I don't know quite what to make of this comment. Mike Ehrmantraut, to me, is a very complex character, and a grief  guilt, and anger filled cauldron of qualities. Yes, he has chosen to participate in a business that ruins lives. That's sleazy. He's also a person who frequently does not try to maximize personal gain. He's nearly unfailingly honest about himself, without a molecule of hypocrisy. He can be difficult to like, but he also can inspire great respect and loyalty from others. I think the portrayal by Banks is magnificent.

Mike did not go in on the Hummel thing because he does not victimize "innocent" people.  Remember, he asked Jimmy what the copier people had done to him (to deserve having their stuff stolen)?

I don't think Mike has a problem being shady or illegal, but he does what he does for what he considers honorable reasons.

Logic would have said to find something to tie her up with before Karen and Pack left.  But this show isn't logical.  That's the beauty of this kind of humor.

Yes, this.  They could have taken a shirt off and tied her to the bars with it.  So dumb.  But then again, this show is so smart and funny, so I'll allow it.

There's only 52 weeks in a year!  Don't you mean a season's worth of 22 episodes that ran from September to May with the occasional rerun/sports event/award show/live news happening preemption?  St. Elsewhere, my own personal golden age of television show, ran 22 episodes a season.

Yes, something like that.  Used to be 26 episodes in a season.  Of course, they often cheated and did "clip show" episodes.

I must have a truly sick sense of humor because I found both things absolutely hilarious - YMMV as always.

Chidi's one of those people who, in life, seemed to personify the saying those who can't do teach. He could go on and on about moral philosophy and making proper choices but he failed to actually make those choices in real life - that is why he is in the bad place, his failure to make the proper choices and recognize that he made the wrong choices. This is a man who missed his mother's back surgery so he could help his landlord's nephew program his phone. A man who pretended to like his friend's boots for years and let it torture him to the point that he chose the absolute wrong time to tell his friend, right after the man's surgery, that he hated the boots. A man who still thinks every time he gets rebooted the reason he is in the Bad Place is his love for almond milk.

That being said, I think Michael helped Chidi out quite a bit in this episode even if it was unintentional. Because of Michael's machinations, Chidi was forced to not only make choices but deal with the consequences of those choices. Michael's trolley torture had the effect of making Chidi more assertive and less willing to compromise or put up with Michael's crap. Chidi acted on instinct by throwing Michael out of class and never second-guessed his decision. It was only after Michael apologized, giving Chidi what he demanded, that Chidi changed his mind.

Trying to bribe a moral philosophy professor? Really Michael?

Your post makes me wonder if the entire thing was designed to lead to growth in Chidi.  Disguised as torture.  So, like this isn't the Good Place or the Bad Place, but Purgatory.  If not intentional, it is an interesting effect anyway.  Forcing Chidi to choose is probably exactly what he needed.

Also, "I do sit in gum a lot" was funny.

  6. They didn't explain anything about the ending.  Why did the Andersons give Spencer a pile of money to expand ASM?

I can't believe they're going to make another season.  This one was awful.

They've basically come full circle.  Spencer was a nice guy who fixed problems for his NFL clients.  Now he's a douchebag.

Reggie was a total douchebag and now he's looking to be a nice guy who fixes problems for NFL guys.

I believe the italian businessmen were going to put in their own machines and the ones that Frank broke into were left behind by the irish gentlemen.

Thanks, that makes a little more sense.  One line of dialog would have cleared that up.

  8. I thought Vincent was told, as part of his "deal" to own the bar, that the machine income belonged to the gangsters who set him up.  It makes no sense that he would blithely stand there while Frankie breaks into the machines, and later vandalizes them more thoroughly.  Maybe the particular Irish gangster didn't have a valid claim on the machines, but he knew that his Italian gangster did.

I wish the bits with the gangsters and the lawyers made more sense.  I don't know who was meeting with whom and what it means, other than that they have plans for "redeveloping" the neighborhood and want to make sure they have suckers (like Vincent) to own things on paper.

Integrity of the game.... Players would be tempted to bet against themselves / shave points in the only legalized sports betting jurisdiction. Then the damn internet rendered that argument moot...

Also, imagine the nightmare of trying to keep a bunch of ridiculously wealthy young men out of trouble when they play in "sin city."

Has this show been renewed?  I can't imagine this going on as bad as it is getting.  Spencer gets a call from Wayne and tells him "no thanks, I don't want in on the merged offering."

Stupid.  Just stupid.  As it was, he was really bringing nothing to the table in his quest for a "deal" to bring a team he doesn't own to a city where he owns nothing.  Why was this joker expecting to get paid?

    Make it stop.
