  1. Looool, I get that. I really do. But if you like something harder, there are still lots of good modern artists who are harder... Shinedown, AFI, Against Me!... I'm just saying, if somebody wants to like modern country, fine, but it is NOT the only option for people who like rock music.
  2. I grew up in the 70s and totally love rock/punk/heavy metal, and I'm not sure where some of you live or what your local radio is like, but it's not true at all that if you like rock, your only alternative now is to listen to country. There's lots of GREAT rock music still around. Muse, Coldplay, Pearl Jam are still going strong, Arctic Monkeys. I can't stand modern country. Tom Petty said it best. Modern country is just really bad classic rock with fiddles. Of course there are exceptions (I think Kacey Musgraves is pretty great, and I am not generally a big fan of female singers). I haven't been commenting too much on the show because I have such a strong personal bias towards Chris (he's my hometown boy, and his keyboard player is my friend's cousin) but I just think Craig is so bland. I thought he was awesome in his blind but for the most part, he just faded after that. I like Matt but I didn't like his original song at all, I thought it was overproduced and overwrought. I LOVE Velvet, it has a total 80s Michael Jackson groove yet still feels current. And I wish Damien were more current, because he has such a lovely voice and seems like such a genuinely lovely person.
  3. Am I the only one who was anoyed to the point of being offended by Team Blake's song (the performance, not the song itself)? I mean, I know that most ot these contestants weren't old enough to live through the Reagan/Thatcher years and therefore have no idea what "Life in a Northern Town" really means, but they obviously are too clueless to learn a little about not-so-ancient American history, because CWB was the only one who seemed to get that this is a song about people losing their livelihoods and everything they owned, not about partying up north on a Saturday night (disclaimer: I am from Pittsburgh and this song means the world to me because I LIVED IT).
  4. Also, rooting hard and heavy for Taylor Hat Three Names and Chris. Hat Taylor is my favorite, but Chris is in a band with my friend's cousin and is from my hometown, so I'm kind of loving him in a completely biased way.
  5. I'm pretty cool with the results with a couple of glaring exceptions. Really, Blake? Jessie? I don't get her at all. I see twenty girls at karaoke every week who are better than she is. And it didn't surprise me that Pharrell chose Sugar, but I cannot stand her. Something about her personally just rubs me the wrong way. I lived in LA when I was in my 20s and I knew so many kids who were the children of moderately successful artists and they all had this... thing about them. This thing that was kind of snotty and upleasant. She reminds me of all of them. I know everybody hates Jean because of her reported behavior during the blind auditions but I'm a Jean fan. I'm sorry to see her gone.
