  1. Haha, cpcathy, I brought my sister-in-law, who doesn't watch movies very often, to see Sweeny Todd. She knew nothing about it. When Johnny Depp started to sing, I caught the expression on her face out of the corner of my eye. I thought, "Should I tell her now that this will happen more than periodically throughout the movie?" It caught her by surprise, but we both ended up liking it. One of my favorites.

  2. Ugh! I would like to go back in time and slap the person who first conceived of the "Character Comes Back From the Dead" plot contrivance. It is so utterly and completely overdone. How totally uncreative! I don't even know why people on soaps even bother going to funerals or mourning the dead at this point. Character A vanishes? Eh, just mark the calendar for about 18 months down the road, and he or she is bound to return. Takes all of the emotion and suspense out of everything, kind of like watching How I Met Your Mother reruns after knowing how it ends. The fact that Luke or Laura looked remotely shocked at Frank's reincarnation is even more ridiculous. Don't they pay attention to the goings on in this town?

Also, Kiki looks like a perfect blend of Alicia Silverstone and Brittany Murphy. Looking at her makes me want to go watch Clueless.

  3. I agree with a lot of these comments. I liked the book up until the ending. The artificial insemination was just a bit too much for me to handle (perhaps because someone very close to me has gone through several rounds of IVF, and it isn't just as simple as fill a turkey baster up with the guy's junk).

I have to say that all of the comments of Nick being kind of a douchey, asshole, frat-boy type and Ben Affleck being PERFECT for this role has me feeling a little bad for BA. lol

  4. Going back to the beginning and watching seasons that I can watch for free on Amazon Prime, which starts with Season 3 (Africa). For some reason, I never watched it. Saw and loved the first two seasons, but never watched Africa (someone mentioned its airing so soon after 9/11, which may have something to do with it). It's weird already knowing who won, plus knowing some of the players from All-Stars before having seen them on their first season. My son and I are two episodes in, and so far we are liking it. I forgot how much time they devoted early on to the actual SURVIVAL aspect of the game. You really got the sense that some of those players could easily drop dead at any minute, as opposed to the most recent seasons where people seemed to actually be GAINING weight. Poor Diane in episode 1 looked like she wasn't going to make it.

  5. I just watched Rumer and Val's foxtrot again, and the thing I loved is that Val started smiling -- BIG -- early on, and then at one point when he and Rumer make eye contact, SHE starts smiling, too. I love this partnership this season. And I love that they didn't try to make a big showmance out of it. I, personally, think Rumer is stunning when she smiles. She's one of those people who smiles with her whole face, including her eyes.

  6. Heh. Watching it again because it was so fun the first time. I missed before BOTH Jeff's and Sierra's reactions when Dan asked if a letter was a "W" or an "M." Jeff was all, "Can't help ya, dude," while Sierra practically rolled her eyes right onto the field and grabbed it from him, saying, "It's a 'W.'" For some reason, it struck me as really funny.

  7. I couldn't get past the first part when he said something like he wanted to show that a "hero" could win this game. Puh-lease!!!

  8. I don't read Sol as thinking himself as a victim. I read him as terribly conflicted between looking forward to his new life and mourning the end of his relationship with Frankie. They seemed to have the more solid of the two marriages, and I think he feels very badly that he hurt her. And, given that they seem to be very close (if not best friends), when she is hurt, he is used to being the one who comforts and consoles her. I can see that being a very confusing situation for all involved. I think it's also a very interesting dynamic that he cheated on her with another man, as opposed to a woman. Everyone has mentioned (and it is addressed in a future episode) that attitudes and feelings would be very different if that were the case.

  9. You know what I would love? The *entire* cast of Borneo on at the same time to play again. Obviously, that won't ever happen (and I doubt Sue would ever agree to be in the same STATE again with Richard, let alone be stranded on an island with him), but I think it would be fun to watch the original players' dynamics change with a second (and in some cases, third) chance.
