My suspicion is that everyone, possibly even JB, thought Josh was in trouble for adult pornography.

Can they possibly be that idiotic? (I know, I know) But surely even the Duggars know that watching adult pornography, on its own, is not a crime. And any adult stuff catching the attention of homeland f'ing security means a crime was committed in its production/distribution and going to be horrific in its own right. That would be of no comfort to me.

    3. I have no sympathy for the Reaver (Reavers?) either.  Maybe they are trying to be good Christians, but it sounds like some arrogance at play to me.  You alone think you’re capable of managing and monitoring someone capable of these atrocities huh?  Because you’re so much closer to God? Good luck with that! People may follow certain religious beliefs with good intentions in the beginning, but extremist beliefs, in any religion, are about nothing more than wanting to feel special and superior. You want to believe you are right, and closer to God, and therefore better, than everyone else with differing beliefs.  I don’t know this Reaver fellow, but that’s the vibe I’m getting. The fact that he’d put his “Christian duty” and fealty to Jim Bob above his wife and daughter’s comfort and safety tells me all I need to know about him.

I realize I'm biased to hell and back but I honestly think the kindest, most Christian, thing to do would be to keep Josh in jail. Granted the Rebers/Revears/??? can't guarantee that on their own but they didn't have to help facilitate his release either. It would be safer for all involved and would give everyone a chance to detox, for lack of a better word, from Josh.

I’m still wondering what he’s been up to the last two years!

This is my biggest question also. Working? (lol) Working out? (lol) Some combination of watching tv/mindless internet surfing/eating/making everyone's life miserable? It one thing to do that combo in your own home, an entirely different thing to do it as a guest, in a situation like Josh's, where at least one member of the household probably has, at the bare minimum, barely disguised contempt/discomfort for your presence.

  3. I'm trying to imagine how I would feel if I committed a far lesser crime (like, financial or something similar) that meant I was released on the condition I had to live with almost strangers while awaiting trial. I would be beyond embarrassed, contrite, and feel like an enormous burden on everyone involved. It might kill me faster than a prison sentence.

If I was Josh's attorney or someone obligated to still care about him (like a parent), my biggest concern is what is this guy going to do with his days? He's not going to pitch in around the house or make himself helpful in any way. He absolutely doesn't strike me as someone who can keep himself busy or entertained in a normal fashion. Given what they found, I would not classify anyone as safe around him. I feel a disaster coming. I dearly hope I'm wrong.

Janelle told about how Meri made them go up and down stairs to get to Christine's over in the Leno house.  That had to be a problem with Janelle working and Christine home babysitting and preparing meals!

No problem for Meri as usual!

In this case, I would be inclined to agree with Meri if not for the line they've peddled about their arrangement: that these women mothered all the children. One scene that has always stood out to me was Meri interrupting Janelle's thoughts on Logan graduating to emphatically state that although Janelle gave birth to him, he was all their boy.

Yes, living in a thru-way is tough. But this is the reality and these are supposed to be children you view as your own. Communicate and put stipulations on the access if you have to like a normal, functioning family. It's not like Janelle and Christine, who were raising kids and regularly hosting each other's broods had much 'privacy' either.

Michael was originally named Michal, for the daughter of Saul in the Bible. However, once they actually read their bibles, they realized that Michal was not a woman of character; she chose the path of the man she loved (King David) over the wishes of her father, ie. she did not adhere to patriarchal rule.

At any rate, Gil and Kelly panicked and went to the courthouse to see what they could do about changing her name. They found out that they could only change/add one letter for no charge. Hence, the added "e" to produce Michael, which is her legal name. I guess Michaella evolved when G&K likely got embarrassed  and frustrated repeatedly explaining why they had a girl with a typical boy's name (yes, I remember Michael Learned from the Waltons).

Anyway, that's the Crib's Notes version.

'Michael' as a girls name is not uncommon or unusual (it was ranked in the US's top 1000 names for girls for a long time) so it's strange to me that they didn't just go with it.

Was it clear who he was talking about at the time?  I could see all the wives wondering who he was talking about at the time.  Hell, even Caleb might have been a little worried at that point, while he thought back to make sure it was Maddie's name on the marriage license.

He was talking about Meri's sister's husband. I want to say his name was Nathan but I'll have to watch that bit again to confirm.

This could have been remedied if he'd started working on what he wanted to say MONTHS ago. And practiced. And practiced, and practiced, and practiced. It's not like he has many other pressing matters to attend to.

This. I am a very anxious public speaker but was asked to do a reading at my sister's wedding. I wanted to do it so I practiced almost daily for about a month beforehand and it helped immensely. I was familiar enough with the words that my nerves didn't short circuit my brain, which is what I think happened to Kody.

She could've had Savannah read a poem or something.  She did seem sad at not being included.

That would have been a lovely idea, especially since she's at an age that is traditionally too old to be a flower girl and too young to be a bridesmaid.

  9. I agree Meri shouldn't have shouted out about the rings. It made the end of their already bizarre ceremony especially awkward and uncomfortable.

It's also why you want a good officiant who has already presided over a lot weddings. At my sister's wedding, her officiant was on top of all these things, even using his experience to help her stage the ceremony so everything went smoothly and without a hitch.

  10. Kody winging the vows was so embarrassing. No one should do that, ever. Even if you think you might be able to pull it off, step back and think: This is a very important day for the bride and groom and do you really want to steal focus when you start flailing? Of course, Kody is Kody and so pleased with his own poop that he thought he could do it and it would come off as charming.

I was sad for Savanah as well but I also realized I don't think we've ever seen a meaningful interaction between her and Maddie on the show before.

Right, and they were quick to use the NICU for Miracle Josie - why didn't they take her home and pray for perfection?  Some part of them must have realized they needed real help.

As an aside, my cousin's grandmother was born in Utah in the late 1800s and later became a doctor, don't know how that happened or if she just called herself a doctor, but anyway, her daughter, my aunt by marriage it was said was born at just over a pound, and they kept her in a shoebox lined with cotton either in or near the oven on low or  pilot light, or what kind of oven, don't know and the father (husband of doctor) fed her whiskey with an eye dropper til she got strong enough for more.  Whether this is true or not it makes a great family story and the aunt grew into a healthy beautiful woman who later gained a million pounds.  These were not religious people.

The Dionne Quintuplets were born two months early in 1934 and were cared for at home using similar methods. They all survived infancy. I find stories like this remarkable.

In an interesting comparison, JFK's son Patrick was born five weeks early, almost thirty years later, and died two days later of infant respiratory distress syndrome, which now has a 10% mortality rate if the gestation age is over 27weeks.

I don't know about the particulars of Derrick's situation but I would guess it was for the long term health of his teeth if nothing else. Just looking at how narrow his face was and how crowded his teeth were, you could tell he should have had major orthodontics work as a kid. I don't have Derrick's issues, but I do have a malocclusion that while not a big deal cosmetically, has resulted in molars that look like those of someone who grinds their teeth (I don't). As an adult surgery is the only option, but I don't want to risk potential side effects like nerve damage, so here I am with 2 crowns and probably more in the future.

Basically, even if it looks like just a cosmetic issue, wonky jaws/teeth always lead to problems, and it's best to correct them as young as possible.

Thank you for your explanation! I had extensive orthodontic work as a kid but nothing related to my palate or jaw. I did have one minor surgery to pull a tooth into the correct spot. Reading about Derick's experience, I now consider myself very lucky that I grew up close to an excellent oral surgeon. I wonder, considering his alarming weight loss and attitude, if Derick considers the surgery worth it.

    Kody's regard for his children:
    A-List: Logan, Hunter, Solomon
    B-List: Mariah, Areola
    C-List: Rest of Jenelle's Children
    D-List: Rest of Robyn's Children
    F-List: Christine's Children

I'd say this is accurate and the wives know it. For example, all of them want a piece of Logan. When Janelle mentioned, in reference to him, it being a milestone to have one of her kids go to college Meri quickly interjected that he may have come out of her, but he was their (meaning the other wives) kid too. It was memorable because I can't imagine her saying the same thing about most of the other kids (Mykelti...), or the other wives about Mariah.

He had three at the time of his death. I don't remember the total logistics.

Wow, there was zero indication of a 3rd wife in that episode. I'd love to know what the story is there, though I suppose it's possible she just didn't want to be filmed.

Ok - help me if I left anyone out of the wreath:

Kody legally married Meri. Her brother was legally married to Janelle. Janelle and Meri's brother divorced and Janelle spiritually married Kody.

Kody's dad was legally married to Kody's mom, called to polygamy,  and then spiritually married somebody else as well as Janelle's mom (after K & J were adults).

Can anyone elaborate on this? Now that I can watch TLC Go I've been working my way through some early Sister Wives episodes again. I just watched one near the beginning of Season 2, where they visit Kody's father's ranch and it was portrayed as if the only two wives were Kody's and Janelle's moms. Was there somebody else they were hiding?
