  1. I was surprised to see Duffy and the soldiers on screen at MI5 headquarters behind Diana and Ingrid. I had assumed it was an off book operation that only a few people would know about.

Lamb telling Standish about Parker seemed like a spontaneous emotional response, the first one I remember seeing from him. I think it was more about his disgust with the service for trying to kill its own agents than Standish’s naïveté about Parker.

Go River for putting the truth before his career. He will never leave Slough House now though.

I was expecting something to happen with Louisa and the diamonds, but I guess that will be a storyline next season.

ok I'm astonished that no one else has mentioned the soup.  SOUP.  AT.  LUNCH.  How is it possible that we made it to the 20th century, let alone the 21st, when the Van Reign's were forced to endure SOUP.  AT.  LUNCH..

Agnes was strengthened by the hardship of having the footman serve her lunch last season so the soup wasn’t as fatal as it might have been.

I am hoping to see her dine at the Russell’s this season. I would love to see her reaction to an unpaired fork and colored glasses.

Yeah, any leak about Turner's former job will blow back more on Turner than it will Bertha.  Her husband will be terribly embarrassed.  Now Bertha has the leverage to get Turner to buy a box at the new opera.  I can't imagine Bertha will be mad at George for long, they are too good together.

The Russell's servants are going to talk.  Turner's secret is already exposed.

Oh, Peggy.  You are going to regret pushing to go to Alabama.  Listen to your mother.

For some reason I don't trust the minister.  I'm starting to think he's actually looking to use Ada as a way to woo Agnes and her money.  Maybe I'm just too cynical and he really does like Ada.

Last season there was a storyline with Ada’s suitor wanting money so I don’t think they will do that again. Plus, this is Robert Sean Leonard so I think the priest/ potential suitor is the real deal.

I agree with Peggy’s mom. Peggy faced prejudice everywhere in New York, but Alabama had lynchings. It is weird to have that storyline in the same show as the Met vs. Academy one.

I don’t think Turner is very smart. She badly misjudged how George would react to her seduction, and she has again failed to recognize the strength of the Russell’s marriage. Bertha is taking her down!

  4. Show whiplash tonight. Last season George threatened to ruin poor Archie Baldwin’s life if he didn’t give up pursuing Gladys. Archie was a nice boy and Gladys was interested in him, but Bertha didn’t think he was good enough. Now George just wants Gladys to have a loving marriage.

I can’t believe Larry would tell his mother he was having sex with the widow. Way too modern. Ironically, I just listened to a podcast interview with Julian Fellows in which he complained about writers making female characters to modern for the time period.

I will think about Agnes tomorrow when I eat my packed lunch at work.

  5. I feel like almost nothing happens in these episodes. It’s taken 7 episodes for everyone to get to this galaxy. I know stuff has happened but mostly it just resets. For example, Hera got into trouble with the Senate, but Leia saves her. Reset. Always nice to see C-3PO though.

They are very sloppy looking.  Dr Emma on Save my Skin always has their wounds neatly and properly dressed with modern day dressings  besides Civil War looking gauze.

I laughed out loud at this! Tonight I watched the episode with  the port-wine stain guy and the pilar cyst country music guy. They both had massive bandages. The pilar cyst guy looked straight out of The Red Badge of Courage with the giant bandage wrapped around the crown of his head to his chin. The other guy I think had a more challenging bandage job because it was the whole side of his face so I am not going to judge.

So, I wasn't the only one saying "just put on a shirt with sleeves!". I get at the gym but not every single minute of the day. Then again, her business.

A shirt with sleeves would cover up the extra boobs, but she still had the problem of them poking out over her bra. I think that could be uncomfortable, and it seems like the extra boobs would get in the way when she moved her arms.

She did not mention this, but sexual relationships could be difficult. Telling someone you have 2 extra boobs would be awkward.

An issue that seems small to someone else can be a big deal to you when you have to live with it. I had a cherry angioma on my leg removed because I would nick it shaving my leg. It would bleed a lot and take forever to stop. So my insurance may have considered it a benign, cosmetic issue, but I didn’t because of the amount of bleeding. Yeah, I could have just stopped shaving my legs and worn pants, but I didn’t want to because it sucks wearing pants in 95 degree plus heat.

So Marrak turned out to be nobody, when that is all people were trying to figure out. Lol

I’m really happy for this outcome.  As is, he was just the tertiary bad guy whose main attribute is being a competent fighter - personally, I don’t think revealing he was actually some other person would’ve added anything of value.  Either he’s someone who’s otherwise not involved with the story, or they would have to spend backstory time explaining him that these shows don’t really have.  Besides, not everything needs to be some big mystery.

I’m glad Marrak did not last long. That spinning lightsaber made me dizzy.

Why is she still seeing patients in the parking lot?

Maybe it’s because of the crew. I imagine it’s a tight squeeze in the room with Dr. Lee, the patient, patient support person and all the people doing cameras, lighting, etc. so they might want to reduce the time with all those people in close quarters.

  10. The photographer said he saw one doctor about his hands and feet then never went to another one. Yet, he spoke like the entire medical community in Brazil was unable to help him. I understand he had a negative experience as a child, but he seemed to have no self-awareness, then Dr. Lee miraculously changed his outlook. I would have liked to have seen more of this important conversation he had with Dr. Lee and less of the first guy saying many times that his life was over if Dr. Lee didn’t help him.

I feel like they are running out of interesting cases so they try to make the backstories more dramatic. Despite what Dr. Lee said about removing a lipoma on the head being tricky, I knew that thing was coming out because we’ve seen her remove similar masses from the head before.

It's weird, because it destroys the illusion, on almost all these types of shows, that the only people in the room are the patient and the doctors and nurses. Of course we know better, but you would think they would edit the question out. Almost seems like sloppiness in editing.

Even high-quality, very expensive shows like The Mandalorian and Game of Thrones have stuff that should be edited out but is missed. So it’s not surprising that this show has things like that too. Honestly, I’m surprised we don’t see more like shots of someone in the background that should be there or continuity errors with people’s clothing.

  12. I don’t know how old Ciri is supposed to be on this show, but the way she is talked to and about makes it seem like she is maybe 14 or 15. However, the actress playing her is 21 and looks like it.

Nick Mohammed shared page 1 of Nate's letter to Ted, and it's really very sweet. I wish they had let Nate SAY some of this aloud, especially to Ted. (And I still wish he had found out that Ted had kept that picture he gave him on a shelf of honor at home.)

Thank you for sharing this. I thought that letter did a good job of showing us that Nate has done some soul-searching and wants to do better. I’m guessing some writer spent a lot of time working on this, then someone else decided not to have a big Nate apology scene. That’s a gosh darn shame. It would have been great to have Nate read a bit of this to Ted, then Ten would say, “Nate, stop. You had me at “dear Ted. Welcome home.”

And let's add to your list of key missing moments:

    • Colin coming out to the team

Colin did come out to the team. There was a big scene about it in the locker room. Ted told the inappropriate story about his friend being a Denver Broncos fan in explanation of why telling a gay person you don’t care about their sexual orientation is not good. But maybe you mean that we didn’t see Colin say, “ I’m gay” after he said Isaac wasn’t because it cut to Roy and Isaac in the boots closet. That was an odd choice. It would have made more sense to switch to switch to Isaac and Roy after Colin said “I’m gay.”

I don’t understand why people think Ted is back with Michelle. They got divorced and we did not see them get back together. Of course Michelle would be at the soccer game as Henry’s mother,  but that doesn’t mean she is back with Ted. I assumed the taxi dropped Ted off at Michelle’s house because he was anxious to see Henry and needed a place to stay for a night or two.

Seriously?? It doesn’t at all. It’s symbolic double casting which is super common in the theatre. I think it’s lovely and suggests that he little girl is somehow related to Rebecca’s soul.

the DNA theory is really taking something symbolic and making it literal. That never works. I love that they did that. It’s like rebecca is destined to be that child’s mother.

You asked a question. You got an answer, and now you are invalidating people’s opinions. You may think it’s lovely, and other people may think it’s weird.

    How *is* it weird?

It is weird because it suggests that Rebecca may be related to either the Dutch guy or his ex girlfriend, assuming the daughter is not adopted. It happens that people who are not related to each other look alike, but the usual reason people look alike is because of shared DNA.

  17. Caroline is a millionaire yet she saves the bread end pieces (aka “knobbies”) in the freezer. That may be the craziest part of this episode for me.

I was hoping the new CEO would be a minor character from a past season like Rhea or the Vaulter guy. I didn’t want Kendall to get it, but I wanted Tom  to be screwed over too.

Mattson saying "Wilkommen!" to Mencken cracked me the fuck up!

My closed captioning gave this as “Välkommen,” which is Swedish so I just assumed it was an appropriate Swedish greeting. However, I could see Mattson making a snarky Nazi reference.

  19. I rewatched this episode, and I can’t believe how much time screen time Nate moping gets while Roy and Keeley getting back together happens offscreen. It feels very unsatisfying. We know what Roy said to Keeley, but I want to know what Keeley said to Roy.

I knew Roy was in the house when Rebecca showed up, if we know one thing about Keeley is that vulnerable Roy is her kink. It does seem like their reunion was a bit rushed but they breakup was dumb in the first place. They were in love, basically living together, she didn’t suddenly stop loving him. She hadn’t been The Independent Woman at all this season, and Roy showing up right then to remind her, that’s all she needed. Maybe I missed it because I was lost in Rebecca’s speech/music, but what did he buy?

Roy bought stationary to write the note to Keeley.

I’m a bit embarrassed to admit this because I know David Hockney is a famous artist, but I thought that drawing was hideous.

  21. I think Nate gets more mumbley every episode. I depend on closed captioning to tell me what he says. Anything with Nate is my least-favorite part of wn episode.

My favorite part of this episode was Sam and Jamie silently arguing over who would get to be captain and Sam giving Jamie the finger. Second favorite was Roy’s dismay that no one defended his non-hairy ass. Another reason for Roy and Keely to get back together.

I'm also glad the show took the stance that Keely did nothing wrong.  I've seen a lot of people say that they aren't judging her, but in today's environment, one should know better.  Yes, you have to be aware of that, but the problem was never in making the video.  The problem was in someone stealing the video.  To me, this is the same as the problem is never that a girl got drunk while wearing a short skirt at a frat party.

I agree the show did an excellent job of addressing some of the things said about women in these situations. I like that Keeley points out the difference between the stolen video and nude pictures she chose to pose for, and Rebecca immediately agrees. Jack should take notes.

The good writing with this storyline makes the Michelle dating their ex-therapist plot even more baffling. How did the same group of writers create  both?
