Or it could have been a display that she was more interested in a ruling than her daughter who was faking a breakdown.
Over and over again, the defendant kept pleading for JJ to show him where to sign so he could get out of there. Watch how long and silent she was. It prolonged the moment and definitely heightened the drama.

At the end of the show, the mother said something like "Thank you, Judge Judy", not sarcastically but I found it weird to be cradling your daughter and that comes out of your mouth.

JJ often says "you want emotion, go to Dr. Phil" and this case exposes why she's not good in that arena. When she even attempted some degree of reconciliation, it came off as brittle. During the tag, when the daughter was crying, I hate to say that I looked for tears. Nothing. A lot of drama going on in that family.
Coupled with her terrible judgement on the dog ownership case a couple of days ago, I'm going to take a break from her show.

After doing a bit of reading on Epidermodysplasia Verruciformis, it's clear that this is a skin disease, not a foot condition. As such, Dr. Lee would have been a more appropriate choice than Dr. Vincent and she could have also addressed the growths on his face and hands. Now I don't now exactly how Sebastian's situation was presented to TLC, but this seems very strange if not unethical.

GA was a one hour commercial for Zak's Haunted Museum (a fantastic museum, BTW). That free advertising has been gutted by being a Discovery+ exclusive. These shows and personalities are very replaceable. Out of sight, out of mind. And I felt a very good point was made by one of the critics of the service. Many of these shows are like background music. It might be on, but you're not paying close attention to it.

Since the growths had started taking hold of his face and hands, wouldn't he be better served with Dr. Pimple Popper. It appeared as if it was a skin disorder, not a foot disorder.
I agree that there needs to be an update. I was a bit skeptical about only a couple of photos with no explanation at all. At the very least, a video call.

It might just be the current climate that has worn me down. Someone is respectful to the Judge and all you get back is snark.
There was also the issue that part of the case had already been adjudicated in small claims court in the defendant's favor.
I stopped watching JJ a while back and won't start up again.

I thought JJ was unbelievably rude and abrupt to the defendant, who was very respectful to her. These are moments where her reputation for being unprofessional are well deserved.

His dry, quiet, smart humor is right up my alley and I love that his personality is different from the types we so often see. Kids Baking Championship is a treat for me to watch every season because of Duff and Valerie and seeing these kids bake 1000x better than I can now (and certainly not then).

I commented after the first episode that this was a very unimpressive season because of the kids. My opinion hasn't changed. This is the weakest season so far. Duff and Val are good, the challenges are good but the kids aren't interesting. I've warmed to Liam and Naima but after all these episode, there are some kids I still can't even identify. Reggie was clearly not made for this type of competition because he's a void every time he appears on camera.
The show itself is still a great concept for the network but if they can't find kid contestants that are enjoyable to watch, it might be time to give it a rest for a season or two. I do know that some former contestants were actually kid actors but at least it was entertaining.

Plus, Jim Bob Duggar is smart. He knows how to manipulate a situation. Kate never seemed all that intelligent. Jim Bob has side businesses and was even in government for a time. Kate has done nothing but birth out 6 kids at once.
I might be persuaded to watch an hour of Jon Gosselin being a "DJ", just for the opportunity to laugh my ass off.
As Reality TV goes, if you watched an hour, for whatever reason, they got you. Laugh your ass off. They took your money and time.

There are 12 contestants and while the seasons have had as few as 9, like the previous season, there have been several seasons with 12. Frankly, they could have whittled this group down with no loss in quality. In the recent Holiday championships, all four kids showed the personality and individuality that is necessary for a show like this. As it stands, if we don't care about the kids, their creations have less interest since we can't taste them.

A friend of mine works for Harpo and says that guests for the most part aren't paid, but that's especially true for an "information" show like Dr. Oz. Jon might have been given an appearance fee since he's a public personality but not an actual SAG performer, but those are quite small. Since the show is taped in New York, probably the best he did was a free trip to Manhattan with a hotel room.

Just saw the premier and I think this is not the most appealing group of kids. Unlike other season premiers, there was no one that stood out, personality wise. I'll watch it, of course, but you start wondering if they're beginning to run out of kids who want to be on this show.

The haircut segment was notable for the judgement and the after judgement interview. Birdbrain judge plaintiff got awarded $10 after he paid the barber for a cut he said was too short. He paid after he saw the haircut so he should have gotten nothing. JJ gave him a minor lecture about the frivolous nature of his lawsuit but also noted that it was TV entertainment. But the real reason for all of this, including JJ's brevity, was when the plaintiff exposed himself as a Trump Lover and said the barber was a Trump hater and that's why she cut his hair so short.
A good example of a case that should not have been aired.

The timelines are interesting. The $1,500 fee was for Jon's attorney reimbursement because Kate defied the court order to keep the kids off TV. It has been paid off in May. I question if she and/or TLC paid the fine because both were equally culpable in allowing unpermitted kids on air. She allegedly also owes Jon $25,000 in legal fees for an earlier court case that has not been paid. Either way, $1,500 and $25,000 are small potatoes when it comes to how much money this franchise has earned. For TLC to get away with this with only a $1,500 fine directed towards Kate is completely outrageous.
The next few months and year will be interesting. I think TLC is finished with Kate. It's become a hazardous situation because they work with so many kids and this kind of intense scrutiny about their work situations is not something any entertainment wants. With the PA DOL ruling, we will almost certainly never see the underage kids on TV again until they turn 18. Kate could do a show with the twins or by herself but is there any interest?
I do agree with Jon that she's addicted to the spotlight but that's not just her, I think. Reality TV intensifies the need. Jon is the same. How she and Jon responds will be interesting. Since Jon has done everything to keep the kids off TV, that's good but it's certainly not the last we've seen of him on TV and that's not good. However, the way he's fought for his son has been heroic.

There is no money yet, according to the article. Kate has been ordered to pay but nothing yet. As for Cara and Mady, the money earned from the series and other events were supposedly put into a trust that would include college, so neither Jon or Kate are probably paying out of their own pocket.

The photo and brief IG video of Collin and Jon getting a Christmas tree.....I don't know, it choked me up. Collin seems so happy and just a regular kid. He definitely has a great relationship with Jon as well as Colleen and her family. We might have a happy ending for him. Jon said he's in the Junior ROTC which he loves and provides the structure he needs as a boy with ADHD.

I agree that the kid having red hair in the photo and light hair in the courtroom was one of the other interesting and unexplored elements in the case. It certainly merited the entire episode or maybe they just shouldn't have aired it.

The amount of vandalism those two hoodlums committed was staggering. They're under ten and they used crowbars on a car and attempted to steal it as well as a motorcycle. I don't know if the contents of the trunk were placed in there by them, but it was as alarming as anything I've heard on JJ. I would not at all be surprised that they're already torturing animals.
This episode was a monumental fail. In the famous 60 Minutes piece, JJ said she was trying to scare a young defendant. She didn't try to scare those two or their mothers at all. Looking at the kids' reactions, they were amused and bored by the proceedings. One of them was shown yawning incessantly and they were both talking throughout with no admonishment from JJ. No control whatsoever.
For whatever reason, in this episode, she turned into the exact kind of Judge she has been so outspoken against.

That is why TLC spent so much on lawyers trying to get Jon to keep filming. I would have never guessed 1 show would have made that much. No wonder TLC never cancels shows like the Duggars or Roloffs.
I was sad when he described how it was to see Colin again. After seeing the escape note, I would have pictured a happy reunion. Jon said Colin had gained 75 lbs because of some medication (It began with a Th but I will botch the spelling) and Colin was sedated and that he and Colin went through therapy to be reunited.
I was glad to hear that Jon has a full time IT job at a hospital now and his girlfriend is a mental health nurse practioner so they should be able to have a solid middle class life for the 2 kids he has custody of.
The reunion picture did indeed show Collin looking very heavy and someone in the comments section said he looked like it was the effect of medication.

The kids who vandalized the "basement" were serial killers in training. Overall, I was shocked at how easy JJ went on them and their disgusting mothers. It was a very unsatisfying episode considering JJ always talks on the show how she was in family courts for how many years and if any kids needed intervention, these two do.

The biggest question -- WHERE IS.THE.MONEY. KATE???? I mean buying groceries and paying taxes on a mansion aren't cheap. But surely something should be left.
It's not the money though, Kate desperately needs the attention. Her narcissistic personality cannot stand being out of the limelight. But she knows without the kids, no one gives a damn about her. So she claims its for the money to keep a roof over her poor innocent kids' heads.
The books when those kids turn 18 and are away from her are going to be EPIC.
The letter in the article states that Jon has had joint custody of all the kids since at least April 2018. He has full custody of Collin which may explain why he was not mentioned on the special and which Kate can now rationalize as her reason for cutting him out of her IG pages, and primary physical custody of Hannah. There is some great wisdom in the judge saying that the ones who did not want to film could still be negatively impacted by the show continuing without them. In the special, Collin essentially doesn't even exist anymore but Kate spoke about Hannah. If Jon is correct that she was not invited to the event, her mom is lying and Hannah knows she wasn't invited. That's just not good.
Paul Peterson and Alison Arngrim have been involved with the Gosselin kids with "A Minor Consideration".

The Daily Mail article. Let me say that this is some heavy stuff and very serious. Included is a letter from the Pennsylvania Department of Labor saying that since Jon and Kate have joint custody, they both have to approve their appearance on the show and Jon has repeatedly said he does not approve. Even more troubling is the suggestion that the kids have been working for 7 years on this show and yet Kate says she is still dependent upon the show. "What has happened to all the money?" I have to say that I'm also very uneasy with the kids allegedly saying they needed the show to survive. Those are not the words of kids.
The Judge says that although several of the kids enjoy the filming, two others do not (obviously Hannah and Collin) and both have suffered psychological issues related to the filming. He also (wisely, IMO) says that even if the show continued without these two, they may be negatively affected with the show going on.

No, I was referring to Judy. If she had simply instructed Byrd to show him where to sign, there wouldn't have been the outburst at the end. And she should have because the case was over, she gave her judgement. Instead, she tried to butt in and reconcile the situation which anyone could tell you was ridiculous. She kept saying stupid stuff like "Keep your heart open", which gave him an opening to say more. Even JJ has said on her show that people say things in the heat of the moment that they don't really mean but when the Judge goads you on for the sake of good television, it sours you, or at least it did me. And the reason she fails in this is the reason she's been a good TV judge. All abrasiveness, no nurturing.
As for the wife, it seemed a very well orchestrated passive aggressive display only to thank JJ in the end while her daughter is "crying".
