  1. It does make me wonder whether TPTB conduct viewer surveys to see what people think about the HNs.  It is hard to believe that there is a huge demographic that goes, "HELL TO THE YEAH I wanna see em eat slop and sleep on ice cubes!"

But maybe people who only watch the network shows and don't keep up with much else have no idea how disgusting it is.  Apart from the poll questions asking viewers to vote on HN food options, I can't recall much of an emphasis on the HN aspect on CBS once they unveil the room.

  2. Not quite sure what is going on.  The young men, with the exception of Devin, are stripped down for some kind of "best body" competition.  Zach is the emcee.  Ladies are the judges.  Bound to make it on the network show.  It is kind of hard to believe that alcohol isn't involved.

Poor Jocasta looks rough.  Donny and Brittany had to help her walk to the bathroom.

  3. I expected Derrick, given his undercover experience, would be a master at operating a low key game.  His behavior makes me wonder how he kept from getting himself outed when he was in situations where more than money was at stake.  Of course, I don't suppose drug gangs have HOH rooms...

  4.

What it seems to be doing so far though is forcing the two winners to work together.

I watched the feeds for about 30 minutes last night after the live show, and with the exception of Devin (brooding, pacing), the hamsters were chilling together on the sofas, in the kitchen, etc.  I thought about how different this was from last year when everyone went to their opposite corners to cry and bash the others.

That may be what TPTB expected from this group.  Imagine the tension if Elysa and Aaryn had been duel HOHs.  Or if GinaMarie had been a nominee in one duo and Nick on the other?

I prefer watching the majority get along with the crazies peeling off one by one, as seems to be happening this season.  But thus far it has meant we haven't had two HOHs with differing agendas.  I'm just glad a non-BS member is up there.   And that Derrick being on TA should save Donny this week.

  5. Derrick and Caleb are talking in the honeycomb room.   They are plotting to get rid of Devin.  Derrick's plan is to wait and backdoor Devin after the veto ceremony.  On the day of the ceremony, they will tell everyone else to use it with the understanding that Derrick will put Devin up.  If Nichole figures in this convo I missed it.

It doesn't look like Devin is involved in any conversations, he's just kind of walking around.

  6. Well, damn.  Being put on the block for possible eviction is too good for Joey.  She tried to start an ALL-GIRL ALLIANCE!!  Isn't that grounds for summary execution?

  7. Caleb seems to have turned on Amber.  Apparently she said something "bad" about Caleb to Devin and Pao Pao, and Caleb's feelings are hurt.  Devin is being the voice of reason trying to keep Caleb from saying something to Amber and ruining the alliance.  Caleb is saying he will no longer protect her or help her and that "I'm not going to keep acting toward her the way I've been acting."   He later said he's been nicer to Amber than he has been to any girl in the last 4 years.

ETA, apparently Amber said that Caleb "was all about himself."

  8. Hi!  I'm a girl!  I like to talk about my fingernails while the smart boys discuss strategy!   But being dumb helps in one sense.  Sitting around and thinking doesn't seem to be doing Devin any favors.

Donny, Nicole and Christine are also my favorites thus far.  Victoria and Paola are my least favorite among the women.   As for the guys, I like Frankie's smarts and sarcasm in the DR.  Not sure yet about the others.

  9. I can't tell if Caleb is pissed about losing the POV or if this is just his normal demeanor.  He is talking to Frankie.  Caleb said that Amber said he should put up Joey and that Brittany said to put up Devon.

The HOH room decor is horrid and looks smaller.  And given the way clothes are strewn hither and yon, it must not have any closets or drawers.  /sarcasm-off/

Frankie just told Zach that "I'm pretty sure we're backdooring Joey."  The POV challenge involved spelling, so they took a moment to mock her word choice/and or spelling abilities.

  10. I don't know the names of the group that joined last night.  Except Zach.  We hate Zach.  But the woman with three kids has been up eating breakfast.   She then went back into the have not room.  If those aren't solid blocks of ice they are solid something that is cold.  She stood up on one of the beds and there was zero give.  She then got into a bed with another female hamster and they started giggling hysterically about the noise made by those foil-like heat retaining survival blankets.  At least they have a sense of humor.

  11. I think that those of us who love history and historical drama will stick with the show and continue to wish it well.  Unfortunately, the only other person I know who was watching (and who is not a history fan) has dropped out.

This is not PC, but when Rogers and his two companions were walking across a field last night, I was fairly bored, and all I could think was "an Indian, a Scot and a slave walked into a bar..."

  12. I agree with Sarah.  I found this to be a waste of an episode, made worse by the fact that last week's was pretty good.  I really want to like this show.  Nay, I want to love it.  But whoever is in charge of the writing, pacing, whatever, is making it soooo hard.   And I continue to turn back to a book 99% of the time when I see Abraham on my screen.

    How many episodes are left?

  13. Well, damn.  I sat down to "enjoy" a two-hour, season finale worthy episode.  And got this instead.

I need to check with my parents and find out where they got the $1 million that is required to have a baby so that I was born.  Well, that was back in 1960, so maybe it was more like a quarter of a million back then.  Half a million really, since they had to scrounge up the money for my brother as well.

  14. a few years ago I saw an episode of SGT BILKO where Bilko found his great great great uncle Bilko's revolutionary war diary.  The earlier Bilko was an aide to General Washington and it was hilarious.  I looked to see if I could find a you tube video of the Delaware crossing, but alas, I could not.  It turns out that the reason Washington stood was that Bilko had sold tickets for the crossing and he was out of seats when the General arrived.

  15. It is amazing how the convivial presence of Geo. Washington and a good steak (knife) can liven up one's evening.   Loved Stephen Root's character, and I hope, since he's in the credits, that he'll be hanging around more.

Abe continues to be the show's weak link for me.  I don't know if it is the actor or the part, but he isn't as compelling to me as Tallmadge.

  16. Thanks OakGoblinFly.  I should have paid more attention to the date on the headstone.

I have a graduate degree in American History, but my interests were 20th century, then 19th century, with very little time leftover for the 18th.  This series has inspired me to buy the recent Chernow biography on Washington.

  17.

Missus Abe (Mary) just might be getting some from tall blond and handsome British Redcoat living at their house.

I'm also guessing that the Late Lamented Thomas (he of headstone fame) is the father and not the uncle of his namesake.   Abraham doesn't seem to have much interest in bedding Mary.

  18. I like the look of the actor who will probably turn out to be General Washington, who had red hair.   Washington must have had something going for him to have all these men follow him so slavishly over the years.

Speaking of slaves, I couldn't figure out if we were supposed to sympathize with, oh whatever the hell her name is, Alewife is as good as anything.   If we were supposed to sympathize with her argument that it was cruel to free the slaves because they wouldn't be able to care for themselves.  Because, they were like, you know her slaves, and she had a vested interest in keeping them in bondage.  But then it looked like we were supposed to think she was right as the dastardly Brits sent off the young woman to supposed concubinage.

Abraham was slightly more interesting tonight.  Maybe moving him into his dad's house will give him greater opportunity to be pro-active and less opportunity to mope.

  19. I just got MeTV (yay me!) and I was happy to see that one of my favorite episodes is playing on Monday morning -- the one where Katie discovers she is pregnant with triplets.  Gotta love the days before ultrasounds!  I believe the childbirth episode immediately follows and that is another favorite.

I'm really looking forward to seeing the episodes where Steve meets and marries Barbara (even if, as noted above, it introduces Dodie into the mix).   I particularly want to see the episode where Steve and Barbara go on their honeymoon and the young couples at the resort treat them like an old married couple.

  20. At one time or another every British colony had slaves, so I assumed the black workers were enslaved although it is possible that they were free workers.  Despite condoning and promoting slavery in the colonies before the war, after the conflict began the British offered freedom to slaves who would fight against the rebellion.   Maybe if the show lasts long enough it will delve into this issue.  . . .  and according to Wikipedia, as the war went on, the state of NY also offered freedom to slaves who would join the colonial side.
