They should have made them put the fabric around a Dixie cup and have the clients amble down the runway pretending to drink it, so we could all see what it would look like.  But maybe they remembered the Barbie challenge from S2.  Hee.

I agree, linking the Dixie challenge with a real woman challenge was a conflict of interests.

Fantastic and it would have clarified the challenge.  The to-go coffee cup as a fashion accessory.

  2. Margarita was no shrinking violet telling everyone (except Claire, Tim, the producers, i.e. anyone who could have done something) her complaints.  Luckily, she had Michael around to do her dirty work.  Watch her go all wide eyed next week and "I didn't mean for this to happen."  It's textbook passive-aggressive.

No.  That was the cup design they were showing repeatedly during the episode.  That's not the PR winning cup.  That's a cup they already had.

As such, Claire's design might have been inspired by this but it was certainly different enough to clear any copying complaints.  Also, Dixie probably wants more neutral designs as they expand the to-go market.  I think a lot of guys don't want butterflies or fireflies on their coffee cup.

  4. If that's the current to-go cup that was referenced on the show, then Claire's design is not a copy of it.  What she did is more like abstract black ink artwork but also she still kept it in a linear fashion.  Indeed, I would say Kenya's fireflies were as much a rip-off of the design.  But there you have the concept of inspiration.  It means different things to different people.

  5. I would think that since Dixie was going to have the design placed on a cup, they would have had a representative on the judging panel.  Similar to last week where no JC Penney representative was allowed to judge which design they would produce and sell.  I don't think the concept of design on a cup ever came up during the judging and since that was an integral part of the challenge, it might have informed.  I think Kentaro's design was non-descript while Claire's definitely had the broad stroke visuals that quite popular.  Now if Claire plagiarized the design, that would be a different story.  Also, does anyone think Ayana could have possibly won with the logo in Arabic?  In these times?  Seriously?  And although we're laughing, getting a design on a Dixie cup really isn't too bad a gig.

And since we know Margarita cannot be eliminated because she has immunity, it was another "hope you forgot history" moment for PR's production team.  Unless Claire is disqualified, that means Michael or Batani will go home and while Batani was boring, boring, boring, what Michael made was a travesty.

PR History:  Remember in the first season when Kevin went around talking about untalented Starr in the workroom while she was there.  She told him to say it to her face because it was rude to talk about someone like that.  M&M made it worse with the Spanish when Claire was right in front of them.

Also, remember weirdo Vincent from Season 3 who took his pants off in the design room and used it for a pattern when they were doing menswear.  Though we were terrified we would see Little Vincent peeking out through his boxer shorts, it seemed like a great idea.  If Claire did something similar at home, that was a violation.

  6. Okay, PR did do an effective job because of all the discussion.  I went back and watched my DVR, something I never do anymore.  It was Ayana who said to Margarita that this was too much drama and Amy agreed in the talking head.  The only one who went for it was Michael and he got way too involved and it showed in his design.

The timeline is important.  Claire had not started her pants on the first day because they didn't get the fabric.  When she did get the fabric on the second day, there was the consult with Tim about how the pants should be designed.  This was also the day Margarita was talking about seeing the pants in the bathroom.  The only chance she had to take the pants was the end of the second day. However, in the shot from first thing in the morning on the day of the runway, the pants are on the form.

Well I don't know about New York, but in some places it's illegal to install cameras in the bathroom so she could have done it there and not get caught.

There are multiple cameras in the workroom and they always photograph when the designers leave so if Claire took the pants with her, the chances are good she was caught on camera.

  8. Michael said he wasn't throwing shade when he said Claire's outfit could be bought at J. Crew.  There is no one who would have purchased his creation, so J. Crew is several steps better.  At least he said it to her face.

I thought Claire's pants were in her room, the ones she was making. I hate tattletales but also cheaters, hope she is booted if so. Sick of both the twins, their antics and unprofessionalism. But also M&M are intolerable.

That's what I got too.  I think Margarita said (in English) "she hid it well".   It might also explain why she won the challenge because the producers almost certainly knew about this if she was taking the pants with her and they can dramatically give the prize to Kentaro, which Nina very strongly argued for during the judging.  Or more specifically, she argued against Claire because it wasn't fashion forward.  I was surprised by the win after that but then again, this is PR.

  10. It looks like Michael leaves the runway because his monstrosity is deservedly on the bottom.

We knew the producers knew they had something good because in the past, someone with immunity is called safe if they're in the bottom but not tonight.

  11. PR botched the face-off because it should have been 30 minutes and it should have been in front of the judges.  That would have been classic.  However, why wasn't that woman from JC Penney one of the judges.  That's how PR usually rolls.  Winner gets their design produced by such and such and the creative manager is here to judge the winner.  Maybe her absence allowed Tim to say not good things about the given material.

I don't hate the Twins primarily because it's so obvious they're playing characters.  However, Shawn started to gain my respect when she said Tim told her to put Liris in a tunic and she said she didn't want to cover her body.  So what does she do?  Put her in a grotesque, shapeless sweatshirt.

I took a second look at Bromance's design and I think Kentaro spoke the truth when he said that his jacket would be the big seller because it was for everyone.   I think the irony is that if they simply stuck with just their hoodies (masculine/Brandon, feminine/Kentaro), they might have won.  I think Kentaro's jacket looked great in the plaid.

  12. Shawn was accused of copying a design in this challenge, but 2 is better than 1.  Amy has her Instagram showing the, shall we say, similarities between what Claire "designed" and a Puma design, which Claire is modeling.

  13. An irony is that Margarita's model made her clothes look really good in the photo shoot.  There was only so much she could do on the runway.  Margarita has been very ungracious throughout the talking heads and I don't quite know if it's her ego or lack of sophistication about reality Tv.  She might be talking herself down as well, but the worst, most personal comments aired are always about the other contestants.

    Spoiler

In the preview, it looks like she's getting the loser edit and really amps up the obnoxious factor in the THs.  On the other hand, Shawn is very gracious about the other designers and is also complimentary of her model.

  14. I agree that Samantha should have stayed over Margarita since she at least designed something, but when you heard Zac and Nina both say that she's one note, you knew it was over.

Kentaro won when his model turned the corner.

  15. Wendy Pepper and Emilio's look suffered from what Nina called "no clothes so nothing to judge."  I wouldn't call them the worst.  If you're going to go back to S1, one of the worst contestants was Starr.  Her first dress, in the unconventional challenge, was called "a travesty" by Tim.  Her second, which inexplicably kept her safe, was a cancer dress with representative veins and a giant tumor at the shoulder.  It was the fashion equivalent of Hildi from "Trading Spaces."

  16. I haven't been watching, but I find it rather appalling that Colin's problems are being announced by the powers that be.  At any rate, something that happened stuck with me and I'm not even sure why.  On one of the birthday episodes, Kate took the kids out to buy clothes for their birthday party.  Everyone got the predictable shorts, t-shirts, etc but Colin wanted a button down shirt and long pants.  Very formal and adult professional.  I remember he brought the items to Kate and she immediately veteoed it.  She then said that Colin always wanted to dress like an adult and it was....weird.  That was her reaction and I wondered about it.  Is there really anything wrong with him wanting to dress up for his birthday party or even that he wanted to look different from his brothers?  Was it individuality or was Kate trying to dissuade his rebelliousness on every level?  The nail that sticks up gets hammered down?  Colin always gets that reaction from his mom, although all her kids probably do as well.  He was always trying to show her his work, trying to show his clothes, looking for approval and Kate always puts them down.  I do remember when he brought her a drawing that represented him and her and she immediately asked where the brothers and sisters were in the image.

I hope things work out for him.  I think some felt that it was Aaden who would have problems adapting but clearly no.

  17. I think they both styled the models themselves and that didn't help.  The flats that Tieler chose accentuated the nurse like feel of his first look.

Watching the fashions again, Hawwaa's ringmaster look was actually cute without that jacket.  The color blocked top was appealing and I would have loved to see how it looked with the layered ruffle skirt but we didn't get the long shot.  Again, editing would have been much better for her.

  18. I think there has been some very insightful comments about Tieler's epic collapse.  His early work definitely suggested he was not just a top contender but was the prohibitive favorite to win the entire thing.  He started fading, but I chalked that up to his lack of endurance in the pressure atmosphere of the competition.  Some have it, some don't.  But what he sent down the runway in the all important final judging is a different story.  Without the constriction or perhaps guidance of a challenge, he simply went off the rails.  He definitely needed more direction but as you can see, when Tim tried to give it to him, he ignored it and even when the judges were clear about why they didn't like his mini-collection, he again ignored it, as Molly did when she got sent home.  When these kids say "this is my aesthetic, I'm sticking to it and I don't care what anyone says", you know they're not long for this contest and deservedly so.  Neither Molly or Tieler believed Tim, so his parting words showed he was not surprised by the outcomes.

Tieler also didn't seem to remember that the winning work will be featured in Seventeen and there's no way a girl in that age range would wear what he designed.  Hawwaa at least made something that had a youthful quality.  I hated the jacket but the jumpsuit was kind of cute.  You know the bar is low when kind of cute is the winner over dowdy.  I also think there is no way anyone involved with the show wanted to send Tieler home but they had no choice.
