  1. i love Kelli Cass... soft spot as she was our weather girl here at WRGB in Albany. Had a dark blonde/light brown bob at the time and was called Kelli Bolland.  I see what you are saying about her look but all in all it is professional and she is comfortable in it - unlike some others I can think of. She doesn't wear her dresses super tight and 13 inches above her knees like Stephanie does or Anaridis Rodriguez did. I did not like the latter AT ALL.

I like LaRosa alot now... did not when they had her on the morning team with the blond guy that came over from GMA. (sam champion)

I have always liked Paul. Handsome, intelligent, pleasant and professional.

Jen Carfagno, Dr. Postel and Carl Parker are also favs.

Glad they ditched Wake up with Al as that , to me, was one of the worst shows on there evah... Al and Stephanie gah!

Jacqui Jeras and Liana Brackett don't impress me one way or another. They are just there just like Alexander Steele when she fills in.

So sad when Dave Schwartz died. I was a fan since day one.

Like and respect Dr Forbes and I understand his need to cut back due to his age and wanting to semi retire but I can not warm up to Dr. Navarro

I hate AccuWeather. I find it useless.  We get TWC with our marina cable package, so at least we get local on the 8s there. We also use their app - very helpful for local weather and radar.

I follow Reed Timmer on FB who reports for AccuWeather. That is all I know of it, We got DirectTV a few months ago and they have WeatherNation and that isn't bad. At least I get the weather when I want it, like on Sundays when the WC wants to hit me with a marathon of Highway to Hell.

The most interesting bit about the sale is that it was bought in 2008 for $3 billion and Comcast unloaded TWC for $300 million.

I don't get TWC anymore, but I still hope Byron Allen and company run The Weather Channel better than they do their unwatchable, poorly written and acted scripted court shows.

    more weather and less filler.

was horrid a few years back and when NBC was in full control.  I remember when they brought whatshisface over from GMA and they kept saying this morning crew weather forecast was A SHOW ... I want the WEATHER, not a SHOW. I miss shows like Storm Chasers, I believe it was called. Instead we get shows like Three Scientists... then there was that show of the photographer that took landscape pictures all over the world... nice pics but what does that have to do about weather reporting? At the time they weren't even scrolling your local weather at the bottom of your screen. They were losing folks to AccuWeather and WeatherNation and at least started to scroll weather updates on the bottom of the screen while airing this stupid filler shows.

And the tragic part is that if there ever IS a true catastrophe, folks will have totally blown off any attempts by TWC to actually get them to get to safety due to ALL those previous attempts to hype up the odd snowflake falling or leaf falling.

On another note, I see that Byron Allen has BOUGHT this network- so will they become more like Real People?

Maybe he can bring back Vivian Brown and Kim Cunningham and get rid of Stephanie Abrams

Especially now that California isn't even getting part of that Federal disaster relief ...

At the very least, the ERs will be busy treating deep fryer burns, electric carving knife mishaps, and murderous familial mayhem.  Happy Holidays, indeed!   ;-)

I have been seeing the All State Commercial with the exploding deep fryers for Thanksgiving. Guess they are utilizing this time of the season to remind folks they see this happen.

I realize that most of the traffic from this wonderful thread has been diverted to the Shopping Channel Small Talk thread, but I am a creature of habit and not particularly fond of Shopping Channels in general.

So, I must extend my condolences to anyone in SoCal preparing to roast a T-Day turkey during our unseasonable heatwave.  Temps are expected to be in the upper 80s or higher around these parts, and I cannot imagine having an oven roasting turkey for many hours under those conditions.  I'm glad I don't do Thanksgiving (or any other holiday).

Hopefully they aren't deep frying them outside to keep their kitchens cooler... Last thing needed are more wildfires... thanks to exploding deep fryers....

The Weather Channel has become the New York Post for its bullshit sensationalism. I lost most of my respect for the channel once they took it on themselves to name winter storms.

But, dayum, Jim Cantore is fiiiine.

  8. Hello all. Will try to be brief.. also will copy and past to the other small talk forum.. all these new sub forums have me confused to be honest.  Thank you to all of you who have checked in with me. Two days ago we were finally notified that the blood test done for the horrid B-raf defective cancer gene came in. I can only imagine the cost... it was a new blood test done because the previous 4 biopsies from the tumor taken back in July, kept coming back inconclusive. Because Joe's spots on his liver, since the July operation have not shrunken, and even grown  somewhat, I suspected he did infact have this defective gene... and he does. This means treating his cancer has an extremely poor outcome. I am not looking to have a husband for too long, even the thought of going through with our March paid for and planned vacation now seems doubtful. He is terribly sick with the current chemo, he has had 2 treatments and scheduled to do another one on Monday. Another CATScan in a couple of weeks.  Not hopeful in the least based on reading about this, and reading between the lines with his doctor. He had a script to go to Dana Farber again, in Boston for new clinical trials, but when we were there 2 weeks ago, the doctor said they had nothing at the time.  To say I am utterly destroyed would be the understatement of the century. Thank you again for all the messages, it really kept me going.

Cricket, I’m so very sorry to hear your news.  You have friends here, if you need to talk, and you can always PM me.

Is anyone having problems with this site?  Every time I sign on, I have to type in my screen name and password.  I’ve never encountered this before.

Thank you. I tried to PM you, but that was not an option, just to Follow you. Odd. Anyway, thank you very much. I appreciate it

  10. Hello all. I hope the Mods will bear with me since this is definitely off topic. I have “met” several friends here in the last two years, some especially good ones and you know who you are. I thank you for taking time to send me personal messages of encouragement.

We went to Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston yesterday to get another opinion on Joe’s colon cancer. It has spread to his liver with two new spots showing after his surgery done in July. The first two types of chemo, which should have had an effect on it, has not.   We’ve been told it is a very aggressive form, which leads us to think he hold a defective b-raf gene. 3 times a piece of tumor has been sent out, all coming back as inconclusive… of course they bill me $1,500.00 a pop.( Wanna guess when they will get paid?) I have to conclude that he does in fact have this gene which is why he is not responding as expected. Another sample is being sent to a different lab, and blood work for a specialized test that can pick up the defective gene now in blood. Can only imagine how much that will cost me that will never get paid either. At any rate, the specialist in Boston said the doctors here in Glens Falls are doing the correct treatment and he started on a new chemo last Monday, however it is not as strong as the first two. IF it works, they would like to see some shrinkage of the lesions. The hope was to keep it at bay, but it is not curable. Which means, best outlook, about 18 months. He hugged me and cried that he was sorry… which I know refers back to the fact he always refused colonoscopies when I told him he should have one. I cannot tell you how broken I am now. I expected to retire and live to old people together… his father is 94 and his mom is 89 and still in good health. How can this happen to him? This morning he said we need to find a shelter to take our beloved horse that we have had since 1995 – the year my dad died of colon cancer. I could go on and on about how devastated, angry and betrayed I feel but I will spare you all of that.

This is why I have not posted.. my “nv” the other day was just my computer sending something  - some how – on my behalf.

To all of you who have sent us good wishes and prayers, I thank you so very much. I don’t have to tell those here who are cancer survivors, how damn lucky you are and I am so glad you are and wish you continued good health.

  11. Sounds like Chip and Joanna have their priorities correct.. family first. Sounds like they have plenty to keep them busy, their kids are growing and will be needing them more navigate the bad decisions of the world out there, as well as the fact they will continue to rehab, but just not for the world to watch. They can step away from the limelight as it were, and go on. Unlike some of those at the Q....

I like them as a couple, could do with less shiplap!

Wish them well. As with most shows on HGTV... they take a good show and air it till you can't stand it anymore and that is a shame; and all the fault of HGTV because they want to save money and not invest in anything new. And we all know, the garden part of this network has withered and died away. If Roundup worked that well....

My gosh, Kody is so big! I can't believe how fast he is growing.

About MeTV: I love so many of their shows. I'm addicted to Perry Mason!  Love the plots, despite the fact that I know Perry will almost always win his case, and that something totally unrealistic will always happen, like the real killer suddenly standing up in the spectator section of the courtroom and confessing. Also I get a kick out of seeing all those beautiful old cars, elegant women's clothing and the old hairstyles. (Styled by Annabell!  Who the heck was Annabell? I had to Google her. She was Annabell Levy, 1915-1975, a  stylist who worked on many TV shows.) The Perry Mason theme music is so fantastic -- I never tire of hearing it.

I enjoy the old Westerns too, such as Gunsmoke and Wagon Train. I remember watching them when I was a kid. My mother had a big crush on James Arness (Marshall Matt Dillon).

Thank you. i love the older shows more and more. the ones, for the most part anyway, are so poorly written today. They rely on portraying the parents as idiots, the kids as smart alecs & so much of the comedy is forced. JMO

Oh, Kody starts daycare today... just half a day and Joe will pick him up at 1 pm. Don't want him to feel abandoned. LOL I feel like i did when I sent my girls to kindergarten for the first time

LOL thanks, actually I get that all the time and Jenn HATES IT. As I said though, with this stress I've aged fast.

HGTV lost me when they stopped doing any type of gardening shows.  I like only a couple of the shows now - the one with Hillary the designer and I cannot think of the show, sorry, and I occasionally, on Sunday nights, watch people try to buy a beach home or a Caribbean home, just because it makes me forget I have to go to work the next day!

Remember Gardening by the Yard? I absolutely  LOVED this show! His sense of humor just cracked me up.

  14. Thank you all for the tips for cleaning glass top stoves. I use ceramabryte or whatever it is called, and a razor but I think i will try the Weiman's cleaner next. This place is great!

I also agree with many here about HGTV. I used to like shows like Room By Room and Design on a Dime because I could get some neat ideas I could affordably incorporate in my home. Not anymore though! I like Fixer Upper, but it is on way too much now and I am sick of the shiplap everywhere. I do like them as a couple, I feel they are genuine. Just like the Q though, they take a good idea and run it down your throat until you can't stand the sight of it! (IMO). I have to say I still love watching David and Hillary duke it out. I miss Desta and their old crew. That is one show I did not get sick of and seriously, there were few designs if any, of her's I did not like. I think the only time she really would lose out to David were those instances where square footage mattered and she could not give it to them. The only thing that really irks me about that show is how inane some of the homeowners are. You can't get a palace on a dog house budget. I don't know if these people are really that dense, or if the writer's want them to present themselves that way for "drama".

Cricket, I have been wondering about you and Joe.  Good to "see" you.   Any news?

Thank you. The test for the b-raf test failed as they needed more tumor tissue. So we wait.... our oncologist sent an urgent request for additional tissue to sent to the lab doing this genetics test so I hope after all this mental torture, the test will result in him not carrying this genetic fault. The MRI did not pick up on cancer the oncologist said. One small and welcomed miracle. Tonight I have to remove his chemo apparatus... something no spouse should have to do. My heart's with all of you who have had to battle this horrendous disease and are alive here to celebrate another day.
