  1. Well, I hope Tamar never has to hear some of the things that are being said about her in this thread. It's a reality dance show. I guarantee she didn't sign up to get critiqued on her vernacular, business sense, or instinct regarding illnesses.

It's gonna be okay. It's just a show.

    ETA: What's a stup?

I can guarantee you it's way worse on IG and Twitter.

Even though if I'm being honest I never thought I'd read these kind of comments on this message board. A bit disappointing.

  2. This week's episode was awful in my opinion. The show suffers so much without Kristen (and Jake too, for me). There are a lot of things that I KNOW she would have brought up if she were there, that just went unsaid. I like Suri and Darvina fine as people but they were actually insufferable in this episode. Suri has been really bad the last few weeks and with her as the moderator she was much worse. And they pretty much just agreed with each other on everything? Effusive, over the top praise to Mark, Derek, and Sharna and their partners. It was hard to listen to. Like I understand that they're supposed to give their opinions but I thought they must be joking at several points??

I agree, even though Suri was much more forgiving of Tamar than she usually is.

I personally find Darvina borderline insufferable. She says "and what not" and "you know what i mean" SO MUCH. She needs more transitional phrases. Plus having no one there that has any ballroom experience it's just like... if I wanted to hear people's opinions as simply viewers, and not practitioners, I would go to a message board like this one.

  3. I've heard they have trios this week, but presuming Tamar dances this coming week, I'm guessing Val will use Artem?  I know Jenna is his go to for almost everything, but I think it would be stupid to have Tamar dance with another female pro.

He can go a lot of different ways with the trio. I heard another couple is using Peta.

He's used Keo before, so he could go the Keo/Allan route since those 3 seem to have formed a DWTS tour bond. He could very well use Tony.

He's worked with Anna a lot, and Anna gave great advice to Zendaya during the Argentine Tango. Anna's a great performer and could give the advice Tamar needs to improve. Emma and Val also seem to be close.

  4. Plus, Maks, Val, Tony, and now sometimes Sharna and Artem get grouped as "the family" on the boards. (Basically anyone that's friends with a Chmerkovskiy.) It's always had weird Russian mob sounding vibes to me (even though neither Tony nor Sharna are Russian), but it is what it is. It's often a counterpoint to the Houghs (Derek, Julianne, and Mark) and/or the Mormons (Witney, Lindsay, Allison, maaaybe Lacey, etc). (At least, that's my understanding.) So there's that, too. It was the third mirrorball for their group.

    Wow, DWTS is pretty clique-y.

I could totally be wrong, however I believed Lacey left the religion after Benji came out of the closet. I think she had other reasons of leaving that were more specific to her as well, but I'm pretty sure she no longer practices.

  5. Val just announced that he is filling in for Tamar on Friday so clearly he's doing his best to support his partner. Despite all the showmances, be them real or producer-manufactured, I think this is the most we've seen Val dedicate to a partner, rather than the other way around.

  6. Was impressed and surprised that Tamar showed up. I liked how that whole team, Sharna, Val, and Nick seemed to rally around her.

Tamar was also Nick's first choice for the team dance so I think they may get along, besides Tamar being one of stronger dancers this season.

I honestly think Tamar came back for that group number. She didn't want to let her group down, and she comes from a group background (her sisters started as a girl group). Tamar looked like she was either going to hurl or pass out after the dance. I'm not sure if DWTS is worth all of that but she stood by her team so I can only respect that. However she needs to be hooked up to an IV and get some serious rest for the next 3 days at least. No more concerts and The Real Tamar!!!!

  7. Why did she say that her sister was her icon and then not use one of Toni's song for her dance?

If Toni doesn't own the rights to her music then it may not have been cleared in time. Also... can't really think of Toni song that would be good for a Paso, even though the song they did use was an odd choice as well. However... doing a Paso to "Unbreak My Heart" or "You're Making Me Hot" would have been flat out weird.

  8. For the Tamar fans, this is where her schedule gets tricky.  Tamar has concerts Friday, Saturday and Sunday this week.  Friday is in Los Angeles, so that's not a big deal, but she's in Florida on Saturday and Sunday.  Plus they have these duet dances this week and she and Nick are supposed to go to Vegas for their inspiration.  So basically she and Nick have to be done with their duet dance by Friday and she will miss camera blocking on Sunday completely.  Unless she cancels a tour date, which isn't likely.  On top of whatever dance she is doing for her solo number.

What is the concept for this week? What is a duet dance? Thanks!

  9.

    Val:

Still the glazed look in her eyes.  Technically, she's very good. I just can't feel her. I didn't see the lift. But there was one moment near the beginning where Val kissed Tamar on the forehead and she appeared to shrink away from it.  I replayed it from youtube a few times - she already had her skirt in hand, she wasn't reaching for anything.  She just recoiled from a kiss on the forehead.  This partnership just doesn't work IMO. Unfortunate. Scoring was ok. The 10 was a little generous.

You say Val but I'm going to assume you mean Tamar.

Certainly agree to disagree but I by no means saw a recoil, as much as I saw her smiling and kind of blink and nod her head in acknowledgement. Interpretation is subjective but I didn't see a recoil.

Derek is a talented choreographer and Bindi is a good enough dancer that he doesn't need to add all that useless crap like dancing on the floor. I'm not a fan of Derek, because I think he gets too much overt preferential treatment, but I can acknowledge his talent. I just hate it when he choreographs around a dance.

I liked Tamar/Val and Nick/Sharna. On a side note, it really works in Sharna's favor to be the only red head (besides Anna) female pro. She easily stands out in any and all of the pro dances.

Agree to your Derek and Sharna points. I always suspected that Sharna does this on purpose as it's not a natural red but like... a crimson red. She definitely stands out from the Utah crew that's for sure.

  10. Also, I think that there have been a pretty good number of black actors and musicians on the show too. Corbin Bleu, Alfonso, Kyle Massey and Romeo are just a few. The NFL players do best by far, but there have been quite a few black men who are non-atheletes. I do agree that they don't face the same types of editing that black women face though.

I would agree. I think that has a lot to do with how someone can show bias in a narrative. I think the "angry black man" narrative is much more prominent in this country. Therefore there is no hiding that kind of bias in DWTS because it can be very easily identified and challenged by viewers who take offense. However "the angry black woman" narrative is not as prominent and is mostly sensitive for people who have either experienced it or are aware of it general. Therefore this narrative can happen on a show like DWTS because not as many people will pick up on it because they have not experienced it (whether it be personally or seen it somewhere else). I'm not saying this is some sinister plot with every black female contestant on the show with the producers, but they can get away with it more.

  11. I think the baseball season overlaps the two DWTS seasons. They might be able to get someone who is retire, though. They did have the white football player who was with Anna. He did pretty well, as I can recall.

yea i remember him dancing w/ the other football pros during the 200th episode. But i mean... he was definitely the white one in a group of a solid... at least 6 others I feel like lol.

  12. I agree. I'm not black either, but there is no denying how black women are treated on the show. Black men are treated okay on the show, but most of them are football players.

For how popular black football players have been on this show (I loved Jacoby and Karina) I always kind of wondered why there haven't been many white white football players, or latino baseball players.

  13. Hate to say it, but she leaves me cold. She seems to have a high opinion of herself and has an attitude when the judges offer criticism.

Disappointed she wasn't the one who went home tonight.

I fully acknowledge people's personal opinions and I have certainly disliked contestants that seemed to be universally loved (Amy Purdy).

I just think there's a clear bias on this show (whether it be racial bias that is debatable but certainly gender biased as Alek received no such treatment after essentially cursing the judges out for receiving scores he didn't agree with. No one interrupted his interview mid sentence to "scare" the cohost. That was rude IMHO, both Val and Tamar looked annoyed after that) to contestants like Tamar.

It's such an extreme dichotomy, you're either the Bindi's or Sabrina's or Kellie Pickler's or your the Tamar or Nastia or Mya of the season. One of hte few contestants to bridge that gap I think is actually Rumer.

  14. If what tamar said on twitter is true....dwts did her dirty

I believe it full scale 100%. It's the same thing they did to Nastia. They have found something about her that they don't like and are trying blatantly to get her off the show.

And even if the producers didn't prompt her. Apparently confidence is the Scarlet Letter. Where would world class champions be if they didn't believe they were the best. Hell all of these pros believed they were the best at some point or else they wouldn't have competed. This is SO FRUSTRATING. She seemed to get along fine with the team during the pre dance package and yet when the judges were giving their commentary they were CLOSING UP on Tamar's face. They are looking for the moments when Tamar isn't at her best. More than that, they are creating them.

Wait to set her fans up with a package that starts well. Tamar is talking about her growth in dancing. Val is genuinely talking about their growth as partners and Tamar's ability to take critiques and trust him. All of the sudden we get the RANDOM clip of her saying that she's the best.... ummm what?? That was so out of no where it seemed shoehorned in their just for the producers to make the audience feel some kind of way before she danced. It's almost insulting that the producers are doing this again. This is coming from someone who wasn't a huge fan of Nastia's but can full admit that the producers manufactured all her drama.

I hope all commentary, including Afterbuzz and Previously TV's, will include an acknowledgement of her tweet as well as a clear manipulation of the audience to get her off the show.

  15. Happy to see Val and Tamar posting about each other on social media. I know it's arbitrary but it just makes me feel like they get along in their dance partnership. Also the Zendaya All Access interview during switch-up week and she said she'd want Tamar as her partner. So I guess she is getting along w/ his former partners as well. All of Val's former partners seem to be pretty close which is kind of funny.

Also saw this picture on instagram https://instagram.com/p/9O280Ly2-e/?taken-by=tamarshedidthat

Wish DWTS would show more of this side of her w/ the other contestants.

  16. I really liked what Afterbuzz had to say her. That one lady, Suri has made it quite clear all season she doesn't like Tamar so it's no surprise from her. However Shirley made a great point about how competitive people, or more specifically competitive women are painted on the show. It's all editing, and the way the producers made it seem like she abandoned Val for two days when she clearly had to rehearse in order to get that choreo down shows how the producers are biased on the show. I've always liked it when Shirley Ballas was a host and think she should be a guest judge on the show.

  17. Overall was highly impressed w/ the show and thought the right person went home considering where the competition is at this point.

One though, I highly doubt that Janet Jackson, or even Tamar Braxton, believes that Rhythm Nation was created for one day Tamar to perform lol. I get the compliment but what a hyperbolic thing to say.

  18. This is a stretch... I'm sure she doesn't mean it in the way where he's yelling at her in an aggressive or threatening way. She'd never take that and neither would Vince. Their rehearsal packages would be way more negative, Nene and Tony like than playful fighting. I think we need to calm down with the wild speculation. If you expect, or desire to have people give Tamar the benefit of the doubt when it comes to how she's perceived, then we should do the same for Val. Val's not a "bully" and Tamar is not an "angry black woman", let's just leave it at that.

  19. Well Val just confirmed that they have something special for us on Monday... If they get the last dance of the show we'll definitely know it's something good.

  20. Tamar unfollowed Val??? Oh Lord, that seriously can't be good. Apparently Tamar is on sick leave and even missed a performance she has tonight at Madison Square Garden (unbeknownst to her fans who are not quite happy they bought tickets to a concert that she's not performing). Their performance may not be very good due to her sickness and lack of practice time.

    In response to

But viewer perception is definitely being affected by either the scripts/edits and/or her relationship to Val, which might be fine, but it's definitely doesn't seem the same as many of his relationships with former partners. One of my good friends who is a devoted Val fan told me he has usually posted lots of photos on IG of his partners during former seasons, but is posting very few of Tamar. It doesn't have to mean anything, but it doesn't help from the crazy fandom perspective.

At my friend's request, I looked through comments on both Val's and Tamar's IG and YouTube videos. She is getting some pretty harsh treatment in all three places and from her response, I think she's hurt. Many of the worst attacks are coming from the usual place, but also from Val fans who don't like how she treats Val, as if they have a way of actually knowing.

Val fans are usually pretty divisive honestly. They very much have camps as to which partner they have preferred for Val and his comments often erupt into who was better. You'll still some comments about Zendaya and Janel on his pictures that have nothing to do w/ either of them or the show.

It saddens me that they are not getting along as they seemed to get along in the beginning (if of course any of this is true). Maybe Tamar got a little jealous of the pre-package and feedback he received when he was with Bindi. Of course speculation but I can see why that would happen.

  21. So I just read the dances for Monday's episode and it's an interesting concept but a few things have me going "hmmmm..."

I don't know if the songs and dances have been revealed yet on the boards so I'll put it in as a spoiler.

Hmmmmm #1: Paula and Louis doing "Vogue" by Madonna. I love this song, I love the choreography. This is truly an iconic everything. The fact that Paula is dancing it ... there's just no way she can do it any justice.

Carlos and Whitney dancing Ginuwine's "Pony". That song is super sexual, hence why it was in Magic Mike. Plus wasn't Channing Tatum alone during that scene? I can't remember what he danced to w/ Twitch at the end but I wonder how and if they're going to tone down the choreography for the show.

Alexa and Mark doing I'm A Slave for You, specifically Britney's VMA snake performance. I actually think Alexa can rock this I'm excited to see how this looks. I wonder if Mark will be dancing with her or he'll be more like a background dancer

Tamar and Val doing Janet's Rhythm Nation. This can be good for Tamar since the choreo in this video is very militant. The facial expressions should be fairly stern. Val's jazz choreo has been inconsistent in the past (Rumer's Bootylicious) but I think the vibe of Rhythm Nation is more his speed.

  22. I would just like to point out that besides commenting on the fact he thought Tamar did well in the switch-up week dance, Val has not said a word about being back with Tamar, or looking forward to being back with Tamar but is still posting or retweeting about Bindi as of last night... Just sayin. Maybe we just have to concede that this is not a succesfull partnership. However since they are both professionals (Tamar is for sure a perfectionist and many arguments she's had w/ her sisters have been about her perfectionism) hopefully they can still produce quality performances.

Oh and I think rolling your eyes in jest and rolling your eyes with the intention or disrespecting or belittling someone are two different things.

Edited to include this thank you message: I find it refreshing to have an honest talk about race, gender roles, or generally "heavy issues" in a way where people can state their POV in a mature and thoughtful way. Thanks guys for making something seemingly trivial like a dance competition be a pathway for deeper discussions.
