  1. Sharna is just not one of the better pros IMO. She was given a gift in Charlie White and could not win with him.

She just comes across "harsh" to me, perhaps it is her garish dyed hair.

Agree. I like Sharna and I think she does well with needy or insecure pros, but she's like Tony in that Her choreography is often underwhelming.

I think Nick needed her hand-holding, but I do wonder how he would have danced with someone like Karina or Anna.

  2. Is it editing or is it a persona some of these contestants are putting on to play a part? There is a huge problem with how black women are portrayed on reality television, and there does seem to be a pattern on DWTS. But there are some black women who have escaped that portrayal on the show, which does lead me back to editing vs. persona. It would be harder to edit Tamar in that way if she hadn't given them the clips of her questioning the dance story/set up multiple weeks in a row. Did the producers ask her to give Val a hard time? Or did Tamar go that route to be seen as a bigger personality/thought her presentation would be seen as humorous?

  3. Because he doesn't project the masculine confidence of a super rich heir that Matthew did. Which is odd, because chances are that he's every bit as well off.

Nick historically has had confidence issues - he comes from a dysfunctional family, which we discussed on his thread in more detail.

  4. This girl started out okay, but has gone way over the top. Derek always seems to have some crisis every season that he and his poor put upon contestant have to work through. And shame on her and him for not even knowing about The Jefferson's, a wonderful show. Neither of them has what it takes to do that song well. And of course Golden Boy slid out further than she did at the end drawing attention to himself. Bindi could have been okay with someone else, but not with him.

Are you really expecting a seventeen year old from another country to know about an American television show that aired thirty years before she was born?

I'm thirty, and I could tell you absolutely nothing about The Jeffersons. There's plenty to critique Derek and Bindi for - unfamiliarity with the show isn't one of them, IMO.

  5. Wait are you seriously saying there is not technique to jazz. Please read this, this is just the beginning..... https://twitter.com/ChristinaRicucc/status/644261963246137344

I will really never understand this attitude some fans of this show have that the only type of dance that has technique is ballroom. It's actually backward, quite frankly. It's not done correctly on dwts and it's not a fair representation, which is why I wish they would just leave it out. Because of these kinds of comments. I mean you really, seriously think every single thing you listed, bent knees foot placement hunched back, are not critiqued in jazz dancing as well? When critiqued by people qualified to do so?

Please watch the first dance in this video and tell me again that jazz doesn't have rules? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Y1CIPtRxYo

Can't speak for OP, but my interpretation of her post was that the SHOW has no rules for either genre - and that's why they are generally a big mess.

  6. The post is awful but I can't help but feel a little proud of Jill. Do I want her delivering babies? Not really. But she actually kept after something she was interested in - something educational, at that! She is broadening her mind a little at a time, and Derrick seems to support her in that.

I wonder if we will see her pursue nursing school in a few years.

  7. I think that Joe totally didn't get the "start over" thing. To make it work, you have to start with, "Look, I'm really sorry, can we start over?" If she's receptive, then you say, "Hi, my name is Joe and I'd like to get to know you better" or something like that. You don't stick out your hand and say "My name is Joe". It's out of context and kind of scary. She's got to be wondering if he had some kind of psychotic break or amnesia.

Exactly. It has to be done in a playful and charming sort of way. It was actually a good suggestion - not Ashley's fault Joe's a dead-eyed robot unable to execute it.

  8. My pediatrician told me in no uncertain terms to NOT position my baby on his "feet" at 4 months old...it simply is not good for their leg bones, which are still too tender to even suggest they "stand" on them. These two don't have much common sense; I would think that Jill, having handled so many infant siblings would know what is right.

Pretty much every parent I've ever known has done this, my own included. All legs are fine.

  9. Got suckered into watching the first episode again with a friend trying to catch up. Chris Harrison's glee when Ashley Onion showed up and started talking about the birds cracks me up. You can really tell he enjoys her goofy act. (I do too).

  10. Beauty really is in the eye of the beholder, as I find Jade the prettiest one there. Kardashley could be a contender under all that slap, but that's something we will never know.

I think Jade doesn't come across as exciting on tv, but she's probably charming in real life. And not just to men - Chris's sisters seemed to really like her, too. She's just too low-key to make an impression on tv shows like this.

  11. My preserved lemons turned out great so now I'm on to trying sour cherry chutney. Not sure how fermenting + sour cherries will turn out, as it might be too sour, but I've got my fingers crossed!

  12. Jill looks like she combed her hair!

Her outfit is still frumpy, but who would have guessed that moving away from all the comforts of home would make her take better care of herself?

Perhaps she finally feels free. This distance from her family may have taken a weight off her. Derrick looks a bit better, too.

  13. Off topic, sorry...but last season CH told the contestants where the Bachelor mansion (house, whatever) was and pay a visit when they wanted because there were no rules, so yes, both the contestants and viewers were told that.

He told them that on camera, and he told the girls - not Chris. I guess I'm not being articulate. My point was that when you are the lead, there are rules that production gives you, which may differ from the rules the people competing have to follow. And just because we see something on camera, doesn't mean they weren't told off camera "here are the rules you DO have to follow." If they make these people meet weekly with a shrink, I'm betting there are a lot of rules we aren't privy to that they have follow. Sharleen has even alluded to some of them.

  14. In Kaitlyn's defense, though, all she heard last season was "there are no rules", so I can't really blame her for behaving as though there are no rules.

I doubt she was told that. What the show tells viewers isn't what they tell participants. They are even required to meet with a psychologist throughout filming. I think they have a lot of rules given to them, even if we don't see them.

  15. Hopefully Kaitlyn's edit means ABC will not allow her to do "Dancing With The Stars". I can't imagine a less-liked contestant, though she would bring the drama viewers. Juan Pablo was so hyped to do it, but sabotaged himself badly by the end of his season.

Trista was the only female lead to be on, and though Melissa Rycroft was on DWTS twice, she was only a contestant on Jason's season. And with Jake, Sean and Chris for the male leads, they all had good reputations and fairly uncontroversial seasons.

Hopefully ABC sees getting DWTS as a reward for a good season, as I don't relish the thought of a Kaitlyn Bristowe "redemption" story enacted underneath the hallowed mirror ball.

The sad thing is, I think she might have been a fun DWTS contestant, had this season not gone the way it did. Although her humor is juvenile, she's up for anything and not one to be embarrassed, which is half the problem for people on the show - their inability to let loose and have fun.

DWTS usually does a better job at editing contestants favorably as well, so if she had gone straight from Chris's season to DWTS, I think she'd be far more well-liked, with only some minor irritation at her crass jokes.

  16. With so many kids, a necklace or bracelet would have been better. Something really pretty could have been designed with the help of a jeweler. But I think because his sons-in-law designed rings (or was it only one...I forget!), he thought that he should do the same.

A charm bracelet would have been pretty. My grandmother has one for all thirteen of us grandchildren - a silhouette with our name and date of birth engraved on each. Cute but still tasteful.

  17. I apparently managed to block that viewing experience out entirely. My bad.

I still feel like they will attempt to stoke the religious, family values voting bloc. Have to think a little more critically on who that might be now...

If only one of those Duggars would dance! (Tongue planted firmly in cheek).
