    * Drizella even talks about dying. I haven't seen a character so marked for death since Charlie from Lost.

I am so dense about anvils like this, but I really hope this isn't foreshadowing. She's one of very few characters I care about this season. I swear, on my death bed I will rail against the lost opportunity with Drizella/Henry (even if he is bland) and the waste of a half season focused on Lucinda and her boring kid.

Overall not a horrible episode if you fast forward through most of it! Can't say much about Regina because I don't care about whatever is going on there, but I surprisingly didn't hate the Hook/Tilly parts of the episode. I expected to be bothered by too much Tilly, but the actress really pulled through. The Alice/Robin parts were also tolerable, although Robin can use some work--they have a nice chemistry, but I'm not sold on the character just yet. Unlike Lucinda/Henry, I'm glad they seem to be moving slowly on this pairing (meaning any declarations of undying love will be at last 2 episodes in).

OMG, the ricos.  The Cubans who fled before Castro took over and have forgotten what a hellhole Cuba was under Batista...  They are possibly the most conservative group in the US and one of the major reasons Florida votes GOP.  They use Cuba's horrid human rights abuses (and Zoey didn't get the memo that Che Guevera isn't a hero anymore) to push it further and further from the US.  That part of her speech rang very true.

I have to say, I've really never heard of conservative Cuban Americans being called "ricos"--they're so many working class people in that category! For anyone curious, the whole Cuban American Democrat vs. Republican thing has roots in the Bay of Pigs, and the Elian Gonzalez issue unfortunately solidified that for a large group of older Cubans, to the point where it may have helped get Bush elected (Lord forgive us). And yeah, what was up with that Che Guevara nonsense? There's no '60s era civil rights figure she could mention? Zoey's Sinaloa comment was also particularly wince-inducing -- if they're going to go there, why not go with Scarface? I'm going to be kind and chalk it up to her lack of real political knowledge or experience, but really show, that's on you.

I'm not Jewish so this isn't coming from personal experience, but it kind of makes me wince when characters dismiss the Jewish experience when Nomi brings it up.

I can't be the only one who finds Luca to be the most annoying human, just slightly ahead of Vivek.

I think my favorite characters are the twins.

The situations were reversed last season when Jackson was being a total dick to everyone, especially April and his mother. He was yelling at April, telling patients about Samuel (which wasn't bad in any way, just OOC for him), stuck in a one-track mind about how to perform the surgery, disappeared/refused to prep for the surgery, getting drunk when he was supposed to be working, giving up on the patient when things got hard... But April knew something was wrong and she dug and pushed until she got to the bottom of it and helped him find resolution. It's a bad look that he can't do the same for her this season.

Jackson can suck an egg if he thinks the way some people defending him want him to think. Just last season, April was the one who accompanied Jackson to Montana to see his dad and was his main source of support, only to never have it spoken of again until it was implied that it wasn't a big deal for him. I think the thing that pisses me off the most is that the show somehow made a good decision story-wise by having Jackson express his concern to Arizona, except instead of that leading to concern by multiple people that would then reach out to April, they dropped Arizona's role completely and had Jackson reach out to his love interest instead of April. His concern seems fleeting. Just enough to not make him a complete asshole, but not enough to be the friend that April needs. Last season, they weren't just exes connected by a daughter, but apparently we're supposed to be that's it for them now? That's the major disappointment for me in this episode, even though Greg Germann's is hilarious and super entertaining.

  4. I wasn't really on the Amy/Jonah train until the tornado kiss. That put me firmly in their camp, but I'm not too upset by the Kelly/Jonah storyline. I don't hate Kelly in the least. She's funny at times and a roadblock who allows others to be funny at other times. The character works for me. I'll enjoy the awkward nonsense until around the end of the season, at which point Amy/Jonah should be together.

Dina was hilarious while proving that people are awful (which they really are!), and I love it when the show brings outsiders into the crazy, like the pastor or Jeff.

Sandra really makes the show for me. She can bring so much hilarious, awkward, insane stuff in a matter of moments. Her confession about researching ways to kill Carol is a definite highlight of the series for me. Carol deserves it! Team Sandra!

  5. So Sarah Drew really showed why she should be staying on until the very end, with Greg Germann playing her love interest. I'm officially on board with this pairing once she, you know, gets sober and healthy and all that. Greg Germann's character seems to be the only one willing to put in some work to get to the bottom of her issues, or that even cares to a larger extent (perhaps because he sees another person in pain, perhaps she's just temporarily caught his attention, whatever it is it's working for me). Arizona would have been a good option, but it seems like that ending scene from a couple weeks ago meant nothing. Jackson, Owen, and she should be working together on some sort of intervention.

Maggie was dumb, but at least she stood up for herself at the end of the episode and made Jackson admit he also felt "undone" by her (which, Jesus Christ, show. Just stop. That "undone" nonsense just made them even more awkward and eye-rolly). I liked the idea of Maggie with Clive because there was an immediate demeanor change when Clive was first introduced. She went right from a super dumb, uncomically awkward, forced Jackson conversation to a more natural walk down the hall with seemingly lively conversation with Clive. When they were together, she looked comfortable and in charge. Watching their scenes didn't make me want to turn off my television. The contrast between that and whatever it is I am being shown with Jaggie is just weird. This is the couple I'm supposed to be rooting for? Why is that again?

Seriously though, Alex's and even Jo's stories were so sad, and then we have to get Maggie's ridiculous, relatively playful storyline shoehorned in. Why again? More "hilarious" awkward scenes that endear her to so few people? Come on, show. We get it.

It feels like Meredith and Cerone's storyline should loom larger in my mind, but I'm kind of just passively paying attention. I get how she couldn't just give Cerone credit because she can't know definitively what happened, it's just shitty and weird for Cerone to put that on her. And so dramatic to just move to another country and give up on her surgical practice!

I never really gave a shit for Jo until this season. Her backstory is crazy, but it totally sounds like an amazing romance novel or Lifetime movie to me. Now all she needs is for the ex to come to the hospital needing her lifesaving skills, and they ride off into the sunset. I'm kind of blah on Alex and her, so I wouldn't mind that one bit.

  6. After this episode, I’m torn between crack shipping April with Owen and April with Greg Germann’s character just because he’s fun. And also so much better than boring intern Roy.

I’m really hoping they didn’t drop Arizona figuring out April has a problem from last week. Or did I miss anything from Arizona this week regarding April?

For whatever reason most Japril fans find it very hard to simply love Japril. They must take unnecessary shots at the character/actress playing his love interest at the time. They did it with Stephanie/Jerrika and now they're doing it with Maggie/Kelly. Everyone can pretend there isn't a pattern but there is. Commenting on what you perceive is a lack of chemistry or simply not liking them because it interferes with your ship is completely different than gauging hotness levels and trying to determine who is too good for who.

Eh, that’s fandom for you. You see it all over the place. I think these comments bothered me mostly because Jackson is not the strongest character at the moment, so he should consider himself lucky that either character would be interested in him, not the other way around, especially not for superficial reasons. He’s so blah! Pretty eyes but not necessarily able to carry an independent storyline the way they’ve written him lately.

I’m still stuck on Clive and Maggie. The actors had good chemistry, and it was cute seeing a non-hospital love interest. Perhaps it couldn’t have worked out in the framework of the show, but they were fun! Maybe he could have been involved in administration or something to keep him around the doctors.

I really wish Greg Germann’s character gets to stay permanently.

Too hot for Maggie but not too hot for April?

    LOL. Okay.

Aw, on international women’s day of all days! I truly think they’re both played by beautiful actresses. But the difference to me is that Jackson and April always had that sexual tension and chemistry, so no matter how April looks (frumpy, conservatively dressed, disheveled, or whatever), you can be guaranteed a hot scene. That kiss between Jackson and Maggie was just meh. Nothing there to me. So much build up all season and that’s it? I just don’t see the vibes that the patient who lost her ear saw (which, I get it show! Stop telling me and start showing me these vibes!).

Clive and Maggie had such a nice connection. I really wish they had kept that up without the wife nonsense.

  9. Gah, I’m really only an every four years hockey fan, but I really felt for the US women because we were hearing about the 20 year gold medal drought from all corners. Players coming back for their third Olympics without having brought home gold must have been going nuts with pressure. Not sure about Canadian coverage, but the pressure to retain gold must have also been overwhelming.

I have to say, I hope the player taking off her silver medal isn’t too much of a kerfuffle in the media. In my opinion, she is an adult (unlike the Swedish player, who was a teenager, right?) and should have left it on despite her disappointment, but it can be noted that this isn’t acceptable and then people can move on. I can see her being villified for a split second decision, but we’ll see how this plays out.

Anyway, what a game! I can’t say I know too much beyond the basics, but my stomach was in knots throughout. I had to switch channels briefly when Canada went up 2-1. Regardless of how you feel about shootouts, the game winning goal was amazing!

I don't think disappointment is bad sportsmanship. If she tries to insult Tessa and Scott then sure, that's bad sportsmanship. I'm sure all of these top teams understand what she's feeling.

Exactly! If she hinted that her coach preferred another team over them or that judging was rigged ;) then I can see the bad sportsmanship call. But the girl had a nip slip on live television, which is now living on the internet, so it’s a nightmare scenario compounded by internet trolls. Good on her for killing it in the FD, hope they come back for another Olympics and get that gold.

Also, don't think Gabby will be winning "Best Sportsmanship" trophies after her cold treatment of Guillaume after the nip slip and her reaction to getting silver.

I’m so confused. She seemed fine! Disappointed, but fine. She’s so goofy and charming on social media, I don’t get how people think she’s so cold.

Considering they were rated higher in PCS than the Shibs, they likely would have gotten bronze without the fall, which is ridiculous considering their program was kind of trashy. YMMV.

Eh, tons of “trashy” programs have won medals. I love their connection and their energy. The timing of the program is also really fascinating when they’re on.

I just find the Shibs so boring and Maia’s line doesn’t work for me (especially in lifts). Their Coldplay trilogy just isn’t my cup of tea!

  14. I’m so confused as to why anyone thinks H/D of all couples would have been conspiracied into a bronze over the Shibs...

This is my nightmare podium and I feel like I’m in bizarro world! The Shibs are so blah to me. H/D are the most exciting thing about US ice dance right now, and I’m so sad for them. P/C are truly transcendent, and I can’t believe the gold medal winner skated to Moulin Rouge. Moulin Rouge, people! Gah.

  15. So it looks like ice dance drama doesn’t end even after you retire from competition! Meryl Davis asked for questions on Instagram and got a couple of V/M fans who took the Tessa & Scott reality show way too seriously. Truly both hilarious and awkward!

  16. And then wasn’t there some sort of talk of Marina favoring Fedor and his partner when they made an ill-fated run as a Russian ice dance team? Or at least pushing them super hard, even though he hadn’t skated competitively in years? God, I love dumb ice dancing drama. Marina needs her own reality show.

Thanks. Honestly, it’s not the most gracious, but also not that awful. They’re disappointed and don’t hide their emotions. I honestly don’t think it’s that big a deal, especially since they have posted a lot with other US skaters and seem to get along fine.

But at least they participated in the Team Event and were there supporting fellow Canadian team members (unlike Hubbell & Donohue who didn't appear at any of the team events to support their fellow Americans).  Someone upthread asked why all the hatred for H/D--this is one of the reasons.  Another reason is the attitude they both showed when the Shibs' SD score came up at Nationals, besting their score. H/D's faces turned extremely ugly.  Oh--and in an interview the other day they referred to V/M and C/P as their "teammates", a Freudian slip if ever there was one!

There was hatred toward H/D before the team event though! They expressed support on social media, but they were away from the village training. And I’d love to see the nationals footage of their expressions, I missed that when I was half paying attention to nationals. Anyone have a link? Just tried YouTube and it didn’t cut away from the Shibs.

Does anyone follow them on social media? It really doesn’t seem like they have any issues with their fellow US skaters.

  19. I was behind on my DVR and had to fast forward through P/C’s program after reading about the wardrobe malfunction via twitter. Poor Gabby! I was really rooting for them. Hope they can put it behind them and just kill it in the free.

Whats with all the H/D hatred? Am I missing something? He’s always seemed super supportive of his partner and his friends (with a dash of deserved arrogance), but she’s always seemed like a sweetheart. Plus, their free is so good. What gives?
