  1. I know you are a professional musician and you hate the music that the Pussycats play but seriously Josie's dad. Just walking out on your kid?

The mayor character is what I'd actually think Robin Givens character from Head of the Class would be. (I'm old, it was appointment TV for me) It makes me really disappointed in Dylan McKay though.

  2. This is a subject that will never change anyone's mind. The people who want to give them a break will, the people who want them to step up, will be disappointed.  They are quite lucky that the Queen and Philip have been so long lived and it really hasn't been an issue.

    God Save The Queen

I am of the view that Camilla will be Queen Consort. Anyone who still "hates" her hasn't been paying attention. She has been so good for Charles and the Monarchy in generaL.

I agree that Charles will not abdicate. But I do wonder does the public really have favorable opinions of William & Kate? There have been articles about their lack of work ethic and other not so glowing articles lately about them. I guess compared to Charles & Camille the public does probably view William & Kate favorably. But I can't say either William or Kate have impressed me.

I love you. It isn't very often you see people not completely enamored with William and Catherine. Its almost like the days back when people were very hard on people who thought Charles' first marriage might not work because of the age difference or that Sarah might not fit with royal duty because she was very flighty. In terms of William and Catherine, yes, they are pretty but IMO they do need to start stepping up. Especially if Charles' rumoured plans to shrink working royals to him and his heirs. Whomever Harry marries will have to hop right into duty right away too.

  4. I'm a tad confused on ages. Are Cherry and Jason the same age as Betty and the gang? Seems like it with Cheryl hanging out with them. But then againg, she is the head cheerleader and he was the captain of the football team (and dating older sister Polly) so they are/were older?

Then you have Victoria, who was the only child of the fourth son in a family full of what you'd expect were strong, fertile men who were probably expected to have many legitimate children too. Except they didn't, or they did and those children didn't outlive their parents.

And of course we have Elizabeth II, who was the daughter of a second son and no one seriously thought she'd be Queen when she had a living Uncle with many years ahead of him to produce heirs.

For a country that has had, as it is quite charmingly acknowledged, a lot of luck with their Queens, they sure didn't seem to see many of them coming.

Back in the day, I wanted to put money down on us seeing a King Henry IX because first sons don't have the best track record.

It sounds like former kings and queens were quite well educated -- I wonder what changed? Would a male heir have received the same education, or more?

Most of the younger crop of royals have higher educations. King Felipe VI of Spain has a law degree and a Master of Science in Foreign Service from Georgetown. King Philippe of Belgium has a MA in political science from Stanford. King Wilem-Alexander of Netherlands has his Masters in History. All of their wives have advanced degrees but they were all not born royal. I would expect their heirs (all girls 11, 13 & 15) to get good educations.

  7. I hope Pancho has skills in other areas because he is not a natural pageant director....

Piper needs to take a few years off to get through puberty.

Do they give a pronunciation guide to the announcer because if I were just handed a paper with Selyse on it I wouldn't get it right. (Or is it some name I've never heard before?

I think it was telling that Cambrie said Kim needs to put work into Selyse but Jamie says she needs to put money in.

I liked Halee.  she was a kid I could hang with. (I teach before and after school day care) I have the chair and a half there goes with Elishia's couch from last week.

  8. The Crown club used to be all boys and Victoria but with the abdications in the Netherlands, Belgium, and Spain there are lots of girl members now with others coming up in Norway and hopefully Japan (if they get their heads out of the 1300s) I know the royal families are all friendly so there is a lot of support for the next generations.

Queen Margarethe of Denmark and former Queen, now Princess Beatrix of the Netherland are apparently as close as ones can be because very few people have the Queen experience.

  9. Bringing this over from Gloriana.

    Quote

Surely public attitudes about gender roles (and especially names) have changed somewhat in the past sixty years, though.

Could someone in Philip's position nowadays be equally macho about these things? Sure. But I wouldn't say that any guy going through this today would be just as frustrated.

Over in Sweden there is a guy pretty much in Philip's position, Daniel Westling. He was a total commoner who was a personal trainer and owned 3 gyms when he met Crown Princess Victoria in 2001. He was her personal trainer. He had to step down from his businesses before they got married in 2010 and one of the reasons it took so long to get married was because Victoria wanted him to be sure about giving up his independence. He is now Prince Daniel and added Bernadotte (the royal family's last name) to his official name. ( Olof Daniel Westling Bernadotte) Their children are Princess Estelle and Prince Oscar. (and I can still gush over their wedding)

  10. I suppose everyone will come to the show with preconceived notions of the different real life people being portrayed and would be either happy or disappointed about it. The Elizabeth we are seeing reads real to what I know. So do Margaret and David. I'm not too sure about Philip. I think it's a bit too sulky but that's me. when we get to the 80s and Diana I will have LOTS of feels. (I personally can't stand the woman)

  11. Whenever CNN sends in Anderson Cooper to cover a royal.  story I wait for him to mention his royal connection story.  Back in the day, the Prince of Wales was "dating" Thelma, Lady Furness. She was of course married and American. Her twin sister Gloria had the Little Gloria Vanderbilt custody case going on so Thelma asked her good friend Wallis to babysit her boyfriend while she went to New York for moral support. That worked out well...

  12. Sorry. Semantics count.

There was a nice documentary about him. He had his own household and was known but set to the side. The Duke of Windsor was predictably horrible about him in letters. Princeven John The Windsor's Tragic Secret
