I like Gina Rodriguez, I just think it would be so much better if she and Hannah Simone swapped roles.

    This was a good episode.

I agree! I think Hannah Simone would have been great as Nell.

There is a good reason. Maggie Mull (Martin Mull, who plays Monty, daughter) created Maggie and writes and produces Not Dead Yet

No way!! It's amazing that I could sense that. I don't usually watch shows with a very critical eye for that type of thing. She obviously has a distinct and clear voice in her writing.

  3. The premise of the main character losing their supernatural powers due to a romantic entanglement reminds me of the show Maggie, which ended Season 1 on that cliffhanger and was not renewed.

Do we think Nell really was imagining the ghosts? It seemed to me that they meant for us to think they are real, and not just her imagination. And that they went away when she got back together officially with her ex because that meant she was shutting herslf down, like Edward said.

I feel like the ghosts gave Nell pieces of information she could not have come up with independently, didn't they? I feel like that was at least the case with Monty...

I too didn't quite know what we were to make of Janine eating ribs on her date. But I'd certainly like to think that she decided a man who would be bothered by that wasn't worth her time and that she should just be upfront about who she is. Gregory's seen her eating ribs and still lusts after her, so why should she really take his advice about that seriously? Maurice seemed a bit bemused, but not turned off.

Also, that comment about Maurice obviously having disposable income really got under Gregory's skin. This makes the fourth episode this season where they've had something relating to Gregory's lack of money being an issue for him. I continue to think that they're setting up for him to make some kind of move within the school.

I wonder if it is an indication of her immaturity and lack of dating experience; she dated Tariq since a young age, she probably didn't have a lot of inhibition around him - they grew up together.

Great episode. Had me laughing and agree (on a shallow note) that Tariq is looking good. I do not want him back with Janine, though.

Did he look different to anyone else? Maybe his face is just slimmer, but it caught me off guard for a second.

Really dating myself here, but when my husband and I were trying to figure out who he looked like, our first thought was Micky Dolenz from the pop group The Monkees in the late 60s. But I also see the Jack Black resemblance now that you mention it.

You're right! Even more so than Jack Black, now that you point that out!!

  8. I don't know what it says about me that I was rooting for the Vicar and his family, getting irritated with Janice and the journalist for getting in their way. The way the journalist (her name is escaping me!) chased Mary, was shocked that she used the bread knife, then chased her into traffic - I get it, but I resented her for it. It was a very conflicting story and I agree with the posters who said that if Janice or the Vicar had stopped for a moment to think things through, none of this would have happened. Why couldn't they just destroy the thumb drive? Then it's just her word against theirs. As soon as he lay a hand on her, that was out of the question though.

ETA: can someone explain the ending with Janice and her "husband"???

Yes, so relieved that we've finally checked in with Alan's outside world and that his loved ones are looking for him! I also appreciate that Ezra is realizing his own mistakes while Alan is doing the same thing.

I didn't understand the thing with Ezra and the candies? I really couldn't quite read all those facial expressions and the struggle with getting the carton thing open. What was that supposed to signify?

My uneducated guess was that the candies were not kosher? Maybe signifying that Ezra is re-evaluating what is most important to him (relationship with his father and his family?).

  10. I didn't realize just how claustrophobic this show was making me feel until they expanded the world this episode. It was nice to see Ezra, in real time (not flashbacks). I have to hope that Sam killing his supervisor will be his downfall; this will be the second person close to him in his professional life that has died or gone missing in less than a week.

  11. As I was watching this episode I checked to see how many more until the finale. I really don't understand how they'll fill three more episodes - either he makes it out alive, is kept there forever, or is killed. What else is there to see at this point?

  12. I started to watch this without realizing I had read the book, and about halfway through started having some serious deja vu. It has been a couple of years, but the first episode, at least, seems to follow the book closely and it is amazing to realize how vividly I saw the action in my head when reading the book, because it felt like I had already seen it play out on screen as I was watching it.

  13. I have been watching this show since Ep 1 came out because I kept hearing the comparisons to Parks & Rec, which is my favourite comfort-watch. While I've enjoyed it so far, this episode is the first one to make me laugh (Ava falling off the chair, then asking for a fresh chair). I know all shows take time to find all of the characters' voices, so I'm really looking forward to seeing how all of these characters settle in.

Edited to add: I'd been rewatching Moesha shortly before starting AE, so I was thrilled to see Sheryl Lee Ralph, who has barely aged since the '90s.

My guess is he was a bodyguard for them and was able to pass the verification process on Reddit to do an AMA but knows very little about anything and has exaggerated his importance and knowledge for attention.

By the end, I thought his answers were pretty disappointing and vague, especially after he'd been hyped up the way he had been. Other than porn while driving, which was weirdly specific enough for me to believe, I'm not sure he gave anything new.

Fundie tech guy, meanwhile, was a fucking gold mine earlier this week.

I could believe the porn while driving...a friend of mine was dating a pretty questionable guy back in the mid-2000's and he had an after-market TV installed in his car where the audio system would be and he put some on once and that was the last time I got in his car.

I don't think we will ever really know the reason. He may have been purposely trying to avoid the smug look he had in his previous mug shot?

Not to presume to understand or relate to Josh in ANY WAY, but I smile when I am uncomfortable. That means I often smile at inappropriate times...there is a chance I would smile in a mug shot although I would be extremely distraught if ever arrested.

  16. I had to share this here. I took my son to a hockey camp this evening and they had little gift bags for the moms…full of Plexus samples!!! I have never come across it in real life before - I’ve only heard of it because of JillR. Do I dare try it!?!?

Hi, friends!  I have a quick question:  Where’s Doodlebug?  She used to be quite active on this forum, but I never see her comments anymore, and I’m just wondering… Is she okay?

I've been wondering too! While not an active participant, I've been "lurking" since TWOP days and notice when people disappear!

I’ve thought about this a lot and ultimately I think it is the difference between the shows version of soulmates and the normal idea of soulmates. They were never meant to be together. They chose to be together until the point when they both knew it was time to go their separate ways. On one level it was extremely unsatisfying but it also mirrors real life. Rarely are two people going to grow and evolve at the same rate. There is the nearly inevitable point where one will be forced to let the other go. Personally I loved the point when Eleanor realized she needed to let him go because the consequences of holding on to him would ultimately be painful for them both. Basically transition can suck but pushing against them is usually fighting a losing battle.

I totally agree with that sentiment, but in the setting of the Good Place, I would expect that there would be no pain. I'm saying all of this as an atheist without much exposure to Christian views of Heaven outside of media, so I may be off-base, but I thought it was supposed to be ~perfect in every way~.

  19. I can't wrap my head around the Chidi leaving TGP before Eleanor part...he sees that he is causing her pain (IN THE GOOD PLACE!), offers to stay but seems bummed about it, and then she tells him it's ok to leave. In what "Good Place" would all of this emotional turmoil happen???
