Probably a month at most?  The letter is dated August 29, 2023 and it's still supposed to be 2023.  The leaves in the area are all green, so at the latest it's pretty early in the fall.

Given how the remains of the food on the table had only just started to mould ( it looked like) I'd say about 2 weeks? Maybe but yeah a month at most

  2. There's been a really good breakdown of the opening credits here on Twitter: Corlys Velaryon is black deal with it on Twitter: "The #HOTD opening is a Targaryen family tree/bloodline represented on King Viserys' Valyria model/diorama. What an amazing concept design. The tree obviously starts with Aegon the Conqueror himself. Here you can see the Doom of Valyria represented in his circle and his crown: https://t.co/g0PYyW4QWA" / Twitter

and on Reddit here: House of the Dragon - Game of Thrones HBO Original (reddit.com)

I know a king being married to a child was not unusual in Medieval society, but even in this case they had to see waiting for Laena to grow up was a bad idea.  Who is to say Viserys would still be alive in two years to beget an heir?  (That infected finger looked pretty bad.)  Who is to say Laena would conceive and carry a child successfully at 14 or 15?  Who is to say that child would be male or healthy enough to survive?  Alicent is only a slightly better choice because she's already 15ish, but Viserys and the council should have been looking for a mature widow who already proved herself to be fertile.  (Marie deGuise or Eleanor of Aquitaine.)

I liked Daemon's girlfriend's reaction to marriage and childbearing.  Oh, hell no.

Rhaenyra is impetuous but way smarter than her dad (who really is weak).

Makes me laugh whenever I see this.

We saw her at the tournament last week.  I thought she looked even younger than 12.

The Iron Throne is killing him by bits.

I loved hearing the GoT theme and like the idea of the visuals accompanying it, but on GoT the symbols that popped up were significant.  We got a perspective of the geography of Westeros and where all the families were located.  The symbols on the gears of this opening sequence don't mean anything to us yet.

Isn't it supposed to represent the Targ family tree?

Yeah there was definitely some weird incest vibes going on there. I really hope that's not where this goes, but considering we just got done with an Aunt/Nephew relationship in GOT, I shouldn't be surprised if this time we get an Uncle/Niece incestuous relationship.

Oh God, I'd forgotten about Shae, but your comparison is apt. I hope Shae 1.0 isn't as annoying as original Shae. And was she on the back of the dragon with Daemon when he flew out of King's Landing? The CG was kind of iffy in that scene but I thought I saw a white cloak flapping in the wind.

Someone asked which "Dracarys" we prefer. Until I hear Rhaenyra say it again or any other dragon rider say it, I have to go with Dany's Dracarys - it was the first and it's iconic. I'm still bitter Jon Snow never got to say it.

The last name Hightower sounds familiar but I can't remember if there was a Hightower in GOT. Was there?

That appeared to be Daemon's *wife* Lady Rhea Royce and if that was then they were at Runestone

OK, this is probably not going to be a popular opinion, but I'm still okay with Otto. His advice to the king was consistently good, and he was willing to put his neck out there insulting the king's own brother. The part where he tries to set up his teenaged daughter with the king, though? In modern society, I agree that is a creepy move. But in a society where she's going to be married to somebody anyway? And money and power are expected to be major factors in that decision? Well, the king is pretty rich and powerful. And, except for that one thing that happened at the very very end, he seemed to be in an actual loving relationship with his first wife, so it's unlikely he'd suddenly turn cruel toward the second one. Also, he's getting up there in years, so she won't have to bang him for that long anyway. And she might even be able to convince him to buy a better quality shaving razor. Within the admittedly lamentable restrictions of a patriarchal pseudomedieval society, it's a winning plan.

Agree with all of this Viserys seemed to adore his wife and had real affection for her, so frankly Alicent would be in very good place if she did get married to him. How Rhaenya feels about it should that happen however....

  6. Reva also *didn't* want him there to help her take down Anakin/Vader. She didn't trust that he could make the call to end him. She placed him in the bunker (un)secured precisely so that he could flee. I think it was always her plan that she would be standing alone to (in her mind) make the killing blow.

I can’t help but watch those flashback scenes and think they would have made the perfect introduction to their characters in AOTC. Like after it is suggested that Padme be guarded by a friend instead of specifically naming Obi Wan and Anakin, they cut to them sparring with each other. They show so much of their dynamic in such a little amount of time.

The message was a bad idea by Bail but as others have stated the last he heard they were supposed to be on their way at least a day or two ago. Now he has to assume things have gone wrong and that it is two dangerous for Obi Wan to communicate or even try to get to Alderaan. I think Bail sees this as letting Obi Wan know to stay hidden as long as needed to keep Leia safe and is assuring Obi Wan that Luke will be taken care of.

So I am wondering now how all this is going to end? He is on a ship with no good hyperdrive being chased by Vader. He needs to get Leia back to Alderaan. Then there is Reva with the information bout Luke so he has to get to her before she gets to Luke. This all needs to be done in one more episode.

Waaaaaait  a second. Wasn't the whole reason that Padme's ship had to land on Tatooine because they had a damaged hyperdrive?

And with the whole theory that's going around on twitter that the episodes are paralleling Episodes 1-VI, and given that Episode VI starts on Tatooine could we a return to Tatooine for not just Reva, to get Luke but also for Leia?

  8. The fact that Obi-Wan couldn't answer Reva when she asks him if they want the same thing. If Obi-Wan truly wants to kill Anakin is heart-breaking to me. After all of this, he can't say that he wants to.

I don’t know they did it, but despite what we’ve seen in Reva to date, I felt sadness when she fell to Vader…

    …but did she?

    What of — Owen — the boy — ?

Also, as much as I’ve mocked Hayden Christensen’s portrayal of Anakin over the years, it was great to see him again. Too bad Obi-Wan’s training seemed to consist mostly of saying “you’re really lacking, you’ll be better when you fix that.”

    RIP Tala Durith.

I wish we had gotten a Clone Wars flashback, but I was glad to see that there was a reason they hyped up bringing back Hayden, and maybe it's just Ewan and Hayden's happiness at getting to work together again bleeding through but there seemed to be genuine fondness and a deep bond between the two.

Also the (Original) Grand Inquisitor had two stomachs and that's presumably how he survived, how the hell does Reva survive?

And nooooooo Tala!!!! I was hoping she'd survive 😭 😭😭 Her and Obi-Wan would have made such a cute couple!

Power and safety? In an earlier episode it is said she was found scavenging on the streets. She was a child who no longer knew her family who was suddenly on her on with no way to support herself.

Is this referring to the line "you came to us from the gutter"? Or some other instance? Because seeing as that comes from the Grand Inquisitor, it might just be a reference to  her being a youngling ( and the Inquisitors hate the Jedi) as she also says she had a droid once and I don't think someone who was a scavenger would necessarily have a droid for too long

  11. Okay so after watching this episode Reva is *definitely* one of the younglings that escaped in the flashback in the first ep. Her reaction with she sees the Jedi symbol carved into the wall of the droid maintenance facility clinched it for me. It would explain why the other inquisitors have distain for her as well if she was a Jedi youngling

Obi-Wan slip of the tongue when he called "Leia" by her actual name and not the pseudonym was painful to see though, he did cover it well and then they had a another conversation about Padme, and how Obi-Wan wishes he was her father. They talked about how the Jedi were his family and that reminds you there's a reason Obi-Wan is so broken right now. He's lost everyone he has ever loved and to make matters worse the fight keeps calling to him but he's not ready to jump in just yet.

When Obi-Wan "saw" Anakin near the beginning, I must say that Hayden radiated a sense of menace and....coldness, and at the end Vader placing him into the flames so that Obi-Wan could feel what he had felt all those years ago just *cries*

So Reva told Vader and the others that it was Kenobi who killed the GI? That makes sense.

But now little Leia is in so much trouble!!!!

@Bill1978 The Quinlan I assume they're referring to is Quinlan Vos : https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Quinlan_Vos another Jedi who also survived Order 66

Oh now that’s very interesting.  So he doesn’t know that Anakin is Vader at this point.

I think he does. Didn't he watch the footage of Anakin being anointed Vader by Palatine in his chambers? And

in episode 2 he clearly recognised the name. I just think he assumes Anakin died on Mustafar

I am really confused. That was what they were implying right? She had fire-starting powers now? (unless she got her hands on more chemicals)

Seriously! She’s been sidelined since Day Fucking One of Winter Soldier and now this?! And even worse, from what I saw her in the Black Widow trailer,  they stole her white catsuit and gave it to Natasha!

I think instead of "stealing" Sharon's white catsuit and giving it to Natasha, the white outfit is actually a reference to her white outift in Black Widow: Deadly Origin, which came out around the time that she made her debut in Iron Man 2.  Which makes sense that because in that comic book she's confronting the skeletons in her closet which would fit with the whole "I'm done running  from my past" thing she's got going on.

Not to mention the difficulty in trying to get tech support for that robotic arm back in those days.

In the comics Wakanda were the ones who gifted Steve with the Shield. Not to mention in the What IF episode they apparently have early versions of the Iron Man Suits, and the Valkyrie apparently flew like four times the speed of sound. It's not impossible

While I can see the emotional sense in including Bucky on the nostalgia tour, from a practical standpoint he's been living in Wakanda for years, apparently become friends with its rulers and respected by its people, and 1940s New York sure as hell isn't going to have comparable methods of deprogramming someone's brainwashing and providing therapy for their PTSD.

The therapy option was the lobotomy, and drugs, both of which Steve would heal from. 1940's New York couldn't deal with Bucky *or* Steve in terms of their mental health

  16. It's not about how the Royal Family is portrayed. It's about Thatcher, primarily. Peter Morgan wrote "The Queen" after all.

However, Peter is clearly hesitant to take on those people who see Diana as a saint, but I really don't think the Royals care that much.

(And it most definitely is not about Harry and Meghan)

@methodwriter85  Answering your question from the WAR thread.

Pretty sure I'm not the only one who had to google the Hillsborough Disaster.  😉

Why would she be blamed for that?  What am I missing?

There's a feeling that Thatcher wanted the criticism of the police contained in Lord Taylor's report ( in the aftermath of the disaster) deflected, to place more blame on the Liverpool fans (who were not drunk) because she had very cosy relationship with the South Yorkshire police after the 1984 miner's strike.

    https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/politics/hillsborough-disaster-margaret-thatcher-wanted-1324983

To quote the Former Home Secretary Jack Straw:

“The Thatcher government, because they needed the police to be a partisan force, particularly for the miners’ strike and other industrial troubles, created a culture of impunity in the police service.

“They really were immune from outside influences and they thought they could rule the roost and that is what we absolutely saw in South Yorkshire.”

Ok, I loved the joke Charles & Camilla told.....*LOL* But I have to mute my TV every time the screaming baby is on.  I just cannot take it.  But the closed captions are really good & accurate for this series!

The Australian Bob Hawk is really hamming up the accent to an annoying level.  He's a real Aussie, he can just speak normally and we'd get it.

And Diana's hair isn't blonde enough, long enough or layered enough.  Production didn't get it right enough.

I think that's his natural accent to be honest- if you watch Rake his accent seems pretty similar

A retired Steve, still in the present day, wouldn't work. What happens when the Avengers next face a crisis that threatens the world?

Even if the super-soldier serum was somehow reversed and Steve reverted to his old physique, the audience would still expect him to show up in an emergency to provide tactical command.

The world has just doubled in terms of it's population, of living things. That's enough to keep Steve busy, for like the next series of TFATWS. And at least two films, since most of the time, the films crisis is over in  matter of a few days. Honestly.  It's really not that hard

I remember seeing several interviews with Evans saying that he thought the Steve/Sharon relationship was weird and creepy and was generally disparaging about it. I also remember Hayley saying that she would like to see Peggy & Sharon's relationship explored and that Peggy would feel protective over Sharon, yet that always seem get ignored in these kind of conversations. From what I can tell she just dislikes the Steve/Sharon relationship and I don't see why she should have to hide her opinions because grown adults on the internet are unable to act like decent human beings.

    2

I'm going to address the bolded part and then hopefully stop talking about this:

She was absolutely fine with the Steve/Sharon relationship and called it essential to Steve's story,  ( and true love) when the part hadn't been cast yet, even going to far as to say she could play the role with a blonde wig.

All of that changed rather quickly when Emily was cast apparently, and while she was initially, supportive of Emily, in recent years her comments on it have been increasingly negative.

Chris Evans has made a couple of distasteful comments on the Staron relationship, and yes about Natasha, but I agree with with the poster upthread in that Hayley's comments cross across as worse

Funny how Chris Evans can be continuously negative about Sharon and the Sharon/Steve relationship (and make gross comments about other female characters) yet never gets accused of egging on fans like Hayley Atwell does.

IIRC All he's ever said about Sharon was one comment about it being, "a little icky" in a press conference for Civil War ( and that phrasing was initially put by the reporter who asked the question)  where even Emily didn't seem too thrilled about the uh dynamics and saying he preferred the Steve Peggy relationship because it was sweeter. and said Steve would date Sharon because she reminded him of Peggy.

Now all of that isn't great I'll grant you, but Hayley, on the other hand, has played with the shippers on twitter, (even supporting Stucky over Steve/Sharon in various interviews that Steve and Sharon is "borderline incestuous" , that she would "ground Sharon," but give Steve a slap on the wrist because "boys will be boys", after Emily Van camp was cast.

She's claimed that Peggy took Steve's virginity, that Steve is "Peggy's" and that Peggy would be "rolling in her grave at the thought of Steve/Sharon.

She's also taken photo with fans at con's showing disgust towards Steve/Sharon,

Before Sharon was cast she claimed that Sharon essential to Steve's story and claimed that she could embody the character, wearing a blonde wig, and it would be "True Love" with Steve.

I don't want to type out too long a reply, but outside of Chris's comments, which again weren't great, it only takes a quick look to see that Hayley's comments have been consistent and constant over the years. I don't think it's that hard to see why Hayley gets accused of egging on the fandom and Chris doesn't

I can get on board with this. I used to be big on Mel Gibson before he revealed himself to be a vile bigot and a hobgoblin, and as such, I would always stop Braveheart right before they captured him and pretend the end never happened.

They already said that they wrote scenes with Steve and Sharon living together for Infinity War. They probably cut that out to trim the fat, so to speak, but it's pretty obvious that Peggy was never on their minds as an option until the last minute. I'd go so far as to venture that every scene dealing with Steve & Peg is a re-shoot. I'd bet money on that.

They were. I believe Hayley said that those scenes were added in re-shoots
