I'm glad Tim saved Margarita.   The hatred she inspires is...a lot.

Nina and Zac Woulda Coulda-ing Kentaro, and then accusing him of copying, was crass and distasteful.

Speaking of distasteful: the Avon lipsticks look as cosmetically appealing as painting your mouth with matte house paint.  To quote "Reinhold Niebuhr," lordy.

Riffing on "Lordy":  Will no one save us from these meddlesome judges?

Okay, I am a breast cancer survivor (eleven years!), and from my personal POV:

Ayana's was cool and beautifully made, but had nothing to do with the theme.

Kentaro's looked like a fucking shroud.

Margarita had a good idea with the feeling of "chaos" (which truly nails the bc experience), but the result was SO cliched-mixed-with-prom-mixed-with-superheroine that even the beautful movement it had couldn't save it.

Brandon:  I actually liked his look better than anything else he has sent down the runway, but it was still the same old same old and that bonnet was DISGUSTING.  That particular kind of headgear makes women look utterly subserivent, not warrior-llike at all.  And even though using pink was probably the correct thing to do, there was something vaguely off-putting to me about it.

Kenya: nailed it.  Not a fan of that blue, but the combination of the big shoulders and those petals over the shoulders and breast area was SO on target, showing off that part of the body in a ballsy, proud way.  I think she should have won.

What????!!!!!  What did he do?  Constantly rub it all over himself - germaphobe?  I don't bother with many of these episodes (all pretty much alike) but that does sound different.

Why are so many people addicted these days?  Is life really that bad?

He drank it.   Sometimes straight from the bottle, sometimes mixed with sodas or something.  It's a tough episode to watch without feeling nauseous.

So, Bunchy wants to buy the bar. Why? The only customers are Donovans and I doubt they pay for the booze they drink.

Raise you hand if you were shocked that Bunchy's wife slept w/ someone on the road.

I hate to say it, but I cannot wait for the season to be over. One more episode.

Bunchy - who knows?  He can just go buy his own bar with his recovered money anyway insead of taking over that Hollywood Blvd slag heap.

Not shocked but wondering why the already somewhat shady Theresa would feel the need to confess.

Agree, cannot wait for the last episode.  This is the last season for me.

I'm kind of hoping that Mickey makes good on his threat and comes after Ray. . . successfully.

Bunchy and Darryl are now neck in neck for the title of The Stupidest Donovan.  But on the bright side, at least we haven't had to see Cahnah, who has apparently joined the military.   Ray seems to have forgotten him anyway.

You are a statistic after my own heart.  I never watched Man Men, didn't get the thrill of even the idea of the show.  I watched a few episodes of The Handmaid's Tale, but quit because it is a show with an objectionable (to me) agenda.  I tend to stay away from shows like that; the purport to be entertainment, but they are really political propaganda.

As the book was also.  I read it when it first came out.  I thought it was a nice bit of scifi.  That's all, nothing more consequential than one of the million other scifi books in the universe.  I didn't realize it was the Handbook for the Feminist Movement.

But, it's taken so seriously that must be what it is. I'll give you a personal example.  I play the Sims2.  It's a video game in which the player creates neighborhoods and characters and does whatever he wants with them.  I decided to make  handmaid neighborhood, just for fun, and create people (not characters from the book), and just have the framework of the story be their neighborhood rules.

Someone on one the game's sites wrote me this horrible message about what a terrible person I must be to envision such a thing.  She wished me horrible things for my future.  I wrote her back, saying I was sorry my game proposal had hurt her.  She came back telling me how the book had scarred her and how frightened she was of that actually happening to her.

I was like, really?  It makes as much sense to me as being worried Darth Vader is going to appear, cut my hand off, and tell me I'm his father.

It's a pity that someone used your game proposal to make assumptions about what kind of person you are - her reaction seems really over the top to me.  But having said that, as a lifelong feminist, I can tell you that none of the feminist women or men I know consider The Handmaid's Tale to be a handbook for the feminist movement.  A cautionary tale at best, taking the idea of oppression to an extreme to make a point, but a handbook for a movement?  No.

  5. The judges must have seen a different Margarita dress than the one I saw, which was ridculous, hideous and unoriginal (Wonder Woman, anyone?).   And Margarita is getting on my last nerve with her operatic trilling during her th's.  Michael deservedly went home for that mess, which was as unoriginal as Margarita's.  Kentaro shouldn't have been dinged for using fire hoses if they are included in the materials the designers get to work with, but the look was just ugly enough to be sent home regardless of materials.  Ayana's definitely fit the challenge best and she deserved the win.  Not crazy about Kenya's sillouhette, but the use of the materials with painting made that a real standout of a black dress.  Brandon is Brandon and it's too bad he refuses to push himself, - I was underwhelmed by last night's look and puzzled by the judges drooling over it.  That said, I fully expect him to win the season because I'm sure his collection will look cohesive on the runway and he seems to be getting a complete pass for making the same look over and over.   All in all, meh.

When I'm in boring meetings I amuse myself with the thought that anyone would ever pay me to "perform, sing, dance, etc  for shows where you just survive, naked and afraid..

Don't laugh, people are already speculating that they are just wannabe reality fame whores and they're just looking for a gig like The Amazing Race.  Kill me now.

No need to speculate  I posted this in the media thread from an article on the cheatwins:

Both say they don't plan to step away from the limelight anytime soon. They won't rule out another go at reality television.

Not successful as designers or anything else that actually requires skill and drive.   So, successful as what?   Identical twins who never met a camera they didn't like?  BFD, you irritating hacks.

I was also so upset by the dog that I literally had my hand up to block myself seeing that part of the screen once they showed it.  I love that we are all so upset by it - we were able to hand on for people being dismembered and dropped into the ocean, but don't kill a dog dammit!!

I couldn't watch it either, and I HATE when shows use the deaths of animals to try to shock or manipulate their audience - it's just disgusting and wrong.  My "story" take on it was that Psycho Guy had a dog-fighting biz going (wasn't there a ring in the barn?) - it's something that really does happen in the SF valley and parts north like Palmdale.  The hanging dog reminded me of Michael Vick's dog  fighting "sport" because i remember they found dogs hanged on that property when they busted the fucking asshole.

Unbelievable to me that people are taking this Harvey Wienstien Pervert Pig situation and turning his actions into a petty platform to bash The beautiful Gorgina Chapmans clothing line. Seriously?

I don't see anyone bashing her clothing line.  Someone said they looked like prom dresses, but so what?  That's personal taste, not bashing (I happen to love her cothes, and that's personal taste, too).  The bashing is reserved for Weinstein - he's an abusive pig who spent decades using his position of power to "coerce" women into all sorts of things they didn't want to do, and that includes pushing his wife's clothing line.

These Cheatin' Twins have probably covered for each other and lied to their parents from the time they could smile.  They continued their shenanigans throughout their 30+years and it will continue.  They're just sneaky and dishonest.  I hope their hometown loves 'em because we don't.

I suspect their hometown does not love the twins, but I'd love to hear someone who's from there tell us how they are regarded.

I notice that under the first jacket description it says, "Due to increased demand..." I wonder if that is true.

Oh sure.  Because who WOULDN'T want to spend $3250.00 on an eye-poppingly ugly jacket that looks like a coked-out costume designer's idea of a cross between Miami Vice and Sons of Anarchy?

Actually, your take on it is also much closer to the original, where the idea behind making Krystle Blake's secretary was that she was supposed to be the grounded everywoman innocent who came wide-eyed into the debauched, high-stakes world of the Carringtons. That got quickly sidelined as the audience got more fascinated by the campy antics of the Carringtons and the catfights, but her "ordinariness" was what they were supposed to identify with.

This!  I know it would be difficult to write a character as "pure" and morally upstanding as Crystal 1 at this time in our history.  But pitting two women (Cristal2 and Fallon) who are basically equally sharky, ruthless and bitchy against each other is just plain dull dramatically.  And if we do get an Alexis, there are going to be THREE identi-characters.  As silly as Crystal 1's wide-eyed naivete could be, at least you could root for her - I don't see ANYBODY here to root for.

When I heard Weinstein was responsible for the rapid growth of Marchessa I immediately thought the marriage was more of a business deal but they have 2 children together.  Makes me think there must have been love there at one time.   If it is just kids you want he is not the vision of the perfect baby daddy!   They were together for 4 years before they married.

Whether or not there was love in that relationship, children are an entirely different matter: they are paychecks.  Younger women who marry rich older men usually have kids as quickly as possible to ensure that in case of divorce, there will be an ongoing, very lucrative money stream - at least until the kid turns eighteen.  So in that sense, Weinstein is a great baby daddy: he'll be paying Georgina and children a lot of money for a very long time.   Kind of OT, but in the same vein, I'm expecting to hear that Louise Mnuchin is pregnant any day now.

Ugh, that's not good ShadowHunter. Could be the first cancellation of the season!

Overall I liked it but mostly because of the sentimental value - it brought back memories of the original show and followed the premise and original characters more closely than I expected with some nice twists and updates.

That said, the actresses who played Fallon and Cristal were horrible. I mean, they really went out of their way to cast the worst actresses they could find for the two biggest roles! I appreciate they were going for some diversity here but yeesh, I was really cringing at Nathalie Kelley's line readings. She was terrible. And Elizabeth Gillies just seems way too young. She's no Pamela Sue Martin, that's for sure. I don't buy her as some big corporate exec for a second.

Agree, both actresses are truly awful - felt like I was repeatedly getting hit on the head with a hammer by the "oh so ironic, oh so snarky" one-upsmanship line readings.  Also, although I appreciate the updated attitude of feminism, it doesn't leave much room for any contrast between Cristal and Fallon, who are basically mirror images of each other. in attitude and ambition.

You are probably right.  Maybe she was hoping for Claire to get called out finally on the runway.  Not realizing it's not about fair, but drama.  Heidi's wide-eyed, badly delivered "What is going on" that made it clear she knew full well tells me that.

Heidi is impressive in a lot of areas, but acting is not one of them.  That was soooooo fake!

Amy's garment was a flash back to the 50s.  I found a bunch on google but the images were from pinterest and could not be copied.  Here is one.  I know now where I have seen that.  On I love Lucy and other TV shows of that era.  Amy did a take off on that but I get where she was going.  They are mostly with long pants and only a partial skirt that was not so full.

I  LOVE this look and always watch for it when I'm watching 50's movies.  I've been waiting for years for someone on PR to use it in a design!

The skill level is very low this year.  I blame the casting direction. They went for what they thought was entertainment.  Cha Cha and the twins being the most glaring examples.

I sure hope Top Chef maintains its quality.  It is the last of the big ones still standing. The others are on their knees.

If Cha Cha and the twins are examples of what anyone in production thinks is entertaining then they need glasses and hearing aids.  Or maybe just to learn that entertaining is not the same thing as irritating, distracting and degrading to the standards the show used to have.

  20. If Claire-bear leaves of her own volition I think we can expect a Razzie-level performance, at least as histrionic as Baldy's was, with Claire "not wanting to make everyone else uncomfortable."  The problem with that is that she - like Baldy - will act like she is taking the moral high ground and never have to acknowledge (even to herself) that she's just a shitty, copycat designer.
