brenner, You get Colbert's favorites: Catholicism, football, and zaniness.
